![User Image](https://i.imgur.com/jdRgtZP.jpg) As much as he teased, he really was going to miss Abel. They only knew each other a little, but he would be impossible to forget. He couldn't imagine he would meet someone ever again the way he met Abel. Jakob teased him once more before turning towards him for a kiss. He soon felt the kiss returned to him and relaxed in his arms. He hoped that some day they could meet again.
After their heart felt conversation, Jakob spent the next several weeks invading Abel's space. He spent most days lounging in his bed, keeping his wound clean, and reading on his phone. The healing process was slow and tedious, but it couldn't be helped. He did his best not to be a burden and helped where he could. Little by little, he found himself able to move more freely. He still needed to be careful, but the wound had begun to scab over and was looking much better overall.
Halfway into his second month of staying with Abel, Jakob declared himself healthy enough to travel and make his grand escape. The whole time he was there he had been paying for his room by the week. He'd talked with the manager of the hotel and was able to have his card automatically billed so he wouldn't need to worry about it. The room had eaten quite a bit into his savings, but he didn't care. At least he wouldn't be losing all his valuables. He was sure if he had asked, Abel would have taken him to get his things, but he didn't want to bother him with such things. Besides, it seemed like a good idea to keep the room in case they both needed it. So far they had been lucky. He'd heard nothing about Cornelius or his cronies the entire time he was here. Perhaps it meant he had given up, or worse he was paying people to shut up about it. Nonetheless, it seemed like the perfect time to slink away while he had the chance.
Jakob had talked to Abel once again, just to let him know that he would be leaving to go back to his hotel. He felt bad for leaving him so suddenly, but it was something he knew was coming. On the day he left, Jakob gave him a hug and kiss goodbye. "Take care of yourself, and Kieran, too, if he ever decides to show back up." he said with a sad smile. Leaning up, he kissed the male one more time before descending the stairs and crossing the lawn to meet his cab. He sat back in his seat, and waved goodbye as they pulled away from the curb, heading down the street.
[[Okay before I write anymore is this too much?? Cause I can keep going on with this time skip if you want. I just felt I needed to stop myself and post something before I typed out four more paragraphs.]]

![User Image](https://i.imgur.com/jdRgtZP.jpg) Despite hearing nothing from Cornelius, he still didn't think it was safe to stick around. Sure he had gotten along well with Abel for the past month. But he knew it was time he stopped invading his space and being a burden to him. When his cab arrived, he said his goodbyes and slipped into the backseat. He waved goodbye and soon disappeared from sight.
Half an hour later, he arrived back to his hotel. Jakob made quick work of gathering his things and tossing out anything he no longer needed. Throwing on his backpack and grabbing his luggage, he made his way out of the room and down to the main office. There Jakob paid his fee and was able to check out of his room. Leaving the office, he walked a little ways before managing to hail yet another cab, this time for the airport. The ride over was long and tedious, he recalled all his times here and how much he would miss both Abel and Kieran. He almost wished he had asked him to drive him instead. But knew that such a sentimental goodbye was unnecessary. It was better they left things this way. Jakob sighed and tried not to feel too sad about it all. He was finally going home.
Two and a half years had passed since that day. Since then Jakob had reunited with his family and regaled them with all his "adventures" while living in America. He told them that he enjoyed Chicago so much that he decided to extend his stay, thus why he rarely called and never came back. But he was home now, home to his family, and home to the land he grew up in. He spent the first few weeks relearning where everything was and seeing what was new. And then another looking for a new place to settle down. In that time he had sent one text to Able to let him know he had landed safely.
The months passed uneventful. Jakob had gotten a new job as a waiter at a local pub. He spent most of his days at work and the nights wondering the local village. He had forgotten how peaceful it was here. There was hardly ever any reports of violent crime, no nightly rounds of gunfire. The first few days home had been quite the adjustment as he had been so used to the loud chaos of the American city. The longer time passed he started to relax. He felt as though leaving had been the best thing to do after all. Here he was another person. No mob stuff, no killing, and anything that seemed to have any connection to that old life, he kept his nose out of it. He was done with being a hired killer. He was never any good at it and he had somehow gotten away with it. He just needed to thank his lucky stars and continue with his life.
Months turned to a year, and one year became two. Jakob kept his job, he occasionally dated, and even kept in contact with Abel from time to time. He kept the conversations short and didn't ask for any information about Kieran or Cornelius. He didn't want to know. They were gone and so was he. Everything was right in the world.

In all the time he spent alone, he had not forgotten about his lost love. He hoped that Kieran was alright, wherever he was. He didn’t even know if he ever made it home. During his chats with Abel, it was one of the few things he would not allow himself to talk about. Anything else, sure. He didn’t mind telling him about his work, who he was seeing, or how he was spending his time. In return, Abel had given him a few insights to his own life but to a much lesser degree. He understood. Unlike himself, Abel was still very much apart of that old life. He didn’t ask and Abel didn’t say, but he had the feeling that things were not going so well as he hoped.
Jakob wasn’t blind to the crime that went on around here. He knew there were some local gangs and possibly even a local mob. But he did his best to keep his distance. He had no intention of returning to his former life. He was doing just fine waiting tables along with the occasional odd job to make up for any needed extra income. It may not have been as exciting, but it certainly beat getting beaten up and sliced open. His side had long since healed but left a terrible scar in place. Any time one of his dates asked about it, he often told them how he was involved in a freak car accident. It usually helped defer any follow up questions.
The months continued into the early of autumn. The air was starting to grow crisp and was often accompanied by a light rain. Jakob wished Abel was here to see this. He liked to think he might like it over here this time of year. He had asked him a couple of times if he would come and visit but there was always work to be done. With Kieran gone, he could only imagine how busy he must be. Jakob wondered if he had ever replaced him or simply accepted that he was on his own. He brushed the thoughts away before he could allow them to linger.
Despite the weather, the pub was packed. Jakob moved from table to table, refilling drinks, answering questions, giving out meals and tickets. In one corner of the room was a large television and a crowd sat around watching hockey. The crowd amused him as they hollered and cheered, occasionally cursing out the referee as though he were in the very room with them. With a tray full of mugs, Jakob walked over to the crowd and started passing around the drinks one by one. When he finished, he continued to his next table, introducing himself before pulling out a pen and note pad to take their order.
[[It’s good. I like the idea of him literally showing up out of nowhere. Let’s see how it plays out.]]

![User Image](https://i.imgur.com/jdRgtZP.jpg) He hadn’t seen or heard from Kieran since their last night together. In truth, he didn’t even know if he wanted to see him. Yes, he did think about. Nearly every day he wondered if he was alive, out there somewhere. He wanted to believe that he was enjoying himself, though that was probably a lie. Kieran was never Mr. Sunshine even when they were together and not fighting. He needed to stop thinking about him. It had been two years, their relationship was as dead and buried as his past life.
After dropping off the orders, Jakob came back to the bar to collect the drinks for another table. He heard the scrapping of a bar stool but thought nothing of it. People were always moving around in here. It wasn’t until he heard the slight commotion did he look up. He didn’t see much, just a few disgruntled people as a tall figure rudely pushed past them. He didn’t know why, he didn’t even get a good look, but the figure felt so familiar.
Before Jakob could think it over too much his name was called and he was ordered to hurry it up. He quickly grabbed the remaining items and went out once more to distribute the food and drinks. Jakob didn’t have the time to stand around wondering if the moment he started thinking about his ex-boyfriend his ghost just so happened to show up in his place of work. But he knew someone who did. Time zones be damned.
After dropping off the goods, Jakob moved to one of the tills at the bar. He pretended to be getting together a ticket and turned slightly as he pulled his phone out of his pocket. With a few taps of the screen, he pulled up thread of messages he and Abel had been sending each other. ”Is Kieran in Germany??” he asked bluntly.

![User Image](https://i.imgur.com/jdRgtZP.jpg) Pulling out his phone, he knew it was still early in Chicago. It was likely that Abel was asleep and wouldn’t text him back until this evening. But he didn’t want to wait, he needed to know. Was it really him? Sending his message, he was ordered to take out more food. While he walked through the pub with another full tray, his phone buzzed in his pocket. His heart fluttered. Oh god, this was it, moment of truth. Abel was either going to lie, tell him the truth, or to ******** off entirely.
Jakob dropped off the food to the correct table before scurrying back to the bar. Pulling out the device was a one worded message. He felt a mixture of anger and betrayal wash over him. But also some fear and sadness. He thought they were closer, that Abel would prepare him for such an emotional blow like this. ”Why?” he replied.
He couldn’t understand why now, after all this time. It wasn’t fair. Shoving his phone back into his pocket, Jakob needed to get back to work. The sports mob was still cheering in their corner and growing larger and rowdier by the minute. He couldn’t stand here feeling sorry for himself when there were things to be done.

![User Image](https://i.imgur.com/jdRgtZP.jpg) Whatever Abel had been planning, he knew it wasn't done to hurt him. And yet, it felt as though he had done exactly that. He thought by not talking about Kieran he'd made it clear that he was moving on. He had even told Abel about the people he'd seen, the guys he dated. Did that mean nothing to him? Pocketing the device, Jakob continued to work.
While he moved about the floor his head moved as though it was on a swivel, turning back and forth on the chance that Kieran might come back. Given his dramatic exit though, he doubted that. It was just like the last time they were together, he wanted to get as far away as possible. Taking a calming breath he didn't allow himself to think about that night. It was too painful and he wasn't about to cry at work.
The minutes passed before he got his next message. Jakob was in the middle of tending to six crowded tables so he didn't have the time to look. By the time he had finished taking everyone's order, his phone buzzed again. Sighing, he passed the orders off to the cooking staff before hiding by the till to check his phone.
Abel's first message was both concerning and heartbreaking. What exactly did Kieran do that someone like Abel couldn't even control him? Again, he glanced towards the door. Running a hand through his hair, he let out a low groan. "What does that even mean, his own good? Why can't you control him, or better yet why do you need to?...Look, whatever mob s**t he's got himself into it's his own fault. Remember, I'm out." Jakob sent the message and moved on to the next one.
He was surprised that Abel had kept their conversations a secret. Then again he didn't think he needed to because he believed that Abel still lived alone. He wondered what else Abel was hiding from him. Shaking his head, he knew that wasn't the point. "Well now might be a great time to fill him in cause I don't know what's going through his head. He flew out of here before I could even say anything." after sending his next text, he again got a few bills together for the finished customers and piled food on his tray for those still waiting. He really hoped Abel would talk to him. Cause this was too hard, he didn't want to be stuck in the middle.
