Beylith dropped one wing and swooped out of the way of a windblown clump of Thread, then popped between. He reappeared behind it, burning it to ash with a sustained flame. Hah!

Set'al and Bronze Pipith 1/5
Pipith dove after a falling clump of Thread, intent on making up for his earlier error, but the wind gusted it back at him! He rolled out of the way, but it still caught the edge of his wing.

Set'al gave his bronze a reassuring pat as they popped out from between, but something made him look up just in time to spot a strand drifting their way. They blinked away quickly, avoiding further injury for the moment.

Set'al and Bronze Pipith 4/5
His earlier mistake had shaken him, but the little bronze had finally managed to shake off the lingering feelings and was getting down to business - and doing quite a good job of it. A dive for a falling strand abruptly turned into a roll, just as the wind changed and would have blown the Thread right into Pipith's face. Instead, he was able to twist deftly out of the way and flame it down.

8. Your dragon dives for a strand of thread that has fallen through the upper wings. Right before they belch forth their flame, they suddenly jerk hard to the right, almost in a roll, and quite unexpectedly. Sure enough, a gust of wind would have whipped the thread back in their face! Instead, the strand whips by, and your dragon is able to successfully flame it. [+1 Instinct]

Ever an overachiever, Pipith proceeded to flame a tad earlier than he really should have to catch a clump of Thread, but somehow - typical of the sharding overconfident dragon - managed to hit his target anyway.

Slipping into the lower altitude felt like a relief, but the knowledge that they weren’t even half through the fall, and already several of their fellow riders’ lives had been claimed... it was no time to lose focus. Nasath struck as soon as he saw the sliver of thread, too early... but somehow still caught the strand!

The lower tier was supposed to be calmer, but the rising front ahead of the storm turned the air to chop. A sudden blasting gust flung even the huge bronze off course, and he strained against it to fight back to his spot. A faint pulse of soreness shot along his wing—not good. He had hours of flight left to fo!

At just the wrong time, a stray strand slipped through. The bronze tried to swerve, but another twang of pain shot through his wing arm, and then a breath later the familiar biting sting of thread. There was nothing to do then but blink briefly between, and return shedding the frozen shards and drops of ichor.

The next thread they saw was heading for a wingmate, and the bronze lunged forward, searing flame, which consumed the tangle just before it hit Miehrath. Instead of scoring strands, only warm ash sprinkled over them, specking the blue's hide darker...but that was a far preferable fate to being eaten alive. Be careful, Miehrath! The bronze called out to him, a minor nudge of encouragement.

Another gust of wind raised up, but Nasath wasn’t going to let it push them around this time. He was ready for it. With a hard beat of his wings he churned through the gale, snorting proudly as he kept his place in formation.

They ducked down to the lower layer of the fight, just in time for a guat to toss them back towards the falling thread. Almost lazily the green rippled, wiggling deftly away from the threat, pausing to flame it before moving back to formation.
