Lennik

o-Oh boy. Alya taking his hand was extremely unexpected and Lennik suddenly stiffened, shoulders rigid and awkward. If that didn't betray how little attention he usually gave and was given by a girl, he'd consider himself lucky. Still, he managed to offer up a smile, nodding.

"Yeah. It's like as soon as Vimiath started to brighten up that everything just kinda...got better." he nodded, certain that it was somehow all the work of Aunt Tally. With the two nasty bronzes off the sand, that left only a handful of dragons and a few even unhatched. "We're due another brown soon, I think," he said lowly enough that hopefully it wouldn't pressure an egg to hatch, "but I also think that bronze....is gonna be the last bronze we see too."

It was a gut feeling. He'd only seen 4 at max and that one had a gold too.

"Which one do you think will hatch or impress next?"

A soft rumble sounded from Blundarth's chest. Walking would be more difficult, but so long as he was very careful it would alright. They just might have to go slower than he would like to find his bonded. The bronze carefully positioned his legs beneath himself and began to move. Come along little ones, he spoke softly to any candidate or dragon taking solace in his shadow. We're taking this search on the move. He spared Banshee his usual loping gait, opting for smaller and more deliberate steps. Have you felt them before? The bronze questioned. Do you remember, when everyone came to visit you, were they there then? If they were then they were definitely on the sands. Maybe hidden, but definitely there.

Blundarth carefully made his way around the group of candidates, doing a loop of the sands. He passed the feeding benches, giving a soft and welcoming rumble to his impressed children and their rider. He reached out a warm mental embrace to each human and dragon. All of them, no matter their actions so far. Welcoming each one to his family and showing his support, with the assurance that once their blue brother was safely in his riders' arms he would greet them properly.

The bronze came alongside Vimiath, they must have looked quite the pair with their passengers. A deep croon was offered to the gold. He would nuzzle her, but someone was already taking that spot he was afraid. The bronze turned his gaze to the gaggle of youths on the sands. Candidates, he broadcast across the sands. If you could all just look here a moment. Worth another shot it seemed. He held Banshee high, the highest point on the sands. There was surely nobody in the cavern he could not see from here. Blundarth did not even entertain the idea that Banshee did not have someone. He was not alone. Never alone. Even if Blundarth had to carry the blue across the entirety of Pern he would do so. He said he would protect them until the end and he would do so.

Farinalgo (HR)

Farin had been among those who cried in the aftermath of the battering of the white dragonet. He’d stood straight and tall with his head tilted back, keeping the tears pooled until they drained back into his eyes. Then, a sniff, a clearing of his throat, and he was done. But he would never forget the anguish he’d felt, nor the relief that made his entire body droop when the tiny creature Impressed and was whisked away to the healers. In that little white, he’d seen his brother’s Viyanakerth, whom he did not meet until the dragon was full grown. He now understood, in a small way, the struggle A’myl and Vee had gone through for their first turns together, and why A’myl was so fiercely protective of his lifemate.

If you can hear me, Vee, tell A’myl I’m sorry.

Sorry? Whatever for?

Just… We’ll talk later, all right?

FREE!

Glorying, exalting in her newfound freedom, the exuberant Goblin began to chase about the sands with a manic fever. Yes, yes, yes! PLAY! PLAY! PLAY!

PLAAAAY!

She nipped playfully at heels, and danced between Candidates, nuzzling here, tugging at robes there. PLAY! OH JOY! Oh, the MOST joyous!

Freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

After some further excitement and a few Impressions, Harol found himself breathing somewhat easier. The fighting bronzes, brown, and bossy blue had found theirs and made their ways off. That was good. No one had died. He didn’t let himself add the yet that was wanting to tack itself on. After ascertaining that Adar was okay and generally unscathed, his attention was diverted to the sweet spectacle of the little blue riding his sire’s great head, apparently needing a better view. That was precious. What a good dad. Good luck to Banshee. There were still a couple eggs that hadn’t made the scene yet. Hopefully they’d be a bit more...mellow than some of their clutch siblings. Harol sighed, finally resting a hand on his lap while the other was placed on his heart. Crisis avoided.

Alya

"Another brown...." She murmured, uncertain if that would tip the scales in her favor, or not. Lennik knew much more about dragons than she, so she believed him when he spoke about the bronzes. Dark eyes turned thoughtfully on the remaining hatchlings, studying them.... and then, without warning, one of the greens shot forward like a bolt of lightning.

Alya cried out with both surprise and delight at her antics, unable to help a laugh. "Maybe her!" She pointed, absolutely enamored with the unbridled enthusiasm of the young dragon. "Or maybe.... him?" She pointed to the blue that had burst from the Frankenstein egg, her head tilted curiously.

If Lennik hoped to get his hand back, he was sadly mistaken.

Damon danced firward when the little green nipped playfully at his heels and those of the candidates around him. "Finally some joy at this somber gathering, did you see her?" He grinned at Vari.

Vimiath

Yes, the golden one was beginning to feel more like herself. Banshee’s wave of love was returned with a burst that could only be described as a minor explosion of tender affection. And as Blundarth came to stand beside her… her eyes flashed a deep violet. This bronze had remained by her side, a strong provider and supporter, pouring out love upon her even when she was all but ignoring him in her pain. Oh—!

Yes, that meat he had provided was still laying out around her, on the mats! She turned and found one close by. Yes! Her favorite, an all-black caprine. She leaned down slowly so that Akaris would not fall, and secured the carcass between her jaws—

Candidates. If you could all just look here a moment.

—and she flung her head back, gulping the caprine down her gullet like a seawherry swallowing a fish. AHHHHHH. Yes, another! She would have another!

Her dear daughter Gallath might have been stirring her hunger, but she wasn’t too concerned. It had been at least a sevenday since she’d last eaten, after all! And her dearest! Was coming! She was almost here!

~Ryala~

Watching as a few more Impressions were made, including the two bronzes who had fought for so long, Ryala looked around. So few eggs left! Although, there were still some hatchlings wandering about, like a green who seemed rather happy and playful. Still, these little ones seemed to play rough...

A sudden call in her mind drew her attention. Turnung, she saw Blundarth, with... with a blue hatchling riding on his head? Hmm, maybe the blue was having some trouble. She rather hoped not. He seemed like a charming fellow.

"Sounds good to me," Rio replied with the barest ghost of a chuckle. 'As brave as I have to be' worked for him, as it had in the past, although fortunately for them both the situation finally, finally resolved itself as the main players Impressed. The Trader breathed out a sigh of relief, and a real smile found its way out again. "Thank Faranth for that." The brave little white would survive - he had to, now that he'd Impressed - and the bronzes would no longer be able to hurt any Candidates, at least. Well, those two bronzes.

Lennik called their attention to Vimiath, and Rio's smile grew. "She does look better!" He supposed it could be a trick of the light, or wishful thinking, but he preferred to believe that yes, the gold was looking better. It was enough to make him stand a little straighter, a little happier, next to his new friends. He wouldn't mind a hand to hold, too, but. Well. He was just that touchy-feely. He clasped his hands behind his back instead, rocking back on his feet. "After what the first two bronzes were like, I don't think I mind if the third is the last one."

Not that he was a bronze sort of guy, anyway, by his own estimation. He liked himself just fine, but didn't have any illusions about his own importance. "I'm surprised the bright green egg hasn't hatched yet, the one that liked the little black egg."

The dragonet from which was still running about somewhere. Where had she gotten to? He didn't have much time to wonder, or to laugh at the playful Goblin, because Blundarth wanted their attention. Rio looked up at the blue being held aloft by its father, and smiled. "Now that's cute."

Kambri

He turned his head from where he had been focusing on the other candidates to the blue that was being held aloft by the bronze dragon. He briefly let his eyes flick from the blue and bronze dragons to the green he had left earlier. He laughed as he looked upon her small form playing in the back. He really hoped she took his advice to move away from the injured but, there wasn't much he could do. Kambri tried to raise up onto his feet and struggled. Had he hit his head when he fell? It seemed likely. Kambri placed his hands on his knees to brace himself and then turned his attention once more to blue and bronze dragons.

Goblin's rampage had the small girl back to her feet, watching them stumbling around and tossing herself up and about in the sands. Well, at least she could play now. That was lovely...and then there was tiny Banshee. The blue on his father's head got a big smile, eyes sparkling as her eyes followed. Such a good Blue. So sweet. "Now that the two angry ones are gone, it's all kind of sweet."

Covered in oil well past her wrists, inexplicably, Amra was doing her best to pay attention to her lovely green as chaos continued to ensue out on the sands. She was distracted for certain, but she was quite amused with all the Impressions and how could she not be? Dolmar, who had wished for nothing so short of a bronze dragonet had Impressed to a blue, Seirath had bugled brightly when one of her green sisters chose Yevalee as her partner, and the brilliant white hatchling had survived despite the severity of it's wounds. So many things were happening at once that she was afraid to miss just one moment of it and lose the precious information.

Her insistent green had... other ideas.

Amramine, do not worry about who those brutes Impressed to, surely they are most garish. What a fiasco they have made of this wonderous debut. Sisters of mine are still on the sands, they still have many choices to make.

Certainly it was an interesting night and Seirath was just as interested in the happenings as her new rider, but the hands rubbing oil onto her soft skin were much more wonderful than she had believed. Not exhausted by any means, but also not as lively as she had been when she first exited her shell, the small green could feel the warmth of food in her belly and the gentle hands on her pulling her towards sleep.

"You should wait for sleep until your beloved sisters Impress beautiful, would you want to miss something so wonderful?" It had been the best thing to happen in her life, far above the first day she joined the Courtesan Hall, well past the day she walked the tables to Journeyman. It would be most interesting to see how this development would affect the ways she interacted with her Room, given that there was a being who now spoke directly into her mind and with such a sweet voice!

Head snapping up to look at Vimiath, both the tall girl and her small dragon watched her devour the offerings once left to rot as if they were the first things she'd eaten in forever. Releasing a brilliant trilling trumpet, Seirath wriggled her body and fluttered her wings in happiness to see her mother's spirit return.

Mother! You've begun to brighten!

Onasta & Jibasth/Nicara & Diesteth

The squeeze of a friend's hand pulled her back into herself and finally Nicara felt as though she weren't being pulled in four different directions by four different dragons, a feeling that she wasn't quite so fond of. Yes, Diesteth was quite correct when he said that her fear was unneccesary but that did little to keep her from feeling it all the same for the two young women she had brought into this bloodbath. How they would fare would play a large part in what happened next, though her memory of Roana's tales of dragons eating people and the destruction that came from being anywhere near them seemed... almost a valid concern? At least currently.

Blue eyes watched Ryala run across the sands to the little white dragon that had been tossed aside so callously by it's larger brother and she felt a softness creep into her heart until a creeling shriek erupted from beside her head. Diesteth's eyes were swirling a violent red and orange color as he saw Roana pulled from her feet to her back, though he saw no blood he lashed his large tail and tried to keep his irritation from erupting into a roar of anger.

Leave that one be!

Thos were the only words that he could manage to get out before Jibasth wrapped one huge wing around him and hummed at him loudly. The seething blue dragon took deep breaths to calm himself as one of the larger browns on either side of him attempted to calm him to no avail. He had chosen that candidate and though his job was done he was not about to watch her be mauled. Jibasth hummed louder still and offered a chuckle for his friend.

You speak of taking things too far, maybe you should take your own advice! Vorzeth, have you ever seen such a face on this one?

The mellow voice the brown offered to both Diesteth and Vorzeth did nothing to truly calm him but he at least made a valient effort to rein in his anger lest his now shaking rider be further concerned. Nicara had squeezed Yarala's hand a bit more than she had previously intended to but she released a deep sigh as both battling bronze dragons finally impressed. Roana was up, the worst of the violence would surely be over now, after all the only violent dragon left on the sands was the one that had scraped her up so badly. At least from what she could tell, the jubilant green was not a real threat so much as a mischevious nuisance.

"The little monsters impressed, thank Faranth." Nicara whispered, all but leaning into Yarala in relief as she did so.

"OH! It looks like Vimiath is coming back to us!" Onasta crowed happily and slapped Jibasth's leg.

Farensil had moved so the Bronze could be secure he wouldn't step on her, at least, and let him move off. She had stood enough hatchings to believe herself capable of... mostly... dodging most of the 'normal' hatchling antics. Still she stuck close, but no longer beneath him. She'd been about to coo another little message at the Zombie, when the bronze behind her demanded attention, and she gave it, peering up at him and his little blue sportscap.

This was...well. This was a thing.

A mere few sevendays after having the worst day of her life, Akaris was having the weirdest. If all of this didn't feel so real, from the weight of fear still stubbornly settled in the pit of her stomach to the peculiar texture of the dragon's hide beneath her hands, she would have sworn this had to be a dream, because it was absurd. She had gone from standing at the edge of the Sands with not only the Candidatemaster, but the Weyrleader, to sitting atop not just a Queen that most certainly wasn't hers, but was Vimiath. Who she was not not afraid of, but it was hard to get any safer, at least as far as being above any hatchlings' ability to do her harm if they were so inclined, and hard to get a better view. (Or be more likely to be seen, in turn. The young woman sat up straight, carefully brushed a hand under her eyes in case there was any lingering dampness, and pushed an out-of-place strand of hair back where it belonged.)

And then Vimiath chose that time to...eat a caprine. Just leaned down, scooped one up in her jaws - Akaris winced - and tossed it back. Oh, that was. Oh dear. She'd been in those jaws once herself. Oh, please don't be sick. Please don't be sick. She shut her eyes and focused on breathing.
