User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Name: Akaris
Age: 22 (3553.05.22)
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Pansexual/Heteroromantic
Craft: Brothel-worker
Rank: Weyrling
Location: Western Weyr High Reaches Weyr
Physical Description:
A touch on the tall side for a woman at 5'9", with dark skin, a slender waist, and ample curves, Akaris is a strikingly beautiful young woman well-suited to her profession. She's loathe to dress anything but prettily, but even when she has to dress for functionality rather than looks, she makes sure it's still well-cut and flattering. You never know when you might need to impress someone, after all.

Personality:
Akaris is full of notions, but not a lot of sense. She thinks knows what she wants - or, more accurately, what she would like to have - but is rarely sure how to get it...or if she is, isn't keen on the work or effort involved. She'll daydream her day away with all the what-ifs and enchanting possibilities for who she could be or what she could do, but falls short when actually presented with the opportunity to make any of it happen. Because while she thinks she knows what she wants, what she wants can change at a moment's notice, what new notion strikes her and is suddenly better than the last; part of this is an inability to settle on just one thing out of so many, and partly a fear of commitment. If she chases one dream exclusively, she'll have to let go of all the other possibilities...and she'll have to actually apply herself to something fully and put in all the requisite work. Despite her reluctance to make impactful decisions, she's not without confidence in herself; she fully believes she could do any of things she wants to, it's just a matter of settling for one. She's not even entirely certain she wants to Impress a dragon, only that she wants to be a candidate and stay at Western forever.

While selective about the people she befriends in the first place (she prefers individuals who will accept her exactly as she is and won't openly push at or challenge her), she does stand by anyone she becomes close to. With people she knows and likes, or wants to be liked by, Akaris is sweet as pie. Be that as it may, she's still not the type to go above and beyond and do absolutely anything for her friends without question; she's unlikely to take anyone's chores or suffer through physical hardship for someone, unless she thinks she'll be getting something worthwhile in exchange, or they're one of the handful of people she really, truly loves. But if someone needs her assistance in a non-physical way, from advice to intervention in a relationship (good or bad), she's there all the way. She'll use rumor to her advantage, whether she's aiming for a negative or positive outcome, so if anyone crosses her or someone she cares about, they'll soon find themselves the center of some vicious but believable gossip.

Akaris tends to take the easiest route available to her at any given time, which for her generally means relying on good looks and practiced charm (often batting her eyes and playing up the pretty-but-helpless routine). If it doesn't work, she doesn't get flustered (that would be unattractive), but falls back on whatever the next best option seems to be. She can be selfish, though it's not necessarily intentional; she just doesn't always remember to consider the consequences or impact of her requests or actions (or lack of action). It simply doesn't occur to her that she could be inconveniencing others, but if it's brought to her attention and she is made to understand, she will be genuinely regretful. She has learned her leason, and as long as she understands where she went wrong, what was wrong about it and why, she will not repeat the mistake. She is also now much more likely to think through words and actions that could harm others (especially if those others are baby dragons), rather than acting out impulsively, but the everyday selfishness remains. Regimen and discipline are unfamiliar to her, and though she sorely needs both, she resents it when they're applied too directly. She has come around to undertaking hard work and applying herself to her chores and lessons, because she wants desperately to make her new family proud.

Her relationship with A'ral and R'mor - and Zinath and Junenth - is the totally unexpected yet welcome end result of the Worst Day Ever at the Touching for Vimiath's clutch. It's a day she tries to avoid the topic of, and will shut down talk of with anyone but a select few people, as it was both traumatizing and humiliating, and she is ashamed of what she did (but, again, good luck getting her to admit it unless you're special). She still tends toward dragon-shy, and is hesitant and uneasy around any she doesn't know well; quick movements, or loud or aggressive vocalizations, are likely to spook her, and unbonded hatchlings are straight-up terrifying.

Though she's grown significantly, Akaris retains a certain immaturity. She's clingy when she's afraid, doesn't take criticism or discipline well unless it's phrased gently (otherwise she will resent it and pout), and is no less vain than she was to start. She is quite convinced she's special, although she doesn't find it necessary to say so, because it should be fairly obvious. Did you see that she got to sit on Vimiath at the Hatching? Or the hat that A'ral gave her and let her wear for the beach clutch so she wouldn't get too much sun? Or that she gets to cuddle the Weyrleader's dragon? Yeah, she's special, and she will sharding own the special attention that some candidates might find mortifying, and you can bet she will keep right on holding hands with her dads during Hatchings if a certain very special young man isn't there. Got a problem with that? You're just jealous.

Having grown up in Bitra, she finds most of its entertainments range from boring to a waste of money and time. Cards are nothing but a way to pass the time, wherfights are terribly gauche, and alcohol is only appealing when it's fine enough to qualify as a luxury item. As far as a way to keep herself amused, she prefers reading and dramas...and gossip. She has a passing knowledge of self-defense, by necessity, and can cook a little, but overall is short on useful life skills. She is, albeit unconsciously (she is not very self-aware), more inclined to male friends than female, as other females register as competition to some degree, due to her growing up in a brothel.

Positive Trait List imaginative, charming, confident
Negative Trait List indecisive, vain, immature

History:
Akaris is a Bitra girl born and raised, the daughter of the madame of a brothel and one of her many clients. Lucky for Akaris, it was one of the higher-end brothels in the Hold, and her mother was well-off and well-respected, so keeping and taking care of her child was no difficulty or hardship. It was hardly a conventional upbringing, but the girl knew nothing different, and if anything enjoyed the large extended family of sorts, between the workers and their children. Her mother saw to it that she was literate and capable with numbers, and would have sent her to Crafthall if she wanted, but Akaris was perfectly happy to stay and, once she was of age, work in the brothel, which she found neither strange nor awkward. It was simply what she'd grown up with, and anticipated that she'd likely take over one day. Or maybe she could get a wealthy client to fall for her, or be swept off her feet by a charming rogue and carried off to paradise or adventure...

A few turns after she started working there, the brothel merged with another high-end entertainment house, bringing in more and better business. A couple of turns later, while on a visit to Black Sands, she was Searched by rider from Western. So of course she went! What dragon with good taste wouldn't want her? A gold would suit her best, of course, but a pretty little green or blue or tiny adorable white would do. The idea of Weyr life, however, was prettier than the reality, and after two weeks of harder work than she'd ever endured in her 20 turns, she was done. When a flit arrived with a letter from home, she sent it back with a plea to return, and a few days later, the rider employed by the entertainment house arrived to pick her up. But she wasn't quite done packing, or saying goodbye - she hadn't even made her intention to depart official - and then Vimiath's Flight happened. Suddenly, with a clutch imminent, she was having second thoughts (again), and changed her mind (again). Fi'o threatened that she wouldn't come back for her a second time, and though Akaris wavered, she ultimately stayed. If she didn't Impress, she thought she might get a job over in Rivercrest, or go to Courtesan Hall, or maybe just find an important rider to adorn the arm of, or this or that other thing.

But then the Touching happened, she ruined it and very nearly got chomped, and if she'd been allowed to, would have run away with her tail between her legs. That was not an option, however, and she had to stay for the Hatching...and shape up in the meantime, and work to deal with her brand new fear of dragons. She fully intended to get out as fast possible afterward, but somewhere in the midst of all that, she found that she had become very attached to the very people she had at first been certain were going to kick her out of the Weyr. She's ended up as part of a little family, and as a result she is finally decisive about one thing in her life: she never, ever wants to leave Western.

Green Samodith

Origin of Name: It is thought that the Veela in Harry Potter are inspired by the Vila. Samodivas, Samovilas or Vilas are woodland fairies or nymphs found in South and West Slavic folklore. In Romania, they are known as Iele. The words samodiva and samovila have Indo-European roots meaning "divinity", "rave", "wild", or "rage", which also inspired Samodith's name.

Inspiration: Samodith is based on the Veela.

The Veela are a race of semi-human, semi-magical humanoids reminiscent of the Vila in Slavic folklore. Little is known about their biology; they appear to be young, beautiful humans. Their looks and especially their dance is magically seductive to almost all male beings and some female beings, which causes such people to perform strange actions in order to get nearer to the Veela.

Veela were the mascots for the Bulgarian National Quidditch team during the 1994 Quidditch World Cup, which indicates an Eastern European origin, although the Delacours, who are from France, are proof that they can be found all over Europe.

Veela are described as looking like incredibly beautiful women, with moon-bright skin and white-gold hair that fans out behind them despite the absence of wind. They have the ability to hypnotise and mesmerise most men with their seductive dance, who will then try to impress them.

Veela are thought to have their own type of magic which does not require a wand. When Veela are angry, however, they transform into something more like Harpies — their faces turn into cruel-beaked bird-like heads while long scaly wings burst from their shoulders, and they can launch balls of fire from their hands. Veela seem to be quite an irascible race.

Personality: If ever there was a dragon in this clutch that drew the eye, it would be Samodith. This green knew she was a stunner in the egg, knows she's stunning as a hatchling, and has every confidence she will always have an audience as an adult. This green dragon knows that she's worth every ounce of attention given to her, and she knows how to draw the eye without even lifting a claw.

There is a natural confidence that oozes from her. Men, and even some females, can't help but look at her, want to be around her, want to get with her. As a hatchling she will always be popular among her clutchsiblings; as an adult, she will have males of the weyr wrapped around her pinky. Samodith hardly even has to work it to make it so; a little green-blue eyewhirl here, a swish of her tail there, and you can bet the hordes come crawling.

Rest assured, Samodith is a beautiful green. She has natural poise, and moves as elegantly on her feet as she does while on wing. She can be covered in ash and ichor and still manage to look beautiful. Worse, Samodith knows it. Her confidence is difficult to shake because she absolutely believes she IS the brightest, most beautiful, most lovely dragon on Pern.

Unfortunately, Samodith does have some ugly sides. For one, she is extremely temperamental. One moment she can be happy and content, the next she's ready to spar. She might be happily enjoying your attention, and then tell you off just as quickly. She is moody, and when her temper flares, it tends to be ugly. Furthermore, Samodith is known to be cruel. If you cant fly with the big greens, then you'd best go back to your shell. Cross her, and she will have no problem planning a way for payback; usually by charming (or manipulating) someone else to take care of her problems. Best beware, because she has no problems using her popularity to her advantage; seducing a male or female out of spite for another is easy for her; spreading rumors, tarnishing one's reputation.... Nothing is too low for Samodith. Her rider will need to try to keep their green in check from becoming too nasty, but this green is not always easy to tame.

At their best, Samodith will be a great green in whatever Wing she is tapped into. She can bring groups together when she's at her best... but at her worst, she can tear friendships and lovers apart with a flick of her tail, and have no remorse in doing so.

Positive Traits: Alluring, Confident, Graceful
Negative Traits: Temperamental, Cruel, Manipulative

Adult Size: 54'
Physical Attributes: Though she's large for a green, Samodith is still very delicately boned. She is long of limb, long of tail, long of neck; even her neckridges seem long. But there's also a softness about Samodith; she isn't plump, just the right amount of weight, and her skin is extra soft to the touch.

Additional Notes: Samodith loves Flights. She will fly frequently and leave a trail of heartache behind her. Greens, blues, browns, bronzes, even golds--no one is too good or high ranking for Samodith. And rest assured, capturing her heart is going to be mighty tricky, if it ever is to happen at all. She's too good for all of you, thank you.

Theme Song: Barricuda by Heart
Egg: A small black egg.

Why Me? Akaris is special -- and Samodith is here to remind her of it everyday. The choice was clear when this green hatched from her shell--there was only one Candidate worthy of her, and that was the beauty from Western Weyr. How clever Akaris was to charm the Weyrleader and Candidatemaster from the other Weyr; how special she was to gain a gold's favor. If that's what Akaris could accomplish at Western Weyr, think of where she might go at High Reaches?

Honestly, Samodith needs someone like Akaris in her life. Someone who is equal in charm and beauty, and someone who understands that confidence (and a pretty face) can get you places. Ah, but Akaris need not fear around this green. She has enough bite to ensure any unwanted attention will stay far away; and should anyone speak ill of Akaris, or judge her for past wrongs, you can bet this green will defend her. She need not hold onto her fathers' hands or even that cute boy--she can now stand tall with her Samodith. This green will help turn Akaris into a more decisive individual, for as far as this green is concerned, there is nothing they can do wrong. Take a risk, for Samodith is here to support you.

In turn, Akaris' charm might keep the green from souring into the nasty beast she can be known to be. Samodith would not wish to frighten Akaris, and might well try to keep her nastiest temper tantrums in check. Unfortunately, that won't stop her completely, but if there's one being this green will defer to, it's her own beautiful, beloved, Akaris.

Impression

Quote:
Mystery Green 5
The green dragon was quick to get her feet. Like the blue on the sands, she moved gracefully. As she walked about the sands, it was almost as if she were floating. Her feet were delicate, her wings, partially-spread, were lovely as they dried; she was a real beauty, a real gem, and it all came so naturally.

Quote:
The green dragon looked first at Expelliarmus and then at Gryffindor, and ducked her head a bit coyly. She reached out to ever so gently touch the bronze with her snoot, but used her tail to caress the handsome brown.

Oh, you are both too sweet. Perhaps you might both accompany me then? I am rather new out of the shell. She spoke gently, affectionately. If her eyes caught sight of Perfect Isn't Easy, she let them drift over her.

That green was clearly trying too hard. Pity she wasn't a natural. As for Amortentia, well... Her green sister clearly had to contrive to get boys to look at her. So sad.

Quote:
She was not put off by Amortentia and instead sent an assuring little croon the dragon's way. Beauty is pain, and would not her dear sister rather the truth than lies? Besides... Separate, they could charm the boys, but together? They could charm the Weyr. As for that...canine over there...well. Perhaps she would be useful. Perhaps she would have enough class to join them.

Another gentle nuzzle to Expelliarmus and one for Gryffindor. Help her find Hers then? Such strong males would surely ensure she made it through the mob of Candidates safely...

Quote:
With the clutchparents seemingly settled now, Akaris took a deep breath and straightened up, though she wasn't moving from A'ral's side for anything, not even for the handsome brown - and he was very handsome - asked for the candidates to draw closer so that he and his green companion could have a closer look. She appreciated how considerate he was of his sister, apparently intent on taking care of her until she found Hers, but...no. Maybe if she hadn't been so badly frightened so early in the Hatching, or if Rylyrr was still with her, she might have ventured out, but it felt far too dangerous, especially with the pair of dragonets chasing each other through the candidates.

Though it didn't look to be aggressive at all, at least not intentionally so, she would far rather stay out of their path if at all possible. Surely Imperio and Amortentia would understand that she had someone she didn't want to leave (though for her own comfort and wellbeing), and besides, she was quite sure she wasn't the candidate either of them or any of the others might be looking for.

So she would just stay right here.

Quote:
The green dragon was pleased. She didn't need to lift her head high or flaunt; she simply wished to walk upon the Sands with her handsome beaus, and look at the Candidates. She periodically stopped to gently nose at one or two of them, taking great pains to step over any bloodier patches of sand.

So many to choose from... However shall I decide? Might either of you find Yours among them, do be sure to Impress. She instructed helpfully. She wouldn't be offended in the least. Such handsome, strapping browns and bronzes deserved top choice.

Perfect Isn't Easy was all but forgotten.

Quote:

The green dragon walked with Expelliarmus and Gryffindor. The two boys seemed to be vying over her, and she couldn't help but be pleased. On the one hand, why shouldn't they? They both seemed like such nice boys, and were certainly handsome. Still, they were just boys, and there were so many of them with which to admire. And yet...

It wasn't the boys that drew her. No. The boys could wait. While the brown and bronze bickered, the delicate green, with one last fond nuzzle, suddenly untangled herself. She drifted over to where someone far more beautiful, lovely, and wonderful sat. Someone who was alone... and with such a heavy heart.

Akaris.

The tears, the fear, the sadness. Tentatively, the green reached out. Her touch was soft, but comforting. Her eyes whirled a mix of yellow-white, and she gave the softest creel. AkarisMine... I know you are afraid. I know you are hurting. But please, let your Samodith in. You are a gem to be treasured, and I will and would never hurt you. Nor, my wonderful, most sweetest love, would I ever let any hurt you. Never again. Please stay with me....trust me... and know that I am, forever and for always, yours.

Quote:
All that was left for her to do was wait until the Hatching was over, and it would be a long wait indeed: so many babies left to Impress, so many left to even hatch, and she had no choice but to wait it out. She didn't want to, in fact she wanted nothing more than to be off the Sands, to press up against Zinath or Junenth - whose gentle mental weight she could feel, leaning into her - and sleep hidden safely away by wings, but she'd started this, and there was no backing out in the middle.

There was, however, a step or two of backing up when the bright green being fawned over by both bronze and brown made it over to where she stood with A'ral, coming closer and closer. If she'd still been Rylyrr, she would absolutely have been clinging to him from behind, but she had enough presence of mind to know that here and now, with A'ral, she couldn't. Whatever the dragonet might want - would it chide her like the dark green on the beach? - she knew he wasn't meant to interfere. The illusion of safety had been lovely while it lasted, but it broke into pieces in the presence of the young green. She looked nothing like her rampaging sister, but after being hurt, unknown and green and close was met with a spike of fear through the mental haze that had otherwise set in. Her ability to keep her fears in check had been pushed past its limits, no matter all the work and training, no matter who was near.

But there were no claws, no teeth, not even a reprimand as she stood quaking, effectively backed into a corner. There was only softness, a gentle mental caress, offering comfort...pleading to be let in. And indeed, in that first half a moment, before she could process anything at all about the nature of the mind pressed against hers, she had flinched away reflexively at the contact, unconsciously throwing up a wall. She was defenseless physically, but-

But there was nothing to defend from. Yellow-white eyes became gray-white, and the bright, beautiful green creeled again. Please...

But...this was impossible. "But- Why?" she finally choked out, voice breaking. Samodith couldn't possibly want her, she was- she was the candidate no one should want, had been absolutely certain no one ever would. "I-"

Samodith crept closer, stooping her proud bearing low to press herself against the sand, to prove that she was no threat, and laid her head at Akaris' feet. Because you are perfect. You are special. You are Mine.

The mental wall crumbled, and so did Akaris, who fell to the sand before Samodith with a sob. The green rushed to carefully - so, so carefully - place paws on her shoulder and envelop her with her wings, eyes filling with rainbows at last.
