The little Pink and Purple Zig Zag Green hadn't expected to be driven off by her brother--and her poor tail now had a bit of a chomp! With grey eyes, she took refuge behind the Pansexual Egg, trembling a bit from surprise.

What on Pern had she done?

Was she a bad green?

She creeled softly, even as Aubergine Bronze followed. I didn't mean to offend. The little green creeled, wilting a bit from shame and distress. She hadn't meant... She wanted to apologize but what if that upset him further? Oh, what was a poor green to do?

So she leaned against her bronze brother and egged clutchmate, and softly keened. Life was beautiful...but life was also awfully hard. She was already behind, and everyone was leaving, without nary a thought for her.

Texiar

The acknowledgments she had gotten from the green and brown for helping find their sibling had Tex's heart full. It would still be disappointing to not find her match this day, to be left on the sands but there were other chances and this made the day so much better.

"I can act a bit...impulsive a few times. Had to also help my father with runners giving birth." She looked down at herself and chuckled. "At least it's not as messy as that." When Rosie said she should have helped Tex shook her head and smiled at the woman. "If too many had gone over there it might have made it dangerous, you shouldn't beat yourself up too much for not helping." Her attention moved back to looking at the dragonets as their numbers began to dwindle, and there was still one egg left unhatched.

The sight of a little green running to hide behind the unhatched egg had Tex pause some as she inclined her head in that direction. "Poor girl. I think one of the blues that impressed chased her away...I hope she is okay, she seems so...upset."

Was that--? No, hold on, maybe--
Hm. This was a little harder than he'd thought. The White Tiger Blue huffs, slipping through the rows of Candidates to the back lines--this felt more right, but he still hadn't quite seen who he was looking for. Where had they gone? He'd been so sure of himself, but he supposed they'd had plenty of time to mill about while he'd been escorting his brothers to their respective riders.

One thought stood out to him from the sea of minds before him, though, enough for the Blue to latch on to. He peeped--it was an undignified noise, sure, but the concern hadn't yet gripped him tight enough to merit an outright keen. That was who he was looking for, somewhere out there!

Oranie and white Sondhroth

The sound that escaped from the small white before he collapsed onto the sands made Oranie's heart freeze in her chest, and she went down on her knees with a cry of her own. I-- I'm more worried about making you hurt!

"Oh, no, no, you could never--" She started to say, but held her tongue as the baby peered up at her with an expression that threatened to break her heart. Oranie, I-- meant it. What I said? I want to-- to give you the world, to protect you and help you heal. You're wonderful and I'm so sorry I made you wait this long. If there's anything I can do for you to make up for it, I... want to do it. Anything at all!

Oranie could only sit and listen, unaware that her hands had crept forward to gently cradle his head, staring into his eyes that seemed to whirl with every color in the world.

I want to be Yours. Your Sondhroth. He buried his face into her lap, and the love that poured from him almost threatened to sweep her, metaphorically, right off her feet. "Oh, Sondhroth.." She whispered, and the tears finally falling to land on his soft hide as she slowly bent down to press a kiss to his brow. He shifted, willingly crawling into her lap so she could hold him as close as she could, her arms wrapped around him. They stayed like that for a few moments, reveling in the love they both felt for one another.

Sondhroth would protect her, no matter what the world threw at them... and she would protect him too. Though the little white would never dream of asking for anything, Oranie could feel how hungry he was. That was all the reason she needed to pull herself together, looking up with red-rimmed eyes before she focused on Lusialu with an apologetic, wavery smile. "I'm sorry," She apologized, making the proper introductions. "This is Sondhroth."

The white dragonet lifted his head at one, staring at Lusialu with bright blue eyes. Lusialu, thank you for looking after my Oranie. He sent a tentative wave of apology her way. He wished he could do more for her, as well...

Oranie carefully got to her feet, gathering up Sondhroth in her arms. "We'll see you later," She said, and there was no room for discussion in her voice. "I promise." Her progress was a little slow, for as tiny as he was, Sondhroth was still heavy! Still, she knew he was tired and wouldn't dream of making him walk all that way. She almost didn't even notice her fellow Weyrlings as she carefully took a seat and begin cutting up pieces of meat to feed the young dragon.

Hello! He greeted to his siblings in turn, wanting to croon--but instead gratefully chewing the first mouthful of meat he was offered.

L'ius and Blue Tierth

Up on the heights Tierth had been watching as two candidates and a brown and green dragonet began to dig in the sands. Oh! Look L'ius mine! Zelaya is one of the ones digging in the sand! I wonder if Mictecath made a game for them! How fun it would have been to dig in the sand to find one of my own siblings!

L'ius had to chuckle at Tierth's words though his eyes were on Zelaya as he watched them dig and unearth an egg that he was sure no one but Mictecath and Iweth had known had been there. I don't know if she thought to make it a game Tierth, but it seems the little one was found. He couldn't help but smile, watching as Zelaya stood up, finding that they were quite attractive covered in the sand.

As that thought came and went, a small flush forming on L'ius cheeks, he was glad that Tierth was so enraptured by what was happening down on the sands. He was still trying to figure out the new feelings towards his friend and he didn't need Tierth accidently letting anything out. But that was a concern for another time as his focus should be on the candidates and the hatching grounds as the dragonets went through to find theirs. A little white had hatched from the hidden egg, so that made two whites for this clutch. There had been two in Mictecath's clutch hadn't there?

L'iusMine! They've impressed! Tierth had basically shouted the words through their link, almost causing L'ius to fall backwards were he sat, which would have been a bit embarrassing. Zelaya? He knew the answer before he even asked as his eyes searched the sands for them once again and found where she was with the little white she had saved. Happiness welled up within him and he bit back the whoop of joy he wanted to exclaim, but that didn't stop Tierth from letting out a happy hwenk.

When the little white reached out to him the blue was just absolutely tickled and he spoke to both of the newly bonded pair. I knew you would find yours in this clutch Zelaya! Such a great and perfect match for you! Oh, L'ius is so happy! We both cannot wait to see you at the feast!

ShinosBee
Tierth is so happy! So is L'ius! Yes!

Aubergine Bronze settled in next to Pink and Purple Zig Zag Green - and by extension Pansexual Flag Egg - as to be all of the support she could possibly ask for, pressing his nose against her cheek.

If what you did was offense, then every sibling of ours who has taken consideration of a candidate who will someday belong to somebody else is causing great offense now, he pointed out. And there is at least one person here who is waiting especially for you, my dear. They may not know it, of course, but that is why they're here. For you. And someone for him as well, of course, but they would wait.

Then, as if hinting at it, he gently placed his paw on Pansexual Flag Egg. Not a nudge, but...he'd give one if it came to it.

Relku and blue Zamazivanjeth

There was something very satisfying about having the sweet little green pressed up against his leg, even though the more time passed, the more certain he became that it really was only a visit. It was a nice, peaceful little moment to have, regardless, and he was glad she'd come by, though he couldn't rightly say why, out of all the myriad options, he was the one she'd decided to sit with. Though he was aware there was still quite a bit going on elsewhere, it didn't seem right to have his attention on anyone other than his green visitor.

So he was more than a little surprised when when a bright blue stomped up and chomped down on her tail, earning a "Hey!" from Relku, who couldn't help but feel protective of his little green friend. But that was it, the poor thing was off like a shot, and he couldn't blame her. Arms still crossed, he looked down at the disturber-of-the-peace even as the blue looked him up and down.

Sorry you had to witness that, handsome. But I guess all's well that ends well, at least for you and me. The myriad feelings that went on to wrap him up were so strong he nearly balked at just how many there were, but within half a moment, he'd softened, relaxing both physically and mentally. Now tell me, RelkuMine -- do you like me? Do you really like me? Please, don't keep your Zamazivanjeth shut out too?

Of course I don't like you, dumbass, he replied with a snort, even as he embraced the blue - his blue - and ruffled a hand between his headknobs. I love you.

Now come on, that's the sappiest thing you're going to get out of me, so let's go. There were entirely too many people around for anything more than this...hug sort of thing they had going on.

Nisadee

She was supposed to be better than this. She was supposed to be smarter than this. She was supposed to know better than this. But she'd broken her own rules, and now she was paying the price. Nisadee gave a slight flinch when the dark blue nudged her hand, knowing full well what was coming. She heard his words only distantly, as she quickly slammed up the walls she'd been foolish enough to let down.

Here and now was not the place to feel even a single one of the ugly, sad, terrible things that wanted to rise up, and so she carefully cut herself off from them. It was easy enough, when she'd been doing it all her life. Outwardly, everything was almost exactly as it had been - she was just Nisadee, cold and distant as ever. Perhaps just a little more so than she had been a few minutes ago, now that she'd relearned the consequences of being anything else.

In order to better maintain that everything-is-fine veneer, she focused her attention on the egg that had yet to hatch. "Another white, do you think, or just someone being stubborn?"

Whren

He gave a small nod to the Green vine egg as she approached and wished her well as she moved onwards. There had been a lot of impression including the little white and a surprise one that had been dug out from under the sands. All the eggs but ahh no, one egg was remaining. If no more was buried underneath the sands.

The lone egg though had company in their brother and sister. He wondered if the bronze would search for his chosen soon or wait till his sibling hatched. Which one was going to have the stronger will.

He looked away, checking the other hatchlings... the little green seemed tired out but the blue was looking for his.

Nikrys and Iscarioth

In the years to come, Nikrys would look back at this moment and feel a bit foolish. She'd had eyes for nearly every other dragon on the sands, hardly giving the little blue that had emerged from his purple and grey egg more than a cursory glance until he was at her feet. Even then, she simply bowed her head, thinking he was passing her on the way to meet someone who wasn't just visiting.

    My Nikrys.

The voice in her mind sounded just as confident as it had when he'd addressed his siblings, but she knew there was a world of difference in the emotions behind it. She could feel them. Inside. She was inside this dragon's head.

Your Iscarioth apologizes for the wait. I am here now... if you would have me.

She brought a hand to her chest, feeling the wild beating of her heart through her palm.

Please, try not to throw up.

Nikrys knelt, grace still somewhere near the forefront of her mind, and brushed the fingers of her free hand across his perfect little face, smiling softly at the rainbows in his eyes. Of course I'll have you. The awkwardness she'd felt when trying to think at featureless eggshells or dragons who weren't hers was gone. She barely had to form a sentence before he responded, and for the first time in her life, she felt as though someone understood. Iscarioth understood everything. Would you allow me to carry you? Just this once? She had always avoided strenuous chores, her father's hammer, anything that might make her feel unwieldy, but she was more than willing to carry her dragon as long as he would let her. As she lifted him from the sands, the blue rested his head on her shoulder and curled his tail tightly around her middle, his happiness outweighing thoughts of the future, at least for now.

You know I wasn't actually going to throw up, right? 'I'm gonna ******** barf,' is just a saying.

An unnecessary one in the future, perhaps?

She laughed once, fondly rubbing her thumb over one of the paler bits of his wing. Perhaps.

Oh… wait a second. That mind. That mind! Worried Bear Green knew the wrong that she had done… and the wrongs that scarred him. How could she be so foolish? Of all the candidates who carried hurts in their hearts and minds, of all the men and women who needed her touch, who needed her wings to save them…

This was the one.

And in turn, we’ll accomplish great things together, won’t we, my Whren? She threaded her way back through the candidates, wounding around the man she had inspected before. It looked as though Worried Bear Green curled her body around him, raising overlong wings so the world, for a moment, was just the two of them, rainbows lighting their way.

Your Jiyunath searched and searched until she was certain… it could only be you…

W'en and Jiyunath impression post

He glanced up at the stands seeking out a familiar face in the crowd and gave a slightly smile as he caught Jemi in the stands. She was always there and a voice brushed into his mind, firmer then the emotion threads and colors he associated with his faire and certainly not his own wavering thoughts and emotions.

And in turn, we’ll accomplish great things together, won’t we, my Whren?

He shifted, surprise as weight pressed into him and it didn't take much to cover him, wings casting shadows and privacy and he was covered in the shelter of her. Rainbows swirled in her eyes and it felt like everything long since pressed away overfilled, bubbled up and broke, overflowing.

Your Jiyunath searched and searched until she was certain… it could only be you…

He felt blood tingle his ears and neck and checks, ugly flushed and tears trickling down as he buried himself in her neck. Impression didn't erase the history, memories always would be there but it sooth them, pressing them away and help ease the feeling of self doubt at his own worth because none of it was important as the hatchling that had chosen him.

'Wen? I am here and it doesn't change those past fights..'
She questioned, concern, pressing her self deep against her rider. 'You will have me?'

"Wha... of course, "he stuttered out, pulling back to scrub at his eyes and nose, frantic and gently grasp her, pulling her close, eyes looking into those beautiful pools of rainbows. "They weren't your fights to have... Jiyunath, your here and it.. it is enough."

It was more then enough. She was perfect and together they would do things he couldn't do alone. He chuckled, deep and tired. "Just, give me a moment to get myself together and we'll go get you something to eat." He scrubbed his face more, feeling Jiyunath shift, hiding him between her body and wings.

He could feel her, tangled in him, mind and heart and more after a few more sniffs, managed to get himself up off the sands and heading towards the feeding station. Got to get her fed.

Ready?

"Yes. Lets get you fed and cared for." He said, fingers resting on her head not wanting to loose contact... least not yet.

The little egg hadn't moved, but two of its clutchmates were near. Maybe they would help it out if needed? Granted, the little green who was quivering behind it did have him frown. Poor thing. Chased off by a blue. Were blue dragons particularly aggressive? He certainly hadn't heard any stories about that trait, but then, he'd never lived in a Weyr. What did he know, anyway? Clearly, not much.

"I'm sure the egg'll be all right," he assured his sister. Eggs were supposed to hatch, after all and he didn't see why this one wouldn't. All in its own good time, surely.

As for his thoughts on the the blue making his way up the tiers, well... He just hoped there wasn't any rampaging in the stands. "I wish him well," he spoke softly, relieved that the blue had better things to focus on. He didn't wish him ill, but he had attacked his sister, and had even pounced on him. Protective desire warred with rationality but at the end of the day, the little being had found His and that was what was important. Every dragon needed a rider, after all. Maybe now, they would be okay.

Dea and #Teddy#

Razanel
One moment he'd been having a nice time with a blue dragon, and the next, the fellow was gone. Razanel liked to think himself as a confident and good humored young man, but the fact that the rascal of a blue hadn't been here to Impress was still a bit disappointing. To know he'd had such a good rapport and even that wasn't enough to tempt the little ones was a bit of a let down--but he'd be happy for him all the same. Maybe the blue wasn't his destiny, but he'd make someone else happy.

"Friendliest dragonet I've ever met," he confided with a small, wistful sigh. He kept his eye on the blue, watching him move up into the stands, before turning away. He'd tuck his disappointment away--there were still dragonets on the Sands, after all. Maybe he was looking at the wrong one. Thankfully, Nisadee pointed out the egg that had yet to hatch. "I'd peg it as a white, yeah. Maybe too thick a shell, might need some help." It could be any color, but it was difficult not to make an assumption. "Hope it's okay though."

Hatchings could be trying affairs, after all.

Lusialu
One moment she'd been standing with Oranie, and the next, she had front row seats to watching the older girl Impress. She didn't know when it happened but a change occurred. Instead of holding her arm, she was down cradling a white, tears rolling down her face and....

And the girl took a few steps back, bridging the distance between them. It wasn't the first time she'd stood around when Impression had been made. On the one hand, she was genuinely, truly, happy to watch Oranie meet her lifemate and bonded. Elibrie would certainly be ecstatic, wouldn't she? And yet... too soon, the knowledge that her new routine with Oranie in the Barracks was now coming to an end. One more friend, whose life was ready to move on without her. One more friend who had finally found the one... Faranth, it was hard not to be devastated.

But she would not think ill, not when there were baby dragonets still near.

Sondhroth was the little white's name, and he even took time to speak to her. But whatever she might have wished to say hardly seemed to matter. "He's beautiful," she spoke as Oranie carefully picked up the little white, watching her even as envy began to coil its way once more around her spirit. "I'll see you later, yes, of course!" It was a promise--she wouldn't skip out on the feast, or celebrating, no matter her jealousy. She had family to catch up with, at minimum, and she had to keep face.

Oranie and she had promised to see one another at the feast, and she would make good on that too.

Oh, but all she could hope was that maybe, just maybe, one of the last few dragonets on the sands would be Hers. Please, please, please. She thought, maybe, a little too desperately. Why was she always looked over? Even Kahbrohm had walked off with a dragon today. He'd been as envious as she... Happy thoughts, happy thoughts. There was still hope, wasn't there?

Maybe one of the dragons (aside from the remaining bronze) would take notice. But oh, there were only so many left, and Lusialu was well aware she, and the remaining Candidates, were quickly running out of time. Hope was beginning to wane.

Quote:
Well, she's open for interaction if anyone wants a late-sands buddy.

Melka
The little blue who had been causing up a fuss (not really), just as quickly took off like a shot and chased off a poor, little green. "I don't think it had been nothin', but it sure looks like something now!" She did frown a bit, surprised by the sudden behavior. The blue had been a gem all morning but apparently, whatever was going on with the little green had crossed a line. "Well, that one's off the list. Who's left? Not too many now."

It was a bit difficult to see around the Candidates, especially with more and more of the dragonets pairing up. Still, her eyes did linger covetously on that last egg. Until it hatched and Impressed, there was still a chance it could be hers... or her sisters. "Maybe that one's a strapping blue or brown, just for you?" And why not? She'd let her sister Impress first, if it came down to it. (As if she had some sort of say or control). She could be generous when it suited her, after all.

Tyara

Tyara was worried about the little green hiding behind the last egg as well, wondering what she had done to be snapped at by the blue. She couldn't help wonder herself if it was just those couple of blues or something they had not been here long enough to find out about blues. It was something they would have to see about learning later, she figured quietly. She wished she could tell the little green it would be alright, but she didn't want to upset her more by reminding her of it.

"Yes, probably just waiting. The baby would surely call out if it needs help..I think. And..I do too, just it..scared me, even if deserved,"she said softly. The fire had left her with a face that wasn't pretty, in her opinion, and then this would just add to it.

"There aren't many dragons left, I hope you get lucky with one of these last ones,"she told her brother gently.
