  He stared at her across the rim of his cup as he took in a healthy sip of the black coffee he ordered. She observed her slender fingers gently wrapped around her own cup, filled with steaming tea rather than coffee. He noticed she shifted them to grip the cup closer as if trying to absorb more of its warmth through her hands.
"Why do you think they put the two of us together?"
"Hard to say," she replied. "On the surface we may not seem like the perfect match... but underneath I think we have more in common than most expect."
"Yeah?" he guffawed. "Like what?"
"We can be a bit of a workaholic when it comes to projects we become invested in? Family means everything to us?" she suggested. "Or maybe it's because we're both stubborn badasses."
His steel reserve shattered at this comment and he let out a genuine laugh as he wiped a hand over his tired face.
"Am I wrong?" she asked.
"No. No, you're right. We are a couple of stubborn badasses," he replied.
She smiled gently in response before lifting the tea to her lips.

  I still find it amusing that the house JDM and his family are staying in while he's filming the final season of TWD is the very house Rick's family lived in at Alexandria.
And the first meal JDM cooked for his family was spaghetti. xd
