((OOC: The show was long. And I'm really sore. But it was okay. The party hasn't taken place yet - it was the arrangements that were taking forever. >.< But going to the grad? Yes. Yes I did.))
"Seems silly," Tianara mused aloud softly, rising in the water a little as though to get a closer look. "To have something as wondrous as this and not look at it every now and then. But I suppose some folk don't know it's there." She smiled a little at Joshua, knowing he would most likely not see it since he was still very carefully not looking at her. "I assume there is beauty on land, too, otherwise no one would be there, but there are comparison points in everything." She spoke innocently, not knowing the old adage about apples and oranges. "Don't you think so? I mean, humans breathe air and the merfolk live in water, but there are still things that are similar. We both eat. We both enjoy beauty when we see it." Her voice, until then full of pleasure, dimmed slightly, growing sad. "We both hate to be alone."

((Can I meet up with anyone at this time?))
Mac was a little disturbed by this attack. He took his staff and held it close. There was no trace of the monster left. Was it just a dream? Was he hallucinating? He finally made the decision, and he wasn't going crazy as he always had a steady mind. "Oh well, guess I should expect the unexpected" he said as he smiled and walked along the beach again, resuming his task and also just enjoying the scenery.
He began to sing to himself as he slowly walked along the shore. His melody did seem soft, but it carried a long distance.

((Well, mine and Shadow's character's are all underwater right now. They're slowly coming up to the surface, intending to go to a small hidden cove where Joshua's camp is.))
"I guess there are similarities. I suppose if you look hard enough then everything has similarities as well as differences." Joshua conceeded the point. He did have to correct Tianara on one thing though. "Not all humans hate to be alone. I've known quite a few that would be happy if everyone just let them be. I used to be one of them for the longest time." He chuckled slightly to himself. He'd been perfectly content to stay at his cove, with no one around. Until he'd found Katalina and began teasing apart the mystery of the seas.

Tianara obstinately shook her head. "They might think so," she said firmly, "but humans are like merfolk. We're meant to live in clans - families, I mean. If we're alone, we're not happy." She pushed some of her hair away from where it floated in front of her face. "Sorry, for example. She lives alone, but she visits her clan and others. She doesn't go far from the waters she knows. She sees Narcis and me and Caralei and you all the time. Because she doesn't really want to be alone."
She smiled a little, looking slightly shy. "Humans who say they want to be alone are sometimes covering for the fact that they have no choice but to be alone. Sometimes they're just rejecting the world before it has a chance to reject them." Then she shrugged. "Well, that's what I think, anyway. I'm probably wrong."

Out on a nearby rock just off shore, Mac saw something glisten near the top. It was about 20 to 30 feet away and the object did catch his eye. "I wonder what that is?" he questioned himself. He dug his staff into the staff on one end to prop it upright. He then took his shoes off and proceeded to run into the waves, hoping to investigate the shine. He swam out to the rock, and hoisted himself up onto it, and made sure he didn't fall off. He looked around, and he saw something trapped between 3 shellfish that anchored themselves onto the boulder. "Aww, I want to know what it is" Mac said disappointed. He knew that he didn't want to harm any sea-life, but he also knew it was pointless to try and dislodge shellfish from their grounding, as its almost impossible. He sat there, a little bummed about the selfish shellfish's treasure. "Oh well" he said, and he sat on the rock a little while, enjoying the scenery.

Joshua cast an odd look at Tianara. He hadn't been expecting something like that. He glanced back up at the surface, not saying anything. 'Is she right? Was I just rejecting the world?' The thought bugged him for some reason. 'I don't know. I kinda liked the silence brought by being alone. But then if I really did like being alone, why didn't I push Katalina away? Actually, it's been the opposite, trying to keep her close.' Was it really just for the sea's mysteries that he wanted to be around Katalina? Or was it the fact that there was someone to talk to - someone who wouldn't make fun of him for his love of the sea? He shook his head irritably. The questions were making Joshua's head hurt. He'd never looked at it from this angle.

Tianara seemed willing to allow Joshua his thoughts. She swam nearby in a companionable silence, drifting a little as Katalina led them slowly closer to the surface. At the moment, her own thoughts were on the family she was leaving behind - because she knew that she was probably not going to come back to live, and visiting wouldn't be the same. It would also slowly but surely be discouraged as she built a life for herself among the humans. She sighed a little. Why did it have to be so hard?
Katalina glanced back at the two humans. "We're going up now," she said. "I think it'll be all right, but Tianara, you just sing out if your eyes hurt once we get there, okay?"
The girl's absent-minded nod wasn't really reassuring, but it was likely the best they were going to get. So Katalina accepted it and turned towards the surface.

Joshua was startled out of his thoughts by Katalina's voice. He shook his head, irritated that he'd zoned out like that. Pushing his thoughts aside for later, he kicked his feet and caught up to Katalina as she rose. 'Well, this should make life interesting for the next while. Teaching Tianara about the surface......I think it'd be kind of fun.' He'd noticed, when talking with Nezik and teaching Katalina to write, that he enjoyed teaching. 'Maybe I should have been a teacher, not a run away.' Joshua chuckled to himself as he swam.

Tianara swam up alongside Nezik, and the two of them were soon chattering away in their own tongue. Her moodiness seemed to have evaporated as soon as she got to talking with one of the merfolk again. Katalina hoped for her sake that the girl would be able to find people she liked as much as she liked the clan she had lived with. They all wanted their little human to be happy. Why shouldn't they?
When they broke the surface at last, Tianara looked around slowly. Her eyes didn't hurt - the slow rising had helped a lot. It was a good thing, too, because she was too busy staring at everything to deal with sore eyes. "What is all this?" she demanded of no one in particular, fascinated.

Joshua surfaced, shaking the water from his hair. He chuckled, hearing Tianara's question. He waved one hand, taking in everything. "This....is the surface. Like I said, land has it's own appeals." He knew the surface had a beauty all it's own. There were somethings that just couldn't be compared to the world below the water.

((OOC: Go for it.))
Tianara's wide eyes examined the area around them minutely, taking in all the details she could stand. "It's...really bright," she offered at last, glancing at Katalina. "The rocks are really warm."
"That would be due to the sun, my dear," said Katalina lightly. "Which you are never to look straight at, by the way - it'll hurt your eyes."
Tianara nodded, and instead glanced up at the very blue sky. "It looks just like the water," she said, fascinated. "They're all the same colour?" Apparently, whoever had taught her human scientific theory had skipped some basics in their hurry to get to the details.

((Go ahead.))
Joshua grinned, amused by Tianara's fascination. "Yes, they're both blue. Though from above, the sea can be any color from gray to blue to green. The sky has the same range of colors, with the addition of black during the night and really bad storms." He began to swim, heading to his cove. "You'll like the cove. It's nice there. That's why I chose it."

Mac hummed a little song to himself. He jumped back into the sea and decided to explore the coastline. He glided effortlessly in the water as he observed the surrounding environment. The sea life was radiant, and seemed more natural to see than land life. He grabbed a couple seashells he found lying around. There was a playground of coral and anemones that Mac swam through as well. Finally he found what looked like an underwater tunnel that led upwards. Curiosity got the better of him, and he swam up the tunnel to investigate. When he re-surfaced, he seemed to be in a cove of some kind, and it had a secret feeling about it. "Amazing..." he said to himself. He swam around a little looking for more shells.

((Random info about Joshua's cove that might be helpful to you. This info has built up over the course of ~150 pages. It'll save you some reading to get a good idea of the cove and it's waters.
It's a fairly small, secluded cove. A stretch of forest separates it from the near by port town. The waters are almost always calm. The sand runs in a curve, like a crescent moon. A coral reef runs in a crescent, mirroring the cove. Put together, the cove and reef make a full circle. The reef has breaks where small boats can go through. To the one side of the cove is the open sea. The other side has a large cliff with turbulent waters at the bottom that are a danger to boats. Because of the turbulence, boats rarely come close, preferring to use open sea paths. The cliffs, waters, and forest stop most humans from coming through. They don't bother when there are more accessible coves on the other side of the town. That's why Joshua chose it. He's set up a base camp of sorts in the trees near the water and he always keeps it as clean as possible.))
