That's an interesting comparison.
I recieved a dervish ring in zOMG! and I already had one. So, I'm sitting here with two dervish rings, and the idea comes to me "Oh! I'll sell it and get an easy 55k."
Wrong!
Gaia admin, in all their infinite wisdom, has decided to soulbind all of the rings you have recently recieved. I can't sell it (unless I sell it to the shop for 2 gold) and I can't trade it or gift it. So it gets to just sit there, rotting in my inventory
...if I'm not free to be as twisted as I want to be?

Not really. I've purchased quite a few rings from the marketplace. They have just recently decided to do this it appears.
