Hariette tilted her head at Rémi mentioning they had a question. She was really good at questions! She sat down, hair puddling around herself as she looked up at the men. They were both smiling happily, so she could only assume it wasn't bad news. Bright eyes sparkled up at Hikaru as he spoke, mentioning having fun playing all the time. It really was fun, wasn't it? Her head tilted the other direction when Hika said they wanted to be her dads. They had a room and a kitty? Just for her? "You wan' be my pabbi? And... and my pabbi too?" A bright grin lit up her face, the girl excited about getting to move in with Rémi and Hikaru.
Rémi wrapped an arm around Hikaru, waiting nervously for the girl's answer. He knew it would be an uphill battle, but he was excited for the challenge. Hariette was a bright young girl, and he hoped she would agree to come along. After a few moments of deliberation, the blonde asked about being their "pabbi" which he assumed from context was the same as papa. "Yes, sweet fleur, we would love to be your papas. Would you love to be our fille? Our daughter?" He watched her tug on her pale hair, his own turning a stormy grey. "I will love be your dottir! I be for you and you!" The girl's chipper voice broke the silence, and Rémi was able to let free a breath he didn't know he held. She pushed to her feet, and before Rémi knew what was happening, he was getting the biggest hug the girl had to offer. His hair faded to a soft violet, happiness welling in the man's heart.

spacePam had to admit, she was more than a little anxious about this whole endeavor. It wasn't that she didn't think she and Aster would make good parents, on the contrary, she was pretty sure they'd be great at it. It was more that this whole system was a bit odd to her. She'd been adopted practically as a newborn by her mothers, of course, but she'd also been raised by them, and they were muggles. The system she was familiar with was the foster system, which had its own issues, but was quite a bit different from an orphanage. It felt so... Dickensian. Which was a word she had learned from Lori specifically while having a conversation about this very feeling.
spaceShe didn't have anything against Wool's as an entity, since she knew well enough that it was a perfectly respectable and well-managed place. But there was still something odd about it. As a child, she'd always envisioned being a foster mother to a child she fell so in love with that she decided to keep them. Or at the very least, ending up in a situation like her mothers, adopting an infant because she just happened to be in the right place at the right time. Certainly not this whole... going to the orphanage and picking a child out like... like a kitten, or something. But, that was how things worked in the magical world. She was still a little put out that she couldn't be a foster mother, to be perfectly honest, but imagining the impossibility of maintaining the SoS with children in and out the door gave her enough of a headache that she was willing to let it go.
spaceAll that did not do so much to help her nerves, though. She fidgeted as soon as they were in the door, glancing to Aster with a nervous smile. "Do you have any idea how this actually works?" she asked. She knew that Carver had grown up here for the most part, but they weren't exactly close enough to him to feel comfortable asking, and Lori was unwilling to be the go-between, the traitor. "Like... Is there a sign-in sheet? Do we set up meeting times? Do we just walk in? That seems bad, surely to God we don't just walk in. We probably have to talk to someone... but who? And what if none of the kids like us? What it too many kids like us, how do we choose?!" Of course, they planned on eventually adopting a small army, or they at least had the possibility in mind. But one to start was probably wise. They were already going to have to get a bigger flat if they went through with this.

Aster was not in the best of moods, as she was coming off an excruciatingly long quidditch match from this weekend, which had resulted in a nasty head cold and sore throat for her. However, she was trying to put on a game face, since this wasn't going to go well for them if she was just standing there glowering and rasping at small children. But she could understand Pam's unease; they were both muggleborn, after all, and the idea of orphanages seemed ludicrous to them. Aster still didn't get why the Ministry couldn't just form up a network of magical foster parents and rotate children between them, but she supposed Wool's was just far more convenient. "Do I?" she asked incredulously as they stepped into the large stone building. "What, like I've been here before without you?" Looking around, she spotted what looked like a check-in sheet on a table in the lobby. "Here, I'll sign us both in. Want to see if there's a receptionist or someone around here?" She was assuming they couldn't just waltz upstairs without someone escorting them. "And stop worrying," she added, a little hoarsely, "I've never met someone who managed to actively dislike you for longer than a few minutes, babe."

spacePam shrugged somewhat helplessly at her wife, wondering not for the first time if they should've rescheduled this. Of course, scheduling it had been difficult enough in the first place, which left her reluctant to call for a raincheck. Still, she was sort of hoping Aster's mood would improve the longer they were here. "I dunno! You work with magical types, I figured it wasn't totally impossible you'd heard something, or spoken to someone," she replied, knowing even as she said it that it was a silly thing to think. "More chance than me. I work with Dom, sure, but all the other magical people around the shop are... you know." Her nose wrinkled. "Weird. And most of the client base is muggle. So, like. Of the two of us, you're more likely to know something! Slightly!" She paused, huffing, because even she knew she was being ridiculous. "Very slightly. The teensiest of margins, really. But still there!"
spaceAt the very least, Aster's take-charge attitude was making an appearance, as she handily took control of the situation. It helped that she was also infinitely more observant than Pam, who couldn't be bothered to see what was right in front of her face half the time. Of course, it could just be because she was trying to get them in and out as quickly as possible, which wasn't exactly conducive to trying to meet a child they hoped to take home. But this was really more of a fact-finding mission anyway, she supposed. And at least she wasn't snapping at her, and was trying to be re-assuring. Pam felt like she was about to vibrate into non-existence with jitters. The reminder that she was, generally, well-liked, was welcome.
spaceSo, she saluted her wife, uttered an only-slightly sarcastic, "Yes, ma'am," and ducked her head around a corner, looking to see if there was any sign of an adult-type person. Or a bell. "Is there a bell on the table, maybe?" she called over her shoulder, thinking it would make sense. Or maybe the doors were magically rigged to alert people when someone came in? That would be very smart.

◆◊ Caty eagerly led Finn into the orphanage possibly behaving way too giddy for such a grim atmosphere but she couldn't help herself. After about a year of slowly chipping away at her husband's fears and quiet angst (there wasn't really another word for it) until he agreed to, at the very least, start accompanying her to visit with children. She didn't volunteer as much with the orphanage as much as her older siblings might have but she had come by a bit in the past few weeks leading up just to understand what they could and couldn't do. She wanted everything to go amazing and perfect and Finn just didn't want to accidentally make someone cry. After signing in, she kept a tight hold of Finn's hand (mostly so she didn't go running in every direction because ohmygoodnesslookhowtinytheyallare!) and walked into a small living room area where some toys were scattered about.
"See? We're inside and nothing bad has happened," "Yet." Finn couldn't help but mumble and could only give a small smirk at his pixie wife's snort. "Don't be like that, nothing's going to happen! Just relax and, y'know, go with it?" Caty added rather unhelpfully. It wasn't her fault! Hearing her Da talk about it, the way he'd found all of them was like a cosmic touch of fate, same for Gid and Rhys and Kenny and Jojo. So they just had to be patient and willing and then everything would follow suit. Finn was just really, really hoping they didn't make a kid cry. He had basically zero experience with young kids other than Simon and even then he really bonded more with Caty than with him. He wanted this too, don't get him wrong it was mostly Caty but he knows she would've respected his decision if he never actually wanted kids but no one would blame him for being just a tad nervous. The longest thing he's ever kept alive was his dog and the smears of cells he has growing in a lab. And he's nearly poisoned the dog twice. At least kids can eat chocolate. ◇◈

Kai was sitting in the living room floor playing with a train. Some of the cars looked like they belonged to other sets, but it was fine for him. He made quiet train noises, interspersed by his odd noises. He didn't really like those, but all the grownups said they were going to be there forever. He sighed softly, then moved to humming. He played for a while when his attention was called away. The blonde looked over to the door, noticing two people he wasn't sure he'd seen. Well.... maybe he'd seen the lady before, but the guy was new. Feeling a surge of bravery, Kai pushed himself to his feet, his small stature not exactly intimidating. The boy leaned over and grabbed the engine of the train, then walked over to the couple. "Hi! I've ~whoo!~ seen you, I think, right?" Kai looked up at the lady, wondering if he'd met her here.... or somewhere else. When it was with his grandma, he never exactly met people... but maybe in the hospital? He squirmed nervously, wondering why they might be here.

Kai looked up at the couple when they looked really.... really excited. Well, one of them did, the lady, but the guy was interested in something behind Kai. The lady confirmed that she'd been here before, prompting a nod and a little grin from the 5 year old. He was about to say something, but a few twitches overtook him for a few seconds, leaving the blonde a bit dazed. Luckily, attention was taken away by the man pointing out the books and toys, then mentioning the train still clutched in Kai's chest. "Thank you! I like it too, but the wheel's kinda -whoo!- ooh.... kinda wobbly." He handed up the train to the man, just in case he wanted to see it up close. Turning his attention over to the lady, he sent a lopsided grin. "M'name's Kai, by-a-way. Really secret it's Malakai. But that's long." He was really happy, but part of it was that he didn't have any "woo"s while talking. Maybe they were going away?

◆◊ Finn briefly wondered if the little boy had to sneeze with his tiny adorable look of confusion but it seemed to pass as he continued talking about his train. He made a soft "ah" sound at hearing that the wheels were wobbly and was going to go with the consummate "that sucks" when it was ceremoniously dropped into his hand. His eyes widened as he clutched the toy, was this a greeting ritual? Did he give something back in return? Was there bowing involved? Chants? Ribbon?! God, he was close to hyperventilating at this rate.
Caty however was practically moonwalking on sunshine as the little boy introduced himself (********) and crouched just a tad (she would no longer curse her height if it meant it was easier to look at babies) still beaming brightly. "My name's Caty! I have a really long name too, Catheryne, but I much prefer my other name."
"Mine is Finn, short for Phineas." Finn followed along still eyeing the toy with uncertainty. Caty caught his looks and raised a questioning eyebrow giggling as he pouted a bit. "Kai said the wheel's a bit wobbly but, I can't really tell?" He knew he didn't have to be an actual engineer to figure out a children's toy but he'd checked the wheels and axles and they all seemed fine to him. Caty oo'd and promptly took the toy and began looking it over, finding the problem in under a minute. "It looks like this wheel was popped in backwards. It might've fallen off and someone just put it back on without realizing. Easy fix, you'll be back on the tracks in no time!" She had played with many toy cars, trains, planes, buses, even a trolley at some point in her childhood. Her da never wanted to stifle any of his kid's creativity so to a point, they got basically any toy within reason as long as they asked. And she asked. A bunch.
That being said from her rather...enthusiastic play, she'd also damaged allot of cars, trains, planes, buses, and the lone trolley. Between all her family there'd always been someone she could go to and ask and after a while, she'd paid attention so many times she could even figure it out herself. Who would've known watching a toy car be flung from an open cellar door would lead her to this precise moment! It really was as simple as she said, it was a little difficult tugging the tire off at first but once it was, it was easy to flip it around and slide it right back on making sure it was good and snug. "I think we're all good here, Kai! What do you think?" she asked giving it back to the little boy. ◇◈

Kai watched the grown ups have different reactions, the nice lady looking super excited, but the guy looking confused and upset.... Maybe he secretly didn't like trains? After introducing himself, the lady, Caty, said she also had a long name. And she was right! It was probably a lot more letters than his own name! The man also chimed in, saying he was called Finn. So everyone had a long name? What about people with already long names? Did they have... super mega long names?
"So Caty, but not Cath-woo-eryne, and also Finn, but not Phineas. And Kai! Kai but -whoowoo- not Malakai!" He pointed at each of them as he said their names, wagging his finger when he said their long names. The only time he faltered were when he twitched up, but maybe they didn't see. After that, Finn said the wheel was fine, but Caty took the train and investigated. The five year old's eyes went wide when she quickly figured out the problem. "You gotta be 'mazing to know that!" He paused his words while a few twitches overtook him, this time accompanied by small clicking noises. Of course, he got excited and now he was gonna be called a weirdo and have the nice grown ups leave...
Or not? He looked curiously up at the adults, but they weren't leaving. Caty was fixing the train wheel, which she then handed back to him and asked if it was good. The boy gently spun the wheel, looking awestruck. She fixed it just like magic! "It's all better! Now it can zoom around again! Thanks you both!" He grinned brightly up at them, hoping they wanted to stay and maybe play for a while. This place could get awful lonely...

Kai tugged on his shirt with a little grin, looking up with excitement while Finn told him that Caty made stuff for her job. Despite it being super vague, the boy's eyes sparkled with wonder. "I want -woo!- to be good at fixing stuff too! May-woo-maybe you can teach me too?" He looked a bit nervous, thinking the nice lady may tell him no, or say he was too little to learn stuff... but he wasn't! He knew a lot of stuff, though it was mostly learned by watching telly or being at preschool.
All at once, Caty asked if he wanted to test the train's rolling. A bright grin quickly overtook his face as he nodded happily."We can! I love playing with trains! -Whoowoo!- We can use all the cars!" He bounced excitedly on the balls of his feet, leading to a small twitching fit. He grabbed Finn's hand and led the group over to the little tracks, flopping to the floor. Small hands set the engine gently on the track, then Kai pushed it, eyes wide with joy. "It goes! So very nice now! Thanks Caty!" He sent her a bright smile, glad he met such nice adults.

Kai looked curiously up at Caty when she agreed to teach him. She also said he could help, causing the boy to gasp and grin widely. "Yes! Oh yes yes! -whoowoowoo!" The boy paused for a moment, looking dizzy after having his twitches. Once he was steady enough, Kai continued. "I can help with lots of things! And I can practice too!" He bounced a bit, looking like he'd just been gifted a key to the world. These grown ups, Kai decided, he very much liked. They were so nice and friendly and silly too! It was wonderful!
After sitting in the floor to test out the train, Finn followed and plopped down too. He asked where the train had been going before Kai got distracted, and the boy tilted his head. Finn was holding one of the yellow trains, so clearly they were going to have to race. "The train was gonna 'liver all the people to the barn over -whoo- there. There's gonna be a petting zoo with the farm animals!" He gestured to the barn toward the end of the track, which had all kinds of animals around it. Some of them were actual farm animals, but there were also giraffes, an elephant, a lion, and a few other odd animals. While Kai was explaining, he hooked up a couple cars to his train engine, then grinned over at Finn.
