When a cloud of thread smacked into their back, D'ein screamed and began to twist. It hadn't just hit them, the jump between hadn't done any good. Thread had slipped under the jacket and was burrowing straight into his back!

The giant bronze came back flaming, still tortured with pain all over himself and all over D'ein. There was nothing that they could do, so he forced himself against the winds to stay in position.

A clump of Thread catches you on your leg. You quickly hop Between, easing the sting of the burn. It hurts, but you're going to fight through the pain. Healers can wait. +1 Pain Resilience
Don't you feel better? R'bin asked Huarangith as they ascended. The dragon grunted.
The flight upward to reach their wing was fraught with risk as Thread flew about and flame lit the air. When a clump of Thread wrapped around Huarangith's newly-patched leg, though, the pair decided bilaterally that they would take the risk of going between to return to their formation, rather they fly to it. As an added bonus, the chill of between took away the discomfort. Or maybe that was the liberally applied numbweed.
We're going to have to be careful, R'bi reminded Huarangith. Just because things are numb doesn't mean they're not injured, or haven't gotten new injuries.
I know that, Huarangith replied. But I could have kept on. We've less than half an hour to go.

A large swath of Thread heads your way! Roll a D4 to see what happens! 2. If you're a green or blue under 30', you're able to successfully twist out of the way, flaming on the way down! You roar in triumph as you turn part of the sheet into harmless ash. +1 Agility If you're a blue 30' or larger, a brown, or a bronze, you're not able to get out harm's way and take a direct hit! Moderate Damage: -7 HP
As the pair reappeared among their wingmates a large swath of Thread headed for them. There was simply no time for Huarangith to maneuver out of harm's way, and so the dragon did his best to roll in such a way that his body shielded his rider's.
Feeling Huarangith's pain through their bond despite the numbweed, R'bin murmured, You didn't have to do that.
Of course I did, and I'll be all right, Huarangith replied. Let's get this over with. The end is in sight, is it not?
R'bin had to agree that it was, but he continued to worry about the brown dragon.

You mange to pull off a quick save with some fancy wing-work! Instead of getting hit by some stray strands, you're able to roll out of harm's way! While you weren't able to catch it, you're certain one of your wingmates will.
You worry unnecessarily, Huarangith grumbled as he rolled more successfully out of the way of a much smaller bunch of Thread.
I think you're too cavalier about your injuries, R'bin countered. Consider: if you were to fall from the sky, you'd probably land on me and then I would be a pancake. Of course, I could fly with you, then, since I'd be flat. You could just attach strings to my limbs and pull me along like a kite.
He sent Huarangith the accompanying mental image, since his bondmate was not overburdened with imagination and the dragon chuckled appreciatively, but behind the humor there was weariness. They were both tiring, despite the trip to see the healers. It would be a fine thing when Fall ended.

This was it, the final stretch. Both dragon and rider elected to put aside their conversation and to push through the last port of Threadfall.
Soon enough they would land and take stock of the damage done, personally and throughout the Weyr. Then R'bin would have to check on Eri and make sure the child had not been too terrified during Fall. He'd lived through enough of them that he shouldn't be, but R'bin still would have to check. It would mean leaving Huarangith in the hands of the healers on his own, which R'bin hated, but they had already discussed that this was how it had to be for his nephew's sake.
That was a problem for Future R'bin and Future Huarangith, however. Right now they were fully present and in-the-moment, fighting Thread in much the same way dragons and their human bonds had been doing so for centuries. Despite everything, that felt good.
2. A clump of Thread falls right before you! Unfortunately, the wind pushes you and the Thread away from one another. With determination, you fight the wind, trying valiantly to get to the great enemy! You hop Between, hoping to get closer, and flame the Threads that threaten to fall through! Roll a D4 to see if you successfully Between!

2. Success! You appear close to your target and are able to flame it down successfully! [+1 Between Accuracy]
It was the maneuver of a lifetime! T’rik didn’t think Kiyanarth would be able to handle it- and was already beginning to mentally guide his dragon into a better retreated position. The wind tugged at his wings, pulling at him.
Kiyanarth had other ideas. He leaned into the wind, Betweened, and appeared so close as to sear the Thread with one burst of controlled fire. That is how it is done, dear rider!
17. As you fly, you find that you're getting into a heavier patch of Thread ahead. You've got a bad feeling about this.... You warn one of your wingmates to let a patch go! Thankfully, they listen, and sure enough, the wind changes! It would have blown the pair right into the patch. As it stands, the wind blows the Thread back, and your wingmate are able to flame it down without injury. [+2 Instinct]
Kiyanarth’s instincts told him something was wrong- and he was right. As he called out in alarm, another wingmate narrowly avoided bad scoring, instead able to flame the clump of Thread. He kept his relief tightly locked within him.
8. You take a direct hit from Thread! The question is, where!? Roll a D4

Thread ate through his back leg and Kiyanarth let out an unPernly shriek, disappearing Between. Damned thing wanted my other leg! They don’t grow on trees!

He wouldn’t let Thread get the better of his wingmates- even if they should be more competent, really… As he called out once more, he was secretly glad to see them evade and flame. Ah! He should be Wingleader, really…
T’rik tapped his shoulder, smiling at his dragon’s newfound ambition. It was always good to dream.

The Thread tried to eat his other leg! He gave a rumbling growl, snapping at his front leg as he flickered Between once more.
Easy, dearest boy. We’ll get you looked at! They’ll need to check all of these wounds… you’ve been so brave.
