Tianara glanced shyly back. "But there are lights, right? At night, when you said it goes black?" she asked. "It never goes as dark as it does in the caverns? Sorry told me so." She smiled a little at the mermaid, who smiled back as she floated ahead, lazily making her way towards Joshua's cove - their home, and soon to be Tianara's. At least for a while.
Nezik and Katalina soon fell back into idle conversation as they made their way back towards the cove. It was Katalina who was the first to tense. She turned back towards Joshua - they were fairly close to the cove now - and said quietly, "Someone's there. In the cove. I don't know who." The humming of a human voice was now more evident, carrying quite well across the water to them.

Mac found his collection of shells and was happy now. He went back into the water, and decided to enjoy the view underwater. He gazed up at the sun as it seemed bearable under the waves.
Just then, something happened. Mackenzie didn't see his surroundings, and he didn't know where he was. Visions of a horrible war, and dying people played out like a dream. Then an evil sensation, the most evil you could ever feel, like a rush of intense fear and malevolence surged through. Mac couldn't stand this any longer. "...No..." he whispered. He then summoned courage to fight these visions, and willed himself to be in control again.
His body flashed, and then emanated a blue aura, all while he was underwater.

Joshua nodded to Tianara. "There's the stars, when the clouds aren't blocking them. And the moon, so it's never entirely black. Even during bad storms, there's often lightening." He paused, listening to Katalina. Frowning, he glanced at the cove. The faint humming had stopped now. "No one should be there. Why would they when there's better coves on the other side?" He shook his head. "Nevermind. It's not important right now. I'll go ahead and check it out. Stay safe and hidden, alright?"
That said, Joshua turned away from them and ducked underwater. He always swam better like that. Approaching the reef barrier, he swerved to where he knew there was a small break in it. Ducking through, he paused to scan the waters. He had to stop and blink to make sure he was actually seeing what he thought he was. There was a....glowing kid....in the water. Joshua swam closer, moving slowly. He wasn't sure what was going on. 'My life has become really weird lately....'

Mac regained control, and he opened his eyes. Everything seemed to be the same, and it was like he dosed off. He remembered he was underwater and began to swim up. As he swam upwards, something caught his eye, and it seemed like a person, so he ignored it and waited to respond when he surfaced.
After he surfaced and breathed, he looked out in the area he saw the person. "Hey, how is it? This place is nice huh?" he shouted aloud, hoping they could hear underwater. He felt being friendly was as he really didn't get to know many people around here.

Joshua watched as the aura faded. Kicking his feet, he surfaced some distance from the other. He shook his head and pushed his goggles up into his hair. He wore a suspicious look on his face. 'Geeze, Katalina's suspicion is rubbing off on me.' He knew though that he had a very good reason to be suspicious. That suspicion is what would save the merfolk. "What are you doing here?" Joshua asked the....boy....girl.....He wasn't entirely sure.

Mac heard the other guy answer him back with another question. Mac felt a little bad when he heard the question. He looked on at him and replied, "Well, I'm just swimming here, acting like a mermaid and enjoying the sea. Haha!" he said with a tone of mixed victory and kindness. "My name is Mackenzie, but call me Mac for short" he explained. He exchanged a greeting first, hoping to get positive feedback from his new-found acquaintance. He hadn't even lived here a month, and he wanted to get friendly with the neighbors.

Joshua looked startled for a second at the mention of a mermaid. Quickly though, he had his expression back under control. "But why are you here, exactly? There are plenty of other coves along that way that are easier to get to." He waved his hand towards his left, Mac's right, where there was a large cliff wall. On the otherside of the cliffs were the bigger and better coves. They were also considerably easier to reach. Joshua wondered how Mac had come to this cove and hoped his camp hadn't been found. His journal with all it's seafolk notes was up there.

Mac was curious. "I didn't know there were other coves. I'm just here because I stumbled upon it" he explained, "If this place is secret, I wont tell. I don't even know anyone in town". Something in his mind pulled at his thoughts. Somehow I feel as though he's important... He pulled out some seashells and held them up high, "I found some really nice shells around here" he smiled.

Katalina listened, keeping an arm out to stop Tianara when the curious girl would have followed Joshua straight into the cove. "He said to wait," she murmured. "We can't go in there with him if there's another human nearby. Come on - we can slip into my space in the coral. It'll be hard to see us there."
Tianara frowned. "But I'm human," she pointed out. "The new person won't see a tail, or anything. They won't notice anything strange about me, will they?"
Katalina lifted a brow. "Aside from your hair, which is way longer than any other human I've ever seen, your breath control that's so amazing you can stay underwater for almost sixteen years, and the fact that you're not only not wearing scuba gear, but you're totally naked? No, nothing at all."
Ignoring Nezik's chuckling, Tianara rolled her eyes. "Fine. You made your point. No need to rub it in. We'll go to the coral."

Joshua sighed, shaking his head. Somehow, Mac had managed to stumble onto the one cove he shouldn't have. "You have some serious luck." He muttered, mostly to himself. He shook his head and addressed Mac again. "No, the cove isn't a secret really. Most of the town knows I live here. It's just not always the easiest cove to get to. And people think I'm crazy." Joshua was making it out as if he himself was the reason why he didn't want people here. He glanced at the shells Mac was holding up. They actually were really nice shells. "Pretty. There's a lot of shells like that around here." He murmured.

As soon as they were within Katalina's little hideaway in the coral, Tianara glanced at Nezik. "Are you living here too, now?" she asked, curious.
Nezik glanced at Katalina - they hadn't actually discussed that yet. "Just visiting for now, I think," he replied. "Since I haven't actually asked my dear sister if I'm staying or not."
Katalina smiled at him a little. "Don't be idiotic, Nezik," she replied. "You haven't asked because you knew you didn't have to. You're welcome to stay as long as you want - although if strange humans keep showing up here like that one," she nodded in the general direction of the two humans who were just inside the cove, "and Joshua can't make them leave, we might have to move elsewhere."
Tianara and Nezik both looked a little sad, but they nodded their understanding. And for a while, there was silence.

Out in the distance in the open ocean, Mac felt the presence again. "Oh no..." he said.
Two monstrous creatures the size of dolphins lept out of the water, and swam this way. Mac was certain these weren't animals. "Hey, get away from those things!" Mac shouted, he swam down to look for something to use as a weapon, and found what seemed to be a slim metal pole from an old sunken boat. He quickly retrieved it, and swam up next to a rock that sat out of the water to get better ground.

Joshua twisted, looking to see what Mac was talking about. He narrowed his eyes, watching the creatures. Their name was tickling the back of his mind, but he couldn't remember. All he could remember was that they were stuff of legends and not normal sea creatures. Keeping on eye on the creatures, Joshua began moving closer towards on of the arms of the crescent shaped beach. As he did, he called out to Katalina with his mind, warning her. 'Katalina! There's something up here. I can't remember what they are, but they don't look friendly.'

((OOC: Super-short post. >.<))
Katalina mistakenly assumed he wanted to know what they were. What do they look like? she inquired. Maybe I know, but I've got to tell you it's unlikely. I don't know many of our less friendly cousins well, you understand. And Tianara and Nezik know even less than I do. Maybe you should get yourself and your human friend out of the water...just in case?
