After depositing Ovshth and Ilauria at the healers, it was back to the queen’s wing. Thankfully the return flight was just as smooth as the catch, though Rhea didn’t hold her breath that it’d stay like that.

Signaling, the goldrider pair made a sharp turn, Eirinth angling a little steep at Rhea’s request. It allowed the woman to catch the whole of an irregularly shaped clump without fear that the wind would catch them off guard.

Ky'ra and Gold Zultoloth

As they rose to join the wing, Ky'ra and Zultoloth were pelted by a heavy rain of thread. With a squeal of pain, Zultoloth tried to maneuver out of the way, but even her relatively small frame was far too large. At Ky'ra's urging they darted between, but the pain did not leave them upon their return.

Ky'ra and Gold Zultoloth

It was over too soon. Perhaps the healers had cleared them too quickly. Perhaps the thread had been too much for the little queen. Perhaps the flamethrower had jammed again. Whatever the reason, thread wrapped around Zultoloth and Ky'ra, scoring them heavily from all directions. With a scream of agony, the little Queen followed Ky'ra's increasingly muddled direction... and appeared from between some distance from their intended location. Directly above another tangle of thread.

The pair fell, a shred of consciousness just enough to call out for aid... Kiri... can't... let...

Oh, no no no! Eirinth bugled her alarm as another dragon fell from the skies, this time a queen. Hadn’t they just gotten back to the wing? Rhea confirmed it as they called their target and sped to meet them, her expression grim. Zultoloth was larger than Eirinth; it was going to be a lot trickier than catching a small brown. Not that Eirinth was the least concerned, which was funny considering she fretted about everything else whether she showed it or not.

< We’re here! > the gold said to Ky’ra, though by then the woman’s consciousness was fading, and the queen kreeled in distress when she sensed the other gold’s blank mind. Had their flamethrower jammed as well? Rhea had been lucky so far, but it was a much too common problem today. Oh, no no no!

The initial catch was bumpy, with Zultoloth’s bulk starting to slide to one side as they fought the winds, though it grew easier the further down they were. Even Rhea attempted to help via grabbing Ky’ra’s riding leathers and holding tight to her own, a risky and perhaps pointless but nonetheless fiercely supportive action as Eirinth turned and eventually balanced the unconscious pair on the ride down. On landing, the gold maneuvered to a spot as directed and gently tilted her wings to let them slide down and into the healers’ hands, eyes whirling yellow as she watched them be swept away to triage. She had half a mind to just sit at the triage, maybe with Killakeeth to pass the time, and just soothe those coming back.

Rhea wordlessly touched her with a note of sympathy, but the answer was obvious. And up they went once more.

Mr Cheri

Quote:
Up you go! You're not going to let this dragon fall -- not on your watch! Though they land awkwardly, and start to slide, your queen is able to quickly better position herself beneath the dragon. All that practice has paid off, and she knows exactly what to do. Bravo! Now back to the Weyr so you can get back to your Wing!

Pemli and Gold Ningesth (Queen's Wing, Full Flight)

Pemli had hoped the quiet would last longer, but unfortunately it seemed some more Thread had slipped past the wings above. She instructed Ningesth to go after it and her gold did as she had been told to do. Unfortunately, as Pemli goes to flame it down, she misses it and it hits her beloved gold instead. She hears the mental cry of pain, just as they blink between to get rid of the Thread. As they pop back, the Thread falls off, completely frozen.

I am sooo sorry, Ningesth, I didn't want you to get hurt, the young woman squeaked.

It is fine, I do not blame you. I know you tried your best, we will just do better next time, the gold soothed, knowing her rider was hard enough on herself.

1) 37. 35-40. You want to do more. You want to be more. You're frustrated by the lack of action down in the lower wings, though you do now it's a very important role. You fidget in your riding straps. If this is the 3rd time you roll this in the game you now suffer 3 turns of Antsy You are too eager to get out there and fight. Any successful flaming down of Thread yields double XP but also causes can extra Moderate Damage -3 HP. In your hurry to flame Thread you make rookie errors, such as flying into the ash cloud, flying into your fellow wingmates space and getting burned, over-reaching and pulling a muscle, not sitting right in your straps and getting whipped around, etc. (only first time)
2) 86. 85-89. A tangle of Thread manages to slip through! Though you try to get it, you're not fast enough, or aim was way off base. Though it doesn't hurt you and your dragon, you do watch as it makes it through the last line of defense, to fall upon the helpless world below. Crops, plants, animals, and even possibly people are now in danger... you can only hope the ground crews will find the burrow safely once Thread is through. If this is your fourth time rolling this status, you start feeling Guilt [Take 3 Turns of Guilt! Any Damage rolled takes an additional -4 HP. Any successful bonuses by other players don't affect your character. You just don't deserve it.] (only first time)
3) 7. 6-15. You see a stray strand writhe out of the corner of your eye. Your rider quickly twists in her seat, and catches the errant strand with a well-timed aim of their flamethrower! +1 Target Accuracy
4) 30. 26-30. As you're looking for the rogue Thread, you notice one of your wingmates in danger. You and your dragon call out warning and are lucky to see the pair respond. Quote a Wingmate and have all damage removed from their most recent roll!
5) 13. 6-15. You see a stray strand writhe out of the corner of your eye. Your rider quickly twists in her seat, and catches the errant strand with a well-timed aim of their flamethrower! +1 Target Accuracy

Queen's Wing (Hour 1/Round 2)
1) 100. 98-100. Another gust wind blows, sending some silvery strands of Thread your way! Your dragon manages to twist their way through it with surprising and relative ease, and you're able to even flame down some of the fray! [+1 Agility // +1 Target Accuracy]
2) 59. 55-59. You dive for a clump of Thread, and successfully find yourself turning it into harmless ash. +1 Target Accuracy
3) 71. 70-74. As you're burning down a clump of Thread, something doesn't seem right.
With a sudden shout and twist, your dragon lurches to the side, as a shaffing bag of firestone comes hurdling down. Damnit! What on Pern are they doing up there!?! Amateurs! +1 Instinct

4) 29. 26-30. As you're looking for the rogue Thread, you notice one of your wingmates in danger. You and your dragon call out warning and are lucky to see the pair respond. Quote a Wingmate and have all damage removed from their most recent roll!

Any successful bonuses by other players don't affect your character. You just don't deserve it.] (only 2nd time)
2) 97. 93-97. Your dragon is starting to feel tired. This particular fight is wearing them down. A strong gust of winds tries to throw them out of their position. Roll a D4 to see what happens!
1. Success! Your dragon successfully recovers, and keeps in formation. [+1 Stamina]

3) 99. 98-100. Another gust wind blows, sending some silvery strands of Thread your way! Your dragon manages to twist their way through it with surprising and relative ease, and you're able to even flame down some of the fray! [+1 Agility // +1 Target Accuracy]
4) 21. 21-25. Well, not much is happening. Either the Wings are doing their job, or things are mighty quiet. You know your thoughts shouldn't wander or stray.... but you look away for a moment, stretching your neck, and resettling yourself on your dragons back. Unfortunately, things happen quickly. Your dragon lets out a shriek of pain as you're hit with Thread! You hadn't seen it fall from behind, too far back from where your dragon could see. Roll a D4 for Damage!
4. It's nothing but a flesh wound! In fact, your dragon was able to pop Between swiftly, so the damage is, quite frankly, nothing more than a graze. Minor Damage: -1 HP

5) 39. 35-40. You want to do more. You want to be more. You're frustrated by the lack of action down in the lower wings, though you do now it's a very important role. You fidget in your riding straps. If this is the 3rd time you roll this in the game you now suffer 3 turns of Antsy You are too eager to get out there and fight. [Once Antsy is taken, the counter for this effect is reset and you must roll this 3 more times, etc.]

2) 45. 45-50. You keep looking up, but nothing seems to be heading your way. Your neck is starting to object, but it doesn't matter. You must be ever vigilant, or so the saying goes. The Queen's Wing is an important position, but it sure can be boring... Part of you wishes you could be higher up, where all the action is. Part of you is grateful you're safer down here.
3) 5. 1-5. This clump of thread had its eye on you. It defied all the odds and made it through not one, but three wings of dragon riders actively fighting above! It's up to you to flame it! If a Queen, your dragon puts you in position, and as you go to flame it down, you find your equipment's jammed! By the time you realize what's going on, the thread is on you, your arm, your legs, your dragon's neck back, and side. It has attached, and immediately starts to feast! Queen's Wing (Hour 3/Round 1)
1) 29. 26-30. As you're looking for the rogue Thread, you notice one of your wingmates in danger. You and your dragon call out warning and are lucky to see the pair respond. Quote a Wingmate and have all damage removed from their most recent roll!
2) 53. 51-54. The Thread that you were diving to catch is suddenly blown towards you. In a swift move, you hop Between and appear beside it, effortlessly flaming it down. +1 Between Accuracy
3) 46. 45-50. You keep looking up, but nothing seems to be heading your way. Your neck is starting to object, but it doesn't matter. You must be ever vigilant, or so the saying goes. 4) 43. 41-44. You suddenly see a clump of Thread. Your dragon wheels towards
it. With a flash of hot fire, you manage to catch the whole clump, and turn it into harmless ash. And they say the Queen's Wing doesn't do anything, pfft.
You'll prove them you're just as worthwhile as any of the fighting wings. Well done! +1 Flame Length

5) 80. 80-84. A whole lot of nothin'.... Kind of boring down here, isn't it? No, no, don't let yourself get distracted by daydreams, or thoughts of a certain someone. Hmm. A certain someone in wherhide pants. I mean, what?... bah!

3) 97. 93-97. Your dragon is starting to feel tired. This particular fight is wearing them down. A strong gust of winds tries to throw them out of their position. Roll a D4 to see what happens!

That seemed so far away from the life she was living now. But she'd hold onto the thoughts at least while she could.

Day 1:

Roll 2: -15 HP - Fall(Took extra point due to guilt from being a hypocrite earlier. LOL Plus they're young and inexperienced)

With her rider's mind drifting, not paying a full amount of attention to their surroundings, it let Susurinth drift a bit herself, even if she was trying very hard to focus. There was nothing currently around them, so she was safe, but there were falling fire stone bags and other gold riders falling. The small gold was quite thrilled that she hadn't had to watch Khamaith fall from the sky, happy that for all that she'd made a mistake and felt guilty, her daughter had listened to her.

Even if she would hate her for it, just for a little while.

Her eyes, gray still from guilt, caught sight of a massive clump falling out of the sky, just like one that had hurt them before. With a shove to Pavari's mind, she angled the pair of them so that the flamethrower could singe it out of the sky. She knew she'd have to work fairly hard to dodge the ash but that wasn't an issue after the direct hits she'd taken a few times. However it was to her horror that she heard her most beloved rider scream in frustration and fear. The flamethrower had jammed.

Instantly she twisted herself, the clump catching Pavari's legs and wrapping around to Susurinth's softer stomach, but she couldn't save either of them any pain as it wormed into their skin. For a moment she got an image, the Bowl as she knew it... but it went dark, started to fade. She couldn't make such a leap, even with the last bits of her strength left as thread ate away at her. Desperately she wrapped her mind around her rider's, ready to hurl herself Between if there was nothing there, yet it seemed it had just been too much pain to overcome.

Still, it meant that there was no ease to the thread that was burrowing into her chest and stomach. One heartbeat. Susurinth's eyes turned white and she suddenly hung in the air. Two... Nothing could ease it but returning and getting dunked, the gold gave a bugle of alarm and pain. With one last fear, that she wouldn't make it completely back, being inexperienced as she was, she sent the last image she could across the ocean to a bronze she hadn't seen in it felt like so long. One last sunset, keeping the fear and pain out of her thoughts as she did so.

Three.

Pemli and Gold Ningesth (Queen's Wing, Full Flight)
(Queen's Catch, with Hatt's Permission)

Pemli and Ningesth both heard the cry of pain from one of their fellow gold rider's. Pemli looked over, recognizing it as the mother of the beach clutch, who had recently joined their Weyr. She hadn't really gotten a chance to talk to her, thanks to her own insecurities, but she bit her lip as it looked like she was in a lot of pain. That is when the woman's gold let out a pained bugle and started to fall.

Ningesth, we can't...she began urgently to her own golden dragon.

Don't worry, love, I am on it. Hold on tight, we are going to catch us a fellow gold!Ningesth assured, before letting out a bugle of her own, before diving as quickly as he wings could carry her. It was a good thing she was a little bigger than Susurinth as she managed to slide effortlessly under the other. Ningesth and Pemli shared a sigh of relief as they catch went flawlessly. Pemli made sure to keep watch over the other pair, making sure they wouldn't fall. Then the pair blinked between to deliver the pair to the Weyr. Ningesth winced slightly, feeling the claw's of her fellow gold in her back.

You okay, Nin?Pemli asked.

Yeah, just a little scratch,Ningesth assured as they got down to the Weyrbowl. Once safely on the ground, Pemli allowed the healers to take the pair for dunking. She did a quick check of herself and Ningesth, to make sure none of the Thread was on them. They were good and she could only hope the other pair would be too.

They will be, Mine. You two take care, we will check on you after Fall,Ningesth thought to them, sharing what her and Pemli wanted to do. Then the pair took off back to their wing, they still had work to do.

Pemli and Gold Ningesth (Queen's Wing, Full Flight)

After that catch, it seemed that things had quieted down once more. Pemli knew there were times with things to do and some that were quiet. This was one of those times and she didn't mind a moment to think about what had happened so far today. She had noticed another of their number had fallen before Pavari and Susurinth had. Plus, she had been sure she had seen a blue and bronze fall as well.

This seems to be quite a tough fall. Between flamethrower malfunctions and the wind, let's hope we don't have anymore fall before we are done,Ningesth thought to her rider. She knew seeing all of this was hurting her rider inside.

Queen's Wing (Hour 2/Round 1)
1) 86. 4) 21.

(only second time)

3) 5. 1-5. This clump of thread had its eye on you. It defied all the odds and made it through not one, but three wings of dragon riders actively fighting above! It's up to you to flame it! If a Queen, your dragon puts you in position, and as you go to flame it down, you find your equipment's jammed!
