Ro: I'd preach back. 3nodding Start mixing in random stuff from different parts of the Bible, and different versions. "Actually, that might be a mistranslation. See, in the original Hebrew, that word can mean several things, depending on the context, so some Bibles say different..." I love having parents who study religion for fun. It makes the religious zealots a lot more tolerable. I don't know why, it just does. ^^ Most of my friends are agnostic as well, though I have a friend who is atheist, one who is a witch, and some Baha'i... I dunno. i just don't think religion should separate people. I think it should be that people should learn more about each other in every way possible. 3nodding

I'm currently hosting a contest in the ATG clan...
Well, I grew up as a christian, and was very sheltered from everything else. Eventually, I started to learn about other religions though. Eventually, I got confused, and just stopped caring really. My attitude towards the whole thing is that I have my own beliefs on what is right and wrong, I don't need the promise of divine reward or the threat of extreme punishment to enforce that. My mom doesn't seem to get that.

My parents were always open with me. "If you have a question, always ask. We'll explain it, or if we can't, we'll help you look it up" was kind of their philosophy. Though I am still very sheltered compared to a lot of my friends. razz But anyways. I totally agree with your view. 3nodding What you think is right is what you should go by.

Y'know, it's funny... a lot of the Christian "right" uses verses to decry homosexuality which most religious scholars and historians believe were mis-translated...
And the ones about "abominations", as I recall, from Leviticus, also applied to fabrics of 2 different materials and shellfish. So, while you're eating shrimp in your poly-cotton blend suits...

rofl Haha, yeah. Most of the bible is probably mistranslated.
And my parents aren't too understanding about anything. My dad thinks my art is a waste of time, where I could be doing something else like learning to fix the roof or something xp most of my family is like that, really. My aunt got irritated when I didn't want to get a tattoo of a cross, and I got a thunderbird instead.

aretoo: Oh indeed. There were lists of things that were wrong, and being a homosexual was there, but apparently in the original there was no word that meant anything like that... huh. And there was a valid reason for shellfish to be an abomination, because at the time and the place, you could not safely transport it without it spoiling, or cook it very safely with the means they had at the time. So eating shellfish was quite literally an abomination because it was pretty much setting yourself up for death, or a very very unpleasant evening.
Poly-cotton blend suits should be burned. lol

I live in New Mexico. Although, four years ago, I lived in Illinois. It was when I moved that I became more of a free thinker. New town, better chance to express myself.

I've never been much of a religious person, but I've started leaning towards Norse Paganism. I like the gods and the mythology. biggrin

hehehe And David and Jonathan were VERY close friends... *snicker*
And, if I remember correctly, most scholars believe the sin of Sodom to be discourtesy to guests, rather than homosexuality. ^_^
Personally, I still *lean* Christian, though I'm not affiliated. (Not since I was about 14 or so, and got tired of "love one another, UNLESS...") rolleyes biggrin
