Our neighborhood is not very close-knit; aside from one or two neighbors that we had in the past who have all since moved away, I really don't even know any of their names, and since me and my brother had a near miss with a creeper when we were in elementary school, I don't particularly trust putting myself in a position where I would be alone with anyone else given the high number of rental properties in the area. Not that I object to helping the elderly, and not that my area is particularly bad- the guy that rents all these properties just doesn't do any kind of background or credit check, so we've ended up with some disreputable people nearby over the years.
