Nikal - 19, he/himNikal unfroze and moved to make room as several more dragons began to investigate the gathered group of people, wary but marshaling his thoughts. There was a flicker of something like pride that Bone Egg had decisively pushed her siblings back towards the goal of the Hatching so quick. Or maybe that was his bias talking. He was trying to stamp it out. Blue and Black Rosette wasn’t doing half bad either, for instance. His eyes trailed after the first woman to impress her green. Brown Paw Print had said he might do, but Nikal had been right: she would find better. “Did any of them say something to you, when you touched them?” he asked idly, not explaining what he meant. - - - Karunia - 20, she/herOkay, good, two delivered! She clapped her hands and thanked Matotoka for the assistance, but their job (as she believed it now was) was not done. Karunia turned and scanned for any more in need, moving in the wake of one of the searching dragons and brimming again with positive thoughts for them all to find Theirs in safety. She eventually led her partner in crime to another candidate that had taken the brunt of the brown from earlier. Thankfully, he was decidedly less bloody. “That’s a wake up call, huh!” she said by way of greeting. “Need some help, kid? Leg not broken right? We can tow you.” Or rather, she’d ask Matotoka to tow while she led. - - - Stormy - 19, she/herStormy wondered if they could have made things different somehow. If enough candidates could have changed the outcome by sheer force of positive thoughts. But there wasn’t anything stronger than a queen’s command, and she flinched as she watched. Astri took on a more protective stance as things worsened, and the girl was glad for it. Her hands clutched at one another beneath the billowing white sleeves, her expression mournful. She couldn’t imagine how Teth or Killakeeth was taking it, especially the former... Happy thoughts were so hard for her. She could do calm ones pretty well, or creative ones, but happy thoughts felt like so many little token attempts from someone broken. Stormy wanted these babies to have the real thing. She wanted to give them the real thing. So she tried, hiding behind both Astri and Marinel, to project apologies for what had happened as some dragonets started to sniff and prance and greet the candidates, though she was afraid to so much as move for even the happiest ones. The newest addition Astri brought in was given a curious glance and a slight nod in greeting. It was the most she could manage as she tucked into herself. - - - Dhawsn - 29, he/him“Not a good start,” Dhawsn agreed somberly. “It be like that sometimes.” But at least he got one kid away from danger...He kept a hand on Serfie’s shoulder in support as they heard the death knell of a candidate: an angry healer. It was also to make sure she didn’t suddenly start at the dragonets if the anger from before came back. Shining Star produced another blue, and Bone gave a rousing speech. Even so, Dhawsn felt the need to herd. He spotted Nonami and almost called out to them come stay by him, but the woman with them looked terribly stern, and his voice died in his throat. At the very least he could keep an eye on them from a small distance; of danger actually struck, maybe Dhawsn would find his spine again. He felt a little better seeing one of the gold twins visit Nonami with much less violent intent, but it was far too late. The Worrying had begun. Was Etansi out of the healers yet? His fool head couldn’t remember what she had told him before... “I seen you around before, right?” he asked Fisher. “You been standin’ these a while?”

MatotokaWith the first two checked after, Matotoka fell into line after Karunia. Even if it really wasn't their task to be checking after injured Candidates.....hey, if it kept them from being too close to any one baby that might have been feeling a little snippy with their teeth. Since Karunia had the charge of the situation, Matotoka just rested his hands on his hips and offered a smile to Ruunan. Hey, if he could be relaxed for right now (and keep an eye out for the three of them needing to move), he could do that.

Helane jumped when someone touched her arm, her headspace take up with the death of one of their fellows, she tried to focus on the hatchlings wandering around but other than moving out of the way when another green lashed out, she didn't do much. "Oh!" she said, heart pounding hard "No...no i'm not okay" she said, trying to hold back her emotions, she knew she had to clear her head but it was hard. She smiled when he offered his friendship, it meant a lot to her right now, she was a large girl but she was feeling very, very small. "I know, i'm trying... thank you" she said, going as far as taking his actual hand, even if he'd meant a metaphorical one to hold. The missing fingers on her hand making it weird but she didn't care, there was at least one person on the sands so far that didn't judge her for previous actions. Sinders Path she took the offer of a hand hold, literally ~~~~~~~~~~ Bekah startled a little as the candidate roused and began speaking, then she breathed out hard in relief "Oh!, oh good, you're awake" she said, smiling softly "you got tossed by a hatchling, can you tell me your name and weyr?" she asked, one, to keep him awake and two, to get a handle on just how concious or aware he was. She was liberally applying numbweed to the worse injuries but she couldn't know if he had anything internal damaged, not yet at least, "just lie back on the cot please, and stay as still as you can so we can treat you properly" she said softly, voice low and soothing. He would need stitching up but right now, it was important to clean the sand out of the wounds and make the boy comfortable, it was up to the Masterhealers if he needed removing completely off the Sands, it was up to her and the Journeymen to give him emergency treatment, anything else would have to wait if he was determined to stay. Though if he kept losing conciousness, the choice might be out of his hands.

Serfie didn't speak, she was numb, trying to hold herself together as she fought within herself after the death of the candidate, she'd seen death before, she'd seen hurt, but it was never easy to see it at the hands... or rather claws and teeth, of a dragon. her childhood nightmares really did have a source, those same nightmares had chased her since the first time she Stood at a clutch, while she was more prepared, had more practice in trying to keep calm, she couldn't help being very, very scared and as hard as she tried to keep her mind clear, she couldn't help the chill as she watched the other candidates being treated, she was definitely not going to get in the way of a hatchling if she could help it. she shuddered but didn't shake Dhawsn's hand off her shoulder as he spoke to Fisher, she had no interest in making small talk right now and kept her eyes on the dragons, not the people around her, in fact if it wasn't for the fact Dhawsn had his hand on her, she'd have forgotten he was even there. She wasn't sure what her hopes were anymore, perhaps she was just hoping she'd get out of here alive, her stomach in knots. The normal fiesty girl, pale and clearly scared, she couldn't even bring herself to be disgusted with herself for showing it. Not yet, that would come later, if she didn't Impress, she might even have to drink this Feast time,. medigel Serfie is not coping well

Nyrida, she/herThe queen wasn't the first to draw blood (or ichor), but she was still the first to lay a hand (or paw) on the other. The dragonets who'd been spilled onto the sands, at least, seemed to be well, if not distressed, but Nyrida kept her focus on the queen-green altercation. It seemed to escalate quickly, and the queen knocked the green over, a much larger dragon to push a tiny green to the ground. Nyrida wished the fighting would stop, even before it had truly begun; once they began to fight in earnest, she shuffled a little, uncomfortable and worried. She hardly noticed Daisy's exploration, nor the other Olive Gold's, short-lived as it was, nor did she spend much attention for Funfetti's hatching. Her focus was glued to the two scuffling ladies. When the gold had her sister pinned, she Commanded the green to be still, and Nyrida's blood went cold. Everything seemed to freeze for a moment, as the green stopped struggling. Shards...she was at a loss. She kept her thoughts as neutral and peaceful as she could, but the command gripped at her heart. Of course, the gold hadn't known better, but it was still a chilling, shocking thing to see, so fresh out of the shell. Dragons continued to hatch, but none Impressed. That seemed odd, from her understanding of hatchings, though it was her first. Other dragonets got involved or watched from the sidelines, with Brown Teth trying his best to mediate and calm the situation, well-meaning though he was. It only stopped--momentarily--when one of the greens swatted at a candidate, aiming to hurt, but not to kill. The fighting between sisters ended when the queen gave yet another command, and this time, one of the greens turned her ire towards candidates. Nyrida shuffled away from her, careful to avoid harm, but the others weren't so lucky, as the green tore into several of them. As Nyrida focused entirely on avoiding the green, she hardly noticed Nanner's distress until the egg exploded, and the dragonet inside mauled a few candidates that had gotten too close. She grew somewhat closer to the Bone egg, but shifted away from that, as well, as she felt the anger and rage radiating from it. Would her first hatching be so filled with stress, violence, and trauma? She had to be cautious, but she kept herself calm. When that kind individual, Papys, was mauled by the green, it once more pulled at her heartstrings. She kept her expression neutral, as always, of course, but she couldn't help the distress and concern over him. He had been so kind to her, in his own way, when they'd had chores together...she hoped he would be okay. Another candidate was mauled, and they looked to be worse for the wear. As their body was taken off the sands, Nyrida felt cold, despite the warmth below her feet. Death. Death, at what was meant to be such a joyous affair. Death at a hatching was not unheard of, but it was hardly a good sign. She lowered her eyes for a moment, as if to mourn the candidate, despite not knowing them. She hardly noticed that the green Impressed, but was relieved to see that the rampaging green stopped in her tracks, even if she was hurt by her sister's words. Nyrida relaxed a little, as only a few dragonets remained threatening. The dragon sat down, looking quite distraught. She was just an infant, after all...poor thing. Every hatchling here was in such distress... When the Bone Egg hatched into a green, she told off her father, and then turned her ire towards any candidates that had been too close. She glanced back to Papys, especially as one of the queens approached him, but there was only kindness as she acknowledged him. demon_pachabel Papys mention and CONCERN Kyzier, they/themDragonbabies shouldn't fight! Kyzier didn't try to hide that thought at all, as they watched the hatchlings. When the queen used her power of command, they hoped that would be the end of it--as inappropriate as the action was. They wished they could do something. Wished they could be the hero. But they kept themselves planted in place, despite their desire. Their eyes closed for a moment, before opening with renewed fire and determination. They would be okay, as would the dragons! When the green turned her focus onto the candidates, Kyzier scrambled away, but others were not so lucky. And then...more anger. More hatchlings. The sands were crowded, but none Impressed, and there was violence. What a hatching. They tried to look on the positives--if no one was terribly hurt, then...it would at least be a story to tell, right? That'd be good. They could write a song about it! But...some people seemed to be getting terribly hurt, and one candidate seemed to be fighting for their life. As they were taken off the sands, Kyzier was acutely aware of the death. It struck them, despite not knowing the candidate, but they were determined not to let it ruin their day. Nothing would ruin this day, the day they WOULD Impress...right? Finally, one of the greens Impressed, and Kyzier clapped, determined to shift the mood, but...THINGS kept HAPPENING???? Xahteis, he/himThe poor green. Stuck in her sisters' shadows, and the golds humiliating her like that. And then commanding them...twice! Xahteis knew how it was, to be the one that everyone overlooked, in favor of his accomplished, wonderful siblings. He sighed softly as things escalated, and shrunk away from the approaching violence in all its forms. He wasn't getting hurt, oh no, despite what he thought. He sent calming thoughts towards the greens, but shied away from them regardless, even if only one seemed ready to attack. Zarsteyr, he/himZarsteyr almost immediately felt bad for thinking that the queen could command her sister. What was he thinking? The poor little green...it only seemed to make things worse. A command was a bit heavy-handed, and it only escalated the situation, which culminated in candidates being attacked. He kept an eye out for his brother, but the shifting crowd made it hard to find anyone. Still...he noticed one candidate looking particularly upset, so he shifted over to Farallen. "Are you doing alright?" he asked, glancing towards Farallen with mild concern. He felt helpless and useless. He couldn't even protect the hatchlings or the candidates. He gave a soft sigh, but made himself smile for the other candidate.

All the violence. Despite having been at the Weyr for several hatchings now, Marinel always killed himself into a false sense of sercurity. Everyone would be fine. No one would die. It seemed he was wrong, again. The fragility of humans never ceased to startle him. He took a breath. Astri was in a protective stance. That wouldn’t do. He was sure R’elien would be in the stands, fretting over her. “Let’s just avoid claws,” he suggested. Then they wouldn’t need someone to protect them. Astri’s flesh was just as soft as anyone’s—she was in just as much danger. “Let’s back up a bit more. Astri, come on.” The girl behind them, Stormy, seemed to have the right idea. He was almost scared. Almost.

Phryana The woman resisted the urge to click her tongue with irritation as her own health was inquired to, reaching up to tap the child gently on the cheek with two fingers. "I'm fine. What were you thinking? You could have been knocked down and killed." But she kept any real bite out of her voice, not about to shout. But for a child to think to risk themselves to protect her? It should have been the other way around. She caught a glimpse of a newly hatched green boldly smacking at their huddled father--and the flash of red in Teth's eyes was enough to make her lips twist with disgust. He had no right to react so, not when he should have been focused on remaining calm and steady for his own children. Phryana turned away, dismissing the big brown. Her breath caught very briefly when one of the golden hatchlings approached, but taking in the queen's calm demeanor reassured her that there was no need to fear, here. "Keep pressure on those." Phryana instructed, rising to her feet and stepping back. If the queen wished to investigate Nonami, she had no intention of interfering. -- BukichiThe young man was trying to keep his eyes in every direction at once--and noticed sharply that the green that had emerged from the blue and black rosette shell seemed to have stopped the other angry baby in her tracks. The grey in her eyes was obvious even from here, and Bukichi exhaled roughly. What a mess. These new, young minds had already had to go through so much. One of the gold sister's approached them--Aryale, to be certain, and Bukichi followed Kiri's lead, stepping back as well while watching the exchange with interest. He glanced sharply over when one of the little green's seemed to admonish her father.... and then trotted back the way she'd come. -- AerdenToo late, indeed. Aerden grimaced quietly at the chaos all around them, but gave his head a brief shake. "Some." He said simply. "It was more... feeling, than anything." Not so much in words, unless that was what Nikal meant. As it is, he was ready to move at a moment's instance--or to help remove some of the wounded, if necessary.

Farellen turned his head to the voice "Oh... yeah just.. trying to keep out of the way.... i got trashed once, i don't plan on it happening again" he replied, turning his head more so the other could see his eyepatch and the scars on his face, the other scarring hidden by the candidate robes. "sucks to not help though"... he sighed "You doing ok?" he asked, eyeing the hurt Papys, watching as Rykin was taken off the side to the healers, a slight shudder slid down his spine as he remembered being dragged off himself.

EURYALE
There were so many greens of such various personalities, and Euryale hoped one of them might look towards her daughter. She also thought about how she'd chew F'ell a new one over how Teth looked and how he was behaving. The boy needed to control his dragon better!

Jacquol—She/Her“Lively is certainly a word for it!” She quipped back, ducking further in a slight arc around the hub of... activity. Dragons being cute and looking for theirs was one thing, but there was blood now too, and a dead candidate... no, Jackie wasn’t going to flee or move too far off, but she was more than wary now. Her heart was racing as she glanced towards the other girl—Tarnaria, maybe?—to see if she was moving along in the same watchful, nimble dance as she was. Almost made it a bit more fun, though it added the wrinkle of having to worry over someone else’s wellbeing just by association. “Like any so far? I have to say, the spirit in some of these greens has me all a-shiver! Fierce as storms and twice as pretty!”

Abandoned for the second time, the terribly abused blue wilted again, his wings and tail dragging through the sand as he padded sullenly off toward someone else that might give him what he needed. He passed by several eggs, and indeed, several candidates as well, paying them no mind. There was only one who could comfort him now, only one who’d understand how he felt!
He didn’t even look up, but collapsed on the ground across a boy’s feet with a moan of distress. Did you see what they did to me? he whined. It’s not fair! I did everything I could to help but nobody wants to listen to me! It’s not fair! Jaiyce, you’ll listen to your Maracajath, won’t you? He lifted his head and craned it upward, rainbows already beginning to form in those sad yellow eyes.

BrenleyHe straightened up in the Bone green's no-nonsense presence, watching the less belligerent dragons lounge around. As quickly as they had escalated, tensions appeared to be dying down. As long as they stayed out of that brown's path, they'd probably make it out of here unscathed.
"Maybe off to the side? And smaller steps would do, rather than a whole ramp." Bren inhaled deeply and sighed the breath back out. He wanted to be more brave in the face of all the death and mayhem, given what was to come if he did Impress, but it still hit a little too close to home. He reached over and pat at Pyper's hand, the movement too brief to be as exceedingly awkward as it might have been otherwise.
"If you look right and I look left, we can move before anything can surprise us."
RykinMost of it came back very quickly after that—the late night hatching, standing next to Ruunan, and then... well... he was still unsure as to where the hatchling had even come from, really. That would teach him to socialize on the sands. His side was unnaturally hot, but beyond that, he couldn't feel a thing.
"What color was it?" The question was absent-minded and nearly inaudible, as was the single chuckle that followed. "Sorry. Yes. I'm Rykin from Western." He forced himself to relax and lie back as she had said.

FISHER"Hrnn, yah. Was at High Reaches for that biggin', obviously didn't get anything." Fisher wasn't sure if talking was all well and good, but dragonets weren't out there eating anyone (at the moment) and it even looked like that flavorful blue from before had gone and Impressed. Two down, a sassy sire coming back with red in his eyes after being bitten, and a whole bunch more. Maybe Fisher would never be a rider but at the very least she couldn't call hatchings boring. Maybe everyone was extra spicy due to the super early hour? Either way that dragonet sure was beautiful and....oh, wasn't that the kid who'd accidentally kicked an egg at the touching? Huh, small world. "S'bout you? You do this often?" Fisher turned the question back to Dhaws, sort of a silly pick up line to calm down the clearly upset child he was holding back? Holding down??? A pet??? What.

N'man of blue FantothIf he'd been able to hear the boy call his help shoddy, he'd have tweaked his ear. He was a professional healer! But, N'man couldn't read minds or anything. He did, however, pause. "Fantoth spoke to you?" Really I spoke to everybody, surely somebody knows why they must be so violent.Plague, to her credit, only squeaked, then moved so she could reach and pat Papys' face. Pay attention here, look at her for the moment! Just try to not go between because surely he had a big one for him! N'man shook his head, then looked to Tristram. "I have the stuff to stitch him up in my bag when you're ready, Plague can grab it for you." Tarnaria"Well, I was feeling for that first one... She hatched and her moment was superceded right away, and then she got punished for being upset by her own sister!" She shook her head, following along to keep out of range of reaching claws and snapping teeth. She wasn't so much afraid, just wary. Thankfully the green who'd been so upset Impressed, bringing a smile to Tarnaria's face. "First to hatch, and first to Impress!" A blue soon followed, and Tarnaria felt... Hopeful, maybe? "They're angry and fierce, but I do like the greens. Golds are pretty and all, but I look at the color all the time baking bread." Green and blue? Those were refreshing. Green made her think of fresh grains, when they were still young and growing. Blue made her think of the sky and the water. She suddenly looked at the other girl, realizing she didn't know her. "Oh, you're from here, aren't you? I think I saw you at the hatching at High Reaches, but not there otherwise!"

The anger that she felt from Teth only had the Bone Green give another low, snarling hiss. She paused in her retreat to turn her head back and glare at the brown being behind her. Control yourself! And with that, she continued on her way. What was he going to do? Attack her? Roar at her? Spook half her clutchmates Between?
Hmph!
As she began to stomp her way through the crowd, she snarled, and once again, shoved folks out of the way. Though her eyes were red-orange, a small amount of yellow could be seen. She had had PLANS. She had had THINGS TO DO. Snarling at her father had NOT been part of the plan; neither had been watching her sisters go into a blood-bath. For Faranth's sake, this green was only minutes old and already had a headache.
Out of my way! I said out, out, out! She pushed her way through and came to stop at Charcoal Egg. Wake up already! The sooner you're all out, the sooner you can find Yours. You should have woken up sooner!
The pickings were atrocious, as far as she could tell, but this little bossy one wanted things done a certain wait. And YOU wait your turn! She snarled at Night Sky Egg that was beginning to wobble frantically. Huff. There were too many idiots out already...
Glancing back at Mint Chocolate Chip, she did turn and head butt her sister affectionately. This one was not one of said-idiots.
- - - - - - -
But there was one green who was HORRIBLY OFFENDED, and that was littel tattle-tale Purple Flying Heart green. OH PAPA! Oh, don't you listen to that mean sister of mine. You're a big ol' brown and she's just a sassy, insubordinate hatchling! She is nothing. Don't be angry or upset at any of them. We're all just trying our best, and some of my sisters are just... touchy right out of the egg. Please don't be angry with us! Please, oh please, oh, pleeeeease. We're not all bad! The little green finally managed to shatter the rest of her egg, and she hurried her way up to Teth.
Nevermind that he was talking to one of her golden sisters; this green knew that she was to wait her turn. But oh... Oh, she'd show ALL OF THEM how a Good Girl Green is supposed to be! Were any of them watching? Because they should be!
Purple Flying Heart green gave an anxious creel, her eyes turning yellow with concern at the judgment! If she glared at Mint Chocolate Chip green as she passed, well.... Of COURSE she'd follow after Bone.
