I go back and forth on the movies... On the one hand, I hate all the hype that the series has gotten, because it can't possibly be that good, on the other hand, it may just be pretty damn good.
And the chick that plays Hermoine has been getting really hot, lately.
...but I know that it's based on a series of books, and there's this part of me that has to read the books before seeing the movie and there's seven books... seven long a** books... I've read the read the work of Dumas and Dostoevsky and Tolkein, though, I mean, the Rowling's books can't possibly be longer than those, can they? I just don't know...

I think they're pretty good, at least I highly enjoyed reading them. At the very least better than Twilight xd and you have to give Rowling credit for this whole world she created. Yeah she borrowed a few ideas here and there but still.

The books are good. They aren't perfect, of course, but they're still worth a read in my opinion (if you're willing to read through 7 rather long books (they tend to get longer the farther you go in the series. The exception being Book 6, which is a bit smaller than the 5th.))
And if you compare them to stuff by Dumas or Dostoevsky and Tolkein, then no, Rowling's books aren't that long. And the fact that these are primarily intended as Children's books (or 'Young Adult.' Whatever) makes these much easier to go through than something by Dostoevsky.
All my opinion of course...

There's also the pile of books that I have in my possession that still have yet to read... Let alone the ones that I'm currently reading.
Does anyone else read more than one book at a time? Or is that just a me thing?
Oh, and speaking of creating worlds, I laughed at today's xkcd. Hard.
