'Good luck Katalina.' His voice was soft. He pulled his attention back to Tianara. "I know they like to fight. It's one of our worst qualities." He admitted quietly. "But they say one person can make difference. Two is even better." He shook his head despairingly. "The only thing that's coming to mind right now is making sure they never meet. The two can't fight if they've never met. Most people think it isn't real. Just legends and stories for children. That is our key to preventing the war."

Tianara sighed softly, her shoulders slumping. "Most people. Before Nezik. Now anyone who's heard about that...anyone who's willing to believe in that..." She paused, considering. Then a tentative smile came to her face. "But it's not likely, is it? Without the proof. They won't want to believe it."
The hint of hope in her eyes would easily be extinguished. All Joshua would have to do to plunge her back into despair was hesitate before answering. But for now, she was beginning to believe that maybe, just maybe they could save the folk she'd grown up with.

Joshua answered without hesitation. He knew humans, scientists in particular. "No. Without proof, even those who saw Nezik will begin to think it was just a hoax or something they imagined." Something as fantastic as the merfolk would need proof and lots of it before the majority of people would believe. Of course, there were ones like Joshua who only needed a glimpse as proof but they were a minority.

"We could do this," murmured Tianara, her eyes beginning to light up. "We could really do this. They could be all right." She shook her head, and in the process, she noticed Aqua. "And him?" she asked, nodding at the creature. "He says he'll be able to sense the evil when it comes. We could...He'll know. If he knows, we could stop them."
Her eyes rose a few inches to meet Joshua's. "Maybe things will be all right." But all the same, she doubted. Just a little. Had things ever been all right, really?

"We can do this." He had to believe that. If he didn't, then despair would begin to rise in his mind. Joshua didn't want to think of all the things that could go wrong. He glanced at Aqua. "Yeah. He could help us pinpoint it. If we can find the source, we can stop everything. Cut off the head of the snake and the body will die." He recalled the quote he'd been told once. He figured it would be a good strategy for this situation. Just two people out to stop a war? Then they needed to know where the war was coming from. An unseen and unknown enemy couldn't be stopped.

Tianara let out a long breath. "Well, then. I mean, if he's what he says he is, he probably already knows. But we should still let him in on it." She glanced at Joshua uncertainly. She thought it was the right thing to do, but she didn't know very much about war - she had lived sheltered, and at the moment it was very frustrating.
But Joshua was right. They had to know their enemy. To do that, they needed Aqua. Or Mac. Whoever he was. And if they needed him, he had to know why.
Already this was beginning to look a little awkward. But they had to do something. She couldn't let her family be hurt. She couldn't allow the merfolk to be wiped out - which she felt they would be, if there was a war. What weapons did they have? What chance did they have against the vastly superior - in number - humans?

Joshua kept his face carefully neutral. "It's your call." He told her. Tianara was the one who lived with the merfolk. It wasn't his place to decided whether or not to tell someone. It wasn't his opinion that mattered. She had to believe it was the right thing to do. Though inside he did believe it was the right choice. They needed Aqua's powers and it wasn't fair to keep something like the merfolk hidden from him. 'Besides, if he is the essence of water, then he probably already knows.'

"No, it's not," replied Tianara calmly. "It's our call. I'm the one who's lived with the merfolk, but you're the one who has dealt with him." She nodded at Aqua. "And you're the one he'll pay the most attention to once he's Mac again. So you're not going to dump this all on me," she added teasingly. "Come on. We'll talk to him." It was the right choice. It had to be. If it wasn't, they were already done for.
Stepping towards the creature, she asked, "Aqua? Can we speak to you a minute?"

Joshua shook his head, smiling slightly. "I didn't think it was my call because I'm not the one who lived with them. I'm just a visitor, not part of the family." Shrugging, he too move closer to Aqua. This was the right choice. Wasn't it? He ran one hand through his pale hair, trying to push the doubts away. He didn't need doubts at a time like this.

Aqua looked back at them in response, "I listen to anything you say" Aqua said calmly.
