Another successful Impression, and even more hatching dragons. However, it seemed one bronze had taken real offense to a candidate in particular, flaring his wings and snarling. "I'm not going to be the one to jinx it." He snorted at Talis, glancing at A'ral as he boomed out basic knowledge that should be basic knowledge for all candidates. He shook his head slightly with exasperation.

If a mauling happened because some idiot couldn't keep their thoughts straight, Lauthisen wouldn't be surprised.

The tall woman made an exasperated sound as the two quipped back and forth. "Ladies, please. Our charming personalities make for... interesting conversation, at the very least." She reached out to absently nudge Marty to show she meant no offense, and reached out to take Roana's hand with a slight squeeze. "We aren't the idiots here." She snorted, especially when A'ral called out. She sighed, irritated, but not surprised that someone had violated one of the most basic rules.

"We knew it was likely." She said dryly... and gave Roana's hand another squeeze, when the girl mentioned large eggs still being in the back. She was embarrassed to have been so obvious, but silently appreciated the support. She didn't want to be a goldchaser, far from it--but how else was she to help lead Pern, if not on the back of a queen? "I know." She spoke a little tonelessly in response to the clutch with four bronzes and a gold. She just didn't want to get her hopes up.

The redhead's words made her frown, especially as claws jutted out of the Peach Polka Dot egg. "I don't know. I'm not so sure the heat is evenly distributed on the Hatching Grounds as well... but." She clicked her tongue, watching with narrowed eyes as the first blue's eyes suddenly went white.... and then.... rainbow?

Good.

And not a moment to soon, for a brown suddenly emerged--an enormous brown.

Why, that green baby was sassy! Alya snickered to herself, keeping close to the crowd. "Why, Ticene! The world's first lady bronzerider! Then I'd really be a lucky charm..." She paused as a huge brown burst forth, making the appropriate 'oohing' and 'ahhing' sounds. "Why, maybe a big brown for one of you!" She said enthusiastically--and then nudged Esfir with a grin. "Maybe a big boy for you, since you are so small!"

She was small, too, but hey. They didn't need to point that out.

His attention turned from trying to lure the Ducky bronze over to staring at the HUGE brown that had just decided to make his appearance with a loud bugle. Now there was a dragon! Just as spectacular as a bronze with that size and commanding presence. He certainly got Jagmund's attention, and the Candidate continued to stare at him, eager to see what he would do next.

What did that frightened little blue think it was doing wandering over towards her brother? Bristling with anger and a bit of worry, she was about to pull Erastan away when she saw it. A rainbow in that dragon’s eyes and every bit of her went numb. It was like she was standing alone suddenly and the little teen had no idea what to do about it. Yanking her hand from her brother’s grip, she stepped back shakily and watched through eyes full of horror as he Impressed to that blue.

Sure it was pretty but... but he was HERS. Her other half her.... nothing.

Now she didn’t have another half because he didn’t need her any longer. A sick feeling passed over her as her thoughts snapped blank.

Mari studied Jagmund for a long moment, before smiling. Yes, the Brown was impressive, wasn’t he? His eyes followed the brown as strutted across the sands. “I’ve never seen one so big,” he marveled. He’d have to tell his brother about this!

“Do you think he’s yours?” He asked, looking to Jagmund. He could be! Or Ommie’s. Or his, or anyone’s! He couldn’t wait to see who the brown picked.

"Probably," Akaris agreed, gaze returning to the clutch after it had swung to focus on A'ral. She was quite relieved not to be the one screwing up today - she had in fact been trying very very hard for months to be a good candidate - but she did sympathize a bit with the boy, and very much hoped the bronze wouldn't hurt him. That would be awful.

But then there was a brown, and he was massive and handsome and he knew it. She stared at him with wide eyes. "Ohh, look at him!"

Maybe that one was the one for Rylyrr? They had 'large and handsome' in common at the very least.

Well now. That green sure was a picky thing. Looked like she was eyeing them all up like she was picking a cut of meat. Jacquol could respect that. It was important to like the spoils you took, after all. Especially if it meant you were stuck with them. The shy blue she felt...vaguely bad for, at least until she saw its eyes whirl rainbow. All'd be well there then, at least! The golden baby turned out to be bronze, and after a mild escapade, a second one joined the fray. Those both were more or less ignored—women didn't ride bronzes, after all! Though the second bronze did crack free another blue. That was nice of him. And then, hoooo baby! Look at that big brown! That was confidence! You go guy!

Oh, well. Things were certainly livening up. Or at least, the noise levels said it was. It was rather hard to see anything, still, aside from a glimpse of blue here, or brown there. That was alright. She watched as the newly impressed went off to their sides, pleased to see High Reaches take the first and second...even if they were only greens. Greens were still important, right? They could fight, and that was important. Now and then she peeked up at her father, to see if he still wore the same dour, disapproving look.

"Oh, oh no, honestly it's all my fault!" The man insisted. "I admit I was a bit transfixed by the hatchlings, and I've always been ever so clumsy, heh..." Oh, he was making even more a fool of himself. Realizing he still had the book in his hands, and the now semi-smashed quill, dripping ink...In a flurry he stuffed them into a pocket (and rest in peace these trousers) and offered a hand. "O-Oseathiol, harper, at your service...?" It was then that he realized there was a rather large smear of ink still on his hand. The hand he'd offered to a rider. Blanching and blushing all at once some how, he hastened to wipe his palm down before offering it again. "...Terribly sorry," He mumbled again, smile firmly in place, if somewhat shaky.

"He is the largest brown hatching I have ever seen,"Rylyrr replied a bit astonished at the sheer size of the hatchling. He had been a candidate for twelve turns and had watched for a few turns before when Naolin had stood before he had gotten a chance and he couldn't recall at all one brown hatchling that matched in size.

"He is certainly a handsome fellow."

Oh yeah! Oh BABY! Jacquol leapt into the role of fan. With a grin to split her face, she hit one knee, holding her arms out to measure the wingspan on the brown. "You are just HUGE, aren't you? A big shining star, right? Atta boy. Steal the show!" A wink! Though she'd never imagined a brown would be for her...this one wasn't bad at all. Who'd be the lucky rider? She didn't know, but she was a fan!

The booming voice and commotion of some of the candidates drew B'gian's attention that way. Someone upset a baby again? He felt his face flush in sympathy embarrassment as he saw the Bronze baby flaring up at someone. Oh boy. Then his attention got inevitably drawn to the little blue desperately seeking out his other half.

And then the loud bugle of the largest brown dragonet he'd ever seen demanded him and even Molihuth turned to look at her sibling.

Molihuth answered with the loudest bugle she could muster, encouraging her brothers and sisters to do what they needed to do to find theirs. Some of them were certainly taking their sweet time.

Letting out a rush of air as the blue impresses to his, Riz smiled and his attention was completely grabbed by the massive brown that cracked out of it’s shell and began to strut around like a showman. Now this was a dragon that knew how to make an entrance into the world. But would it be as good at fighting Thread as it was at showing off? He didn’t know, but he sent a wave of appreciation it’s way.

"He's quite something, isn't he?" Rio admired with a chuckle, appreciating the self-confidence and showmanship the enormous brown displayed. He wasn't playing King of the Beach the way the bright bronze had; rather, he seemed to be going for King of Hearts. He wasn't a subtle dragon, but he was delightful.

"Either one of you would be a sight to see with him! Then again, it would be hard not to be a sight to see with him."

"Not if I protect you first!" Kinye replied, though she took some comfort in knowing that Ionan and she were watching each other's backs. The bronze seemed uninterested in mindlessly attacking them all yet - and "Oh! He found his! Oh good," the little nervous blue had most certainly found the one they wanted - needed even!

And then had come a brown that was big and proud. "Oh! Look how big that brown is!" she gasped, patting her brother's shoulder repeatedly. He was so big. "Think we know anybody who would be as big and bold as that?"
