I never really thought I had an accent until someone at college asked me if I was from the South because apparently they picked up on a Southern accent in my voice. I was like "I'm not... but my Dad's family technically is." So, now I am more aware of when my Southern heritage peeks its head out.
I do the same thing with my Scottish heritage. Sometimes it pops up randomly when I'm speaking.
