Candidate Aelyx : Western : She/Her

That poor sweet Green. Her hands gently folded as she stood by her new Sands companion. She wasn't any of the above, nor anything truly exciting, but she certainly hoped the little one would find what she was looking for. No, Aelyx was a Glasscrafter. Beastcraft was certainly fascinating though. All the strange and exciting things. Shifting on a foot, she let her toes grip at the sands in as she studied all the hatchlings on the sands again, smiling. It was back to a calm hatching...how nice...

Nashwa

As the babies made themselves busy Impressing and otherwise looking for Theirs, Nashwa was relieved that the conflict was behind them, at least for now, although there was something odd going on with the clutchfather. For a moment it almost looked like he was making to leave - would he really? Could he? That seemed...terribly improper, but she pushed away thoughts and judgements for now. This was neither the proper time nor place for assumptions or judgemental thinking.

A green asked if anyone was a pirate - one enthusiastic hand shot up, which Nashwa noted with interest - and then if anyone was a beastcrafter. Not me, love, sorry. Mostly cookcraft here.

... No, she'd been right the first time. Of that, she was now certain. It was just that... well, that powerful thought that...

Are you sure that you want to leave the Weyr? Is that really all that you can imagine, my Jacquol? the Gay Flag green asked, at last leaving her scrap of sand to go stand before the young woman who was now drooping. A pirate Jacquol might have been, but now she was going to be a dragonrider of Pern.

Staring up at the girl, the green shook her head. It's your choice, of course, but I thought... instead of just a pirate, you could be Mine? And oh, how bitter that thought was! That Jacquol wanted to leave the Weyr, leave her beloved family, and strike out somewhere else doing something that this green wouldn't have even thought of.

But... ... but...

If she must choose the Weyr or Jacquol, she supposed that Jacquol it must be. Even if that meant giving up everything that she loved. For she loved her with both hearts, and could never give her up. But perhaps... perhaps Jacquol wouldn't choose her.

Will you choose your Jubath? she asked plaintively, eyes gone grey with worry and grief. How terrible to have to make that choice! For Jubath could choose no one and nothing else. No matter how bright the future had seemed a moment before.

Solameya | She/Her | HRW

More impressions, greens, the other gold, the bronze. So many were still on the move, searching. At least at the moment, the carnage seemed to have stopped...for the time being. One little green seemed to be pondering her options. Maybe one particular set of hands had really left a mark on her but maybe exact details were fuzzy. You’ll get there. Nope, not a pirate or a beastcrafter here on my part. And she found hers, found what she was looking for. Excellent!

Rising back up to her full height, Solameya tipped her head at the little peek of a snout from within the Hot Pink 80s egg after its moving and shaking. A goopy baby? Another bronze biding their time? There were already two golds so it’d be absolutely crazy and, by her figuring, wholly unlikely for their to be a third. In your time.

Haizea | She/Her | Western

Haizea shook her head at the inquiring green’s questions. She scratched her head as she glanced around her fellow candidates, including those looking decently okay off with the healers. Who was she looking for? Maybe someone in the Stands? A couple of her siblings found theirs up there. Never mind! The little lady found her bondmate!

The impressions had driven the taste of sand from her mind and had her looking forward to seeing what the babies were going to do next. Such amazing Impressions so far.

VEIKEL

"Well, you - " Veikel's intent had been to dismiss Bekah entirely, seeing as she couldn't even do the basics that he'd need help with. For certain he'd be telling Tristram later about all of this, over some tea perhaps when the man was crying over the loss of life. Making his best friend angry was a fantastic way to help him move along from moping and sorrow. His sentence and thoughts however were cut off the moment he noticed his brother. His brother, and the green dragonet who was in front of him with rainbow eyes. The brother he'd been so worried for had Impressed and.

He didn't mean to, but a few tears streaked down his cheeks. Veikel exhaled - had he been holding his breath all along? - and a hand quickly moved up to cover his mouth and wipe away the wetness. No one needed to see this, least of all someone he was going to be schooling. Thankfully Rykin had passed out, or at least gotten into a state where his body just dropped him off. "Erg, uh." The man shook his head, cleared his throat, and smiled at Bekah. "You can help me by paying attention and watching what I do. I'll start the first few and show you how it's done, then I'll count on you for the smaller ones."

Oh, Faranth. Nikal had Impressed. Veikel was beyond happy.

Vosin/Gold Killakeeth
Thank you Ansheth.

Vosin leaned forward as the hatching picked up a bit of pace. Several dragons impressing close together. A beautiful pale green, the handsome stripped bronze, and the second stunning gold. She breathed a happy sigh.

A few eggs remained, and she watched them closely when Hot Pink 80s began to rock. There was a serious lack of blues among the hatchlings so far.

For Ansheth

Candidate Omurntas Western
Things had calmed down relatively. More dragonets were finding partners, leaving less bodies running around. That is until one of the greens asked a question. “Pirates?!” Omurntas, while soft, was angrily spoken. “Why would she want a pirate?”

He loathed pirates. His hold had been attacked by them a number of times as they tried to steal food or supplies. Omurntas turned his back to the green in question. If she wanted pirates then he wanted nothing to do with her. It was perhaps a bad time for his prejudice to get the better of him, but he couldn’t help it.

Candidate Aelyx : Western : She/Her

"...You're in the wrong place to be angry about that." Came her quiet response to his anger. A single dark brow raised over her odd eyes, amber and brown still on the dragons as the Green Impressed to Jaquol. Good, "Not all are as you think, nor are all as you've experienced. Not a reason for you to turn your back on a hatchling certainly." Shaking her head at Omurntas' behavior, Aelyx kept herself attentive. She certainly wouldn't judge a hatchling's choice...

He didn’t seem to have to worry anymore. After the rough and tumble dragonets had calmed, it was like an entirely different hatching. He gave Kel a smile. This wasn’t so bad. If they Impressed together, things would be wonderful. But how did he introduce Kel to Astri, anyway? What was Astri to him? She’d always been someone who teased him because she didn’t like D’mar. Now she was different. Or maybe he was seeing a different side of her.

“Astri’s a friend.” She had to be now, after the experiences the hatching had put them through. Right? How to define Kel. She was beyond friendship, she was everything. The right words wouldn’t come! Instead he gave Kel another smile.

“Looks like both golds are off the sands now. Maybe everyone else will shine.” That had been what that green had been upset about in the first place, hadn’t it? She’d impressed too.

Bukichi

Kiri... People were Impressing left and right, but he only had eyes for the soft, shy green that had emerged from the Daisy Egg. There was no questioning what had happened, not after the girl had fallen to her knees and embraced the small creature. Bukichi watched the scene with no small amount of awe. What must that be like, he wondered? To find your other half, to feel so... complete.

After she'd wished Aryale good luck, Bukichi stepped forward again, not bothering to hide his smile. "Congratulations," He offered, and his nod took in both her and the young dragon. A young dragon who suddenly had yellow eyes. He followed her gaze, and could only stare as it looked like the big brown was.... departing the sands? ...Maybe not. Aryale seemed to confirm it, as Teth settled right in front of the exit.

"With luck, we both might." He agreed, giving Aryale another companionable nudge with his shoulder. "Congratulations again, Kiri, Felisath. Don't worry about us."

They'd be fine. Maybe they'd be even more than fine, when the long night was over.

Aerden

"I enjoy talking to you, too." Aerden smiled faintly, not at all bothered by the sarcasm. And then... well, and then something happened that Aerden had been confident in all along. The green--that fierce creature that had stood up so proudly to her golden sisters--had come for Nikal.

Aerden could only watch with no small amount of joy as the young man walked away, no longer the black sheep of the family--but a dragonrider now. A man who knew his place, his purpose, at long last. What could be more satisfying than that?

--

Phryana of Gold Kleoth

She had known hunger before, but never quite so maddening as this. But despite the hunger that threatened to overwhelm all sense, Kleoth never lost her poise, delicately taking each piece of meat that Phryana carefully sliced and fed to her. Occasionally, the young queen twisted her head, pausing when her beloved siblings found their destined riders and came to join them. She bore no grudges for what had happened on the sands, and greeted each and every pair warmly, regardless if they had been there before her or not. Even her dearest twin had found Hers at last!

The first, of course, was the one who felt slighted by their hatching. Zhaoruith, I congratulate you on your most perfect rider. Forgive me, if you felt our hatching took away the glory of your own. There was simply no tolerating that cramped space any longer. There was real affection in her voice, not even stopping to consider the fact that her green sister may not have forgiven what had taken place only moments ago. But for their brother...

Maracajath. I am glad you've found Yours without trouble. Kleoth greeted, unable to completely hide her hurt even now. Her sweet brother--but he had chosen to stand against her... Phryana paused, stroking her dragon's neck to comfort her. He didn't do so to hurt you, my darling. Strange, honestly. She felt no need to lash out, no need to respond with cynicism... but perhaps it wasn't quite so strange, after all. Kleoth was clearly hurt deeply by this... and to hurt her Bonded was unthinkable.

Ah, but she turned to greet another of her sisters, not wanting to linger on Maracajath's betrayal. Miershoth, thank you for doing what you could to quell the upset. Yours seems like a strong young man! She sent a wave of warmth for her sister, then paused as Phryana gently encouraged her to eat a few more bites. She could eat and greet, as it were! Damisath, there is room for you and Your Xahteis here, if you'd like. How good of His to carry him so--not that Kleoth was surprised by any such thing. Her brother did lose interest quite easily...

But another of her brothers was approaching, and her welcoming was just as warm. Rubiginth! Have you asked Yours to relay the day in full detail just yet? Such an avid listener, Rubiginth was! No doubt he'd be able to relay it all perfectly, if he cared to do so.

Kleoth froze just before taking another bite, her eyes whirling yellow for a moment as she gave Hers a nudge. Quickly, Mine, quickly now. She immediately surged to her feet, ready to trot forth and make her way pair that was approaching slowly--and Phryana recognized the rider at once. That sweet, meek thing had found Theirs after all. The Healers must look at them, love. And you're hungry still. The queen stood in place for a moment, wanting nothing more than to rush out and help the pair... but acquiesced and neatly seated herself once more. Sweet Negoncath! Please come to us, once Yours has been tended to and you have been fed.

Ah, but here came another of her sisters, and with Hers in tow! Tecuanith, welcome. It mattered little to her that the green had been boldly standing up to her moments before, or even that she'd been struck twice. Tecuanith had done what she thought she must--and Kleoth was truly sorry that things had turned out the way they did. But they were all still here, proud and whole with their riders, and that was the most important thing. She loved her siblings deeply, and always would.

Oh! Oh, but where was Leoth? Because here came Ussurianth and His, as steady and calm as always. Hello, brother. Yes, best to leave him to Leoth, though her warm greeting reached out to embrace him as it had all the others.

Phryana for her part was quiet, focused on feeding her perfect queen even as she took note of each and every individual gathered here. She didn't know them--hardly surprising. But... these were people she would be working with now--people who might save her and Kleoth's life one day when they flew high above Pern. Yes. Came the fiercely passionate thought. Just as we will save them, when we are burning Thread from the sky. It has no place here, and never will.

Dhawsn - 29, he/him

“Ain’ a pirate, hun, but I know runnerbeasts,” Dhawsn told the green helpfully. To Fisher, he sheepishly added, “Though, uh, ain’ exactly, like, Hall trained or nothin’. Jus’ grew up around ‘em.”

He was over the moon for Nonami and couldn’t wait to meet the precious little one that had impressed to them (and also please someone look at their leg), but Serfie’s face was drawing his eye again. Dhawsn knew that look: a sort of hatching-specific fatigue that could settle in, whether it was from not finding a match or otherwise. She wasn’t fine, whatever she told him.

“Hey. We halfway there now,” Dhawsn told her gently, a hand to her back. “I think. ‘Less Killa hid some more babies,” he tried to joke, thinking of all the twins and possible eggs in he sand. “You got this. I know you do. Jus’ gotta take a deep breath n’ keep on. You wan’, I can talk away the silence f’that helps?”

Karunia - 20, she/her

“That’s sweet,” Karunia said to the no longer fallen candidate. “Silly, yeah, but sweet.” Because if a baby wanted you, violent or not, they were going to get to you regardless of who was around. She dusted her hands off. “You’re here, why not make the most of it and not be afraid? Babies are awesome! Anyway, Captain Karunia and Second Toto over here’ll be happy to stand by in case you get the jitters!”

Matotoka really did have the list, didn’t he! She only the realized how much was going on around them, and how much was still going. How exciting! She was sad she missed the opportunity to help a green out of the egg, but she was more than happy to point out the striped bronze that had pinned a new weyrling down. Seriously, she loved this batch’s energy and go-getting attitude!

Huarwar of Green Miershoth

Situated off the sands now, Huarwar had grabbed a knife and a bucket of meat to begin cutting up and feeding to his green. For a moment it couldn't help but still feel a bit surreal. Everything that had been going on, getting hurt and then seeing the candidate die had brought back bad memories and yet...now he felt a little silly for wanting to run.

It was very silly Huarwarmine. Miershoth was seated before him, watching as he cut the pieces of meat small enough for her to eat safely. Really you should not have doubted.. She snapped up at piece of meat and Huarwar smiled as he watched her. "Well, our short conversation at the touching didn't really give anything away."

I was the first one you touched. There was a pleased purr as she took the other offered piece of meat, though the happiness stopped as Miershoth turned her head to watch the on goings on the sand.

Her eyes whirled red as they found the form of her brown father. He was beginning to leave and her tail swished in a very unhappy fashion, causing obvious distress to one of her brothers. Selfish... Huarwar could feel the anger in her words though it did die down some as Teth decided to stay for the rest of the hatching.

Miershoth turned her back to the sands then, angrily grabbing another piece of meat as Huarwar looked over the candidates that were on the sands. He watched as new impressions made their way over to where they were all gathered and none of them were Aelyx. It was calm out there, he knew she would be alright but he couldn't help but worry.

Miershoth's teeth snapped against his fingers as she grabbed another piece of meat, reminding him to focus his attention back on her for the moment. This was going to certainly be a very interesting life now.

For her part, Miershoth was taking note of her siblings that were gathered, though she did not speak up to any of them. She watched as they all ate and were taken care of. Kleoth's voice had the green turn her head to look at the gold.

You do not need to thank me, Kleoth. Things were just getting quite out of hand. It didn't help that father was making it worse with his own problems. Again her tail flicked angrily for a moment though that gave way to pride as she sat up a bit straighter. He is quite strong. You will see that we will go far and protect our family.

Candy Cane Egg gave another twitch and another hard wobble. The egg finally fractured, but held, and it appeared it would need one more hard shove before it broke completely. Sure enough, the egg split vertically, and a blue dragon leapt out of the large pieces, capable, confident, and giving a bugle of success.

The main event was now here.

Eyes bright blue-green, oozing with nothing but confidence, the blue took a moment to stretch. This was his time to shine.

- - - -

The Nanner Brown who had been hissing and snarling over the fragments of its shell, though still red-eyed, and seemingly settled. Though there was a twinge of red irritability, the Candidates had well learned to give him his space. Still, the egg was in pieces, and though he nudged a few fragments together with his nose, he realized that there was no piecing his egg back together.

... Well. That left no choice then. He'd need to find a new place to call home.

Still baring his teeth at any who got too close to where his once-comfortable-egg-abode had been, the dragon took a few long moments to scratch at the ground around it. This was his. It still was his. It would always be his. And even though it was no more, and but a memory, it was and forever would be...his.

After he was satisfied, the brown began to pick his way through the crowd of Candidates.

- - - -
Teal and Yellow Spiral Egg suddenly began to wobble and shake. Back and forth, with sudden and intense desperation. Something wasn't right! With a large kick, a blue leg suddenly burst through the egg. A wing broke through next, followed by egg collapsing into a heap of shattered remnants. Ah-ha! Finally! It was time!

He crooned at Candy Cane Blue, who immediately turned and trotted over. Candy Cane removed a few errant shell remnants from his brother, and Teal and Yellow Spiral leaned into the preens ever-so-happily.

Candidate Omurntas Western
He glanced at Aelyx. “Clearly you’ve never been attacked by some.” Omurn shook his head. “Pirates are still just filthy pirates.” Though, he did wonder why the weyr had let one in and even onto the sands. Pish, Western clearly had some lack standards.

Thankfully the green in question quickly found her rider. Preferentially, he’d stay away from that pair. Omurn turned his attention back to the rest of the hatchlings. He hoped no one else wanted pirates. “Oh look, a blue. I think that’s only the third, no fourth one.” He commented to change the subject. A brown began making his way through the candidates too.

Sorsha -- Impression
The excitement of the Hatching quickly returned to Sorsha now that most of the mayhem seemed to be over. Bouncing on her toes on the hot sand, she watched Impression after Impression occur, and she was happy for each new pair that headed off to feed and oil and celebrate. There was no sense of jealousy at all, despite how much she wanted to be a dragonrider herself -- there was only joy. She'd been through this enough times to know that jealousy got one nowhere. Besides, she was bound to be the perfect fit for a dragon someday!

A tingle and a voice at the back of her head pulled Sorsha out of her happy reverie. Sorsha! Where are you hiding yourself? At first she thought it was her father Cortun's white Menyherth, but... no, the 'voice' was richer, more regal. Then it vibrated through her with a majestic rumble. Do come out so that your Leoth can join everyone at the feeding table! We have so much to discuss!

"Muh... my Leoth?" she said querulously, pushing her mane of red hair out of her face and looking around. A glint of bright gold caught her eye, moving through the other Candidates toward her. "What?"

The Candidates nearby parted, and a large golden head appeared in the gap, eyes whirling in all the colors of the rainbow as Sorsha found herself under the loving scrutiny of the little queen that had been fighting with the greens earlier. Oh there you are! Come along now, we mustn't keep everyone waiting!

"M- Me? You sure?" Yet the small redhead couldn't fight the sensation that rushed over her, a sensation of the strongest, purest love she had ever felt, a sensation of pure glorious joy yet regal composure. She gazed into those rainbow eyes, and knew that Leoth was hers and she was Leoth's and they would be together forever.

Yes, SorshaMine, I am sure, Leoth crooned, a touch of amusement in her words.

Hesitantly Sorsha reached out and touched the large dragonet's head, caressed the bright golden hide and the swirling marking on her cheek, tears welling up unbidden in her eyes. "Leoth..." She flung her arms around Leoth's neck and hugged her tightly, sobbing with joy. "You're perfect," she wept.

I know. Now we really must be on our way, love. I am hungry! And we can't keep my twin sister waiting for us!

Sorsha straighened and held Leoth's head in her hands, a happy smile on her freckled face. "Oh, of course!" Looking up into the stands, she spotted white Menyherth and Cortun, and she waved happily. She had done it! She had Impressed at last! Not only that, but she had Impressed the most beautiful, majestic, perfect gold that had ever been shelled in the history of Pern. She felt a new confidence surge through her, a sense of surety that everything she did from now on, every decision she would make, would be done and made with a split-second certainty that it was right.

Right now, though, there were no decisions to make, Right now was only about her Leoth. About them.

Candidate Aelyx : Western : She/Her

The young woman laughed, a soft snort as she covered her mouth with her fingers. Was this boy kidding? He had to be, "...You've CLEARLY not been in Western long. You poor dear." Her tone was dripping sarcasm, and amusement, lips quirked slightly as she crossed her arms over a flat chest. Changing the topic to the blues wouldn't change the fact that she couldn't help the protective surge she felt. Western was her HOME, and the Weyrwoman was who she was. No one would disparage that, "Buck up and learn to adjust, Omurntas. Welcome to Western."

However, her attentions were now on the Blues and Browns, as well as the other dragonets, "Yes. It's nice to see it. Precious little things, and look at the energy." They were so sweet.
