I'zrin: Taken
Maestoth: Plotted

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Name: I'zrin
Age: 24 (08.03.3551)
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Flexible
Craft: a little of this, a little of that, none of it reputable
Rank: Weyrling
Location: High Reaches Weyr
Physical Description:
A little taller than his brother at 6'5", but also leaner, Ilzerin isn't entirely without muscle or strength, but will always be slim, and more agile than anything. He has a similarly pale complexion and gray eyes, but finer, more delicate features, and lighter hair that isn't always kept its natural color.

Personality:
An inconvenience and a disappointment to the people in his life from day one, rather than internalize that into low self-esteem, Ilzerin has raised himself above them all. They were all just fools, not seeing his potential or his abilities simply because he didn't fit the mold of what they wanted. There's certainly nothing at all wrong with him. So what if he's pretty? That's not a bad thing - quite the opposite, in fact! There's no fault in using his looks instead of his fists like some meat-headed brute.

With no one he could fully trust or rely on, he had no choice but to be independent, and would much rather think for himself and make his own decisions than allow them to be made for him. He has a rebellious streak and a nearly knee-jerk disrespect for most authority, and may allow it to fuel poor decisions. At least they're his. He is not without all sense, however - and is in fact quite clever when it suits him - so he doesn't flout every rule just for the sake of it, particularly when the end result would be physical harm or death. Under the right circumstances, he could develop a better respect for authority, or at least a less unhealthy relationship with it, but at this time, he still has an instinct to question or act out.

Often left to his own devices, Ilzerin is resourceful, and can make do with very little, though he of course prefers not to. Perhaps partly in response to having very little early in his life, he's very self-indulgent, and will 'treat' himself without hesitation to whatever pleasure is his flavor of the day. As a result, he has trouble holding on to his marks, and has occasionally found himself skirting trouble with the wrong sorts, but luckily he's quite good at charming or bartering his way out of it. He's resilient, after getting such a rough start in life, and can weather whatever comes his way, though not necessarily without complaint. He can endure a lot, but has had rather enough of that, thank you.

He can charm his way into fair-weather friends easily enough, but resists opening up, and is quick to bristle about insults or offenses, which he has a long memory for. He's a bit moody, and prone to fits of temper or sulking, and can be deliberately overdramatic. He would likely balk at any assertion that he might need or even want anyone, but in truth, capable as he is of being on his own, he does crave more. If someone did get through, he would be capable of deep affection, but could tend toward jealous or needy, and is not above emotional blackmail.

He has a very, very well-hidden soft spot for misfits or the downtrodden, but is unlikely to act directly or openly in aid or defense of them. Selflessness is not part of his image, and rather counterproductive to his own survival, besides. If he helps, he would prefer it be quietly and anonymously. Otherwise people might start to expect it of him, ugh.

Positive Trait List clever, resourceful, independent, resilient
Negative Trait List vain, self-indulgent, resentful, temperamental

History:
Born to a rather low-end brothel-worker in Nabol, Ilzerin was an unwelcome burden for his mother, who had just enough compunction not to sell or abandon him, though she regularly reminded him just how gracious that was of her. But even that only lasted so long, and once she'd well and truly tired of him, he was dumped on his mercenary father, for whom he was similarly inconvenient. Small, sickly, and the third son, Dezerin really had no use for him, and the responsibility for his care and upbringing was pushed onto Ilzerin's older half-brothers, who weren't keen on the duty, either. Any failings of his would be failings of theirs, and more than like taken out of their hides. They did do as was asked of them, but their resentment was clear, and though they never did him any real harm, they were often harsh and perhaps a bit rougher than necessary - but they were expected to turn him into a useful soldier somehow, and were still far kinder than their father. It didn't help that as he grew, he grew into fine features and a slim build, not at all suited for the work that was expected of him. Pretty was useless for a mercenary.

He became prone to acting out in an attempt to gain his father's attention, even if in a negative way, but it never seemed to work. He continued to be mostly ignored by the man. But then Dezerac was Searched, and Ilzerin was expected to shape up and pick up the slack. He did for awhile, half begrudgingly and half desperate for approval, but eventually that lackluster motivation wore off and he started to slack and act out again. His oldest brother, Mezrin, who'd always been the more tolerant of his siblings, lost more and more patience with him. Of course Dezerac had been the one Searched, he was obviously far better suited to the task of dragonriding, but it would have been better if it had been useless Ilzerin. Not that it was surprising that it wasn't.

Ilzerin had some consolation in that his brother failed to Impress, turn after turn, making him effectively just as useless. Then came the return of Thread, Mezrin died, and suddenly Ilzerin was the only son, which was not a welcome turn of events for anyone. He soon learned just how much his brothers had actually done for him; Dezerin hadn't ignored his failings and acting out, but had instead taken it out on his brothers, who'd been given responsibility for him. Rather than come to a new appreciation for them, however, he simply came to resent them for leaving and dying, respectively.

Rather than stay, as soon as the chance came, he left, hoping to disappear into the seedy recesses of Nabol, although making a living wouldn't come easy. He even tried pitfighting out of desperation, but he wasn't made for such rough, close-quarters combat, and though he had some skill at dirty fighting, he just wasn't built to take a beating (and he'd never actually liked such brutish pursuits in the first place). Ultimately, he fell into fixed fights, with a bit of whoring on the side, but with the latter more profitable, he was soon doing less and less fighting. He could do fairly well for himself, if he were better with money, but tends to spend it as he makes it.

When Searched, he accepted in small part for well-disguised spiteful reasons; he's heard by now that his brother finally Impressed, and to a bronze, but it took a move to backwards Western from the lofty standards of prestigious High Reaches. Ilzerin is certain he can and will do better.

Origin of Name: Maestoth, from Maestoso, one of the eight Lipizzan dynasties descended from the stallion of that name. Maestoso was foaled in 1773 to a Spanish dam by his Kladrub stallion father. His present day descendants all trace through Maestoso X, his several times great-grandson.

Inspiration: Lipizzan

The Lipizzan, or Lipizzaner (Croatian: Lipicanac, Czech: Lipicán, Hungarian: Lipicai, Italian: Lipizzano, Slovene: Lipicanec), is a breed of horse originating in Lipica in Slovenia. Established in 1580, the Lipica stud farm is the world's oldest continuously operating stud farm. It is also closely associated with the Spanish Riding School of Vienna, Austria, where they demonstrate the haute école or "high school" movements of classical dressage, including the highly controlled, stylized jumps and other movements known as the "airs above the ground." The horses at the Spanish Riding School are trained using traditional methods that date back hundreds of years, based on the principles of classical dressage.

The Lipizzan breed dates back to the 16th century, when it was developed with the support of the Habsburg nobility. The breed takes its name from one of the earliest stud farms established, located near the village of Lipica (spelled "Lipizza" in Italian), in modern-day Slovenia. The breed has been endangered numerous times by warfare sweeping Europe, including during the War of the First Coalition, World War I, and World War II. The rescue of the Lipizzans during World War II by American troops was made famous by the Disney movie Miracle of the White Stallions. The breed has also starred or played supporting roles in many movies, TV shows, books, and other media.

Today, eight stallions are recognized as the foundation bloodstock of the breed, all foaled the late 18th and early 19th centuries. All modern Lipizzans trace their bloodlines to these eight stallions, and all breeding stallions have included in their name the name of the foundation sire of their bloodline. Also classic mare lines are known, with up to 35 recognized by various breed registries. The majority of horses are registered through the member organizations of the Lipizzan International Federation, which covers almost 11,000 horses in 19 countries and at 9 state studs in Europe. Most Lipizzans reside in Europe, with smaller numbers in the Americas, Africa, and Australia. Generally gray in color, the Lipizzan is a muscular breed that matures slowly and is long-lived.

Personality: There is truly no stopping Maestoth, nor should anyone try. While he may not be a bronze, he is far better than one, in his personal view. Get to know him better and you may very well find yourself agreeing. He is a force to be reckoned with, and the worst part is that he knows it. Maestoth exudes an aura of competence and great strength of will. Very few would ever be able to convince him that they somehow outstrip him; indeed, it is difficult to imagine that any might, but if someone were to truly gain his respect, he might count them as close seconds. Perhaps.

As arrogant and vain as he is powerful, Maestoth knows that he is where it's at. Unfortunately, he's quite good at convincing others of this, and has no compunction against using every advantage he can to serve his own ends. Naturally he believes that he has the good of the Weyr in mind while pursuing his designs, but that is highly debatable. It will take a strong rider indeed to carrel him into becoming the workhorse he's capable of being. If he were to just apply that strength to the right cause, then he would become a great tool in the Weyr's hands. Whether that might come to pass will depend entirely on how his rider handles early interactions with him... and their own prowess.

One thing to be said in caution is that Maestoth has no respect for females of any species. He does not see why he should waste his time listening to them when they clearly are ruled by their desires. Of course, he will protect any ladies that he finds in a bad spot, as that fits into his own self image... and he does have a passing respect for the Weyrwoman and her queen. Other Golds don't draw him, nor do they bring about anything but the natural obeisance that dragons must necessarily feel toward queens. Truth be told, he is a little resentful of that, finding himself to be fully the equal of any such creature. Better than, in fact.

Alas that the world at large does not share his view on that score. He expects to be treated as the hero of every tale, and why shouldn't he be? There is no doubt that he is courageous, and determined. He is fully capable of being that hero, if only his rider might help to mold him into the role. Like all of dragonkind, he has a powerful hatred for Thread, and is chomping at the bit to destroy it. Maestoth is a natural leader, but whether he can convince others to follow him is another question entirely. He has a lot of learning to do, but has the makings of a great warrior.

Positive Traits: Intrepid, Powerful, Irrepressible
Negative Traits: Arrogant, Self-Serving, Sexist

Starry Night Egg: A large sized egg.

Adult Size: 84'
Physical Attributes: Enormously large for his color, Maestoth's build is far closer to that of a bronze than a brown. He lacks but four feet on the largest bronze size, in fact. Proportionate, but quite muscular and possessed of a wide wingspan, this brown is a force to be sure.

Additional Notes: Has a distinct preference for his own sex. May prefer bronzes in a love-hate sort of way. Also because proving himself dominant over one (or more) would please him to no end. However, when it comes to love he will take any color, so long as it begins with 'b'. Ladies need not apply. That won't stop him from catching a Queen if he feels it will gain him an advantage, however.

Impression Effect: No more will Ilzerin have to feel any jealousy, for Maestoth is all of the love he needs in his life. And, too, it will become ever easier to sway and influence others - while Maestoth may not exactly be charming, he is powerful, and will lend that sense of presence to his rider to boot. Who are those losers in Ilzerin's life who thought him nothing? They are nothing, and he need never think of them again if he chooses not to.

Why Me? Mainly due to the fact that Ilzerin pissed Maestoth off during the Touching. He became convinced that he need prove just how excellent and perfect that he is, as the other did not give him his proper due. This led to thinking overmuch about him, which is when he noticed that they had qualities that melded rather well together. They will be an incredibly vain pair, each convinced that they are no doubt the most perfect specimen. One thing that Maestoth appreciates about Ilzerin is his secret sympathy for the under dog. Although Maestoth does not consider himself an underdog, he certainly knows all too well the perfidy of metallics - bronzes in particular. Maestoth needs Ilzerin's charm and cleverness to soften some of his hard edges. With this brown's force behind him, the sky is the limit for Ilzerin... and perhaps Ilzrein will teach Maestoth just a bit of patience.
