Liuetenant Aybarra slipped his gun out of the holster, steadily he raised his arm in the direction he had seen movement. Another shift he caught in the darkness. "Target in sight sir, ready to fire on your cammand." He whispered. He had a knack for regaining his calm when it came down to it. But on the inside he was just as nervous as ever. He slowly rose to a crouch, awaiting the Major's command. All he needed was one wounding shot. Liuetenant Aybarra had a great aim, probably the best shot in his camp, beside the General of course. He emptied his mind, only darkness and calm surrounded his mind and body. He began to count down. Five... He narrowed his eyes to his target. Four... The grass russled around him as his comrades shifted. Three... The shift in the distance again. Two... He barely heard the Major's go-ahead ringing outside of the fringes of his calm. One... A shot rang out into the night, there was a yell and all was silent....

The percussion rang in his ears long after the shot was fired. He had made contact with the target but it was too dark to tell if the target was dead. Something had thumped to the ground after the shot. "Sir? Should we proceed?" Liuetenant Aybarra asked Major Finnbar. They had to proceed with caution. Who knows what condition the person was. The dark seemed to be getting darker as the moments passed. Almost as if it was solidifying around them. Taste and smell became bland, sight was hindered, sound was echoed. The dark seemed to be living that night, something was not right. He could still hear rustling in the direction of the shot he fired. Good, it isnt dead.... That was the last thought before he knew what had happened. The others had already moved ahead. He felt like an idiot.

(Sorry, end of the year. Big projects and tests. ^^; ) Finnbar crept foreward, holding his gun aimed and steady in the direction of the rustling. "Careful, men. Sounds like Aybarra wounded it, but if it's of the arcane it might still be a handful. We can't let it go, but that doesn't mean we should charge in blindly..." Sweat beaded on his forehead, despite the relative chill of the air around him. Despite his commander's wild stories, Finnbar had never actually seen a creature of the arcane, and thus he had no idea what to expect. Normally, who would find the whole thing rather foolish. No one in the camp knew for sure that these creatures existed, and even if they did, sending sparsely armed men out to locate AND subdue them with was...well...ridiculous. But, of course, his commander did hold a higher standing, and Finnbar expected that...not to mention, there was really no alternative to turn to. If the General's crazy plan didn't work, Earth would simply continue to deteriorate around them...until they could not even force it to sustain them anymore. Heaving a vaguely liberating sigh, the Major continued forward, doing his best to keep his gunhand from shaking.

Toshi was walking thru the wasteland with her heat vision on. She knew her eyes were glowing red, but she didnt care, no animals are here anymore. She flexed her gloved hand and heard the metal creaking. she sighed and drew the alchemist symbol on the soil, the clapped her hands together and oil was in the circle. She took the glove off and oiled her metal hand.
