The feminine voice echoed through the relatively empty streets from behind the group just before something crashed into Zuhra from behind, clipping his shoulder as it ran by. The figure was small, but their form was concealed in a heavy cloaked. However, given the potato that landed in the slush in front of them, the guess was that they were the thief, and they were stealing food. A moment later, a short young woman came around a corner behind the group, though she paused to catch her breath at seeing how far ahead of her the thief was. Her red hair had mostly fallen out of the bun atop her head, and given the sweat covering her exposed face, she's been chasing them for a while. Her clothes were dirty, but that seemed to be from more than just the chase.

A woman's voice rang out from behind them, being amplified from the narrow alleyway it originated. Before he could turn to see the commotion though, Zuhra would find himself being rammed into from behind as a cloaked figure darted past, dropping one of it's spoils of war in the muddied ground as it continued it's escape. A audible click of his tongue could be heard as he motioned to Lupus with a wave, ❝Go on King, I'll handle this,❞ the vampire remarked before starting to dash after the thief. He would channel chakra to his eyes, and laid out before him was a phantasmal show of the thief running away, like a comet in the sky leaving a trail of light behind it.
Zuhra would use this to his advantage, taking his take of chasing the subject to carefully observe their choice of motions, like which foot they preferred to put more weight on as they ran, or their preferred choice of taking a left or right turn. As he built his dossier on the poor thief that had bumped into him in his mind, he kicked his speed into high gear in order to do his best to gain on the subject and apprehend them, doing his best to follow the ghostly apparition as he working on finishing his observation of his target, putting to good use his skills in hunting humanoid creatures.

Glancing to the left casually, Lupus watched someone bump into Zuhra before continuing to sprint off forward, leaving behind the potato that had landed on the ground as they did so. From their size he surmised they were younger than average, most likely a street-rat trying to get by with some food for either them alone or perhaps even a group of people. Reaching up to scratch the back of his head for a second he nodded to Zuhra as the man took off, though not before throwing a shout behind him to mess with him. "Will do Knight, though you might want to check your pocket while you run~" With that said he turned around to face the panting girl who stopped just near the corner, his face turning serious as he strode forward gracefully, his giant body somehow weaving through the crowd and stalls seamlessly. Within ten or so seconds he stood before her, towering above before he crouched down to be eye level with her, giving her a soft smile before speaking with his usual Voice of the King. (hehe)
"Take a moment, my companion Zuhra will catch the thief in no time. While he does though why don't you tell me what's going on fully; have you seen the thief before? Did you catch a glimpse of them at all? Any information could help stop them if it goes past one thief." He kept the gentle smile on his face, looking her in the eyes briefly before crouching down to make himself more comfortable instead of hunching over while he waited. Despite not knowing for Zuhra long he could put faith in the man with how he acted so far, he wasn't one to boast without reason; such as saying for him not to follow and stay behind while he chased the thief. It wouldn't be just a random statement, it meant he would catch them and bring them back even if it took a little while. As such he was able to mostly relax while facing the girl, though he did keep himself ready if she turned out to be tricking him, a bad habit from before he went into the crystal that apparently carried over.

With the steel handle twisted and cast in such a way that it looks like human faces are screaming out from the shaft and the bladded edge of the Gunbai seeming to reflect light in odd, twisted ways it is clear that whatever its origins it was clearly designed for fear. Yet the truly horrific parts come when Usugi is awoken, caused by fifty [50] Chakra or Stamina points being spent as a sacrifice to the thing that guards within. tab → The Howling Shards ► Water and wind, fire, earth and lightning powers controlled by the wielder find their techniques altered thematically when used alongside this weapon. Wind howls with the screams of the dead and damned, with fire morphing into the expressions of those who died in fire. Water is blacker than sin and carries with it the reek of fetid blood while electricity snarles into demonic forms. The earth, tormented by its power, is black and rotted with decay, carrying with it the sweet stench of death. In effect techniques being used inspire a negative effect, a chilling, dark energy that borders the unholy power of corruption. C - ranked Shadow damage is constantly applied alongside the damage of the attacks, something that bypasses Defense and does half again [50% More] more Durability damage than before. This effect lasts for three [3] posts, with an upkeep of 30 Chakra or Stamina per post after. tab → The Crawling Chaos ► Use of this weapon comes at a cost as the mind begins to rot with each post sustaining the evil power of Usagi. For every three [3] posts being used apply one [1] point of Spiritual corruption upon the body. At every ten [10] points of Corruption the body gains an Echo Intrusion affliction. These Intrusions alter the physical body and emotional state of the figure in some way, while providing a bonus in its place. These may be submitted as "custom techniques", though in all cases there is a negative as equal in strength as the positive, and will include physical alterations.

(A quick note since people seem to overestimate how populated the town is: it is split into several districts, yes, however only just over 100 people actually live in the town; the rest, maybe an additional 100 or so are visitors of varying races; mostly merchants and traders but some refugees as well. Because the residential district is only home to the people who live in town, and most are probably out working, the streets are super quiet.)
Zuhra certainly gained ground on the thief quickly, outpacing them in part due to longer legs but also the enhanced speed from training. As far as information went, the figure seemed to favor the right, both taking heavier steps with the right and taking right turns. However, seeming to sense how close the vampire was getting to them, they switched directions suddenly, taking a left and disappearing out of sight. Upon rounding the corner, though, Zuhra was met by an empty alley leading to a dead end. No traces led up or forward, simply... ended after turning.
In the meanwhile, the panting girl looked past Lupus in an effort to see what was happening, although she did relax, seeming satisfied that the thief would be caught. "She's a refuge from Tsukihara, not quite a resident here yet. She's maybe eleven years old." The girl put a hand to her chest, taking a deep breath to steady herself. "I caught her stealing from the fields south of town, and have been trying to hunt her down since yesterday. I happened to spot her again just now, but... well, she got away again." She gave a small grimace. "Every time we think we've got her, she just... disappears for a while."

Edit 3: Friendly reminder)) Zuhra's work paid out, he managed to catch up to the little thief in due time, but before he could actually apprehend them the little one took a sharp turn that was different from all the rest. Not one for wanting to lose his target, the teenage vampire did the same but came to a sudden halt when he saw the alleyway she turned down was a dead end, but that she was no longer there, and his technique had worn off. With a sigh he would take a step back into the crossroads of the alleyway network so to speak. Should she have used some high maneuverability technique or something of the sort, Zuhra went through the seals to create a crow clone that dispersed and went flying above the buildings to get an aerial view and give chase if needed. He didn't stop there though, and created an astral projection back at the main street where he encountered the woman and thief originally.
Next Zuhra would funnel the same amount of chakra as before back into his eyes to reactivate the Ghost Impression technique and find out just what she had done and potentially give chase if needed. If the little one had simply vanished, he would stay here and play the waiting game. If the ghostly apparitions showed she went somewhere into the alley and then vanished, and it wasn't like a trap door or hidden entrance, then he would simply pretend to walk past her in search of her and then quickly pin the thief against the wall with the element of surprise. Should the girl remain invisible even to his hunting abilities, then he would simply crouch down at the intersection and speak,
❝Okay little one, I know you're here, and that you're probably using some third-rate invisibility technique or some low-grade hiding ability that I could quickly snuff out, but that would require work. How about we make a deal, okay? If you come out and talk to me, I won't hurt you, and we can just talk it out and go from there, but if you make me come find you..❞ His voice trailed off. Of course, should this be the true course of action he had to go through, then what he said would be transmitted to the others via the rainbow colored hazy projection of his silhouette aside from his eyes as vibrant as ever, probably standing behind or nearby Lupus, depending on how far he had to move to go meet the woman. Should one of the other plans have worked out though, he would report that he was either still following the thief, or that he had caught the thief.

xxxxxMasako would finally catch up to Lupus just as the shopkeeper was explaining the situation to him. It seemed that Zuhra had once again dashed off trying to be some kind of good samaritan. Masako sighed as butted into the conversation. "She doesn't have any family here with her? And can you tell us which field in particular she was stealing from? She will likely to try to steal from there again, so its worth checking out."

Watching the girl before him catch her breathe, Lupus remained quiet; having already stated his questions and intentions to her clearly. When she eventually spoke he nodded his head along, committing the information to memory before glancing to his right as Masako ran up alongside him and also asked the girl questions alongside him. She wasn't wrong in her questioning so he remained silent before nodding to agree with her words. After a second of thought he spoke, adding his own two-cents. "In regards to the girl herself, do you know if she has any ninja training? She was moving rather quick for a young child, especially considering Zuhra wasn't able to catch up right away, and he's a fast fellow from what I can tell of him." His words were accompanied with an amiable smile, giving even his rough face a gentle appearance to it. He wanted her to feel like she could trust him with any information, not to say she couldn't of course but that's a tale for a different time. He glanced over and exchanged a look with Masako, one that conveyed he would have her continue questioning her since typically women were easier to open up to fully, especially one with pink hair. zehahaha.

The ghostly impression did indeed reveal to Zuhra what had happened, to an extent. A spectral image of the figure dashing around the corner appeared, along with revealing the flash of a hand seal before the thief dove at the ground in front of them. However, rather hitting the ground, they passed through it, disappearing out of sight. So they hadn't in fact 'vanished', but used some other technique to move through the earth instead. Which meant they could be anywhere. Also meaning wherever they were they probably couldn't hear the young vampire.
The young woman turned her gaze to the newcomer, Masako, with a slight furrow of the brow and a tilt of her head. "To be honest, almost none of us have family here. We all lost our families to the curse." She shook her head, pushing the subject aside. "As for which field, we only have two at the moment. Potatoes and radishes, since they grow well in the cold soil with tending. As far as I know, she's taken from both." Crossing her arms, she stuck her hands in her armpits against the cold. "It's hard to say if she has any training. As long as scrolls are returned to the library, we don't really have restrictions on who can borrow scrolls, since everyone needs to know how to defend themselves, but as far as we've seen, all of the Wakeners have also started with knowledge of one technique as well. Whatever she's using to get away might well be that technique." She paused, her gaze turning down to her feet. "Sorry, but I don't really know much more. Like I said, we've been trying to catch her for a while now."
Zuhra would finish his speech just as his technique had caught up in time with him. His head would follow her ghost-like silhouette as she rounded the corner, ❝Ara, a hand-seal..? Uwah, underground!? Scatter!❞ His voice was relayed to the group in the main street from his rainbow distorted silhouette as his reaction played out to what he saw. When he had yelled scatter, somewhere deep in the alleyway network off in the distance burst a flock of crows high into the air that began to spread and fill the air flying in what one could assume was some type of search patterns. Jumping back to Zuhra himself though, a single crow had remained at his side, perched on his shoulder so that he and his clone could relay to each other in real time.
Taking a sharp deep breath, Zuhra would launch himself from his crouched position into the air and land at the highest available perch within ten meters, steadying himself with his right hand while holding a tiger seal in his left as he began to focus intently, closing his eyes. The world around him was dark for a moment, but soon the light of the world around him began to flood his vision as he was looking at the combined view of all of the individual crows from his clone in the sky in search of the thief for when she reappeared.

Looking at the girl as she answered his questions about the training, Lupus nodded his head before grumbling to himself for a second. It wasn't like they could find her if Zuhra didn't, so the only thing left for him would be to try and track where she came from originally. With that in mind he looked up at her once more, speaking in a soft voice. "If possible can you show me where you first spotted her? Perhaps we can trace it back to someplace she normally goes, or a comfortable route she takes maybe. I'm not really a tracker but at least we can get the place setup for Zuhra when he comes back since clearly he's decent at tracking if he went after her." With that said he gave a gentle smile before standing up to his full height and glancing around, taking in the view of the area around him before looking to see if he could notice Zuhra out of the corner of his eye or even in his main vision through the area. He at least wanted to let him know where they were going of he could, though if not he could always embrace his loud ways and scream it to him. As he was thinking this he merely looked back down at the girl, waiting for her to respond or potentially Masako to ask anything else again.

Whether or not this is true is difficult to say at best, given none were meant to have survived, but the pale white leather that covers the faces of the weapon definitely do look and feel like stretched human flesh. With the steel handle twisted and cast in such a way that it looks like human faces are screaming out from the shaft and the bladded edge of the Gunbai seeming to reflect light in odd, twisted ways it is clear that whatever its origins it was clearly designed for fear. Yet the truly horrific parts come when Usugi is awoken, caused by fifty [50] Chakra or Stamina points being spent as a sacrifice to the thing that guards within. tab → The Howling Shards ► Water and wind, fire, earth and lightning powers controlled by the wielder find their techniques altered thematically when used alongside this weapon. Wind howls with the screams of the dead and damned, with fire morphing into the expressions of those who died in fire. Water is blacker than sin and carries with it the reek of fetid blood while electricity snarles into demonic forms. The earth, tormented by its power, is black and rotted with decay, carrying with it the sweet stench of death. In effect techniques being used inspire a negative effect, a chilling, dark energy that borders the unholy power of corruption. C - ranked Shadow damage is constantly applied alongside the damage of the attacks, something that bypasses Defense and does half again [50% More] more Durability damage than before. This effect lasts for three [3] posts, with an upkeep of 30 Chakra or Stamina per post after. tab → The Crawling Chaos ► Use of this weapon comes at a cost as the mind begins to rot with each post sustaining the evil power of Usagi. For every three [3] posts being used apply one [1] point of Spiritual corruption upon the body. At every ten [10] points of Corruption the body gains an Echo Intrusion affliction. These Intrusions alter the physical body and emotional state of the figure in some way, while providing a bonus in its place. These may be submitted as "custom techniques", though in all cases there is a negative as equal in strength as the positive, and will include physical alterations.
Despite the high vantage point and the multiple sources of sight, nothing stood out to the young vampire in the relatively small housing district. Plenty of corners and empty alleys but no sign of the girl he had been chasing. Though, to be fair, it was a bit difficult from above, given a heavy cloak was a common article of clothing in such a cold place, and many of the towns residents were similar in size to the thief, since everyone seemed to range from about ten to sixteen in age. All in all, either she had slipped inside one of the buildings, or had left the district altogether.
The young woman let out a small huff, accompanied by a pout. But whatever rebuke she had against the request she let go without mentioning it. "Alright, but we'll need to walk across town. The fields are outside the south gate. Besides that, she's shown up a few times in the market, which is on the way anyway." Her gaze drifted over Lupus's shoulder, perhaps in search of his companion before she continued. "Whenever you're ready, Mr..." She trailed off, looking for his name, but then seemed to realize she hadn't given her own. "Ah, my bad. My name is Umehiyo."

Zuhra watched and waited, but seemingly to no avail. A mild sigh of annoyance slipped past his lips, filling the air in front of him with a big ole foggy cloud of hot breath in this freezing weather. ❝Shrink the search net a bit and bring the crows in closer to get a better view, but not close enough to cause a disturbance.❞ The crow on his shoulder would respond with an affirmative remark having received it's orders and relayed it to the rest of the clone, they collectively doing what Zuhra asked.
Speaking of Zuhra, he would hop his was back down to the ground from roof to roof if possible, or from wall to wall if needed, and would return to the spot the girl vanished before crouching down and rubbing his hand over the cold soil while letting his thoughts run wild over all the possibilities and knowledge he had on her so far. If he couldn't concoct anything, then he would move on, his face souring, if she escaped here it was his fault, he underestimated his prey and he would have to deal with it one way or another. Zuhra would stand and kick at the dirt with the heel of his footwear before shoving his hands back into his pockets to keep them warm.
Taking a gander around, the young vampire would look to see if there was any windows peering into any of the buildings in this alleyway she ducked into, and if so he would meander on over and try to peer inside the buildings, making good use of his nightvision to see in the dark rooms if he could find windows, and if not he would circle around the buildings till he could. Should this fail as well, then he would simply just return to Lupus back on the main street and inform them that she escaped using a jutsu of some kind and ask the hulking figure to brief him on the subject.
Turning to the woman, he would reluctant to meet her gaze, a sense of guilt washing over him, but he would manage to swallow his pride and do so before properly apologizing for letting her get away, but also trying to reassure her that they would catch her one way or another with a fierce gaze of determination that was rather unbefitting the usual lax looking individual.

Watching the girl give a slight huff in what he assumed was annoyance at his request, Lupus allowed a sheepish smile to cross his lips before he would simply nod his head to her when she mentioned the direction they would need to go to get to the fields. Reaching up to scratch his chin in thought the giant of a now teenager sunk into thought, wondering what would be the best way to go about searching. He wasn't sure if Zuhra would turn up anything since he didn't follow him, so his last resort was to hopefully find tracks there that he could use. He was interrupted from his thoughts by the girls trailing off words of his name followed by her own introduction, upon which he would smile and greet her in return.
"A pleasure to meet you Umehiyo, I am Lupus Wood, though you may call me Lupus if you wish." With those words said he would shift his gaze to Zuhra who was entering his sight range; empty-handed and slightly agitated though it just barely showed by the slight narrowing of the mans eyes followed by a negative sign of him catching the girl. "No worries my friend, Umehiyo here was just about to lead me and Masako to the fields and market along the way, we can look for some tracks for you to follow there." With a single solid pat on the mans back, which would resonant throughout the area, Lupus faced Umehiyo waiting for her to lead them on to walk to their destination.

Most of the buildings in the town were built in a traditional Japanese style, and the style had been more or less kept through the newer homes that were built. Because of this, windows looking in were aplenty, some even having people within, lit by cozy fireplaces or lanterns. But there was no sign of the girl. However, one window that happened to have someone looking out of it likely startled the young vampire in the same way it startled the boy on the other side of the glass.
Umehiyo smiled at Lupus's enthusiasm on helping her capture the thief, as well as his support toward his friend that had just returned. The girl nodded, listening to Zuhra's explanation of what he found, looking a bit more thoughtful as he went. "That would make sense. Traveling underground wouldn't leave much of a trail. But that's also going to make it a lot harder to find her." Sighing, she turned away. "Anyway, I guess we'll start with the market because it's on the way." Moving forward, she led the way toward the bridge that connected the districts.

Much to his relief, it would appear that Umehiyo wasn't too upset at his failure, and was overall pretty accepting of the outcome. Lupus would inform the vampire that they would be heading towards the fields, taking a little pit stop at the market on the way in search of clues before enthusiastically slapping his hand across the shorter man's back in a morale raising manner which caused Zuhra to shuffle forwards from the momentum of the impact. Seeing as he had returned and the situation was explained, Umehiyo took the initiative to lead the charge on the market district. Zuhra would give a nod and motion after her for his counterpart(s) to follow and that he would take up the rear. The little vampyboy would let the group get a few paces ahead of him before falling to the ground and having a short spazzing out session while trying to rub his back from the burning sting that was infecting him. With his little show out of the way he would pick himself up, dust himself off, and catch up to the group. [exit]
