As the wing transitioned to their final position in the high altitudes once more, the proliferation of Thread increased and Huarangith was forced to do some fancy flying to avoid Thread while everyone got into formation. Once in formation, the wing was able to make relatively effective sweeps and clean up after each other if someone missed some Thread, which was important, given how much of it there still was at this point in Fall.
Hang on! Huarangith advised R'bin as he tucked his wings and rolled out of the way of a few stray ribbons of Thread. He attempted to flame the thread he was avoiding, but his aim was laughably off, and R'bin actually did chuckle at him.
I'd like to see you do better, Huarangith responded without rancor.

Although he had not managed to effectively flame and roll, Huarangith turned undaunted toward the large swath of Thread heading toward him, his mouth slightly open as though panting. As the Thread drew within the outermost limits of his flame's reach, he exhaled a controlled fan of fire at it, surprising himself by how well the flame penetrated the sheet. Working quickly to swallow more firestone, he repeated the motion, sweeping his head back and forth until he ran out of Thread to scorch.
Nice job! R'bin congratulated him. I take back my laughter about the roll.
Huarangith rumbled in satisfaction and set to chewing more firestone in preparation to take on whatever Threadfall threw at him next. Meanwhile, R'bin took a moment to try to shift his jacket so that the gash made by Thread didn't line up quite so perfectly with the gash below it, letting in all the cold air. Bad enough to be Threadscored, but to be freezing as well made it all the more unpleasant.

What are you doing back there? Huarangith asked, catching sight of his rider's motions in his peripheral vision. You look like someone dropped a firelizard down your back.
Just trying not to freeze my nipples off, R'bin replied.
Hm... Huarangith replied absently, pausing to puff a flame at a clump of Thread. I didn't realize you needed those anyway.
Not for any sort of use, no. But I'd rather have them than not! R'bin answered. On your right, by the way.
Huarangith turned his head and coughed another gout of flame, enveloping the Thread R'bin had spotted for him. At the same time he managed to give R'bin a look which R'bin anthropomorphized into one of amusement, even though the brown dragon's face was not actually very expressive in the human manner.
Watch that bit! R'bin warned. A silvery tangle of Thread was about to pass below Huarangith's shoulder, which would soon place it too low for him or any other dragon in this wing to safely flame, leaving it to endanger one of the wings below. Huarangith ducked, twisted, and flamed.

Huarangith roared, vocalizing his startlement as a clump of Thread fell almost directly in front of his face. R'bin echoed his alarm with a garbled, "Waugh!"
The brown glowered fiercely at the silver enemy and prepared to flame as he felt the wind pushing against him, yet somehow moving the Thread away. He wasn't even sure how that could happen, but meteorological phenomena were not of any great interest to him at the moment. He was going to get the Thread.
Going Between, he warned moments before putting words into action.
R'bin barely had time to prepare for the jump, or to pick out likely coordinates for their arrival, but it turned out all right. He'd visualized well and they ended up within flaming range of the Thread Huarangith pursued with such determination. Then, with an almost off-handed huff of flame, Huarangith scorched the enemy to ash.

Even just a little bit out of formation, Thread seemed to be all over the place. Without the coverage of other dragons' flames, Huarangith and R'bin were at its mercy, stung painfully. Though myriad, the scores did not seem so bad until the pair fought back to their place in formation and had a little bit of time to take stock. Only then did it become apparent that they had both been buffeted worse than they'd thought.
Huarangith's brown hide was smeared with oozing green ichor from numerous shallow Threadscores and R'bin had somehow lost a glove and with it a fingernail, although fortunately not the fingertip. They agreed tacitly that they should hop between to make sure there was no surviving Thread attempting to worsen their injuries.
Do you think we should go to the healers? R'bin asked, eyeing his dragon's green-streaked hide.

Twisting and dancing around in the air, Diesteth and Nicara kept an eye on Flame's Fury, concern radiating from them despite themselves. It was a way to keep distracted, but Nicara had to focus.

Thread connected with her already severely damaged leg and she could just feel pain as they went Between to take it away. It wasn't going to stop her though. Wasn't going to keep her from fighting.

An uncommon noise from him, Diesteth roared loudly to get the attention from a wingrider, issuing the bark to let it go. And thank goodness they did.

The blue shook his head in pain sharply, Nicara flinching for him when she realized what had happened.
