I am the second coming... Daniel The Abyssal Daniel was a little surprised when she answered him in english, but he decided to just accept the convenience and not ask her how she learned it. A sly grin formed on his lips before he made his reply, "Hun, you're putting such a bad spin on this; These men were already scaring fish. As far as I'm concerned, all I did was I fed some of the more brazen creatures in these waters. They would be thanking me." He thought to her features, and his slight presumptions to her race, and continued, "Besides, aren't you a mermaid? You shouldn't be stressing yourself. Perhaps you have some shore to wash yourself up on to be kissed, or some magical kingdom to attend to, or perhaps just run about you merry, unburdened, unscar-" Daniel had to stop himself. Suddenly, his past was rushing on him and he was feeling heated. ...The heavens will bleed again.

((OOC: Sorry, sorry, sorry! Silent was unexpectedly...well, sort of expectedly, but not for this long...busy!))
Tianara watched Joshua with bated breath, looking between him and Kiro. Almost unconsciously, her fingers crossed. It had to work, it just had to! If Joshua couldn't come down into the water anymore...well, she'd never be able to figure out what to do on her own, and he probably wouldn't be too happy stranded on land either.
She followed him in after a few seconds. Diving under, she saw the smile and began to relax. But she wouldn't allow herself to hope until she heard it from him.
"Does it work?" she asked anxiously.
~
Citara's eyes flashed. "Why you--" she began heatedly, then took a breath and made herself calm down. "Don't try that with me," she said, a little more coldly than before if that were possible - but if looks could kill, Daniel would have been polluting the waters with his own corpse. "Don't think I don't recognize you. You're not of my clan, but I know the feel of a child raised by kin. And as such, you should know better than to rely on such human fairy tales."
Her gaze was cool, and every sentence bitten off sharply as she attempted to control her rising temper. "Fish that are frightened away by boats come back in minutes, perhaps an hour. Fish that are frightened away by blood and predators takes days, months to come back, especially if the corpses are eaten there. I may not be able to hunt in my home waters for years. That makes this my business, and far more important business than any shore or kingdom, even if we did do such things, as you well know we don't.

I am the second coming... Daniel the Abyssal "Mhm, sure. Why don't you try feeding off the predators? Look at yourself, you should be asserting your kind's place at the top of the food chain," Zeigal replied in a calm, 'I-should-know' attitude. He'd always felt that any seafolk was at the top of a foodchain, should they all be grouped together. Daniel began unconsciously fiddling his fingers around in the water. This mermaid was way too much of a stiffler. Okay, maybe she was right about him scaring fish away, but the sharks would find a way to feed and so could she and her family. "By the way, I'm Daniel, if you wanted to know. Learn it, you may have to use it in the future to..." Daniel had to cut himself off there, too. Possibly this mermaid doesn't know about his murderous past... And present... And most likely future. ...The heavens will bleed again.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... ((No worries, it happens to everyone. ^_^ ))
Joshua glanced at Tianara and grinned, nodding. "Everything is working perfectly!" He told her, clearly happy to be able to stay in the water. He continued to swim around in the cove for a little bit, checking the gauges every so often. Though the tank was old, it was working just fine.
After a little while of that, he paused and looked at Tianara. "Shall we go see Katalina?" He asked with a smile. He reached out his mind, seeking the mermaid. "Katalina? Where are you? Do you mind if we come? I mean, Tianara and myself. Maybe Kiro too." He explained, not thinking that the mermaid might wonder what Kiro was doing with them. The tiger that should be....isn't....

Tianara gave a long breath, paired with a bright smile. Relief seemed to radiate from her. "I-- Good. That's good," she decided. She joined him, wondering what he kept looking at the dials and needles for. After some thought, she figured she'd save the question for another time. At the moment, it didn't really matter. There'd always be another time.
Katalina looked up at Joshua's words and blinked. "I'm back at the coral, Joshua - with Nezik and Jinx. And no, you may not come," she told him, the teasing in her voice evident. "Honestly, Joshua, of course you can. You know you and Tianara are always welcome." Then she frowned. "Kiro? Why is Kiro with you? Is everything all right back there?"
~
Citara firmly resisted rolling her eyes. "Is this new since you left the waters, or were you always entirely oblivious?" demanded the young mermaid. "Humans are at the top of the food chain intelligence-wise, but they are still routinely eaten by creatures larger and stronger and more dangerous than they are." With a sigh, she wondered why humans always seemed to consider merfolk as indestructible just because they breathed underwater. Surely an ocean child ought to know better.
She held out slender arms, indicating herself. "This body is no different from a human body, and my tail is no different than a fish tail. And because it's no different, it bleeds and breaks just like anyone else's. Would you take on a group of predators alone with nothing but your hands?" She trailed off, frowned, then finished, "You know, if you weren't the sort of person to pollute the waters with an entire shipload of corpses."
When he gave her his name, she lifted a brow. "I didn't, actually, but good manners now dictate that I should tell you that my name is Citara."

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Joshua chuckled at the response he'd received. He had figured it would be okay but he liked to double check things. He swam towards the coral, gesturing at Tianara for her to come to. He paused long enough to glance back and see if Kiro was coming to. "Hmm? Oh, nothing's wrong. Not anymore. The storm battered up a bunch of my equipment, including the main piece - my tank. Tianara had an old one among her treasures and asked Kiro to bring it up for me." He explained easily. "Nothing to worry about. It's all sorted out now, until I can get into town and get a new tank." While this old one worked, Joshua would still rather get a new one. But this would do until he could. The tiger that should be....isn't....

I am the second coming... Daniel the Abyssal Again with doubt, the lack of pride. "I wouldn't call it obliviousness, more like... a different point of view," Good. She really didn't know anything about him. Anything he'd learned about the way things work in this world under the care of the sirens were quickly stamped out by life on his own. As he thought of his past, Daniel gazed blankly at the ship he'd just come from. Once out of the daze, he noticed that it sailing away... But could care less. It wasn't his, anyway.
"You're right. It is no different. Except you can breathe underwater, speak to a multitude of creatures, and become just like the humans if you learned to, granted for limited periods of time. What keeps you from being superior?" Daniel questioned, his tone sharp and accusing. "And, yes, maybe I would take on a group of predators bare handed. I'm not so sure of how stable I am these days..." He gestured in the direction of the corpses behind them, "As you can see".
As she mentioned her name, along with the snide remark, he offered a smile. "A pleasure to be speaking with you, Citara". ...The heavens will bleed again.

Tianara obediently followed, smiling a little bit as she watched Joshua go through the water. It was good to see that some of her old treasures had proven their use once again. Maybe she ought to go through them sometime, see what else she had that might be of use to them in the coming storm. She looked up, her mouth tightening.
The coming storm.
Pushing the thoughts aside, she swam alongside Joshua, headed for the reef.
Katalina laughed easily. "So the princess rescues her hero and all is well," she murmured. She made no attempt to explain herself - if Joshua didn't get the reference to old fairy tales, he wasn't as clever as she thought. "More seriously, I'm glad. That means you can stay with us while we figure out what we're going to do from here." She sighed. "We'll have to work out a battle plan soon, I'm afraid - we're getting rumors from the more distant clans of attacks by divers. It's possible they were cases of mistaken identity, but..." She trailed off.
~
Citara sighed irritably. "Yes, I can breathe underwater. So can you," she said pointedly. "With the proper equipment, so can any human. I can't speak to sea creatures any more than you can - they just tend to like merfolk more than humans because we're more like them than you are." She shrugged off the comment about shape-changing - she knew, even if he did not, the amount of power and control that it took to take human shape. Citara herself had been practicing it for over a century and a half and she still could not hold it for more than half a day.
Her lips twitched despite herself at his oddly formal response to her begrudging introduction. "No, it's not," she replied. "I'm attempting to make it quite a point, actually."
She noticed that the ship was beginning to float away, and knowing that he - Daniel - had noticed it as well, lifted a brow at him. "Your boat is running away," she informed him, just in case. "Oughtn't you to go catch it?"

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Joshua couldn't help but laugh at Katalina's comment. "I guess I don't make a very good hero, needing to be saved rather than doing the saving." He told her wryly. His amusement faded though when she continued on. A frown found it's way onto his face. "I was hoping for more time...." He said with a sigh. Well actually, he'd been hoping not to do this at all. But deep down he knew it was coming and he couldn't stop it. Only hope to lessen or redirect it's effects.
He swam to the coral, looking around for a few minutes before spotting Katalina. He gave a small wave and swam to her side. "So it's already starting then?" He asked, questing for details of what she'd heard. "Where were the attacks? That could be a vital piece of information." He knew certain countries were more likely to attack than others. The tiger that should be....isn't....

((OOC: I think that on the morrow we ought to introduce the twist I discussed with you, Lucky, if that's okay with you.))
Katalina smiled a little bit herself. "Say rather that you both make equally good heroes - you've both saved each other when you needed saving," she pointed out gently. She switched to regular speech when he came into the coral, smiling as Tianara came to join them.
"The attacks?" Katalina looked faraway for a few minutes. "Well, they were fairly far from here. I don't know the names of all the countries, you understand," she said apologetically.
She sighed. "Have you some sort of underwater...humans call it a...a nap? A map? I could probably pick it out that way."

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... ((The one about Tianara? Sounds good to me. Actually, I can lay the ground work to lead to that right now. But this is my last post for the night.))
Joshua shrugged his shoulders. He'd sort of expected that Katalina wouldn't be able to pinpoint the countries. While she knew a lot, she did live underwater.
At her question, he shook his head. "The only maps I have are of this immediate area." He looked thoughtful then sighed. "One more thing to add to our list. I'm sure I can find a map in town. And we need to know where theses attacks are. So we need to head to town, for a shopping day. There's several pieces of my equipment that I'd like to replace. And we need a map then and check the newspapers....." He trailed off, trying to compose a mental list of everything they needed and where all they needed to go. The tiger that should be....isn't....

I am the second coming... Daniel the Abyssal ((Great, I should only need one or two more posts to squeeze a little more info out of you XD)
Daniel shook his head, and grinned. "Sorry, I meant seafolk by creatures, not just marine animals... Or am I still wrong, and english is your second language?" He rushed the last part of his sentence sarcastically.
The way she replied to his greeting surprised him a little. The mermaid seemed to like a sense of formality, but Daniel supposed that it was wrongly placed. "And I was trying to be nice. I guess this just isn't the time for it." The half-siren stopped fiddling his hand in the water, and brought it above the surface to take a look at it. "How long must you lecture me? I'm going to prune..." Which probably wasn't true, since he'd never experienced that before. However, he did here alot around the humans and it just sort of... fell out.
As he spoke, Citara brought his ship to his attention once more, but he gave it the same shrug off that he did before. "Well, it's not really my boat, per say... Well, we're not too far from the dock, it might end up there anyway" Daniel splashed his hand pack in the water, and blinked as some of the water shot up onto his face. After using that hand to insure that his sheath hadn't come loose with all the swimming, Daniel looked towards Citara, hoping, though it was a crazy, unethical idea, that she'd invite him to her home. Shore was a ways away, and he was determined not to go after that boat. Besides, an empty, blood stained boat showing up at the dock, or anywhere in the ocean, would be a great story for the humans to tell. ...The heavens will bleed again.

((OOC: Sweet. Sorry for the delay.))
Katalina nodded. "I figured you might say that," she said resignedly. "Well, if someone can get some maps, I can probably pick out some places."
Tianara glanced over at Joshua. Oh, right. She'd forgotten that they had been planning to go into town anyway, since she apparently needed clothing and whatnot. The fact that Joshua needed to replace equipment and now they needed maps...well, that would just expedite it.
So she nodded, and turning to Kiro, she asked, "Will you be coming with us?"
Kiro was frowning. At his sister's words, he glanced up in surprise, smiled and tousled her long hair lightly. "No. I'm sure I'll be leaving you in very capable hands," he added with a glance at Joshua. "And I need to go home and pass this news on to the clan."
((OOC: Will post for Citara tomorrow - have to go to bed now.))
