Down for 2-3 Months due to Rekoriath losing an eye! Will be all healed up by mid-January

J'deen and Bronze Rekoriath

PostPosted: Sat Dec 07, 2019 6:54 am
Name: J'deen (Joradeen)
Age: 53
Nameday: 3522.11:29
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: He leans towards the fellas!
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: N/A
Physical Description: J'deen is a small, lean man standing only at about 5'6". His facial features are sharp and angled, and when he grins, he somehow manages to show all of his teeth. His canines are slightly more pronounced than average, and he takes no pains to disguise them. His hair is black and cropped short to stay out of his way, and his eyes are a dark mossy green. Though not very tall, J'deen's muscles are wiry, giving him a surprising bit of strength.

Personality: Though he may be small in stature, J'deen seems to radiate an aura similar to a prowling tunnelsnake. He's better than most people in the Weyr and knows it. He's a bronzerider, after all, and proud to belong to High Reaches. Those who do their duty and follow the hierarchy will merely be watched in an unsettling sort of way, but make no mistake, J'deen does not disapprove. Oh, no, it's those who seek to rise beyond their means and martyr themselves who earn the full brunt of J'deen's cruelty. He has no issue in cutting them down to size and making an example of them. Upstart chromatic riders protesting that they're being treated unfairly? Oh, nothing makes J'deen chuckle more. He will not hesitate to use his rank and whatever resources at his disposal to make their life a living hell until they've piped down for good or been driven out. The color hierarchy is in place for a reason, and that is why it has lasted for ages without fail.

High Reaches is the shining example that all Weyrs wish they could be as far as J’deen is concerned, and he is wholly devoted it and its leadership. He’s drank so much of the kool-aid that he’s practically swimming in it. He can always be depended on when it comes to serving his home, and he is incredibly respectful to his superiors and goldriders. He will never be a man interested in climbing the ranks, and why should he be interested? There are many others better suited to leading than he is, and he’s more than happy to use what influence he does have to aid them.

J’deen is not a man interested in change, and believes that old traditions are best. Chromatics mating with queens? Whites leading Wings into Thread? Faranth, no. There’s a reason that things are the way they are, and he will be the first to sneer at those trying to bring change in.

Positive Trait List Devoted, Cunning, Traditional
Negative Trait List Cruel, Close-Minded, Fanatical

History: Joradeen grew up as one of the many, many poor children of Nabol. Fortunately, the area he was in was not nearly as corrupt as other parts of the hold, and J’deen was able to survive by running messages for people who didn’t have the convenience of a firelizard. When he was 13 Turns, his entire life changed. A rider from High Reaches came in Search, and the grubby urchin was taken back to the Weyr once the green dragon had gotten a proper look at him. The boy was fed, clothed, and taught how to read and write. The Weyr gave him everything--and in return, all that was expected was his loyalty and the ability to perform his duty against an ancient enemy that the rest of the world believed vanquished. For a boy who’d previously had nothing, this seemed like an absolute no-brainer.

It wasn’t long at all before he was eating and breathing High Reaches traditions and ideals, and two Turns later, Joradeen’s entire life changed again. He was finally old enough to Stand, and as luck would have it, his first Hatching as a Candidate would be his last. Halfway through the hatching, a bronze spilled onto the sands, languidly shaking bits of eggshell from his hide as he rose to his feet. There was no doubts about who he wanted, and after a slow look at the boys, he all but sauntered up to the awestruck boy. Why so surprised, Joradeen? Surely you knew you were destined for greatness. Come, join your Rekoriath. I hunger.

From then on, J’deen was one of the elite--the cream of the crop. His new status as a bronzerider elevated him to heights he’d never dreamed of, but Rekoriath wouldn’t settle for anything less. They continued to work hard, and they never once doubted the fact that Thread would return, one day. It could have been seen as blind idolization for the place that had taken a young boy and provided the world for him.

When Thread fell, it only reaffirmed their belief that High Reaches was right, no matter what others said. They’d been wrong, hadn’t they? All their mockery was for naught. Both dragon and rider were exactly where they ought to be--the best Weyr on Pern, and to Between with anyone who said otherwise.

Name: Rekoriath
Age: 38 Turns
Color: Bronze
Size: 43’’
Physical Description: A scarred up bronze with thick, powerful shoulders and a long tail. His headknobs are a bit short, and his muzzle is a bit leaner than usual.
Personality: Almost primordial in nature, tending to act on instinct. His lazy demeanor hides a deceptive cunning, and when he wants something, he pursues it without hesitation. He works hard enough to keep his place as a bronze, and is extremely colorist. He is a confident dragon and the words of others’ don’t faze him whatsoever. He is cordial with other bronze dragons, and has a natural respect for queens… even if he sees them mostly as mothers-to-be.

Like his rider, Rekoriath isn’t a particularly ambitious dragon. Life is good on the top, and why deal with all the fuss of leading when they have a perfectly comfortable position as is? If necessary, he’ll lead the charge, but he’s much more comfortable allowing another to have the honors. After all, his greatness stems from how his hide glitters. Don’t tell him you aren’t enamored by it. He knows you are.
