        Physical Description: Of average height and build [somewhere about 5'4" or 5'5"], the easiest way to pick Rae out of a crowd is her bright red hair, which is long enough to be pulled into a ponytail and often is. Her hazel eyes are sharp and attentive, her skin light and easily burned. Pockmarked skin on her cheeks, nose, and shoulders often get covered with makeup. There's a small scar through her upper lip/cheek from her last attempt to get near a rowdy dragonet. No matter what shape she's in, her nails are always cut short and clean.

        Though she never willingly talks about it, it's easy to see Raelin has a noble's bearing: the sharp gaze, the unflinching hands, the aura of an alert hawk. It's exactly that upbringing that she can't relate to, however, turned off by years of political intrigue and little courtly games that drove her mad. She prefers honesty to the point of bluntness and returns it in kind, desperate to hide her inbred sense of class-ism by treating everyone equally: like s**t.

        Not that she can't socialize. She'll happily do so, albeit with a quick wit and a dry sense of humor, as if everyone around her is some degree of stupid. (That pride is something very little can hide.) It's her defense mechanism against being treated any differently as well as her excuse to make people hate nobles more--they should, the majority that she knows are all pricks and primadonnas. It makes for an odd mix of a person, one who doesn't enjoy her own background but still acts as though her individual self should be held in high regard. (Again: can't relate.)

        Raelin works off a meritocracy system: only capable people are worth spending time with. This is why she works herself to the bone to live up to this expectation and why she developed a slightly neurotic need to make sure everything is done perfectly. Relaxing is for the lazy, sleep for closers. Her idea of fun is throwing herself on her bed at the end of a day and burning several chapters through whatever novel she happens to have. (Most are romantic in nature--she would die if anyone learned.)


    โ˜… history


        Third daughter to a minor holder and his mistress, Raelin never had anything special expected of her beyond the usual: don't sully the family image. Of course, everything else expected of her wasn't overt, and she learned quickly what these shadow rules were. (You are lesser than the true blood. You're a b*****d child. You're a reminder.) For a while, she thrived off of making a little anarchy just to upset the delicate balance. It wasn't as if they were really highborn in the end, right?

        When she was old enough to work, Raelin was immediately dropped off at Highreach. The pretense was for her to work as an apprentice under a healer, but she knew what it really meant: get out. Thus she worked hard to learn her craft until a dragonrider collected her as a candidate.

Origin of Name: Saith's name pays tribute to Myลan Eisai. He was a Japanese Buddhist priest, credited with bringing both the Rinzai school of Zen Buddhism and green tea from China to Japan.

Inspiration: Matcha is finely ground powder of specially grown and processed green tea leaves. It is special in two aspects of farming and processing: the green tea plants for matcha are shade-grown for about three weeks before harvest and the stems and veins are removed in processing. The powdered form of matcha is usually whisked into water or milk.

The traditional Japanese tea ceremony centers on the preparation, serving, and drinking of matcha as hot tea and embodies a meditative spiritual style. In modern times, matcha also has come to be used to flavor and dye foods such as mochi and soba noodles, green tea ice cream, matcha lattes, and a variety of Japanese wagashi confectionery. The powder itself is sometimes flavored as well.

Personality: This delicate looking green is as surefooted and certain as any dragon could possibly be. Right out of the shell, Saithโ€™s unshakable and calm headed personality began to shine. Even hatched into uncertain beginnings with the unknown ahead of her, she had all of her ducks in a row and never worried that hers would not be there. There is no doubt that exists innately in this little lady's heart.

If there were to be a dragon that could and would be baited into a trust fall exercise time and time again, it is Saith. As she is ready to play her own part, she fully believes everybody will also play theirs without second guessing it or looking before she leaps. Those around her will have her full trust - no questions asked. In turn, if there was any dragon that could be trusted at solely her word, it is none other than Saith. If she says sheโ€™ll be there, she will move Thread and Between to be exactly where and when she promised. Those who break their promises to her, no matter the size, will find themselves scorned by the green and as she grows older, Saith will be more obvious in her distaste.

Saith is very careful to not overpromise herself and will be prone to double - or even triple - checking any arrangements she makes. Her bonded better be ready to get a headful of reminders because this green will inform them repeatedly - and double check with them at any slight inkling of doubt. Any arrangements they make will be similarly tucked away by this little lady and if they ever even dream of being late sheโ€™ll drop them off 5 minutes early - even if this means cutting both of their breakfasts short!

Even those who have earned Saithโ€™s scorn for previously broken promises will find she will agreeably work with anybody - whether they come looking for her to guide them or for her to fall into line to help with a task theyโ€™re leading in. This little lady is ready to be what others may need in a pinch - or to help her bonded be exactly what they want to. Whether that means becoming a leader to take hers as high as they want to go or falling back for less limelight, Saith will be content.

As organized as she is, this little green often will miss jokes - especially well played ones - completely, and even if she doesnโ€™t will take longer than usual to get them. More often than not, the punchline will have to be explained. Fortunately, she doesnโ€™t get frustrated or embarrassed about this and who knows, maybe someday sheโ€™ll be the one to pull out the mother of all jokes when nobody is expecting it.

Physical Attributes: Saith is very delicately built, with slender limbs, a short neck, and a long tail. She will be great at agility, but is fragile and prone to bruising if hit too hard.


Additional Notes: Saith will never enjoy particularly warm days or particularly cold nights. If not promised to other things, she will always find a nice place to cool off and even if too big will try to burrow under her bonded's blanket with them.

Why Me? Raelin's strong work ethic appeals to Saith, who wishes everything to be just so. Mine, won't you please move those rocks two inches to the right? Both of them find honesty to be an important quality, and Saith appreciates Raelin's commitment not only to her, but to everything she sets her mind to. They both have their idiosyncrasies, and that makes them a stronger pair by far. Don't worry, Raelin. With Saith's help, you will get that task just right. ... Err, a little to the left. There.
