Lelte, HR, She/Her
Another day, another hatching. The young woman listened to the speech, which to be honest, she could probably recite by heart herself by now. Not that this was anything dull or routine. It could never be. It was always exciting to see new life coming into the world, and people finding the other – often better- parts of themselves. Though she would admit, if only to herself, that a part of her was jealous, as she watched this happen over and over to others who weren't her. Not that she was giving up on perhaps one day finding that joy, no far from it, but as time goes on, one does start to doubt. Just a little.
She waited her turn, calmly and politely as she did each and every time before. Bowed politely to the Queen, and the sire, as well as the queen's mate ( this alone was a little different, but she wasn't one who would insult anyone, intentionally or otherwise, by neglecting this most common of niceties). Then made her way carefully on to the Sands. Not too close to the eggs, because who would want to be crowded, and besides, who knew what the hatchlings would be like. No, better to be safe than sorry. Nor did she want to be the first line in case of angry babies. And she didn't have her brother here to protect her this time. She was alone. And that was ok.
She found a nice spot that wasn't too close, nor too far away, and she waited. Surely the babies would be starting to appear. Any second now.

Rian - she/her, HR
Traveling to another Weyr for their hatching wasn't something Rian thought she would be able to get used to --- which wasn't a bad thing! It just was so strange, and kind of exciting in a way that was just slightly different from hatchings at High Reaches. High Reaches hatchings were familiar, and of course still exciting --- but she had grown up with them happening, and they were familiar. Western wasn't familiar, for all it was still another Weyr; everything worked differently here, and though there were some things that were constants, the air of the entire thing felt subtly different to her as she stepped onto the stands and bowed as was customary.
... Alright, maybe she was imagining the differences more than not; certainly the expectations for candidates were the same! She only hoped everyone could behave, that all the dragonets Impressed, and--- and that she in particular could represent her Weyr the best way possible. She wanted to help, after all, to support the people and dragons and--- and the everything she loved so much. So she was going to do her best to stay calm, and not react badly no matter what happened, and hopefully it would go well and she would get to see all the pretty babies, and see them find Theirs in the process.
It would be a lie to say she didn't hope to Impress, because of course she did --- even if it meant staying here; Impressing was a kind of bond she knew she would never fully understand until she experienced it for herself, and she didn't mind staying here either --- a new Weyr would simply mean new friends, and she was always eager to make new friends! But--- well, she didn't want anyone else to feel left out or upset, so of course she wouldn't mind not managing it this time, if it meant they could be happy. That's how you were supposed to feel! And either way, she'd get to see the pretty, smart, wonderful babies she and the others had gotten to briefly brush minds with at the Touching. That alone was exciting in and of itself!
Checking one last time to make sure everything was in order, she glanced over the eggs, holding herself still as she watched to see which one might break shell first. Not that she had any idea about which one that might be. One of the more excitable ones, maybe? Or... no, no she just didn't know. It was going to be a surprise, and a good one, no matter which one it turned out to be.

Finnisa—High Reaches—She/Her
Finnisa for one didn't have to be told twice to be on her best behavior. She'd gotten into her share of trouble and then some in past turns, and the shame of it all still lingered over her like a sticking place to screw any chance at high emotions to. No, no thank you, she'd not be caught up in any troubles today if she could help it.
She entered the sand among the other candidates, head high but emotions kept firmly in check. There was hope, of course, simmering steadily beneath the surface—in all honesty, she wouldn't mind impressing here, in warm, sunny Western. Her sister had done at High Reaches... but... No, nope. She shoved thought of her sister firmly away, locking up those feelings tight and burying them deep. Now was the worst time to let herself start spiraling down, and she knew so much better than to let that happen. She was here to behave, and if she was lucky, impress.
She ducked a bobbing nod to acquiescence to A'ral, and again to the trio-parents as she moved to throng with the rest to their places. The sands were hot through the traditional sandals—moreso for the heat of the day and the location, but for now at least it was fine—and she shuffled into place alongside Oreune. "Can't believe it's happening... it always seems like it takes forever and no time at all for the eggs to be ready, doesn't it? Can't believe today's the day already..."

Whren - High Reaches Weyr- He Him
Whren wasn't sure what about this was making him anxious... the worry that this could separate them or that it should be done because perhaps he was holding Jemi back and that wasn't worth it either. Jemi deserved a lot. He sighed, running a comb through his loose white blonde hair, making sure to remove any things he had braided into it over the weeks.
His faire had clambered over him, humming in a choir to their larger cousins and it was setting point to his thoughts. Am I enough? Is this right. What am I doing. Circling small thoughts and the steady lift and rise of bars and enough. He was thinking in circles. Enough.
He sighed, eyes shut and just took a moment. He couldn't really take anything back and all that was left was moving forward. He brushed his robes clean from imaginably lint and dust and wrinkles. A stern warning and the swarm of flits left to find views else where and with one finally motion, he left his hair loose and down. It nearly reached his waist now.
He slipped his feet into the sandals, finality of what he was doing and let it go. This worry served nothing and would hinder him on the sands, it was time to focus on change and new life and not rewinding the past.
He joined the end of the candidate train, looking out across the sands and the slow movements of the eggs. They gleamed like jewels, like reflections of colors in rain drops or the swirling skirts of people in the best dress during feasts and it grounded him a bit, sharpened his focus on the here and now and the new life that would soon break open the shells and greet them.

Savindri - he/him
Eggs!! The really pretty eggs that weren't actually going to be eggs any longer! Savindri had practically bolted when the humming started, getting himself ready as quickly as possible and down to the entrance to the Sands. It was hard to stand still while A'ral addressed them, but he did listen. No sleeping. No burying himself in the sand. No punching eggs. He didn't anticipate any of that being a problem, not for him! He sincerely hoped it wouldn't be for anyone else, either. Those were dreadful things to do.
Well, no need to think on such matters! This was a happy day, and Faranth willing, it would stay happy! When it was time, he bowed to the parents and made his way onto the Sands - where it wasn't long before he got shoulder-checked by another Candidate. He grinned brightly and returned the gesture in kind before throwing his arm around Zhaydegan. "Really, really ready," he answered. "What about you? Ready to meet some dragons?"

Serrekhar
The big man had his arms folded across his chest, his expression seemingly bored.... save for the way he was clenching his teeth together. This was happening. This was really happening. Geez, he didn't feel ready at all. He didn't know what to expect! He bowed a bit hastily to Khamaith. She wasn't nearly as big as Esurienth... but she was big.
A grunt was pulled from him at the nudge, and Serrekhar swept his gaze across the crowd before firmly planting his feet somewhere in the middle. "Here's good." He nodded firmly, before giving a sideways look to Josen. "So, uh. You ready?"
He hoped he was.

Oranie
Despite the nervousness fluttering through her, Oranie made certain to keep a smile on her face. She... had many things to think about, after the touching at Western, and even now, she still felt as though she'd dragged Elibrie into something she'd never have wanted for herself. Quietly, she listened to the last minute instructions, and was quick to settle herself near Juhvek once she saw him. Elibrie liked him a lot, and his kindness had helped make things much easier at the Weyr as a whole.
Suppressing a sigh, she did her best to focus on the excitement instead. This was a happy day, a wonderful day!

Ollanmar
He laughed at that, pleased with the response. "You wish. But huh..." He looked at the eggs, frowning for a moment and thinking. "I'm thinking it'll be the big purple one." It had liked all the attention--surely it would want more of it, right?

Martirae of Anakumath - HR Guest
Did you find yourself a nice perch, my love? Martirae asked, despite the fact she could see the gold above, contently settled in a higher position so that those who were actually native to the Western Weyr could take the better places of honor. After all, they likely had people they wanted to see up close....and Anakumath had taken a lower position the time before.
I promise I can see just fine, Anakumath insisted, settling with all the grace and poise of a proper Queen - though with none of the pomp that another may have allowed herself. Anakumath wasn't there representing goldkind. She was there representing High Reaches. Just as Martirae was.
And what a beautiful representative you make, my love, Marty thought blissfully up to her lifemate, soaking up the wave of love she received in turn.
Marty, for her part, took a seat and settled in with all the grace and poise needed to match her lifemate. Sure, she was a Western-raised girl and she didn't feel out of place for it....but she was a Goldrider of High Reaches, and she knew that meant putting her best foot forward.

Phryana of Kleoth
It was still bizarre to find herself observing Hatchings rather than participating them, running her eyes over the candidates on the sands. Which would be the lucky ones today? The dragons certainly had their pick...
Kleoth had naturally caught sight of her siblings clustered around--and the sight of a particular green had sent a strange sensation of love and uncertainty through her hearts. She wouldn't dare intrude upon Yaguareth's ledge, and just as she was searching for another, her eyes whirled all the faster at the sight of a golden hide.
Anakumath! She cried joyfully, winging closer so that she could land to better press her head against the (smaller??) gold's head. Oh, how lovely it is to see you!
Phryana glanced upward briefly at the sudden delight that flooded through her lifemate, her lips curling with pleasure. Good. The last thing she wanted was for Kleoth to spend this occasion brooding.

Bukichi
The touch on his mind was not unwelcome, and the man deliberately tore his eyes away from the eggs to search the stands. It took him a moment, but--yes, that was Aryale. He lifted a hand, acknowledging, greeting, reassuring all in one. He was all right.
Thank you. The words were terse, but not unfriendly.

Z'haq of Bronze Eorawth, Western
Z'haq loved Hatchings. He loved gatherings of his fellow Weyrfolk in general, but he really enjoyed Hatchings. The hopes, the promise of fresh-faced young Candidates! The moment Impression happens! It all took him back to when he Impressed Eorawth and the things he felt as he met the young bronze's eyes and mind for the first time. He also took advantage of Hatchings to scope out potential additions to Flame's Fury Wing; the Wingleader of the Furies was always on the lookout for those who would fit in with the fight hard, play harder Wing.
He spotted one of his Furies, En'cai, sitting alone, and with a big grin sat down next to him. "Nice day for a Hatching, eh?" he commented. "At least it's not going down in the middle of the night again."
~~~~~~~~ Sorsha of Gold Leoth, Western
Sorsha could barely contain herself. A Hatching! Not like that was such a rare occurrence at a Weyr, but it was still exciting nonetheless. She was barely a rider at this point -- it was, after all, a full Turn since she met her beloved gold Leoth. A full Turn! Time just flew by these days, with all the training and practice. With a start Sorsha realized she wouldn't have any more training as a Weyrling. She and Leoth were graduating into full-fledged dragonriders!
She hummed along with the dragons' humming as she plopped down on a seat in the stands. Yes, Mine, it is exciting and marvelous. We must not lose our composure, however. The gentle admonishment from Leoth only made her laugh. What other time is better to lose your composure than a Hatching?
houllow drop in who you wanna drop in!
Ara | Western | she/her
A midday hatching was a genuine delight to Ara. It wasn't so early that anyone had to miss breakfast, and it got her out of her reading lessons. Those, she knew, she was fortunate to have, but she'd been struggling with reading since the Weyr learned she couldn't do it, and she found it more of a trial than any chores to which she'd been set. She felt a little guilty, but she was glad to get out of it for today and get to see a score of newborn dragons find their bonds.
She listened with half a mind to A'ral's instructions. It was how she tended to listen to everything. Fortunately, repetition had ensured that the information was in her brain, and she was never one to break rules. She had been raised to believe wholly and completely that rules were meant to be followed. She was very good at that.
And so Ara stood on the hot sands, having bowed to Khamaith and her draconic companions, looking toward the eggs with a heart full of hope.
Odellet Western Weyr, She/Her
What you know. It had started. Odd had heard about flits mimicking dragon in their humming but it was the first time she saw or heard it. It was kind of nice to have a sort of warning about what was going on, she thought as she pulled another earring free, adding it to the pile of piercings. She added the final piece, her belly piercing, shoving the cloth into the pouch. Okay, that was done.
A swift change from her clothing and into the robe. Which was rather flimsy and well plain. She wrinkled her nose and sighed, ugh. Shards, probably should take off her head scarves tooo... be too much color out there otherwise. She added them to the pile and shoved her feet into sandals. Also simple and pretty flimsy.
Probably so they were easy to replace. She shrugged and attempted to claw her hair out of her face and eyes and tie it up in a bit of twine. Lets get this show on the road and meet some hatchlings!
She grinned brightly even if most of the candidates around her towered over her. She would find a good view on the sands, the best actually. She was ready and had been looking forward to this event since the touching. "I can't wait to meet you." She muttered, giving her attention to the eggs and perhaps lingering a bit on one of the larger ones.
That one she really wanted to see what would hatch from its shells. "Most exciting time of my life." She muttered.
