The Hero Of This Story

User Image

Name: N'il
Age: 65
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: Journeyman Architect
Physical Description: Standing at five foot eleven inches tall, N'il can seem slightly intimidating, even at the current age of 65. Still in his prime, N'il has a lean and muscular body that shows he has been a rider for a very long time. Bright blue eyes observe the areas around him at all times. His lips are normally formed into a neutral expression, though he does smile and enjoy laughing when he is spending time with his wingmates or even the various children he has fathered throughout the years. He has threadscore upon the left side of his lower face and onto his neck, as well as some on his chest and lower abdomen.

His light blond hair is always worn short and if it is longer then a buzz cut, he will normally slick it back with oil to make sure it stays out of the way. He dresses sensibly, never one for frivolous or ostentatious clothing. He'd rather wear clothing that will make a switch into his Rider leathers quicker, in case there is ever an emergency.
Personality: N'il can be a very tough man to nail down, if you are trying to figure him out. The man is humble to the core and never one to brag about his achievements over anyone else. If he manages to pull off a couple of nice moves during Threadfall, or his Wing manages to take out more Thread then any other, it was a team effort. He will take commendations from the higher ups, but is quick to speak favorably about others that he works with. No one person should get greater praise then the entire team, no matter what they do.

From an early age, N'il had a very logical mind, one that use turned towards the practical use of architecture. He has always been able to grasp concepts fairly quickly, able to work and stare at a problem and come up with a solution. While that cannot be the best way to work during the quickness of threadfall, N'il does have the ability to make quick decisions when push comes to shove. He doesn't really think with anything aside from what he sees and processes with his mind.

With that logical mind comes a very calm individual. It can be hard for anyone to get a rise out of N'il, especially if they are trying to goad him. That isn't to say that N'il won't lash out, he does have a breaking point just like anyone else, it just takes a bit longer for the fuse to burn. He is also pretty relatively calm under pressure and doesn't panic when there is danger involved. The years of being a dragonrider have helped to cultivate this.

While N'il is a logical mind, humble as well as a calm individual he is also very set in his ways. Once his mind is made up the man sticks to his guns no matter what. He would rather go down with his pride then change his mind on many things. The chance of you actually getting him to change his mind on a stance will be if you can show him proof that over turns his own.

His logical mind makes him not pay much attention to how his words or even actions can cut into others. He tends to say the things he thinks without running them through a filter or trying to figure out if what he says will bother anyone else. He just doesn't feel like he should tip-toe around others feelings and if they have a problem with what he said, they can speak up to him.

N'il has always been a judge of character. If that is a good thing or a bad depends on how he is judging you. Chances are that if you pull your own weight and do what you can to help the weyr, you are seen in a good light with the man. He doesn't bother showing if he is judging you, really you should expect everyone to be looking at you in some way and making decisions. He can be a bit judgmental about whites and tends to look down on them a bit, unless they have proven they can pull their weight.
Positive Trait List: Humble, Logical, Calm
Negative Trait List: Stubborn, Judgmental, Insensitive
History: Born at Telgar Hold, N'il began life like pretty much any other hold bred. There wasn't anything eventful that happened, his father tried to have him follow in his footsteps as a farmer, his mother just worked to raise his younger siblings. N'il worked and helped his father until he reached the age of ten when he decided that he didn't want to be a farmer like his father but to go into the smithcraft.

Entering the smithcraft hall, N'il soon proved he had a mind for architecture and chose the field he wanted when he was twelve turns old. A rift had formed between his father and him when he chose to become a smith. They didn't manage to reconcile until N'il was fifteen turns old and returned home for a visit and designed and built a new silo for his father.

At the age of twenty, N'il walked the tables and became a journeyman, he was transferred and worked at High Reaches Hold for a couple of turns before he found himself at High Reaches Weyr. The man stayed at the weyr, finding the military lifestyle that the riders followed appealing to his logical mind.

When he was twenty six turns old N'il had the opportunity to watch a hatching for the first time. He was curious about everything going on, watching as the candidates stood upon the sands waiting. It was obvious some of the younger ones, although they were glad of the chance to be there, were nervous about what could happen. He had heard stories of hatchlings killing candidates before they bonded to their own. The man had never thought of a chance to have a dragon of his own, never once even dreamed of it, he was happy working his mind to create new designs for buildings and equipment to make it work better.

Perhaps that is why it was such a surprise to N'il when a voice called out to him. It was soft and yet so energized as it called out again, causing the man to see a brown dragonet staring up at him with whirling rainbow eyes. MyN'il! Have you seen the stars at night? Stuck in that inky blackness? Oh, how I wish to reach for them, to fly as close as I can! N'il was stunned and it took a moment for the man to stand up, the dragonet calling out once more. Please N'il. Do not leave your Goferyrth waiting! Help me reach new heights that no dragon or man has ever gone! Let us take a small step to make a giant leap later! N'il found himself making a leap then, onto the sands and in front of the little brown.

Entering weyrlinghood was not strange for N'il, surprisingly. He was thrust into something he had never dreamed of and yet he took to it quickly. Goferyrth was hard to focus at times and the hatchling had to be dragged in from outside many times as he wanted to watch the stars as they made their journey through the sky.

He was lucky that he had managed to impress at High Reaches as his training was not subpar and he was prepared for Thread when it fell. He reached out to his family only to learn that they had not survived, forcing the man to find solace in Goferyrth and his home at the weyr.

Over the years, N'il and Goferyrth still work to fight Thread and reach greater heights. N'il has fathered many children over the years, from Goferyrth chasing Golds and Greens, always eager for a new adventure.

Here There Be Dragons

User Image
Name: Goferyrth
Age: 39
Color: Brown
Size: 42'
Physical Description: A light, almost ashy looking brown hide. Specks of light brown dust his body with other flecks of a richer brown along the bottoms of his legs.
Personality: Goferyrth is a dragon aching for the ability to fly higher and higher. Ever since the brown was a hatchling his eyes have always been upon the stars of the Pern sky, not only looking towards Rukbat, but just towards the emptiness that is space. He dreams to push himself higher and higher, to see just how far he can fly, wishing to touch the upper atmosphere and even, perhaps, the inky blackness of the space beyond, so like between and yet different at the same time.

While his dream and wish pushes him, Goferyrth has thrown himself full force into the fight against the enemy. He strives to prove himself and push himself in many ways, not only wanting to discover the unknown. He pushes his rider just as hard and they do tend to butt heads as N'il does his best to reign the brown in and focus upon the world around them and not just the stars in the sky.
