One of my friends is a vegetarian and to be honest I didn't think she'd stick to it, but she said that its actually really easy. Being a vegetarian doesn't mean that all you eat is veggies and fruits. They have subsitutes for every kind of meat and it taste so close to the real thing. (not a big fan of the turkey though). I'm not a vegetarian, but i have no problem with it. Do you what you think is right for you. ♥

Areashine The thing is though, there are certain nutrients in animal products that we need to survive. Not only protein, but certain kinds of fats. If you cut that out of your diet, it could be very harmful. I did try to go vegan, but I couldn't do it, it made me too weak to stand. Humans are omnivors, predators and gathers by nature. Don't go against your nature. Did you do any research into how to eat properly as a vegeratian? It is possible to get what you need, but difficult unless you know what you are doing.

I admit that I really didn't do it properly at all, if I would have researched a bit more, that might not have happened, but I'm also slightly anemic, so that didn't help matters much anyway.

dboyzero One could make the argument, however, that if humans were not actively hunting or raising livestock or degrading the environment, that nature would balance itself out, as it always does. We really don't need to worry about nature getting out of hand, because even if we're not there to keep populations down, nature has been doing it herself for much longer than we've been around. Vegetarians and vegans aren't doing it because they hate animals, they just are going about saving animals in the wrong way. Also, not all of them don't eat meat because of animal sympathy; in terms of energy, it's much more efficient to be eating plants than it is to be eating meat. We evolved to be able to eat both so that we wold have a better chance of survival in the case that one or the other becomes scarce. i dont know if it would even out actually. look at the thing with rabbits and foxes... take one away and the other takes over! that is what could happen here. we are the foxes in this case, and if we demolish out meat eating industry than the cows and such will take over, not that that really matters as much as it does with rabbits, cos cows and pigs and lams aren't really a threat or a pest, but you get my drift... but if everyone were to cut meat out ouf thier diets completely, the truth is that there are many nutients that we would be missing out on. iron for starters is a major one as it is the prime producer of red blood cells in every living human being. now while it is true that iron can be found in other sources such as dark green leafy vegies, it is alot harder to get the reocmmended daily intake, especially for people like me, who have O- blood type, or ppl like my sister who lose a lot of blood during ovulation. you body also needs nutrients that are only found in meat. my cousin is a vegan and she is fading away to a shadow. she has been like it for years now, and she always seems fatigued and stuff. quite scarey. that and meat just tastes too good to give up blaugh

Well, using the fox and rabbit analogy, it's true that if you take away the foxes, the rabbits would multiply quickly. Take the rabbits away, and the foxes will be forced to fall back on alternative food sources, and will decrease in population. I believe the balancing phenomena you are refering to is the stabilization that occurs when either one or the other fluctuates in population, causing the other to react in a similar manner. In any case, that's beside the point, I just wanted to question your analogy. confused
No nutrient is UNIQUE to meat, just ones that are more plentiful and easier to access. Smart vegans are able to round out their diet to compensate for any lost nutrients, it just takes more effort as most of the alternatives aren't as common as meat products, ie hummus, different soy products, and vitamin supplements.

I have a bone to pick with the bit on that site that says (in a nutshell) that eating meat is bad for you. Well, let's look at that, shall we? Now, the human body is made up of proteins, right? Made up of amino acids. Now, meat is the best way to get these amino acids to rebuild your body, because meats contain ALL of the amino acids you need to survive. So, could somebody please explain to me how meat is bad?

I am a veggie but not for animal rights. I know that usually if I don't eat meat it will be wasted or someone else will. I really just don't enjoy eating mammals.

Well, too much of anything is bad for you, and too much red meat (pork, beef) is very bad for your heart due to the cholesterol and increase of bllod pressure.

I don't eat a lot of vegetables, so I don't think I'd be able to be a vegan. But I do adore animals. I'm a huge animal lover. And I refuse to eat meat like rabbit, squirrel, turtle, alligator, etc. I don't eat fish either. o.O But would you consider fish meat? I suppose.... But anyways, yeah. Though I love animals, I wouldn't be able to give up meat.
I'm in Ag, so I was forced (>>) to watch all the slaughter videos ( gonk ) and really they shock the animals first and so they don't feel anything. I don't think they see anything either.
v.v; But still, it was SO sad to watch those videos. I usually made myself go to sleep. D: And my teacher never gave me any lip. (( ;3 I go off on him. We're close, since hes our FFA leader and was my poultry leader person. >< ))

I've been a vegetarian for about a year and I've been a vegan for a few months time. It's incredibly easy so I have no reason to consume meat any longer...I don't believe in eating meat substitutes except tofu dogs...I just love them. If it were a matter of survival and all of the veggies and fruits were contaminated and there were no proper lavatory facilities, I would eat meat.
Vegans are the greatest at risk from nutrient lost and of course, supplements are always helpful.
I would feel greatly irritated if my genitalia were to be shocked and I thrown into a tub of scalding water, conscious to some level. neutral The industry's methods are geared towards their profit and the satisfaction of our high demands which, I suppose upsets many of the animal right activists.

Hmm... now, I am not convinced about becoming a vegitarian after reading the website. The main reasons: 1. They say that, among other things, eating meat destroys forests and releases methane (from livestock), as well as being cruel to animals, but where is the proof of these things? Sure, we hear about cruelty to animals quite often, but that stuff is being helped somewhat. 2. Meat is just too tasty to give up. 3. I still do not see why being vegan/vegitarian is healthy. Granted, there are fats and harmful substances in meats, but there is also much protien and healthy stuff in meat that you may not get elsewhere. But hey, my mom's a semi-vegitarian (she doesn't eat any red meat) and she's the healthiest 50-year-old I've seen.

They say that, among other things, eating meat destroys forests and releases methane (from livestock), as well as being cruel to animals, but where is the proof of these things? Sure, we hear about cruelty to animals quite often, but that stuff is being helped somewhat. If you want proof, visit a slaughterhouse one of these days. I can guarantee you right now that you won't like what you see. Ever wonder what happens to all the waste generate by all these animals? Hosed down, right into storm drains or open fields and into groundwater. Yes, all of these issues are being helped, but only because people are moved to do so. Using other people as an excuse tfor yourself is not only lazy, but irresponsible and inconsiderate as well. LemurMaster 2. Meat is just too tasty to give up. Nothing is too anything to give up, save for things required for survival. Try it sometime. Give up all meat for a week, or even just a couple of days. Will is suck? Probably. Will you die? Not even close. LemurMaster 3. You do realize you just contradicted yourself, right? Yes, moderation is definitely the key to remaining healthy and all things in general.
