Uridith happened to glance up at just the right moment to spot a flicker of bronze through the twisting clouds of silver and near-rainbow of dragon bodies above. Her beloved Takarath, jaws wide to destroy thread with a lance of flame. He and his had made her and her Lestenna so very proud...Feeling renewed, the gold trumpeted, and once again set about charring any stray thread.

A tiny fleck of something—ash or thread or chipped stone, perhaps, fell as Thanoth rose, making her squeal and pop between when it caught against the side of her jaw. Not even a breath later they reappeared, tensed, but intact. What was it? Thanoth?

I'm not sure. It is gone now though...and it was nothing. I nearly lost a wing the last time, so some tiny speck? Pfft!

Round 1:
Roll 1: Encouragement Boon
Roll 2: -6 HP
Roll 3: -4
Roll 4: Critical Fail -12
Roll 5: Healers Roll: +12, can fly next round

Still with his back in the pools, D'ast rubbed his face and cast a glance over towards his wingleader, worried about him more than he was himself. He'd gotten wounded quickly and that had stressed some of the wing but it obviously wasn't his fault.

"Kids are still up there in the air, eh? How you doing Wingleader?" D'ast's voice rasped from where he was in the pool. If nothing else he was protective of his wing and of those riders younger than himself that flew beside him, not the least of which was his baby girl. That didn't mean anything for how he protected them all though as best he could.

To the side Zetigeth was already under the healer's care, relaxing relief spreading through him as he laid allowing them to work on him without a complaint, more worried for his rider than anything else. One of his big blue eyes watched as a healer drug his rider from the pools and began to work on his back, full trust radiating from him that they would care for him. They could get back up there, there was no doubt in his mind, they would be able to fly again and go to protect their wingmates. For now he gave a slight rumble as the healers began to dig thread from his rider's back, the pain that had begun to numb in his own back spread over him again and he sent reassurance towards the man with a croon. D'ast laughed softly and waved carefully at his dragon.

"It'll be okay, stop making that noise. We'll get back up there soon enough." D'ast told him and settled in for the pain of the thread being removed, not willing to flinch or react despite the slightly painful way it was being plucked from him. So many others were so much worse off.

Although Dr'stan needed S'del's cooperation, the rider was not important. He needed him to continue to reassure his dragon. He did not, however, particularly care, just now, about what the rider was going through. "That's not so bad," the dragonhealer assured the Bronze when the dragon lifted his head out of the water. "You won't lose the eye - it's just a bit scratched, if I'm not mistaken." He had to get up close to the Bronze, gently taking the dragon's head in his hands so that he could direct him to lower it. Doing so felt like holding on to a titan, but although the Bronze was hurt, he seemed biddable.

"This is going to hurt, Kindeth. I need you to be as brave as you can be, and I promise I will make the pain better. You just need to trust me. All right?" Cleaning the wounds was very important, and he got right to business, making short work of what, in less experienced hands, might have been a long process. He'd treated threadscores before, and although he didn't know this Bronze terribly well, from what Cynosuth had told him just now, he wasn't concerned that the large dragon would throw him off.

Many today have flown right into thread, Cynosuth said gently, giving Kindeth another croon of encouragement. It is not dumb, just an accident. You didn't mean to fly into it. The thread is being blown about on the wind today. Please don't think you did anything wrong. The little Green's heart ached to hear the pitiful Bronze speak of himself in such a manner, particularly when he was scored so badly! He was not the only one, nor would he be the only one.

in the end it wasn't thread that tested Krahsujunth the most...it was the wind. He was a huge blue, and bulky, and strong, but not even he could fight against wind that was threatening to topple bronzes and golds alike. He flapped furiously against the gale, snarling his displeasure, and V'rind winced to feel a twang of strain in one wing. Still, the blue regained his previous position, eyes turning more red than orange over the perceived failure. How did one fight the wind? You couldn't bite it, couldn't claw it, couldn't burn it. He felt helpless against, and it made him all the angrier.

Thank you, dear! Neiveth oozed affectionate warmth for Menankith as he and his lovely rider delivered on their needs, offering the young brown the equivalent of a blown-kiss across the mental connection before her attentions were stolen away by her first-and-best love.

G'lin attentively began to feed her firestone, shaking his head. A bad time, dear. he chided, though not harshly. She all but actually laughed at the thought.

Head submerged in the tub, Nachith borbled away as His tried to get ahold of himself. Receiving the well wishes of Devith, the blue's mood surged in spite of the pain amd his rider's panic, and he wrapped B'ram up in it to try to soothe him. You should come down, Mine. You will feel better on the ground.

Shakily, B'ram did as his dragon bid him, although his descent turned into more of a fall when he slipped halfway down and failed to catch himself. He laid there for a moment before slowly righting himself, moving with care so as no to worsen the spinning his head was already doing. By the time he was on his feet and leaning heavily against his dragon (waving away anyone who came to check himnfor physical injury, since he had none), Nachith had gingerly lifted his head from the tub for inspection and calmly received the Healers' treatment. The spectacular score to his head was cleaned and slathered - not quickly, per se, but thoroughly and efficiently.

It became apparent straightaway that, in the mess that was his face, the blue's right eye was done for, eaten away and damaged beyond repair, and it was the cleaning and treatment of that that would take the most time. Maybe, just maybe, it would be fully tended to in time for them to get back in the air before the Fall ended.

((I'm going to have them chill for the rest of Round 1+2 regardless of this roll - basically they'll be doing all the healing/recovery implied by it over the remainder of first wave - since Nach LOST AN EYE because I'm mean and B'ram is still freaking out.))

Nimueh scanned the skies, making sure to pinpoint each dragon of the wing, how they were handling the strong winds and insuring none of them had been unlucky enough to between straight out into a clump of thread. She had almost finished her head count when Mharlith suddenly tucked his wings close and made a dive forward.

Whoa whoa big guy, don't break formation.

But I can get that, it's so close. Can't let it get to the queens.

Of course he had spotted a particularly large clump of thread that had escaped from the upper tiers. He was bound and determined to make it his first catch.

Mharlith, no stop, it's already gone. We can't leave the wing!

Mharlith hesitated, every instinct battling against his riders common sense, but he did stop. Then he opened his jaws and flamed. Any normal flame would have fallen short, but this was fresh flame from a dragon bound to his purpose. It swallowed the silver parasite and turned it to ash.
Nimueh gaped.

I think that is the strongest flame you have ever produced. She told the brown unable to keep the pride from her tone.

Mharlith preened.

Alright, alright you great wherry, back up in line. We still have a job to do.

Nim returned to scanning her riders. Searching for weakness

Things were going...well, not smoothly. Several in the Queen's wing had been injured. The wings above were also taking their own hits. The weather was not cooperating with any of them and the thread was finding it's way through the ranks.

Turning to flame a small picee of thread that had gotten it's way through the ranks, Ephia was taken by surprise when she was buffeted in her precarious position. She struggled to right herself as she noted the wing was rising above and away from them. Don't loose formation, dearheart!

The wind is particularly tiresome today. Ariath responded as she built up strength in her wings. With several hard, well-timed flaps, the golden dragon managed to fight her way through the particular gust and rejoin the others. She slid back into formation with a smooth calmness that kept others from being alerted to their temporary trajectory.

Well done! EPhia leaned forward to caress the soft neck hide in appreciation.

Did you expect any less?

Ephia chuckled.

Ariath!

I see it. Turning on a wingtip, Ariath honed in on the silvery thread.

Ephia had her flamethrower at the ready and as they swooped in she took aim and...missed!! The silvery thread fell fast and far below them leaving the weyrwoman distraught that she'd missed her target.

You tried and the ground crews are out there. I am sure they will find it. All will be well. Ariath attempted to ease her rider as she rejoined the wing formation with several strong beats of her wings.

Ephia couldn't help feeling a built guilty that she'd let that piece past her though.

The wind tugged them at every direction and for once Sa’do was glad that he wasn’t sent to higher altitude at the get go but it did mean that the two of them would have to reserve their strength until they were needed. For now it was the matter of adjusting to the wind’s behavior and catching whatever thread had managed to get through.

”Over there.” The thought shared between them to the silvery clumps that were caught by a gust of wind, with a rumble in his chest the oversized bronze easily took care of them.
