Basically, it was along the lines of:

Macs are better because they don't get viruses. Of course, this is because unlike Windows, it's a completely new type of operating system behind it. Windows just uses the same base every single time over and over again, so it's able to get the same viruses.

My response:

" Okay, I WAS going to stay out of this, but now I can't.

First off: False. Mac, or OS X, is based off of the Linux kernal, which is one of the oldest and most secure kernals to base something off of. That's right, it's a watered down version of Unix, you hear that fanboy? Good. Now, on to part two. OS X doesn't get viruses AS OFTEN ( I say that because it still does ) because most people who design viruses do so for the Windows or IBM platform, and have no knowledge of the Unix kernal, hence why before I said it was so secure. Also, the tools and knowledge bases that most malware writers use aren't compatible what that kernal, as they're, once again, designed for Windows or IBM platforms. Third. Most people write viruses to get some sort of information out of it. Most people use WIndows PCs. Looking at that demographic, which one is going to be more productive to write a virus for? Yeah. Exactly.

Next on the agenda is this comment about Windows being based on the same base. Which is also untrue, as the kernal for Windows based operating systems has been changed more than a few times, Windows 7, if I recall correctly, has a completely brand new one behind it. "

There was also a bunch more, but I'm too lazy to get the rest.

Kerri: Yeah, I don't really try to keep up, I'm just sort of paraphrasing. *whispers* They have a special sort of relationship.

Panny: Wow. The person you are discussing that with sounds unbiased and informed.

I basically ended my response ( after going into the pros and cons of each system ) with this:

Better operating system is: ANY OF THE ******** *NIX DISTROS BECAUSE THEY'RE DESIGNED FOR ACTUAL FUNCTIONALITY RATHER THAN TO BE ******** SHINY.

User ImageI swear by my pretty floral bonnet...

Panny: I am SO glad you told them off. -___-

Tae: *whispers back* Yeah, I've noticed that it's pretty special. Don't worry, though, I heard nothing.

...I will end you.

Wait wait wait.. What you guys whispering about >_> DOES IT INVOLVE ME? I WANNA KNOW IF IT DOES > sad

And yeah, I actually can't wait until the site owner sees my response. I'm sure he'll get a kick out of it because he's a big *nix fan. ( I have been in more than a few debates with him about preferred distros though. Sorry, but I love me some Solaris, though I guess he's set with his Archlinux )

My brother alternates between Solaris and a Mac. He likes them both. I've never used Solaris in my life.

I'm partial to Ubuntu, but I haven't really played around with much else. I don't have any particular dislike for Windows, except that it barely runs on my computer. I've found the Linux community in general to be very friendly and willing to help us newbies, though. It can be overwhelming when you first start out.

Yup. That's what's so great about the linux community. You go on to one of their boards and say " I'm new and I don't understand this very well " and you'll have tons of replies in no time from people who WANT to help you learn it. They're kind, they're patient, and they're more than happy to set some time aside to help a newbie who needs it.

Go onto a board for something filled with windows or mac users, and generally you'll be hit with blunt elitism...

You'll swoop from incredible highs when you're just glad to be alive,
to those lows when you wish you were dead.

And just when you start thinking that you've accepted who you are,
that changes,
too.

Rica: DAMN STRAIGHT YOU LOVE US. 8D

Panny: We were talking about your face and how horrible it is. 3nodding

I KID I KID YOUR FACE ISN'T HORRIBLE, PANNY, DUN HURT ME.

Also, I agree, the Linux community has been very understanding, from the few times I've ventured to get help for ubuntu.

I think it's because it's typically something that everyone's had to deal with when using Linux. Everyone is a newbie at some point, it's not really something you encounter in school or at home unless you specifically take courses in the subject or have a parent who's a bit of a geek.

I still feel like a total idiot when it comes to my operating system, but I do love it.

@Kerri- Was there any doubt? ;O

Am I the only one that uses Windows because I don't have a laptop or anything to play with the other OS with? :C -doesn't want to do anything to screw up her computer or make her lose access to her games-
