A strong gust of wind suddenly pushes you off course and right into a sliver of Thread! If you're a bronze or brown, you or your dragon take a scathing hit, unable to get out of the way. [Minor Damage -3 HP] If you're a blue or green, you wind up twisting easily out of the way, flaming it down successfully! [+1 Stamina]
But they had not prepared enough. Well. Not quite enough. The wind shifted so quickly that they missed the new length of Thread that blue into them and wrapped around the base of Kaloth's tail for a moment before the blinked away and froze it off, only to come back again.

Mereketh's squawk of pain was also full of indignation that after everything else, this would happen to him. H'sau flinched in response and apologized, but the damage was done and the little white was temporarily focused on the pain.

Despite the earlier mistake of biting his own tongue, Mereketh makes up for it a dramatic move that burns up a clump of Thread and spares another rider pair from a scoring. The little white doesn't do smug, really, but he certainly does look satisfied.

A clump was coming towards them and Gareth jumped between. Coming back out of between the most A'dras and Gareth could do was withstand the large sheet of Thread they had emerged into.

Gareth was quick to a bugle and a telepathic warning to one of the nearby wingmates. A'dras had sense a sudden change on the wind and was glad to see the wingmate moved out of the way and was able to take out the piece of Thread.

Now, they were moving up. I'ar took a deep breath as they ascended with the rest of their wing, a grim sort of certainty settling in his chest--high altitude was always the worst, and he was never sure he'd be quite ready for it. Rouleth was still feeling plenty confident, and the Brown's boisterous nature almost managed to lift I'ar's spirits--until a lash of thread struck them in the side, drawing a screech of pain from Rouleth before they slipped between to freeze it off. Halfway through. Just a little longer now, and they'd be fine, blood, ichor, and all.

One of the hardest parts of passing Y'qua and Heimdath as they rose to fight in the second part of the fall was that V'gar and Ngawanth could see what threadfall's effects had done to them and it hurt the both of them. It could have been that which made them distracted enough in the sky to get wrenched and thrown fully out of position upon getting into it in the first place.
Either way it didn't matter. Ngawanth gave it everything she had to get back into her position again but she was worn out just starting.

I'ar wasn't ready for this jump between to go like this. They'd gotten out of the way, thankfully, but--when they reappeared in the sky, he didn't have time to react before a cloud of silver draped over the both of them like a blanket, burning and burrowing into flesh and leathers with greedy abandon. Rouleth's wing would sport some new holes in the sails, and I'ar was pretty sure that he'd have to replace these leathers when they got back down, but they were still alive. That was all that mattered. Rou? I'ar didn't bother to hide the fear that had crept into his voice. Rouleth already knew it was there. A--Are you okay? I really...felt that one. You and me both. He gave a long hiss of pain, eyes whirling red. That one--got us pretty good, huh? Yeah. I-- It's still hurting. We'll be okay, Mine. I promise. We'll be alright.

Her eyes that normally danced multiple colors at once were solidly locked in gray. It wasn't because of the pain in her wings but it was because of the exhaustion.

They didn't have time to recover before another wall of thread slammed into them, another repeat of what they'd just experienced--I'ar sobbed outright, the sting of open wounds across his shoulders and neck making it hard for him to turn his head. Rouleth wasn't faring much better, either, and even his almost never-ending font of confidence was starting to run dry. Rou, I-- We're going back. I'm not-- We're not losing each other. We're going back. ...okay.
I'ar and Rouleth disappeared from the sky, slipping between to reappear in the Weyrbowl.
