Casgar had watched so many children get injured on these Sands. He had even watched them die. But to watch someone he had known, someone he had cared about, cut down as though they were just so much meat... he...
Swallowing hard, Casgar scrubbed his face. "I'll be fine. I just need a moment. They were..." So much brighter, so much more than the splotch across the Sands. So vibrant and alive, and now covered by a sheet and no longer among the living. He was devastated. Utterly devastated.
"She'll be all right. She's smart." Smart, capable, and more than likely going to go far, if he was any judge. Tired and sad, Casgar nonetheless cuddled against his weyrmate and watched the proceedings. At least the babies seemed to have settled down. "So long as everyone gives the dragonets some room, I think they might be all right."

Nikal - 19, he/him
Feeling, huh. A lot of good feeling did now. If a stranger saw Nikal in that moment, there wouldn’t have been anything noticeably different: his expression was usually some flavor of grim or dour. His eyes kept going back to the Bone Egg green as she scouted, very little betraying he had anything but the usual interest in a dragonet until she turned to the healer tents. And then, for the briefest moment, something ice cold stabbed at the young man’s heart. Wouldn’t it be just be cruel if she...
But the new weyrling that walked away with her wasn’t Veikel. It stung a little less. Though, really, what had he expected from just the few encounters before today? He was pushing his own views out onto a newborn. It wasn’t fair to her. It wasn’t fair. Too bad feelings didn’t care about fair.
Nikal took a deep breath and sighed through his nose. “Really riveting answer. Always great talking to you, Aerdan,” he said dryly, watching a few males strut.
- - - Karunia - 20, she/her
“Name doesn’t ring a bell,” Karunia told the kid. “Could have you get looked at for that ankle and see if they’re there?” She assumed from the way Ruunan looked scared that this Rykin had been one of the guys hit by a green or brown earlier.
As far as if it got this bloody normally. “Weeeeeell...Depends?” That was a complicated answer, and Karunia didn’t do complicated unless it applied to inventions and their many moving parts. And those had an element of simple symmetry. Babies were...babies. Living, breathing, and complicated. “If this is your first time, don’t get too scared. They just had some sisterly fighting, that’s all! Things’re going smoothly.” You know, not counting the maiming and death!
Looking to Matotoka, who was probably way more aware of everything around them, she asked, “Status report?”
- - - Stormy - 19, she/her
If there was someone there for her then there was, and if there wasn’t then there wasn’t. Stormy was placid about her fate either way. But she nodded a little to show that she had heard Marinel, even if she didn’t hold the same blind optimism. It was just as nice to see the rainbows in the dragonets’ eyes when they did find their most perfect someone, enough that as she watched several more happen, her heart melted and her eyes pricked from secondhand emotion.
She tried to wipe them away as Keleres joined them, hoping no-one noticed. “Hey. Stardust miss you?” she asked softly. Starstorm certainly had kreeled at the initial separation, and she was sure to get a weepy and clingy firelizard after all was said and done.
A brown took notice of them, and Stormy wiggled a few fingers in greeting back. You're precious, she thought in agreement.
- - - Dhawsn - 29, he/him
He nodded. “Yeah, I remember that one...I been goin’ fer almost five turns now.” Neither long not short, with the end closing in. The only thing about that Dhawsn hadn’t made peace with was the idea that he wouldn’t be able to stand on the sands and watch his kids or friends. Maybe that was why he was so adamant about Serfie’s well-being in that moment.
Well, until one of the greens decided to play a game with them, and the girl (understandably) prized herself out from his hand to get away. Dhawsn stood his ground not out of bravery but because he couldn’t find it in himself to move out of the way in time, and if he accidentally fell onto the green, he’d hurt her and more than likely get hurt in turn. Here, being a heavyset man worked to his advantage: he got pushed and knocked by the dragonet’s energy, but he didn’t fall over. Some bruising and scratches were an acceptable trade off. “Whoa there!” Dhawsn said with an appeasing smile, hands up and out slightly. She reminded him of young runnerbeasts, fresh from the womb and kicking about in hours. At least Mystery Green didn’t buck.
Once freed from her attentions, he turned to check on Fisher and Serfie and saw that the former was already helping the latter up. Neither looked too banged up, though Serfie seemed to have a new cut. “Y’all alright?” Dhawsn asked nonetheless, because he was Dhawsn, and fussing made him feel like he was at least trying to help. He brought one of his better smiles out, trying to comfort the younger Western girl as he reached out to help dust her off. (Fisher, who has hefted her like nothing, probably wouldn’t appreciate something similar, though he was still tempted.) “S’okay, hun, she caught us by surprise.”
He turned to scan the crowd for Nonami again, frowning when he finally saw them. Hadn’t...But the woman was gone, off to join the rest with one of the twin golds. Xanael had filled the gap instead, and he sighed in relief. This was one rollercoaster of a Hatching to be sure. If another wave of violence and drama broke out, he wasn’t sure what he’d do.
(Well, no, that was a lie. Dhawsn would pick up the girls and Nonami to tote back to safety if that’s what needed to happen.)
“Yeah,” he said to Fisher, watching the babies go one by one now. “Orderly’s a nice change‘ve pace. This’s been pretty big too, with all them twins.”
- - - Pyper - 16, she/her
Pyper bobbed her head vaguely. Sure. Little steps. Yeah. Then the angry ones could hit a nice sitting crowd if it felt like, instead of the standing ones. She bit the inside of her lower lip and watched, trying to take solace in the fact that more and more babies searched rather than attacked. She had just...never seen so much blood come out of a person before like that. The image wanted to pin itself to her mind like her star pin did to her hair. She barely recognized Brenley’s awkward attempt to comfort her for what it was.
“Or go back to back,” Pyper said two beats later than she would have liked. Except that required moving, and she didn’t know if her legs would follow orders. The girl hadn’t so much as breathed when several dragons inspected them before. Now she took several deep breaths to try and get rid of the new knots inside.
“Does this stuff get easier the more you go? Ugh, I feel so stupid...”

The sudden pressure to Impress right then, along with the knowledge that Mom and Dad were fighting sent the little Gay Flag blue into a bit of a turmoil. Oh no! Oh no, what... what if he'd done wrong? What if he shouldn't have said anything? Was he bad?
Was he a bad baby, for wanting his Daddy near?
Curling up into the tiniest ball, he reached out to the only mind who knew, the only mind who understood!
HyserenMine, please... please find me. I'm lost, and I'm scared, and I don't know where you are! There were so many Candidates, but he couldn't find His! P-P-please, your Citrath needs you!

Xanael
"Oh don't worry about that, I'm just a beasthealer, what dragon wants that?" Xanael chuckled self-deprecatingly with a nod to their wound. "If you like, I can head over to the Healers with you, or carry you over there. You should get that looked at sooner rather than later so it heals without too much of a scar." Especially since the option was there. Maybe it was the fact that his twin was a Healer, but he'd constantly told Xan 'if you have the opportunity, use it'. Given his own tendencies to notice wounds he was just as bad himself most likely.
Still, he cast a glance about at all the baby dragons still out and about, more greens popping out of their shells even. More opportunities for the little one beside him, he hoped.

Kiri It took a moment, but the girl finally had no more tears. Felisath remained pressed tenderly against her, sharing the moment, supporting her with all the love and tenderness she could. She crooned softly, even as Kiri wiped at her eyes. She didn't care about the judgment, didn't care who saw her. This moment couldn't be ruined...wouldn't be.
She felt better. She felt... better than she had in a very, very, long time. Her parents, her brother, her Hold, her shipmates, her friends... Her grief had finally been unraveled, and the tangle that had weighed her hearts down no longer existed. She felt buoyant; happy; thrilled, even. All she saw was the most beautiful, most precious darling before her... and the love she felt for Felisath, the desire to protect, grew with every breath.
Finally, Aryale's words sunk in, and she tore her eyes away from her to look at Aryale. "Her name's Felisath," she spoke, grudgingly untangling herself and carefully pushing herself back to her feet. She brushed off the sand, and felt a great hunger grip her. Though the quiet little green didn't utter a word of complaint, the red that began to form in her eyes said it all. She wasn't angry--but she was hungry.
"Aryale I--I need to go, but I hope--" she hardly even knew what to say. The feeling was euphoric. But she was still practically speechless. All she could do was look back at Felisath, and the love in her eyes said it all.
But there was a change, and Kiri immediately bristled. Felisath turned, yellow entering her eyes as Teth moved. Confusion, not her own, played within her heart. ....is he...leaving? The smallest of creels. While she had found Hers, there was a newfound tension on the air,.
