Skept, that just affirms my belief that British people take up a lot of air to say a whole lot of nothing.
On the other hand, ol' Monty may have a point somewhere in there, that the meaning, like aforementioned, is to ponder the meaning itself. A rather paradoxical situation, but it's a self-fulfilling profecy. Does this mean that should we stop looking for the meaning of life, life would lose its meaning?
Imagine how the world would be if everyone on the planet resigned themselves to their own existence, and had no questions, ambitions, or imaginations about the realm beyond their world. You live, you work, you die; no soul searching necessary. It'd be a very peaceful world, in my opinion. No one bothering to start fights or wars, everyone minding their own business.
Something to think about.

The meaning of life is to die.
For what would life be without death? It would be meaningless, that's what.

Malekhi ah yes, i see. very creative. xd
well, in my opinion, the meaning if life is simpley to reproduce. See, humans in general are very self obsorbed beings (not meaning to be offensive) and when we say "whats the meaning of life" we automatically take it as "what is the meaning of 'our' life". This, i think, is where many people tend to go wrong with this analysis. we should be looking at all life on this planet. when we do this, we realise that the one single thing that each of us have in common... is reproduction (dispite the means). make sense?
well, thats my oppinion anyways, feel free to scrutinise.. biggrin Then the meaning of life is to produce more life? That's a really circular reason. Life just keeps making more life and that's the point. It's possible, of course, that our most important purpose in life is to reproduce but that doesn't imply some sort of meaning.dboyzero Rather than seeking out a purpose for yourself, I find it much more fulfilling to decide on one on your own. We define our purpose, not the other way around. I think I agree most with this. Who knows what our purpose is? Maybe we have one and maybe we don't. Maybe there is a God and he made us and he has some idea for our purpose but I certainly haven't been told what it is. Maybe there isn't a God and we are just here and came about from some "natural" process. But regardless,we can always find some purpose that applies to life here and now and not some future possibility.

Life, the thing that bugs everyone. Why are we here? Who made us? What is our goal in Life? Soo many questions, so little time.
For me, Life is just another stepping stone. A thing to occupy my time until I find my path in it and wander down that well worn area. I don't plan anything anymore. Life's greatest trick is to change at the blink of an eye, so why bother planning all these events when in a second it can change?

The meaning of life is to live, to do something make the most of what you know about. If there is or isn't a life beyond the one we know of does not matter because it is now that counts. Live for today Live for the Moment

I think the meaning of life is to find love. I mean, think about it, what is thething that most every book and movie is centered around or has some of it in it? Love. When you go to school, yeah, you learn so that you can get a job and 'move up in the world' but what are we doing most of the time taht we're in high school.... and some of middle school? We're looking for a boyfriend or a girlfriend. What is the one thing that a person sees when they think about their future? A family, they see themselves smiling and sitting in a room with thier spouse sitting in another chair, watching thier children playing some little game with their toys. Then again, maybe it's happiness that we're all looking for.....

Death Love Happiness Knowledge
I agree all those are great reasons but possibly there is more than one meaning...to be yourself..... Love~Not everyone agrees with Love because some people never find love... Death~Some people do not agree daeth is a reasone of life, what is the point of life if it has to end. Some people cannot await their death, suicides, murder,so on Happiness~Many people find happiness in their lives and some dont... Knowledge~Many people agree with intellect by taking their studies further into colledge,to acheive their scholorship, succede in what you want to be in life. Some people give up on knowledge(or school) it would take them nowhere... so there may be many reasons of life.....

ah well yes..."the meaning of life"...well..i believe the meaning of life is that everything and anything happens for a reason..i believe that all things put on this earth are meant to be here...there is a bigger source among us all...whom we do not know of...but our beliefs and relgion state that its god or jesus or some kind of person or animal as well...truth is we really dont know...we all believe in what we believe..for example there are stories or myths...all these are like obstacles in the way of the real truth...maybe they are in the way to confuse us or put us off track..or maybe not...maybe it is a test...who knows...life can be compared to alot of things such as a game or a box of chocolates..as soon as the chocolates are finished there are no more explaining death in a way...why is there death?...why cant we just over populate and expand the earth instead of the other way around...we die because it makes sense so the earth wont over populate so the animal kingdom wont over populate...we have a food chain for a reason...so things get eaten and die out..for new things to be born in...there is death...there is knowledge...yes there is love...but also evil...and there is life as well...to me life can be logical at times or even most of the times....life is logic...the rest are just details...obstacles to ruin the logic up...this may not make any sense...but just think about it...and it will...the 3 things that break the logic...and make things harder for all of us on earth...are...money...power....and love...love being the least...but...money and power are the reason why...this world is so messed up...although its not for some...but this is why we fight...this is why we argue...this is why we complain about wanting this and wanting that...the truth is...a human being will never stop wanting something...our thirst for wanting everything we wish to have would never be quenched even if you had what you wished...we would want more on top of that...things in life are all catogorized...like i said we have money...power...love...lust...and more...then out of those catagories it gets simplified into smaller details and so fourth..like a friend of mine once said....our end of the world will be caused because of us...not because of an astroid or something from space or something from nature but because we will kill ourselves off...i say this....because think about it...we have nuclear warheads...we want to get rid of them...but we cant...so we bury them into the earth...that doesnt stop us from getting them and exploding half the earth apart....if we were crazy we could do it...we can still do things like that...other countries also have nuclear bombs...if we would start a mad angry war...we could all be in danger...just like a family could be in danger by owning a gun...a child could get angry...think about that gun in the closet...get it and shoot it...same concept...because of the anger among ppl or the country itself..if they wanted or if we wanted we could just get a nuclear bomb and without thinking of the trillions and more on this earth..we set them off...it could make sense..or maybe i am wrong...well...i could go on and on...in conclusion...to me..everything happens for a reason...eveything has its logical reason of why its there..to me life is logic and the rest that i've been saying are details in the middle of the logic...you have a beginning...and huge body of details and statistics..and then you have an ending finally...i have either made a fool of myself...or have made myself worthwhile with this post...excuse me on how long i have made it..lol..i'm sorry i had alot to say...and have more to say as well....well...thank you...and farewell...~Mr.Hollywood25~

It, like everything else, depends entirely on your point of view. A Buddhist would believe the purpose would be to achieve Nirvana. An outsider to the human race would believe that it's to survive and to reproduce, because that's what's coded in our genes. A lover would say it's to love, because love is stronger than any emotion they've ever felt. To each of these people, each of these ideas is true. It's, by its very nature, each of these lives' meanings, from the point of view of those that live them. Quote: Rather than seeking out a purpose for yourself, I find it much more fulfilling to decide on one on your own. We define our purpose, not the other way around. This is either very true, very wise, or both.
