He doubted he would ever feel calm while courting death, but as always, Demodeth's surety lessened R'in's pre-flight nerves considerably. When it was their time, the bronze launched into the air and took his place in their formation, both rider's and dragon's eyes peeled for errant Thread.
It was a signal from a wingrider above that caught R'in's attention first, however, and he flung a bag of firestone upward with an easy strength far greater than he displayed a year ago. As the other rider caught it, Demodeth's satisfaction was clear. A job well done.

They continued to peer, eagle-eyed, as Thread was burned away at the higher altitudes, but there were always strands that made it through, and one of them was floating their way.
Demodeth turned, took aim, and...
The wind buffeted his wings, throwing him off balance just before he let out a gout of flame. He held it back, determined not to hit his fellow weyrlings, the Thread he was aiming for almost caressing his neck as it made contact.

Demodeth didn't bellow as the Thread began its work, though R'in could feel the dragon's shock and pain as they disappeared Between. They returned a moment later, primed and wary, and it wasn't a minute later before another clump flew in their direction. They disappeared yet again, avoiding injury this second time.

B'den and Riojath were starting to get the hang of this. Finally putting into reality everything they had been practicing. How do you feel? Everything lining up? Need more firestone? Perhaps she was being too attentive. Riojath hummed at her rider, I feel fine. All our practice is paying off. No, I'm full for right now.
They popped between to avoid a tangle only to find coming out that wind had blown more in. B'den had a split second to tighten her grip before Riojath got creative with the way a dragon can move through the sky. Oh....Don't loose your cookies on me. It wouldn't look good in front of the younger ones.

It was a lot to take in. Like learning to juggle. Getting the feel for everything in their right place and going as expected. B'den glanced up. It must be so much more intense the higher up one got. What was it like in those upper wings? Which wing would they join?

Being so low in the flight pattern meant the remains from above drifted down upon them. B'den brushed the dust from her jacket absentmindedly. They hadn't mentioned this had they? Riojath, about to comment, let out a tiny squeal after she flew threw a thicker patch of dust. A quick hop between rid her of the still live particles. 1/5 There's a patch of Thread that has your name on it. You dive towards it, and aim to flame it down. Unfortunately, your dragon and you weren't paying any mind to the direction the wind was blowing! If white, green, or blue, you are successfully able to weave out of the way. +2 General Agility
Getting it! Alenciath informed Fahn as she dove after a clump of thread, already flaming at the ready to get it. Fahn was so into it that she didn't notice the changing winds - but fortunately Alenciath rolled out of the way (much to the testing of Fahn's straps), leaving it to blow past them.

Ow! Hey! Not only had Alenciath missed that last clump, but one had gotten her wing, much to her (brief) annoyance. Fahn pushed her Between to clear it off, but it was going to leave a mark at least for a little while.

It was Fahn who let out the surprised yelp as the tangle caught her shoulder - though it didn't burn through her jacket, leaving only some faint marking on her neck once they'd hopped back from Between.
Baby, we need to stop catching those with our face. Fahn laughed, but they had been taking a few too many hits - perhaps a visit back to the healers would be in order to make sure everything was alright.
It's fine, we're fine! Alenciath disagreed - but Fahn was master in this case, so back they went.

Upon returning to the weyrling wing, the pair found themselves delivering firestone very quickly. Ke'res had benefitted from the brief pause during Rossoth's recovery. Her aim was impeccable, or so the brown assured her. Something glowed warm within the young lady. Pride, perhaps?

The warm glow didn't last long. As Rossoth darted towards some Thread, he didn't adjust for the wind, and missed his target. Unfortunately, it caught his wingtips, causing a sudden cry of pain as he darted Between. Ke'res clung to a safe visualisation, glad his pain passed quickly.

Their firestone delivery successful, they now had to resettle back into their position amongst their fellow Weyrlings - Only a little while longer! Alenciath informed her with hushed excitement. Yes, soon they'd be up there full time, wouldn't they?
Oh! Maybe we'll be in a wing with Demodeth! Would you like that, Demodeth? Alenciath sent the sentiment along to the bronze and Fahn chided her for distracting him. Maybe.

They fell back after offering apologies, and fate quickly balanced once more when they caught sight of another pair just before they were struck. Demodeth cried out mentally, and R'in smiled to himself at the relief his dragon felt at helping a weyrmate. When Alenciath spoke, the bronze gave her his full attention, only seeming to recall that their lives were in constant danger up here when he was halfway through his reply.
