Tianara gave him a suspicious glance, but didn't push it. He probably just didn't want her to feel bad, she thought. But she was on to him. She'd take care to help get him healthy again. It didn't even occur to her that he might be embarrassed by the kiss - it had just been a natural impulse, so she had assumed it was a normal thing to do.
So, moving on, she examined the spider. "What does it need with so many legs?" she asked, fascinated as she watched the way it moved. "Do they all live in human houses? Do insects live in the sink? Is that where they catch them?" She was positively bubbling over with questions about this strange creature.
Standing again, she walked over to the window with the spider, peering through the blinds and holding her hands up as though trying to let the spider see as well. "See how pretty it is?" she asked the creature. "Would you like to go outside? It's very nice out there, I promise, and not cold at all."
Looking at Joshua, she asked, "Can they go outside, or do they have to live indoors?"

 The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Joshua, completely oblivious to Tianara's ideas, laughed at the multitude of questions. He sat on the bed crosslegged, watching her. "The legs are to help it balance and move quickly. It's center of gravity is really low, because it's such a low-slung creature. With eight legs, that thing can really move fast. As for insects, they live everywhere. I don't think there's a place on land that doesn't have them."
Seeing her raise the creature to the blinds, he felt bad about correcting her but he had to do it. "It probably can't see that Tianara. It's vision is rather limited, even having eight eyes. It can't see very far." He had to laugh at the last question. "Spiders are supposed to live outside. They only come indoors because they can find prey easier. They're harder to find outdoors, but there's spiders all over the place. All sizes too. Some are only this big." He held out one hand, thumb and forefinger just barely spread apart, almost touching. "Others can get this big." He had to use to hands, spread roughly a foot apart.  The tiger that should be....isn't....

Tianara stroked the very edge of one finger along the creature's hairy body, nodding as she listened to the answers to his questions. She did look a little sad when Joshua explained to her that it couldn't see very well, but that raised more questions. "Why not? How does it eat if it can't see to catch the insects? If I put it outside, will it starve?" She looked horrified at the idea - apparently she had adopted the little creature in her own mind.
When he answered her last question, she sighed and looked down at the little arachnid. "So he's just a little guy," she mused. "Should I put him out, then?" Somehow the spider had become a 'him' rather than an 'it' - if Joshua wasn't careful (and quick) about getting Tianara to put it out of the house, he might end up with an unexpected house pet until she moved out.
Apparently she was another of those 'stray-collectors' that Narcis had grumbled about earlier.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... "It sees well enough to survive." Joshua informed her with a smile. "It doesn't really need to see far. It builds webs instead, trapping the prey. Well, most spiders do. Because of the huge variety, there's all sorts of hunting techniques. That particular breed though, it builds webs." He shook his head, gesturing to the door. "It'll be fine outside. It survived out there before it found it's way in. It'll find a nice spot, build a web, eat and live. It's perfectly adapted." The tiger that should be....isn't....

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... ((Hell yeah!! We win!!!
And looking at the medals score for the top three, I've come to a conclusion - US settles for mediocre with more silver and bronze though they're very good at mediocre. Germany is well balanced overall. And Canada? Well, we go big or go home! XD )) The tiger that should be....isn't....

Tianara glanced down doubtfully at the spider in her hands. "Well, okay," she said, giving it a last gentle pet. She went towards the door. Opening it just a crack, she put the spider out into the grass near the doorway before closing it again. "I hope Mac doesn't step on him when he gets back," she said, sounding worried.
With a little smile, she wandered back towards the bed and sat down next to Joshua. Although she wondered if this was what it was like for him underwater - bemused and curious about everything - she didn't really like to ask. It felt a little awkward between them, for some reason. She stole a glance at him out of the corner of her eye.
Was it her imagination, or was he still a little red? It was curious - he hadn't seemed at all ill earlier.

Mac wondered a bit. He didn't want her to make anything that big, that seemed rude to him. "Well, I'd settle for something simple as a turkey sandwich if you don't mind" he scratched the back of his head as he said it.
Mike just looked at Aria with honesty, "I'm fine with whatever".

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Aria sighed, shaking her head theatrically. "Jeez you two. Where's the fun in something that simple?" She bustled around the kitchen, gathering up various things. "Since you both have no opinions really, you've left it up to me I guess. And that means spaghetti. I've been wanting to make that for awhile but I keep getting distracted." As she talked, she set to work preparing the food. The tiger that should be....isn't....

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Joshua watched as she put the spider outside. At her comment, he smiled. "Mac won't step on it. Spiders are very fast and they don't stay where they'll get stepped on." He reassured the girl, knowing the spider was likely already gone.
He shifted over slightly as Tianara sat down, making sure she had room. His blush had mostly faded, talking about the spider. But having her beside him again, the faintest red still colored his cheeks. He sighed, trying to pull himself together. He knew she hadn't really meant anything by the kiss, but still. The tiger that should be....isn't....

God, though, what a letdown afterwards. It's like Christmas - we built it up and up and up and then it was GONE.))
Tianara looked doubtful. "If you say so," she replied. She wondered if, since they couldn't see well, they maybe felt tremors on the ground or something when larger creatures approached. They were so close to the ground anyway...
Looking over to ask him about this, she paused. No, that definitely was not her imagination - he was still red. Worried, she imitated something she'd seen her mother do and reached out to gently place the back of her fingers against his forehead. She didn't really know what that was supposed to do, but her mother did it whenever she wasn't feeling well. "Are you sure you're all right, Joshua? You don't look well," she asked softly, looking concerned.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Joshua jerked back from the sudden touch, not having been expecting it. "What? Of course I'm fine. There's nothing wrong!" He insisted, wondering where she had gotten that idea. He tried to think, wondering what it was in his appearence that made Tianara assume he was ill. Finally, he had to ask, unable to figure it out. "Why in the world do think I wouldn't be well? I'm perfectly healthy." The tiger that should be....isn't....

Tianara tilted her head, looking surprised. "I just...you look flushed. And you feel warm," she replied. "Kiro said that that's not a good thing for humans - it means they aren't feeling well." It was clear that she wasn't quite sure what to think about her brother's words being refuted by Joshua; she was so used to believing that those she trusted most were always right that when they contradicted each other, she didn't know what to think.
"Maybe I misunderstood," she decided, since that was easier than deciding that one of them was wrong. Looking up, she caught the look in his eyes and immediately glanced down again. "I've bothered you. I'm sorry," she murmured.
((OOC: Just so everyone is aware, this is the most delicious cookie I have ever eaten. *noms*))

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Joshua suddenly realized what she was talking about. "Oh....That. It's nothing Tianara. Don't worry about." He smiled reassuringly. "Though Kiro is right. When a human's temperature gets too high, it's a sign of sickness. Small increases can be the result of various things though." He told her as he could see how conflicted she was about what Kiro had said and what he himself was saying.
Hearing her apologize, he sighed. "Tianara, how are you supposed to know things if you don't ask?" He asked her gently. "You're not bothering me." He chuckled lightly. "Everyone is always answering my questions. So I answer everyone else's questions when I can. It's the least I can do." The tiger that should be....isn't....

Instead of making her feel better, that explanation, incredibly, somehow made Tianara feel worse. So she was some kind of...repayment to the world, then, for answering all the questions he had? But she'd thought they were friends. She had thought that there was at least something there.
It seemed her fate to be a burden. Mrian had been right after all.
"Okay," she said, but her voice was as small as a human voice could possibly go while still remaining audible. "I...um, I need to..." She just nodded in the direction of the bathroom, got to her feet quickly and vanished into it, closing the door behind her.
Once it was shut, she just sat on the floor beside the shower with her head in her hands. Why could she never stop making a mess of things? Maybe it would be better if she just went away and left the others to their own devices - she didn't feel she was doing anything but holding them back while they tried to protect the merfolk.
Resting her cheek against her knees, she closed her eyes and brooded silently.
