Haveli

Finn's presence next to her was most welcome, and Haveli looked to the other candidate with a sense of comraderie. They both had shared quite a few conversations as of late, and together had somewhat forged a sense of...understanding. Or at least they could understand one another's situations, in a manner of speaking. It was nice anyway to have someone to speak with and Haveli stepped a bit in case Finn needed more room. "As ready as I'll ever be. Are you?" The words were barely a whisper at best, though mostly silenced when one of the eggs actually started to move.

This was the moment everyone had been waiting for over the last sevendays. Haveli both welcomed it and feared it more than anything else.

Ara

There were fish scales on Ara's hands, forearms, hair, and face. She was still scraping at the ones on her hands and forearms after arriving at High Reaches Weyr and thanking Tijuth and Csinda for giving her a ride, though the cold of Between seemed to have frozen them to her. She was unaware of the sparkling scales around her hair- and jawline. There were also some scales shimmering on her white robes from when she pulled them roughly on in hurried preparation for this exciting event, but she had not yet noticed those. It was possible she would as the hatching went on, but equally possible she would not. Ara's powers of observation were variable.

She gathered with the other candidates and waited to enter the heated sands, bow to Anakumath, and be witness to one of the most magical happenings in the whole world. Ara did not expect to Impress at this or any other Hatching. She was not intended for that life, but she could not imagine giving up the opportunity to take part for as long as Western Weyr permitted her to do so. Her parents, doubtless, would have been horrified at her willingness to waste the Weyr's resources keeping her, since she was certain never to Impress, but they had never been to a Hatching. They could not imagine how thrilling it was to see newly-hatched dragons find their human bonds, nor how addictive it was.

She took up a position toward the back of the candidates, knowing that with her height, she would be able to see perfectly well what occurred without getting in the way. There she fixed her gaze on the eggs and settled in to enjoy the event,

Kedah She/her - High Reaches

As per usual, Kedah was planted firmly at the front of the crowd of Candidates so that she could get a good view of the proceedings. It would also allow her to move out of the way, if need be. No one had ever accused her of being a coward and it certainly wouldn't start now. "Oi, Heida," she said in a hushed whisper, signaling to get her friend's attention. They weren't too far from each other, but the was really the best spot to get a good view of things... and one of the eggs was already wobbling.

Yunara She/her - High Reaches

It was, of course, Yunara's very first time actually Standing at a Hatching. She'd watched the clutchmother hatch and even Impress... and now, unbelievably, she had the very real honor to wear the white robes of a Candidate. Carefully coifed, the young woman had found a quiet place to observe the Hatching - close enough to be within reach of the babies if need be, but not front and center. She was still marveling over amazing it had been to touch the Sunshine egg. It... it had responded really well! Maybe she hadn't made such a mistake in coming to the Weyr in the first place. Keeping Master F'dral's words in mind, the girl watched the Sands with eyes that were just a little wide.

Faustell He/him

Although Faustell had certainly been looking forward to spending dinner with his beloved, he couldn't say that he minded his current circumstances. The Hatching was underway at last, and he definitely wanted to meet these babies. He'd had his curiosity piqued during the Touching, and from his own experience the dragonets would be even more fascinating out of the shell than in it. Glancing up into the Stands, he sought out I'zrin's gaze, hoping that his lover could see him from where he stood. He was idling near some of the other Candidates, not especially seeking company, but not rejecting it either.

Candidate Nalacko - she/her
The eggs were beginning their dance. Her eyes roved over the shells as they wiggled. Who would hatch first? She also kept glancing at the candidates around her. It didn’t take long before she spotted Lojze and gave a light wave to attract his attention. “Lojze, over here.”

Liza Frank Egg looked like it was getting close to breaking free. There was a crack, but the shell didn’t split yet. “It’s so exciting waiting for the first one.” She murmured softly to him.

Vannek

If there was one thing Vannek had learned from touching Anakumath's eggs, it was that he could not deceive the creatures inside. It had been quite the shock for someone whose life was strung with twinkling little deceptions, but it was comforting too. He had never stopped missing his sister, and having a connection even deeper than the one he shared with his twin was singularly appealing. He knew that Impression might not come today, but that didn't bother him. It would come eventually. Of that he was certain.

The young man made swift work of making himself presentable and seeing to his firelizards, then he too wove through the crowd, though with far less elbow involvement than the candidate he came to stand next to.

"Which color do you think will hatch first?" he asked, eyes forward and attentive. He hadn't made any bets with Alosha, but he didn't mind a friendly wager with Hunthyex.

Lorealane She/her - High Reaches Stands Candidate

When the humming started Lorealane was in the healer’s hall finishing up some work. With the humming though, that meant going to the Sands and preparing for injuries. It was with mixed emotions that she gathered her supplies and moved out. On one hand she was excited for the candidates and baby dragons, on the other she feared the injuries that might result. Still, she would do her job and help where she could. Once on the edge of the Sands, she took up position and waited.

While the Lisa Frank Egg made its presence known, the Blue Moon Egg had begun to chip carefully away at its shell. A small wiggle here, a rotation there. Before too long, it had managed to put a tiny hole in its shell - but nothing was visible inside. Not yet.

Heida -- HR, she/her

Kedah was close enough that Heida heard her whisper, and she quickly scooted over to her friend's position at the front of the gathered Candidates. Leaning over, she bumped shoulders with her friend and grinned. "This should be a good Hatching," she whispered, noticing the egg that was already rocking back and forth. Was that a crack in it? Heida bounced on her toes -- she couldn't wait to see the dragonet within!

Lojze -- HR, he/him

Hearing Nala and spotting her wave, Lojze moved over to Stand next to her. He was happy and relieved he'd found a friend to Stand with. "It's very exciting," he nodded, voice soft and low as he watched the wobbling egg develop a crack. "What do you think it's going to be? I bet it's a gold."

Kahbrohm - He/Him

"I'm watching that one," Kahbrohm said, gesturing to Blue Moon as it wiggled. Not that the movement from Lisa Frank had gone unnoted of itself. Really, any of these eggs would make a great dragon for any candidate there - but the best would pick him and that was the one who had given him that impression.

Not that he'd spent a lot of time touching the rest of them.

Midrymear - He/Him

If Midrymear stood a little taller when his sister came to stand by him....it was painfully noticeable. If anybody considered the Amazonian woman an actual competitor on all fronts, it was him. Even with the age and build difference, he'd been pinned more times by Miomellai than any of their older brothers.

"It's time. Got a color in mind?"

Juhvek - He/Him

Oranie and Elibrie had their spirits about them - that was good. He offered a smile to do the two as they came to stand by him. "Any in particular you were lookin' forward to meeting?" Before the Touching, that was a trickier question. But people had a way of finding favorites after that.

He'd never known the feeling, honestly.

Finnisa - HR - She/Her
It felt good to have someone at her side who knew what she'd been through, and had been through it too, and felt the same as her. Haveli and Finn had done a lot of talking in recent weeks—they had a lot in common, unfortunately, though it might not seem the case at a glance. "Not at all. But also very much ready, yes." She eyed the eggs as they shifted, and smiled a bit wider as Lisa Frank slid over. "That one was the first one I touched, you know. The best of them all, of course." There was nothing but gentle amusement in her voice, and deep fondness. Lisa Frank had been a bit pushy, but she'd actually liked the egg's attitude. "Any you're really hoping for?"

Zelaya - HR - She/Her/They-Them
Ah... there was someone she knew. Not that she didn't at least in passing know all her peers, but Zelaya knew Lojze a bit more than some. And Nala too, who'd just called Lojze over. It took a moment's pause to decide to move to join them—it was nice to share the experience with friends, but what mattered was focusing on the eggs, not being social just now. But candidates were still joining the crowd, and none of the eggs were fully hatched yet... A negligible risk then. And so she slipped through the gathering crowd to join them a soft smile and mild wave to greet them as she resumed her watchful review of the eggs just in time to see Lisa Frank and Blue Moon being to crack and stir. "It won't be long now. Are you ready?" She asked them both, or perhaps herself, or maybe the eggs even.

Candidate Nalacko - she/her
Nala was happy to have someone by her side so she wouldn’t stand alone. She eyed him warily when he mentioned a gold. The teen eyed the eggs speculatively. “My dad would probably say Sunshine is the gold. Maybe Orange Slice.” She’d be ok without a gold egg this time around, but she knew a lot of people looked forward to seeing one.

She smiled as Zelaya joined them, making their duo a neat little trio. “I hope Black Cat Egg hatchings soon. It’s a sweet heart.” There were a number she was looking forward to meeting.

Haveli

"No." Haveli's response to Finn's question was short and sweet and entirely true. One egg she'd accidentally walked away from before answering its questions, one had been peppy, and the third was just irritated. They all sort of blended together for Haveli and she knew better than to try and force her expectations onto eggs. She'd seen too many candidates in tears over things like that. "I'd just be happy if one even bothered to look my way without the intent of maiming me."

She hadn't been hurt at the last hatching, but that was also not at High Reaches. Maybe the sands here just called out for her blood more? It was a silly thought and one quickly dismissed for the knowledge it would lead to problems. "Maybe your luck will change this Turn, and that egg will come to you." Haveli could have some hope for her friend, right?

Lelte, She/Her. HR
It was time. Lelte was over the moon. She was always excited when Hatchings occurred. But she was more excited for this one than most. Sure, it meant that she had been Standing and waiting for years, but it was the first clutch from a queen that was born from the first she stood. It was a beautiful thing.

She threw her robes on, made sure they were straight and proper, and that her sandals were on her feet well, before she made her way with the rest of the Candidates to the Sands. She listened to the usual speech, made her bows to the clutch parents, and sought a place on the Sands. Not too far from the eggs, but not near the center. She did not want to be too close in case of drama, but she wouldn’t stay on the fringes if by some miracle Hers were to hatch today. She didn’t want to make them have to search too hard or wait too long...

Velara, She/Her, Western
Shards, but High Reaches was cold. Even after the cold of Between, it still was a shock. It was nothing like Western, but she wasn’t one to limit herself, if she was to find Hers, they could be anywhere, and even if that meant at least five turns in the bitter winters of High Reaches, it wasn’t anything she couldn’t handle.

As with everyone else, she bowed to the queen and her chosen mate, and settled in a spot, ready and eager to meet all the new dragonets.

Lojze -- HR, he/him

Just as Lojze noticed the Blue Moon egg begin to move about and crack a bit too, Zelaya joined him and Nala. He gave her a warm smile. "I was born ready," he whispered to her, then grinned at Nala. "I bet Sunshine is a bronze." He didn't want to talk too much lest he get in trouble with F'dral, so he fell silent and watched the eggs intently for any further sign of hatching.

Perhaps sensing the movement of other eggs around it, Happy Ghost Egg rolled to one side, almost lazily before settling again.
