Physical Description: The warning of ‘if you keep making that face it’s going to stay that way’ rings very true with Papys, who even when he’s not grinning looks as though he’s got a permanent smile affixed to his face. Tall and broad chested, he’d be an impressive specimen of a man if he wasn’t, almost literally, all skin and bones. He has a mop of sun bleached red hair and dark eyes.
Personality: There is a hero inside of Papys, who is always eager to do the best thing but even before that, the right thing. He sees no good as being too small to do, and no bad as being too small to n** in the bud. His compass for doing the right thing is extremely on point and does not falter under those above him trying to lead it astray. If he had to give up his dreams to do the right thing, he’d hesitate only for a moment before doing so. If one wanted to know the right course of action, Papys would be the one to ask.
At least if anybody trusted his inept a** enough to want to. For all of his heroic fervor, Papys is a mess when it comes to capability. While most small tasks can be done to satisfaction, and will be done eagerly and with great vigor, larger and what should be deemed more daunting (not that anything is considered daunting to the young man) tasks are best left out of his hands - he’ll bungle them somehow and they will take much longer to get done than needed out of sheer stubborn and unquitting will.
Despite his shortcomings, Papys doesn’t ever seem to be down. One may call his level and unshakeable demeanor the makings of the grandest idiot - and he definitely does not get points in the intelligence department - but it also makes it nearly impossible to overwhelm him even when forced to deal with seeming impossibilities. He’s not one for complex solutions and will always charge where his moral compass leads him every time.

History: Papys is the youngest of 3 kids from a small hold that one would deem being ‘in the middle of nowhere’, where life wasn’t hard nor did it require a lot of thought. His older siblings, Unnie and Syas, found it tedious and boring and when they left the hold. They returned after a week to discover their 7 turn old baby brother had attempted to follow after them and had not returned. Despite a search for Papys, he wasn’t found by his family.
He was, however, found by a Weyrless rider who had the sense of mind - and the honor code - to check every nearby hold to see if anybody was missing a kid. It would take nearly a month before she discovered the mostly unknown hold and would return him to his (terrified and weepingly surprised) family. It would be from his time with the rider - a young woman named Lezia - that his image of what a hero is would be formed and direct a good portion of his life.
According to his siblings, he would become unbearably just in heart and blather on about dragons even in the middle of most of his tasks.
The next time a dragon came to the hold, it was on Search. Papys, being only 12, was too young to be considered, but both of his older siblings were taken away to - ….to...Oh darn, which Weyr was it again? Papys wouldn’t be able to place it, and another Search would not come to the hold before he turned 17 - and headed off himself to find his siblings to reunite their family.
He finally found Syas - Sy’s - at Western after far too much foot travel to discover their sister had become an unaffiliated rider and left even before Sy’s had impressed. Sy’s barely tethered his baby brother to Western by telling him he’d be best to impress a dragon before he goes off chasing Unnie. Thread’s return has redirected Papys’s need to be a hero - much to the annoyance of many.
Other: Unnie is 7 turns older than her baby brother, Sy’s is 8 turns older. |
