-- Personality & History --

Personality: In the past Lafiel gave little thought to the thoughts and feelings of those around him. He was raised as a privileged and spoiled future heir that could obtain virtually everything his heart desired. Of course, he was and always shall be an Angeni so he was not cruel or manipulative toward others, he simply did not fully understand what being an Angeni really meant. He did not appreciate the power he was given or why it was given to him; he focused solely on how perfect he was and anything beyond that was an unexplored gray area.

He did not receive a domain or realize his full potential until he and a great number of other Soquili were captured and tortured by humans that allowed their curiosity to overrule their common sense and hearts. His ego slowly wore away and his instincts turned to the basics. He wanted to survive and as that thought sunk in he realized he wanted to help those around him do the same. His selfish, conceited ways fell away and he made it his duty to bear the brunt of the torment, finally deciding what to use his strength for.

He would attempt to keep their spirits up by reminding them of home and telling them that each day they survived was another day closer to freedom. He would fill their minds with hope and, for a moment, make them forget about the horrid circumstances looming above them. He would laugh and joke, no matter how much it would hurt him because he was unwilling to see the light leave their eyes as they gave into darkness.

Lafiel conceals the ordeal he went through pretty well, mainly because he sees it as a learning experience that made him who he is today. Even so, not all of the trauma has simply washed away under the light of optimism. He still experiences horrific night terrors that force him to relive those wretched days, to see the faces of those he was unable to free as he said he would, and to feel the almost crippling fear that was his constant for such a long time. He speaks of this to no one as he uses his own domain to work it through, but inwardly he knows that he is only bandaging a more serious problem.

He is a playful stallion who is soft spoken and gentle in his words and actions. He adores laughing and making others laugh, especially when they are feeling depressed or alone. He can make light of just about anything which can be both irritating and inspirational. He has a large heart and a strong will, something he attempts to utilize when helping others.

History: Wind whispering through the trees, the scent of lush green grass as he made his way lackadaisically through the fields he called home, the sight of the large snow capped mountains providing a wall of protection on all sides and his mother’s sweet face gazing down upon him with eyes full to the brim with love and pride. All the things Lafiel once enjoyed when he was considered to be an average colt born of the wilderness with fire burning deep within his soul. At this time in his life he was entirely carefree, taking life day by day and taking every bit of it for granted unbeknownst to him. He never took note of the beauty he witnessed with his own honey hued eyes each day he was alive. Or how great it felt to stretch his muscles out as he ran as fast as he could across the valley, racing those his own age or older, proving his superiority. He grew to be a fine stallion, strong, swift, cunning, handsome and, at times, conceited. He knew he was a fine creation of nature and took that for granted as well. Oh how one looks back on the past and realizes how much the minute things should have meant.

One day free and the next crammed into a confined space filled with panicked horses from many different herds and locations. The stench of fear hung heavy on the air above him as the humans locked him and his brethren into the back of a large truck and drove away from his lush fields; the only thing keeping him sane was the presence of his mother beside him. Her warm body lent him comfort and the spicy scent of freedom on her coat provided him with a sense of calm. For the first time in his life he was uncertain of the outcome. His confidence began to fade as the sun rose and fell many times along this horrific journey. The space into which they had been shoved had begun to reek of excrement and death along with the constant scent of sheer terror. Many of the foals and elders passed on before the ride came to an end, cramping the space even further by leaving their shell behind to rot. Still he remained strong, keeping the fear at bay for the sake of his mother who grew weaker and more fragile each passing day.

Finally, the deafening purr emanating from the metallic beast that ensnared them quieted. Rather than making the situation better the silence only worsened the problem. Anxiety began seeping into the minds of those around him and their eyes rolled back into their heads as they began wildly bucking and kicking as though their lives depended on the very motion. The doors flung open and blood curdling screams ripped from the guts of many Soquili as they were dragged roughly through the opening by a firm hand and strong rope. His mother was snared before him and ripped from his side into the unknown world that rest beyond those sinister wooden jaws. Suddenly his heart beat loudly in his chest, throwing itself violently against his ribs as though trying to escape. Hands came at him from every direction and something grew taught around his throat, choking him. He was dragged into the dull gray light of a polluted world. The last image he saw before being pulled away from her forever was the horrified look upon his mother’s face as she was loaded into another truck. No longer were her eyes filled with love and pride but with sorrow and a defeated soul. She was lost to him forever, her fate never being a mystery he solved.

He was taken to a place he would never forget, not even in his wildest of dreams would he escape its iron clasp. He was thrown into a crowded stall where he would spend what seemed like an eternity; only, as time went on it would become less and less crowded. Those around him would die of illness or of whatever ungodly experiments were conducted upon them. To this day, he still questions how he survived when all but two others died. He was chained down every day and something new and, more often than not, painful would be performed on him. They cut into his flesh while he still lived, hacking away at his body and toying with his wings. Sometimes he would feel groggy while they did this and other times he wasn’t nearly groggy enough. After they finished playing they would take large needles and inject an ominous looking brown liquid into his veins, testing for something. The last thing they stole from him was his sight, only to replace it with a strange metal contraption around his head. The last thing he saw of this earth was a dimly lit room with blood and urine staining the floor.

Lafiel still doesn’t really recall how he escaped his nightmare, for it all seems a blur to him. He is still growing used to being blind and gets lost easily so it is no surprise that the day he escaped he was a little disoriented. He remembers humans shouting and the horses that still lived screeching and carrying on. The next moment it seemed he was fleeing as fast as he could in any direction, soon to smell fresh air once more. Somehow he came to live in these lands with the other Soquili, but upon first arriving he was unable to enjoy his freedom. He was full of anger and hate, wanting nothing to do with nature or his own kind. He remained solitary, reflecting on the darkness and blood of his past. Only, one day, as he blindly wandered around his new surroundings he found himself lost (something he has become quite good at doing). He heard the once familiar sound of birds chirping, breathed in the freshness of lush grass and clean air. His mother’s face popped into his memory and he knew how he was living now was a disgrace to her. He had survived what many others hadn’t; he should have been grateful for the life he had the chance to live again. From that day forth he became more positive about his situation and, one could say, finally grew into the stallion he was always meant to be.
