Kieza

Lightly, she stood up next to the boy, not paying attention to his reddened face, her attention turned upward as a bronze head was suddenly above them, and there... atop his great head, was a very small blue dragonet. "Look, look... have you ever seen such a sight?" She murmured to the boy, realizing she did not know his name. The sight was amusing compared to the horrifying events that transpired before. And as she watched, the sight of three other dragons traipsing through the group made her give a long held-in sigh of relief. The crazed bronze and the other fighters were finally Impressing. Finally.

Kieza was more than relieved, for she felt a new hope well in her chest as she stared at the other dragonets on the sand, the feeling renewed by the knowledge that perhaps she might be so lucky to be a match to the remainder. No, not the remainder, for they were just as important.

Alya

Such simple words... Alya found herself staring back at Lennik almost incredulously, a look of wonder spreading across her face. After a moment, she stepped to the side, having made up her mind she would no longer use him as a human shield. Her hand darted out, quick as a tunnel snake, to catch his and hold it tightly.

"She must be. Maybe the Hatching is what they both needed." She offered quietly, giving his hand a squeeze. The bronzes.... they'd moved off, each seeming to finally find the boys they needed. Thank Farnath for that.

--

Iathe

Digging her heels in, Iathe easily helped Roana to her feet. The girl's reassurances earned a slight frown, and she pointedly noted that the redhead seemed to be keeping her weight off her leg. Well. If she said she was fine, Iathe would believe her.... but she'd also would see to it that the wound would be treated. Later.

"Shards, he doesn't have any fear." She muttered to herself, watching as the blue ferociously attacked one of his bronze brothers. Both of them Impressed without much more drama, and she let out a slow breath of exasperation. Boys! Always trouble!

Roana's nudge made her glance--and Iathe surprised herself with a bark of laughter. "How did he even...?" She trailed off, shaking her head with amusement.

Farensil couldn't help smiling in some reminiscence at the scene atop Blundarth's broad head. She had to lean some to keep it in sight, but lean she did, with a chuckle. "They are somewhere, little one." she murmured under her breath, then shifted out from under Blundarth's wing to look over the sands and its new array of hatchlings. The Zombie still hadn't much moved from her little green side, and a few others were moving about. She chuckled softly, tilting her head at it. "Well, you're out already. You may as well look around, hmm?" The boys had silenced their quibble and either wandered off, or wandered onto, their apparent impressions. Even the savage little blue that finally fixed the fight seemed to have found someone to their taste!

It was strange, the way the dragonet's attention focused so keenly on Yevalee and then... rainbow eyes.

Rainbow eyes! An impression!

Oer offered his congratulations to his fellow candidate as they led their green away, then shifted his attention back to the dueling bronzes just as they impressed as well. And then a blue to that horribly injured boy on the stretcher. Things were definitely speeding up now!

He looked for cracking shells, listening for the hums and screeches of newly birthed hatchlings, but the remaining eggs stayed still. There were plenty of dragons on the sands, but the one that caught his eye first was the blue atop his father's head, the very worried little egg that seemed convinced someone was going to die. He surely would if he fell from up there.

Isilje

Oh good! When the two Bronze boys, of three she reminded herself, Impressed, she felt able to breathe again, settling to sit on the sands beside Lennik and the others with a smile. Alya and Rio seemed ok, and she was finally to where she could relax when Vampire Impressed as well. Several Greens and Blues yet remained, as well as a bronze and a brown. SO many little ones in the sand, and her mind could hardly keep up, especially with the heat of the air, and her fair skin beginning to pink. Ah well, she could tend to her skin later....she would be ok. "It's so good to see those three find Theirs. It makes things much easier- oh! Look at Vimiath!" Color was returning....the lovely Gold was darkening!

The world ceased turning. Time stood still. All thought froze, coalesced... into...

Illiandinth

Ah. Cesare took a breath, finding himself on his knees before that beautiful, ichor streaked hide.

Reborn. Baptized in the blood of those who had come before him, the Candidate--no, the rider-- stroked his fingers against his dragon's cheek. Mine. The weight of that possessive word would have driven him farther down if that were possible.

He closed his eyes, breathed in. Illiandinth turned into him, and they shared a moment of wordless love so profound that he could not express it. Could not begin to touch it. So, this monster was his? Well. Wasn't that amusing, in a way? Not what he had expected.

I could never have chosen another. There will be no other.

Lost in a trance, the newly minted C'sar opened his eyes once more to stare into that rainbow gaze, vaguely aware that Illiadinth's voice sounded much like his own, yet somehow deeper, even as a hatchling.

"Illiandinth," he said, testing the name on his tongue. What limit could there be to the heights that they could reach together? Nothing and no one would or could stand in their way.

Not even him, the Bronze dragonet said, and C'sar shook his head. "That's not under discussion." He felt a push from the dragon, and he pushed back, firm and sure. On that point he would not negotiate. Wicked beast.

Your wicked beast. And at those words, he felt that love anew, and a smile crossed his lips, happy and bright in a way that the weyrling never was. Together. Forever. Always.

Dolmar

Ow. The already-raging headache seemed to swell, growing to an impressive pressure. It reminded Dolmar of the bronze's jaws, but facing the other way about his skull, threatening to rupture out from the inside. Swelling, fit to burst.

Are you quite finished? Or do you still deny me?

The boy gasped as the pressure focused to a blinding point just behind his left eye.

You will be mine, Dolmar. Even if you are a fool for choosing him over me.

He forced his eyes open at the huff of breath rolling over his face from someone, or something. Whirling red eyes stared back, almost hue for hue with his own, bloodshot as they were.

Your Strigonth grows weary of the company that may be found upon these wretched sands. Do stop laying about half-dead.

A...blue? Strigonth? His tired brows furrowed, pinching most unbecomingly as the thought slowly trickled down into his rattled brain. But. My bronze...?

He nearly whited out as the blue hissed, and that pinprick of violent pain seemed to dig in even deeper. Ignorant fool! Such vicious brutality is beneath us both! You know this, and still you would cling to the idea of so false an idol? The blue was livid, but his would-be-rider's pain was not lost on him. It seemed, unfortunately, that his wretch of a brother had done a bit more work to his chosen rider than previously thought. He was stubborn, and haughty, and more foolish than any sensible dragon ever ought to want in a partner. The gloamy near-purple skin of the blue dulled, his eyes growing pale. Still he was to be rejected, for the ideals of an imbecile that he'd inanely fallen for the moment he felt his hand upon his egg's shell. The blue would accept his death with more grace than any squalling bronze could ever hope to muster, and Pern would be the less for his loss, and—

A firm, if weak hand clamped down around the blue's left headknob, yanking the face close, once again almost nose to nose with the prone boy. "Desist, Strigonth. My head is ringing enough without your flowery self-eulogy."

Dolmar levered himself up, slowly, and with clear effort. But he never released the blue, even as he staggered to his feet. Only then, with the tatters of his blood-stained robe pooling about his waist, looking more fit to be a match for Mummy than Vampire beneath a swath of bandages, did he release the dragonet.

"If you're quite finished, then?" He rasped, gesturing towards the exit.

With a thrill that quite overwhelmed the usually composed blue, his color came rushing back. You're going to look oafish if you fall. The blue seemed to consider, and then subtly pressed against his rider's side, enough to look only like a close new bond, and hopefully hide the very real support he was giving the battered teen. Dolmar of course said nothing by way of thanks...but they both knew he felt gratitude on some level that he would be able to leave the sands under more or less his own power. In the end, Demon hadn't quite managed to break him.

Only near the exit (some healthy time later, as even walking was hideously taxing) did the pair pause—the dragonet more reluctantly than the boy—to glance back. Where...? There. Shahera had Marinel well in hand...

Come along then. Before you fall and make stooges of us both. I am your focus, now.

Dolmar couldn't really argue with that.

~Haukai and blue Corymth~

Haukai heaved a huge sigh as she continued to work on Farallen. The fight between the two bronze dragonets had broken up, they and the little white had Impressed, Blundarth was carrying another blue around on his head (as Dolmar had so brilliantly observed), and things were slowly getting back to normal. Even poor gold Vimiath was looking better. With no more chaos on the sands (so far), she could concentrate on her patients.

"You've been a huge help," she said to K'gan. "Thank you for getting this kid over here so quickly. You probably helped save his life doing that."

Just then a beautiful blue walked elegantly up to Dolmar, and after some... discussion? Battle of wills? between the two, rainbows whirled in the dragonet's eyes. "Oh you have to be kidding me. He's got a concussion! Why couldn't you have Impressed him sooner?"

Haukai looked at Dolmar as he stood, and a wicked grin crossed her face. "Welcome to the Blue Club, Dolmar. Mind that head of yours and don't do anything too strenuous."

Shahera tensed as the bronze limped over. But it didn’t attack. Instead Cesare…what…um…k. Shahera watched Cesare and began slowly recalibrating her world with Demon, Ilaindinth, in it.

The rather uppity blue stopped a Dolmar, and Shahera’s attention shifted slightly. As the began to walk off together all she could think was “Ha! I was right.” followed by a slow, “well, s**t.”

K'gan and Singarth

K'gan set Farellen down so that Nora could work on him and moved to his head. He had head in cases like this it was important for the patient to remain awake till he was stabilized. So when he heard the candidate utter his name he did what he always did, made a joke of the whole thing. "The one and only. And your knight in shinning armor for today. I would be honored if the maiden would honor his hero with a kiss later, oh and a dance, Cause Nora and Haukai are gunna get you up and running again in no time," He prattled on even tough he knew a broken arm when he saw it, plus pern knew what other injuries there were.

He lifted his head briefly to his fellow blue rider. "Right Haukai, think we can get him tap dancing ready again in time for the gather?"

Kambri (W)

In the chaos Kambri had been trampled by the Frankenstein's Monster and still laid upon the sand. He would need to be treated for the scrapes much later, and would have multiple bruises, but at least everything seemed to be turning out okay? So many where impressing around him. He frowned for a few moments, feeling his own self misery imposing in upon the happiness of the day. Kambri closed his eyes and sighed. There was still a chance he could impress. He had to keep that at the forefront of his mind. Usually his own self-wallowing was done at home, or someplace he could be alone, but the longer he went without impressing the more it dug at him.

Kambri opened his eyes and sat up on his butt. Instead, his focus went outward to the happy pairs, and the remaining dragonets. His eyes tracked all of them. He really needed to find someone to cuddle with later. That usually helped him feel better--grounded him to the now. Despite his self-misery, he couldn't help but smile at the happy pairs he found.

~Ladellan~
(hereafter known as L'del)

Warily watching the combatants, Del wished that there was something more that he could do. But at this point, he knew that shielding the others and pulling them away when needed was the best help that he could offer. Balancing lightly on the balls of his feet in case he needed to move again, he ignored the pain in his arm, as well as his torn, sandy robe. Such things were trivial. They could be easily dealt with later.

Suddenly, a blue screamed and ran over to attack the Hunter. Well, shells! Why was every fardling hatchling set against the bronze? He could understand if they'd gone to stop the Demon bronze... but the Hunter? And yet, the white hatchling who the bronze one had helped to hatch had turned on him, and now this blue was attacking him as well!

It was a moment before Ladellan realized that the Demon bronze had finally stopped, and moved off. Up to more mischief? Carefully eyeing that one, he saw it once more approach someone and stop. This time, though, there was no attack. Perhaps...

A bugle from the Hunter hatchling drew his attention back, in time to see the dark bronze one step back and look around, the eyes changing color and whirling as they noted the destruction, the fallen...

And then, with a miserable wail, he practically flew...

The next thing Del knew, he was on his back, having once more been knocked down by this bronze. Only this time, he could hear him. I AM NOT A MONSTER! the dragon seemed to roar, hurt and angry that none seemed to understand, even as he mantled his wings over and around Del protectively. And then, quieter, his voice came again. Ladellan, Mine, am I so vicious a creature? Did I do wrong? the bronze cried. The emotional pain in his voice was obvious, as was the hurt as he continued. It was for the greater good! I only did it to save them from him. You believe your Helsinth, don't you? The worry embodied in that last line was accompanied by the bronze's eyes swiftly changing from a rainbow whirl to a more distressed yellow-white.

It was only as the Hunter... Helsinth... began to tremble that Ladellan realized that there were claws lightly dug into his shoulders. Drops of hot ichor fell from Helsinth's injuries, spattering Del's white robe and the sand around them. For a moment, they remained that way, as Del searched for something to say. Finally, he simply opened his heart and mind to the bronze, showing him in no uncertain terms that he fully understood. Privately, he was stunned, and rather surprised. He'd Impressed... and not just any dragon, but the most amazing bronze ever to be seen!

As his partner's understanding and acceptance poured into him, Helsinth's eyes slowed their frantic whirl, slowly settling to a calmer blue-purple as he gazed at the tall lad. Yes, he had known that this one was special! And all his! Joyously, he bugled, unaware of his claws ever so slightly digging deeper into his rider's shoulders and the top of his legs until the lad grimaced slightly. Oh! Sorry about that, the bronze apologized, his wings still half open as he moved to let L'del up again. L'del! Yes, a perfect name.

Gaining his feet, L'del took stock of Helsinth's injuries. A bite on his neck, another on his shoulder... neither looked bad. Another bite on the dragon's right foreleg that seemed to have come from the blue. A rip in the left wingsail, and two gouges on the right side concerned him more. A spot on his tail seemed to have been chewed on, and three claw marks to match his own barred his dragon's left forearm. Several other marks dotted the bronze's hind legs.

He looked like he'd been through a war.

A low rumble put paid to anything else, though, as Helsinth's stomach loudly protested its emptiness. "What d'you say we go find something to eat?" he offered, gesturing in the direction of where Helsinth's siblings were being led.

The bronze's eyes whirled a little faster, a hint of red creeping into the tone. Yes, let's! But not near that... that Monster, he added, his scorn for the Demon evident as they started towards his first meal.

Martirae

And it seemed now Dolmar - impressive enough to watch walk off the sands at all - was leaving with a blue. Had he not always dreamed of himself on a bronze? Marty would keep any amusement of that thought to herself. After all, in much less time than herself, he'd actually impressed. There was no envy to be had, however. She'd take only a perfect match for herself than anything subpar and forced for the sake of having one. If her high thoughts about the blue based on presence alone meant anything....

Well, she'd see first if the blue was as good up close as she'd suspected behind the scenes. In Western the two would likely end up going interesting places. None as interesting as her, but her goals weren't as laid out as the boy's had been. All this fire and burning force and all she wanted was to know where that traitor had gone. Not thru hearsay. With her own eyes. With her own ears.

After that, the entire world could be hers.

Now she took stock of what was still on the sands. Three blues, a brown, a bronze, and one, two, three...FOUR greens. Plus a few eggs still unhatched. Fascinating. Now who would be getting that bronze......him? No. Maybe him? Definitely. She'd see if she was right.

Yevalee

Yevalee walked to the table, wounded arm close to their side and while not dripping, still crusted with blood and wetness. Their clean hand rested on Gallath head, almost reassuring themselves that the dragonet was real under their hand and the beat of hunger enveloping, needy and narrow had a clear concise point and was not from them. Though the hunger was making them salivate slightly and it was a bit concerning that the meat looked … good.
Nope… not going there.

They sat down on the table and pulled a bucket with their good arm, hand and set it between their feet. They weren’t so gone to think grabbing raw bloody meat with their injured arm, hand, sound like a good idea.

Gallath plopped down at the table, eyes whirling and focused on the bucket of delicious smelling meat, ugh food and it was sooo close and when the first small handful of chunks was offered, she enveloped hand and all in her mouth and basically vacuumed the small chunks down, before licking the hand clean. Mmmh delicious. More. Please, please, pleaseeee.
