Tianara barely heard him. Although she was too far away now to respond, a sad smile came to her face, very briefly. If she was right about what she'd seen growing in her brother's eyes, there wasn't going to be enough time for Joshua to help her. That was why she'd told him to focus on Nezik and Jinx. They were more important.
Idly, she wondered if she ought to be more frightened. She knew she would be, if and when the time came, but at the moment, she felt...distant. Detached.
The others would be safe, and that was all that mattered.
~
The other three mermen seemed to confer at the edge of the plane. They remained there for quite a while, speaking rapidly in the bubbly tongue of the merfolk. Then they split up, each going a different direction. None of them so much as glanced back. It was evident they had no intention of returning, at least not until Kistad did.
And that, considering the circumstances, would probably be a while.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Joshua briefly prayed that Tianara would be alright. He waited for the mermen to leave, impatient. He wanted to get this over and done with so he could get back to Tianara. Something she'd seen in her brother's eyes had scared her.
As soon as he was sure he wouldn't be seen, he darted out from his hiding place. Swimming over the the plane, he circled it once, then stopped in front of the door. Hesitantly, he touched the frame, testing to see if it had the same spell as the submarine. He suspected it did and was ready to pull back the moment he felt any heat. The tiger that should be....isn't....

It did not. There was no heat in the airplane, and indeed, it was almost abnormally cool to the touch. Not enough to hurt, but still quite cold. Perhaps the heat had not been a spell after all - with all that Narcis had been throwing at the barrier, it was possible that the metal had reacted to all the magic going on inside its borders.
Without Tianara there to watch the doors, Joshua would have to be careful. There was no guaranteeing, after all, when the mermen would or would not come back.

"No its okay, I can help. You're tired" he told her. He began to walk down the hall, "I'm going to bed, come on Mac".
Mac woke up, upright and awake, but still mentally tired. "Come on Aria, we're all going to bed" he looked in her direction.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... "Thanks Mike." Aria murmured tiredly. She followed the boys down the hall, stopping at the door to her room. She leaned against the doorframe, waiting until both Mac and Mike had disappeared into the guest room before she entered her own. Drowsily, she changed into a tank top and shorts for bed then collapsed onto her bed. She dragged the blankets around her and was quickly asleep.
Joshua was suspicious of the lack of heat, but it didn't stop him. Looking around on the seabed first, he pulled up a piece of metal that must have fallen off something else. It would do to prop the door open. He didn't want to rescue Nezik and Jinx only to be trapped with them. Tucking the piece under one arm, he grasped the door handle of the plane and pulled hard. The tiger that should be....isn't....

Mac took off his clothes until he was in his shirt and boxer briefs. Mike slept in nothing but shorts, and still did so here. Mac slipped into the covers ever so sluggishly. He didn't even move around to get comfy, he fell asleep instantly.

The door creaked ominously as it swung open - and a veritable mountain of junk came pouring out the door. Obviously, only the door had been holding it all up. The entire plane was full to brimming of sharp, splintery, or heavy-looking objects. Getting in would be hazardous, to say the least, and getting through probably close to impossible.
It looked as though they must have spent some time planning this - how else could so much stuff have gotten in there in such a short period of time? Getting enough out to get through would take a good deal of time, time that Joshua probably didn't have.
And with no one there to help him, it would just be more difficult.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Joshua jumped backwards as the mountain of junk poured out. With apparently no one around to see or hear him, he gave in to the urge to sigh and curse. "Stupid bloody junk. Who's idea was it anyways?" He growled to himself, propping open the door. This was going to take so much time and he wasn't sure he had time.
Rather spend anymore time grumbling, he set to work, trying to shift the junk. He misjudged his one move and received a small cut across his palm for his efforts. The cut brought another curse but it didn't stop him from working. He was getting anxious, feeling time ticking away. He had to get through to the pair. "Nezik? Jinx? Can you hear me?" He stretched out his mind as he worked, hoping for though not expecting a response. The tiger that should be....isn't....

There was no reply for several long minutes, only the creaking of the door as it shifted back and forth in the current. Apparently the prop was enough to keep it from swinging shut, but not enough to hold it entirely still. There was the occasional dull thump as something in the massive pile of stuff fell or shifted.
But finally, there was a reply. It was so mumbled and incoherent that no real words could even be made out, but it was a response. "Jshaaa? Whaasit? Satiuu?"

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Instead of being reassured by the contact, it only worried Joshua even more. Why was it so incoherent? He despretely hoped that the young pair were okay. "Hang on. I'm coming." He redoubled his efforts to clear a pathway through the junk. He was making progress but he had no idea how far back he had to go to find the others. All he could do was press on blindly, his only direction being the faint voice. "Are you both okay?" He tried to get the voice to keep speaking. It meant they were at least partially awake and not completely knocked out. The tiger that should be....isn't....

There was another long lag before a reply, but this time, the words were a little more understandable. "'Kay. Not both. Hurts." The conversation itself made no sense, but the words at least were actual words instead of jumbled syllables.
As Joshua sifted through the piles of stuff, he must have accidentally found the one item that most of the rest was resting on, as suddenly, with a thunderous roar, the whole mess shifted downwards. It was rather reminiscent of a dammed waterfall that has finally broken through the barrier. And it startled the voice exceedingly.
"Whassat?!"

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Joshua was relieved to hear the voice forming actual words rather that nonsensical mumblings. The relief was tampered with fear though, with the knowledge that at least one of the pair was hurt. He could only hope that he wasn't too late.....
He was forced to jump back to avoid being crushed as the wall suddenly exploded downwards. "I moved a bunch of junk. It all collapsed suddenly." He explained, trying to stay calm, though it was hard when his heart was hammering from the sudden shock of the shifting mess. He waited until the stuff had stopped moving and he could examine it again. 'Please don't tell me it just undid everything I worked on....' He pleaded to himself. The tiger that should be....isn't....

It hadn't. In fact, it had actually done a great deal more of the work for him. If he was very careful, he might be able to worm his way through the open area at the top of the plane, and find his way to Nezik and Jinx.
The voice seemed satisfied with his explanation, as shortly afterwards it fell silent. For a little while, anyway. Then it spoke up again, nervously, cautious. "Tia? Where's she?"
Nezik or Jinx, of course, had no way of knowing what had just occurred, and couldn't know they were just dumping salt into the wound.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Joshua breathed a sigh of relief when he saw the effect of the junk slid. He froze though, hearing the question. "Gone." He replied darkly. "She's not here." He tried to push the thought of Tianara from his mind, focusing instead on examining the open area at the top of the wall of stuff.
After a moment of looking and thinking, he decided that yes, he probably could get through the open section. Carefully, holding his breath for much of it, Joshua squeaked his way through. He looked back after he'd gotten through, making sure the wall didn't collapse again. Satisfied that it hadn't, he turned back again, swimming in the direction of the voice. The tiger that should be....isn't....

"Why?" the voice questioned, sounding surprised. There was a long silence, and Joshua might get the sense that his most recent memories were being...riffled, somehow, like a set of photographs being flipped through. Then the voice, much smaller now, whispered, "No." Just that. No more.
The sound of cracking from what had once been the tail area of the plane might catch the boy's attention, if he was listening. That was where the voice had been coming from, and the fold-in doors (that were, of course, now folded out and closed tightly) were creaking. It sounded like someone was trying to break them down.
