((OOC: That sure isn't how I read it. whee However, I can and do see dirty subtext in everything. On that note, anyone else seen the new Alice in Wonderland movie? Holy crap, talk about your creepy subtext.))
Tianara liked that Joshua tried so hard to find the best possible explanation. But she could see the holes in it, and it was a struggle not to immediately point them out. If Narcis had found something, why bring Nezik and Jinx and Sorry all to see it instead of just bringing it back with him (if it was portable, anyway)? Why not tell her and Joshua - well, her, anyway. Joshua, Narcis might still be wary of. Why had no one gotten in contact with the four yet? Most importantly, why had Katalina and Narcis not dragged the others back at full speed when the Dark One incident had occurred? Tianara's range, though very wide, fell short of an actual, seasoned mermaid's. Katalina would probably have been keeping an eye on them, and she should have felt it.
Lost in these thoughts, she forgot to answer Joshua for a moment or two. When at last she realized that she hadn't spoken yet, she smiled sadly. "I wish I could be as optimistic as you," she murmured. "I can't help but be afraid for them."

((I want to see that movie!))
Mac thought a second, "Maybe we could watch T.V., or talk about stuff" he answered as though wondering which answer would trigger the best response.
Mike quickly began taking his clothes off, "Where is your bathroom?" he asked, "I need a shower". He already had his shirt off.
Mac quickly looked back at him, "Mike! We're not at home! Don't change in front of her!" Mac quickly looked back at Aria, "Sorry about that" he sighed.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... ((I'm going to go see it this week. I had to try and find a theater showing it in 2D as I can't watch 3D.))
"No tv here." Aria told him with a laugh. "Well, not really. There's a tv but it's mostly so grandpa can watch his movies." Glancing at Mike she pointed out the door. "Down the hall, first door on your left. Towels in the lower right hand cupboard."
Joshua sighed, his smile slightly bitter. "I know. I'm just trying not to think of what could have possibly gone wrong. I don't like to. I'm much rather see the silver lining than the grey cloud." He shrugged sadly. He knew there were so many holes in his ideas but he wanted to cling to a more peaceful idea than dig into darkness. The tiger that should be....isn't....

Mike thanked her, and began walking to the bathroom. He entered, grabbed a towel from the cupboard, turned on the shower, and then shut the door.
Mac apologized about Mike, "It's okay, he just doesn't have any embarrassment about his body. He does this quite often back home with his girlfriend following close behind him" he giggled. He followed Aria, helping her with the bed.

((OOC: THEY HAVE IT IN 3D?!?!?! Gah, I feel cheated now. Anyway, I just saw it today. It's good. heart But has anyone noticed that the name of the girl who plays Alice does not appear on the commercials (at least as far as I recall)? I asked around, and no one knows who she is. XD))
Tianara didn't reply for several long minutes. At last, she said simply, "I know." There was a curious absence of feeling in the words. After a few more minutes of awkward silence, she said, "We're here."
She had stopped in front of the cavern, and she now looked back at him. There was a wry twist to her mouth. "I guess we need to go in," she said after a minute. "I don't mind admitting I'm a little worried. Do you want to come in too, or would you rather stay out here?" She stood framed in the cavern entrance, waiting for his reply.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... ((Most places here have it in 3D. I had to go searching for a 2D version. And I never pay attention to the actors. The only one I know for certain is Mad Hatter, AKA Johnny Depp. All I can think, listening to him in the commercials, is Jack Sparrow meets Wonderland. XD ))
Aria just smiled and shook her head, laughing quietly. "No worries. Better to have no embarrassment that to have to much. If that made any sense." She dusted her hands in a decisive gesture. "Well, there's that done." She said, referring to the bed, which had been made up with a pillow and a blanket for each of the boys. She looked at the bed, then went back to the living room. She curled up on one end of a small couch. "See?" She gestured to the small tv tucked in the corner. "It's not used very often and it only gets the most basic channels. So there's not really anything to watch, unless you want to watch one of grandpa's multitude of videos."
Joshua wondered about the lack of feeling in her voice as she replied. But he didn't have long to wonder because they'd arrived. He looked at the entrance almost fearfully. He couldn't forget about how.....predatory.....the pair of Sirens had seemed.
He shivered than sighed. "I'd really much rather wait outside," He admitted, then continued. "But that would mean sending you in by yourself. So I'll come as well." He swam forwards, entering the cavern before she could protest. He honestly wasn't looking forwards to this, but as he'd said, he didn't want to let Tianara go alone. Especially after she had already admitted to being a little worried. The tiger that should be....isn't....

((OOC: I know Johnny Depp was the Mad Hatter. I know Helena Bonham-Carter was the Red Queen. I know that Anne Hathaway was the White Queen. But I have no effin' idea who was Alice. XDDD ETA: And that's why - I just read her name five times and still can't type it out. Mia something or other. Waskowski? Something like that.))
Tianara was about to object when Joshua swam past her. "You don't have to--" she started, then sighed. The truth was, she really didn't want to go by herself.
But she wasn't going to let him go in first and probably get eaten, either. She reached out and touched his shoulder again. Her voice came into his mind, this time - speaking out loud was a bit dangerous, considering how close they were. "Hang on, Joshua. You have to be careful when you enter a Siren's cove uninvited. Follow me."
Taking the lead, she went closer to the cavern floor, her gaze straight ahead to where they were going. She opened her mind again, looking for Riiya and Korai.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Joshua smiled slightly as she stopped mid-protest. He glanced at her as she 'spoke' to him. Nodding, he let her take the lead. She would know how to deal with this type of situation better than him - And he'd already learned a lesson about letting her take the lead. So this time he just kept his mouth shut and followed, peering ahead as best he could. The tiger that should be....isn't....

Tianara, too, was extremely cautious. Sirens of any stripe were very territorial, and didn't like others intruding on their home cavern. So she sent out strong, clear signals - nothing worse than having Riiya or Korai think they were trying to sneak in.
Soon enough, Riiya appeared at the entrance to the cavern. Somehow, she looked a little less predatory than last time - perhaps it was the concern drawn in her face. Her body stilled when she spotted Joshua and Tianara, and a smirk flitted across her features. "Well, the little human has come back to play," she murmured. "And he's brought a new friend."
Ignoring this less-than-promising start, Tianara took a breath. "We're looking for Narcis," she said quietly. "Have you seen him?"
Riiya eyed her oddly. "I haven't seen him in days," she replied - coldly, obviously not pleased about it. "Since he left with Sorry."
"And you haven't seen her either?" Tianara pressed.
Riiya hissed. "I haven't seen either of them, little girl. Last I heard, they were going to her cove." The strained look came back into her eyes, and all the anger in the world couldn't have masked it. "Why come here?"
Tianara didn't want to be the one to break the news, but someone had to tell them. "They're missing," she said softly. "They and Nezik and Jinx have all vanished. If you hear anything from them, could you...?"
Riiya stared at her for a second. A hard shudder seemed to ripple through her body. Then she turned away. "Fine. Whatever. Get out," she snapped. Then she disappeared back the way she had come.
Tianara looked after the Siren, her eyes worried. Then she turned back to Joshua, and gestured towards the entrance. "Let's go," she said quietly. "She's stressed enough. We shouldn't test her patience."

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Joshua stifled the urge to groan as he saw Riiya and saw the smirk. Why in the world had he suggested coming here again? He had to remind himself to pay attention to the conversation. He closed his eyes briefly as Riiya confirmed that neither Katalina nor Narcis had been here recently. Well, there went that idea. Which left them in the dark again.
Joshua sighed as the Siren disappeared. "Well that's not good." He murmured quietly. Glancing at Tianara, he nodded. He had no qualms about leaving now that they had their answers. He certainly didn't want to try the Siren's patience. He turned and swam back the way they came, silent as he reviewed what they'd learned - Which wasn't much. The tiger that should be....isn't....

Tianara, however, was at least partially worried by the Siren's behaviour. "She was scared, Joshua," the girl said softly once they were out of the cavern. "Did you see that? She's scared." And considering the Siren's traditions, Tianara bet she knew why, too. But that wasn't really the important thing here, aside from the fact that it made her want to get the four back even more.
Seeing Joshua's discouragement, she touched his arm gently. "We have more than we did, Joshua," she said quietly. "Sorry would have gone to the caverns - that was where she was told to go. Now we just have to work our way from here to where she left us, going the shortest way. Whatever happened, it must have been between those two places, and that's not that much water. We can track her from there."

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... "She did seem more stressed than last time I saw her." Joshua murmured in agreement. He didn't like to think of Siren's being scared. No good could come of it, he felt sure.
At the gentle touch, he relaxed slightly, looking up at Tianara. "We at least have a direction, if nothing else." He'd been hoping to find something at the Siren cave but - in an odd way - finding nothing was actually something. It meant Katalina had never been there. "What in the world could have happened?" He asked rhetorically. It wasn't that much of a swim from point A to point B so how did Katalina disappear along the way? And if she disappeared there, where did the others disappear from? The tiger that should be....isn't....

Tianara glanced at him. "It isn't because of the coming war," she said quietly. She already knew what it was about - or at least she was pretty sure she did. It wasn't very hard to guess. "It has more to do with Siren protocol, I think. I'll explain some time. Suffice to say for now that the only reason she didn't hurt us is because she really wants us to find Narcis."
She sighed, looking around and trying to centre herself. "If Sorry was never there, that means the others were never there. Narcis was probably trying to get her to safety, so he sent her to the only place he could think of," she said, taking his question literally. "But...whatever happened...someone, or something, anticipated him." She pushed her hair back, thinking deeply.
"I want to know how whatever happened even got her...them," she said at last. "I don't know if Sorry's ever shown you, Joshua, but especially when there's a threat, merfolk move fast. They're possibly one of the fastest things in the ocean. So either something surprised her, maybe they used one of the others to catch her, or else..." She hated to say it. But she had to. "Or else she didn't feel threatened until whatever happened..." She shook her head.
After a second, she made herself continue. "The other three were...they were alone when Sorry went with us to take Kiro home. Probably whatever happened to them happened then. Maybe they went to check something or talk to someone, and..." She made an expressive gesture.
"But it's all just guessing," she muttered. "We have to find some proof." She was swimming slowly, her attention on the surroundings, looking for something to give them a signal. Although she thought they were too close to the Siren's cavern to find anything - if anything had happened here, Riiya or Korai would have heard it - she kept an eye out just in case.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... When Tianara said it wasn't because of the coming war, Joshua felt a few pieces of the puzzle snap together in his mind. He thought he knew what she was talking about, remembering when Katalina had explained the differences between Sirens and the merfolk.
He glanced at her in surprise when she answered the question. He hadn't meant for her to answer. It was interesting though, to hear her thoughts on the situation. He frowned as he listened. None of it was very pretty to hear. A dark thought appeared in his mind. "Is it possible......No, never mind. It's not worth it." He changed his mind about asking, not wanting to hear the scathing reply he was sure to get.
But was it possible? Could Katalina have not felt threatened because it had someone she'd known? Could one of the merfolk have helped with the disappearance? It was a dark thought and not one he wanted to entertain. A traitor would make things so much more complicated. The tiger that should be....isn't....

Tianara thought she saw a light of comprehension in his eyes, but she didn't say anything about it. Riiya's problems, though they made Tianara sad, were hardly the biggest worry on her mind right now. If Joshua was curious, she could always explain later.
She frowned when he began to ask a question, then changed his mind. "Is what possible?" she asked quietly. "Anything is worth it, Joshua. Go ahead and ask - I don't have many guesses right now." She brushed back her long dark hair, feeling a sick sort of dread in her stomach. He didn't really have to ask the question; she thought she knew what it was. But she didn't want to answer it unless he asked. She didn't want to say it.
Maybe he was thinking about something else. She hoped so. Let it be that way, she thought. Let him not be thinking the same way she was, however reluctantly, beginning to.
More than all that, let her and Joshua find the four of them soon, she thought. That was the most important thing.
