This was taking forever. There were flits moving about, and more and more people had arrived. Caderyn, shook his head some, looking down at the food and he was wondering if he hadn't picked out something that they would like, course they'd eat anything right now, right?
"Not interested in a flit?" Gareth's voice made A'dras turn to look at him and he shook his head. "What's an old man like me going to do with a baby fire lizard? Besides if I did managed to get one, I'd never hear the end of it from you." A'dras let his eyes move back to where Caderyn was sitting, watching as the young man seemed to be getting a little disillusioned. He had stood for different hatchings and hadn't yet impressed a dragon. He doubted it but, A'dras was a little worried that Caderyn might become a bit sad, wondering if he could ever impress anything, course Dragons and Firelizards were different.

Masterharper Everything seemed to happen so fast. One moment he had been enjoying his day off at High Reaches, and the next he was on a blue dragon making his way to some beach! If the shock between climates had't been bad enough -- High Reaches was still snow covered and cold while the southern Istan beach was substantially warmer -- then the shock of other people appearing out of nowhere was.
Dragons were appearing out of Between all over, and delivering their passengers. Already he could count a brown, another blue, a green, and even a bronze. He didn't know if they were all from High Reaches or not, but it seemed like the beach was going to get crowded and fast. "Best get going, lad, lest there be none left for ye." It seemed as if the rider hadn't been as quick to leave as Chayrel had thought. Sliding down the blue dragons arm, he almost gave it a pat in thanks, before taking off after Fehral. Someone was certainly excited.
Thankfully, it didn't take him long to spot the crouched Candidate, and the black haired lad had to hide a snicker. It was strangely endearing to see such a large Candidate coo over the babies. Chayrel wasn't entirely sure about all the competition. The hatchlings were spilling over the sands, seeking out food, while others were still struggling out of their shells. So he gave a little whistle, hoping to attract the attention of one. "I've got some treats here." Or maybe the flits would respond better to talking? A glance around showed everybody trying to entice a firelizard over.
Crouching next to Fehral, he reached out to offer half a crusty meatroll. He wasn't sure whether or not it would do; most of the food had been leftover breakfast and snacks they'd stashed in the Barracks. But food was food, and maybe one would come over.
Fehral couldn't help it. He might have been a hulk of a young man, but the truth was deep down inside he still had the heart of a little boy when it came to things of wonder. Wonderful things like baby firelizards! "Chayrel, look at them. Aren't they just the most precious things?" The cutest little biters he'd ever seen! Oh sure there had been plenty of flits at Nabol, but he'd never had a crack and one, and never seen any so small as these! He proffered the bowl of chopped up tidbits that he'd brought with him, trying to entice one of the little ones to him. "C'mon, that's a good flit." The look on his face was one of rapt adoration. An expression typically (secretly) reserved for a certain young man.

J'nes was in the middle of oiling Hatteth when the dragon picked up his head from where he'd been dozing in the sun. Mine, a clutch of fire lizards has been found on the beach of an island, he reported, looking in the general direction of the island. They're hatching, and anyone is welcome to try and Impress one.
J'nes looked up from the path of dry hide he was slathering oil on. "What, would you like one around?" he asked his dragon.
Hatteth hummed a sort of 'maybe' sound, then added, I hear they are good for helping to clean hides.
J'nes had to laugh at that. "Looking for someone else to help scrub you, eh? Well sure, we've got some free time. I'm gonna take the time to finish oiling you properly, though," he said as he got back to his work. "Wouldn't do to leave the job half-done. It'd set a back example for the weyrlings." And the riders who hadn't been trained properly, he added silently. He'd meant to keep the thought to himself, but Hatteth heard anyway and grunted.
So it was that they arrived at the beach after a few of the eggs had already hatched and Impressed. Hatteth dropped his rider off, then retreated down the beach a bit, to leave room for all the people near the nest. J'nes pulled a few pieces of wherry jerky out of his pocket (the first food he'd found that might tempt one of the babies) and started tearing it into bite-sized pieces, keeping an eye on the eggs as he did so.

Kiri had hitched a ride on the back of a delicate green dragon. Word had spread like wildfire that firelizards were hatching on some beach, and like many, she hadn't wanted to miss the opportunity. Of course, by the time she'd managed to arrive, the beach was already becoming jam packed. Some individuals were searching the beach for more clutches, but the majority of the lot seemed to be centered around the hatching nest.
The thin girl weaved her way among the crowd of unfamiliar faces. She recognized a few, but mostly her gaze was on the white sands beneath her feet. She didn't want to step on one, after all, and while the sands weren't littered with flits, there were a few making quite the commotion.
"I wonder where their fair got to," she spoke to some boy who had sat down among the sands. "I would have thought if it were a gold's clutch the fair wouldn't have let anyone near. Think they got scared off by the crowd?" Ah, leave it to Kiri to be more interested in conversation than the little critters. It wasn't that she didn't want to Impress one, she just wasn't certain of her odds. "Or maybe the gold or green just plum forgot or didn't much care to return." Smiling brightly, she crouched next to Caderyn and began placing a few fishrolls around her. She didn't know how much a flit needed to eat to properly Impress, but maybe a handful of the little stuffed rolls would entice one over. "What's on your menu for the little guys?" She asked, not at all bothered by the fact that maybe, just maybe, this particular young man might not want to talk at all.
This wasn't like hunting or fishing. Silence didn't seem to be required.

Fehral seemed to be turning into a puddle of gooey sweetness and Chayrel found it both endearing and surprising. He hadn't expected the man to be so gentle, or at least maternal, and he was left with conflicting feelings. On the one hand, he was certain that if anything was going to draw one of the critters over, then it was going to be Fehral. On the other hand, the dark skinned boy couldn't help but wonder if maybe he was doing it all wrong. Should he try to be more gentle and sweet?
Was that even something he knew how to do?
"They're kind of wormy lookin', don'tcha think?" He replied, casting a blatantly envious look at the girl who had a brown firelizard literally appear out of nowhere and land on her. What did she have that he didn't, huh? And why weren't they picking Fehral or him? So far only girls were Impressing! Why was that!?
"I mean, they're cute, but so slim." And still definitely wormy. Faranth, he wasn't very good at this, was he?
So it was, he gave another little whistle, hoping to catch ones attention. Maybe if he stretched his arm out a little further. Yeah. That was sure to do it.
