It had felt like ages since she had taken on her Fennec Form and almost immediately, Jesse had realised why. Her little frame shivered as she took a moment to get her bearings, her large ears flicking this way and that before flattening back against her skull for warmth as she started off at a swift pace towards the Classrooms.

Although she'd seen glances of her classmates around the Festival and caught their scents in the air, Jesse had felt it best to leave them to their fun, not wanting to get in their way or distract them from whatever they had been up to, so with the opportunity to see them all again, she was rather excited.

Scampering down the corridor, she would reintroduce her old Parkour skills into the dash - partly because she was cold and wanted to warm up, but also because with the winter not being so good for little desert foxes, she had spent more time in her human form. Her first obstacle had been a student who had paused to tend to his footwear - this was an easy one - Lowering her head and flattening her ears, Jesse would put on a burst of speed, jumping high as she got within a metre's breadth of the youth and using the male's back to give her an extra boost as she kicked off with her back legs and sailed several feet down the corridor.

Performing a forward flip in mid air, Jesse would land lightly, glancing over her shoulder as the baffled youth glanced around as to what had ever so slightly thrown him off balance - it was all a bit of fun for her, but the run wasn't over and she was soon forced to leap to her right, momentarily running along the wall before putting all four paws back on the ground as she passed the group of students who had paused outside one of the other classrooms.

Familiar scents and smells now started to reach her senses and Jesse began to slow her pace as she approached the Shifter Classroom. Once again, it had felt like ages since she'd seen everyone there, but that didn't break her stride and so as she reached the door - which already seemed ajar - Jesse would slip her way inside, lifting her nose as she recognised the faint scents of her classmates before making her way to the seat around which her own aroma lingered ever so slightly.

After spending a wonderful break with Sokea, Gin felt well rested and ready to tackle pretty much anything. Who knew that semi-regular sleep could make you feel so good? No wonder some people smiled all the time. His dreams were still plagued with visions, but they were substantially less abrasive and seemed to have slowed down. It was as if before, when he’d denied the visions, they’d pile up into a flood that once released would bombard his mind relentlessly. But now that he was allowing himself to sleep more they weren’t hitting him as hard or fast as before.

Gin and Sokea shared a hot breakfast before the two walked to classes together. Gin made it a point to drop Sokea off at his Celebrar class room, giving him a light kiss on the lips – in front of everyone because he didn’t give AF – before heading to his own classroom for the day. Gin hadn’t seen much of Ven over the break, but he knew that was because ‘Papa Bear’ had been spending his time with Gia, his other favorite Professor. He didn’t blame the two, after Gia’s fight with Ezra, she’d needed a little extra love and while Gin could give her the love of a friend and an understanding student, Ven could give her a whole different kind of love, a deeper love that he knew Gia would benefit much more from. So, he’d kept his distance and spent his break doting on his boyfriend.

Stepping into the shifter classroom, he caught sight of Jesse, in her Fennec Fox form, ready and waiting for the class to begin. He didn’t normally talk to the little shifter, but then again, he was normally a grumpy jerk. Today, he felt like being a little social. Moving through he classroom, he made it a point to shift into his wolf form before taking a seat on the floor next to the seat she occupied in her Fennec Fox form.

“Mornin’ Jesse. Did you enjoy the festival?’ He could see some of the surprised glances from some of the other shifters in the room, but he ignored them. He knew his behavior was odd to them, but he wasn’t here to impress them. If Jesse answered his question, then he’d continue to converse with her. If she didn’t, then he’d take the hint.

Having been in her human form for most of the Winter, Jesse had been a little out of practice when it came to jumping up onto certain surfaces, so those not really paying attention would thankfully not have seen that after a slightly misjudged jump, she'd had to scramble for traction on the wood before finally getting herself in an upright and somewhat presentable position in preparation for class...

She had barely caught her breath when the sound of the door opening turned her ears - and her gaze - towards Gin as he took on his wolf form. This of course wasn't something out of the ordinary as the male often seemed much more comfortable in that appearance, but what did catch her off guard was when the normally reserved and perhaps standoffish individual had actually approached her seat, taking a seat on the floor beside her and then attempted conversation with her.

Not wanting to spoil his good mood, she took the invitation to talk with a foxy grin and beamed down at him from her perch above, turning to face the male before sitting down and wrapping her tail around her little feet, "Oh, it was certainly a spectacle!" she smiled, "I've never seen so many people, but it was rather cold," her ears flicked back and she thought of how fresh it had been when she'd arisen that morning, "How did you find it?" she would tilt her head again, curious to hear how his break had been.

To his surprise, Jesse didn’t balk at talking to him. She answered his question without hesitation and she seemed genuinely friendly and happy to talk about her experience at the festival – she even went as far as to ask him how he’d enjoyed it. He smiled a bit wolfishly, which was all a wolf really could do when you thought about it.

“It wasn’t bad. I missed the festival at the beginning of the year, but this one was pretty nice. Cold, like you said, but the food was good, the entertainment was amusing and the feast was a nice way to end the first day.” Thinking back on it all, the major highlight had been spending time with Sokea. “I went with Sokea. The festival this year just so happened to coincide with his birthday, so it was kind of like the City put on a big party just for him.” The night hadn’t ended the way he’d hoped, at least the feast portion, but he’d salvaged it in the end.

“Was this your first festival, Jesse?” The way she commented about the amount of people made him think that she hadnt been to such an event before. It wouldn’t surprise him, shifter families tended to prefer to live away from large cities if possible – they liked being closer to nature.

Jesse liked Gin's grin, it wasn't often she'd seen it and it was nice to see him smile after what felt like such a long while - there was certainly a sensation that a huge weight had been lifted, but that wasn't her business, so it didn't feel right to ask - unless of course he mentioned it first, "Oh?" Jesse barely knew anyone's birthday at the Academy and felt a little bad that she'd missed Sokea's, but at the same time, it was nice to hear he'd had a good one - Who could ask for more? Their special day to coincide with an event, it was almost perfect!

"I lived out in the desert lands with my Parents for much of my life," she had of course lost her Mother in her earlier years, but that had perhaps made it much easier for her to move on? "We moved to a small town after my Mother passed, but they held nothing more than the occasional farmer's market, so coming here and seeing the Solstice Festival, well, I can't think of any words really to explain it," she continued to grin,

"Did they have Festivals where you came from?" Jesse was eager to talk to the male as they rarely exchanged more than a nod of greeting in the past, but she was also aware that were she to talk too much, she might annoy him or put him off talking to her again, "If you don't mind me asking of course," he certainly seemed to have enjoyed it, especially when he mentioned the food - she herself had never seen such a spread before so hadn't really known where to begin.

As He’d suspected, Jesse hadn’t experienced an event like the Winter Solstice Festival before. It certainly had been a sight to behold. The city had gone all out to decorate the main square and all the surrounding areas to ensure that everything had been festive. Despite the snow and the cold, it had been quite enjoyable.

“Where I’m from, they did host some events, but nothing that grand. It was more casual, a big party between clans to celebrate the solstice. Kinda like an, uh, ‘Eat, Drink and be Merry’, sort of thing? I never had much interest in it, to be honest. But this was fun for me.” He knew it was because of the company…Sokea had made all the difference. If he’d gone alone, he probably would have hated it.

Gin found Jessie to be very friendly and very open. He had sensed her surprise and a bit of her apprehension when he’d first come over to her, but she seemed happy to talk to him and share her experiences. It was a nice change of pace. However, he was surprised that Ven hadn’t shown up for class yet. Maybe Gia was holding him hostage? It wouldn’t be the first time…Sighing a bit, he lowered himself to the floor, his head moving to rest on his paws. Huffing a bit, he hoped that class started soon, if not, a nap might be in order…

"The Solstice is the best reason to celebrate," Jesse would nod, "My Father always made sure to stay home with me when it came around, we would have a feast and make decorations," From a young age, she had come to understand how important the event was and how many people would take time out of their busy lives just to welcome back the sun after such a long time in the cold, harsh winter.

"Our tutor seems to be a little late today," it wasn't unlike Jesse to point out the obvious - as innocent as she was, it was something she couldn't help - but her concern was true, "I do hope he isn't sick," she'd been excited to see what Ven had planned for their first day back, but couldn't help note the lack of students also yet to grace the classroom... "Is everyone sick? It has been rather cold..."

As Gin lay down and rested his head on his paws, Jesse would turn back to her desk, she remained as she had been seated before, but seemed to zone out, deep in thought. She had never liked getting sick and had honestly expected to pick up a chill, but between the coat her Father had sent her and the scarf that Fidel had given her to borrow, both had kept her toasty warm.

Resting her chin on the desktop itself, she exhaled a sigh, wondering after all that rush to get there, she might have just taken her time and still been safe? It wasn't something she wanted to chance - she'd been late on her first day after all and didn't want to repeat it...

She cast a brief glance down at Gin, her left ear flicking outwards in wonder as to whether or not he was going to fall asleep, then she sighed again and closed her eyes. Maybe she could catch a few minutes herself?

Ven and Gianna spent most of the winter break together inside (much to his delight), except for the festival which was much more fun than he expected. He'd been dreading the end of the break when he'd be forced to return and teach, but all things had to end. Waking up with a groan, he kissed Gianna good morning, dragging himself out of the warm and comfortable bed and after a warm breakfast and getting dressed in his season-typical bundle of cloaks, he went out in the frigid weather.

It took longer than usual for Ven to reach the academy, partly because of the cold, but he did made it and it was with a mental cheer that he took off some of his cloaks and jackets inside his office. It's been years but he would never, ever get used to this weather. Once he gathered his notes, Ven quickly jogged through the halls to his class. He was running a little late and he wanted to finish the class as quickly as possible as he didn't want to stay outside more than he had to and he knew his students wouldn't want to either.

"Good morning," he called out loud as he entered, dropping his papers on his desk. The tips of his ears were slightly red because of his tardiness, but Ven's gaze was steady as looked around. A few students were taking a nap, Gin and Jesse being among them, but other than giving them a pointed look, he didn't say anything. He couldn't blame them, it was early morning and cold and he'd nap if he was in their place too. He knew that Jesse in particular suffered from the weather, coming from a desert, but that only made him more determined to finish quickly. At least Gin seemed happier, he certainly looked better than before, although Ven hadn't seen much of him over the break.

He also noted a few absences. Looking out the window, he decided to give it a few more minutes before he started the class. While this class wasn't going to be as intense as their earlier ones, given the weather and it being the first day back, but he did prefer students to be present rather than miss a class.

Gin, settled on the floor, didn’t open his eyes as he replied to Jessies comment. “Sick, or hibernating. I wouldn’t be surprised if Ven doesn’t show up, he is a bear after all.” The poor guy was fighting every animal instinct he had just by being awake this time of year. He had to wonder if their shifter professor would be very grumpy when he did show up to class.

By the time Ven did arrive, Gin had begun to doze off a bit. But as Ven entered, he lifted his head to watch his Professor dump his papers onto the desk top. Bundled in so many cloaks, it was clear that Ven hated the current weather, although Gin had to wonder why the bear shifter didn’t just walk around in his beast form. Wouldn’t he be far warmer in his own fur?

Getting up off the floor, Gin shifted back into his human form and took the seat next to Jesse, who remained in her Fennec Fox form. Glancing down at her, he was tempted to reach out and pet her or motion for her to hop up onto his shoulder – which were strange thoughts in and of themselves – but he squashed them down. Looking toward Ven, he waited for his long time Professor to begin the first lesson of the new semester – Gin's last semester as a student.

Jesse had never considered that Ven might just be hibernating, she of course knew him as a bear shifter - but she had perceived that his lifestyle might run alongside hers, seeing in the new day like any other, up at dawn, taking part in whatever the day sent her way, then off to bed when the sun finally disappeared beneath the horizon...

She pondered over Gin's words for a moment, exhaling a sigh as her little head rolled to the side as sleep threatened to take her... That was, at least until Ven's Booming Voice snapped the little Fennec awake and Jesse stifled a yelp, sitting bolt upright before relaxing slightly as she realised that their tutor had finally arrived...

Her large ears flopped backwards as she caught Ven's pointed stare, but with Gin's comment about him perhaps hibernating, she could only wonder how the man might be feeling about now - Perhaps like a bear with a sore head...? A bad pun to make, but if his natural instinct might have been to sleep - and he was keeping himself awake so he could teach - then what was to say he didn't have a headache?

"So sorry..." she shivered, grateful for her fur and its ability to keep her warm on cold nights, but she still felt rather chilly and hoped that her other classmates might turn up soon so they could begin.

Reynard gave Gannon and Elohari a little nod as they moved to head inside, away from the cold. Looking to Otsanda, he was amused when she took on her wolf form and teasingly circled him, willing him to follow her lead. It only took Reynard a moment to take on his fox form. Once he was shifted, Otsanda took off toward the halls, playfully willing him to follow her – Reynard didn’t have to be told twice. Reynard and Otsanda chased one another through the halls, laughing all the way, Otsanda’s playful nature made his heart soar – he couldn’t wait to be mated to her.

Upon reaching the Shifter classroom, they both retook their human forms. Opening the door for her, he stepped just inside to give Ven, the Shifter Professor a small nod of apology as Otsanda apologized for being late. Once she turned to him, he smiled down at her lovingly before caressing her cheek with the backs of his fingers. “Always…” Otsanda’s kiss was soft and loving – it left a smile on his face, even after she pulled away to go take her seat. With his future mate safely delivered to her class, he slipped out, taking care to not let the door slam behind him as he headed back to the barracks.

A few minutes later, Otsanda arrived along with Reynard, the city guard captain and her beau, apologising for her tardiness and explaining how she was up to date with her studies. That was good news at least, he had been giving her some extra study sessions to help but he was glad that she'd also been having extra help, that was one less thing to worry about. "That's good, just sit down so we can start."

After a couple more minutes, he decided it was enough and got up; he wanted to get this over quickly. A shiver passed through him when he stood in front of the class and not for the first time, he cursed the stone walls that did not keep heat in. Visibly hunching into himself, he addressed the class.

"I know most of you would rather stay inside and in bed than come back," (especially him) "which is why we'll take it easy today before we get back into the swing of things. So turn back to human everyone and we'll get started." He waited for everyone to settle down before beginning to speak. He started with a quick recap of what they'd covered so far before continuing what they were doing last. They didn't spend too long on theory, focussing more the actual shifting today. Ven didn't push them very hard, he didn't want the to sweat a lot and catch a cold when they went out, but it was enough to keep warm.

The finished ahead of time and it was with an approving smile that Ven regarded his students. It was with tired satisfaction that he dismissed them early to finish his post-class notes and leave.

Jesse was always fascinated by watching others move between their human and shifter forms and she would be one of the last to turn after watching her fellow classmates return to their human forms - She couldn't help but shiver when she finally joined them in her human appearance, even after donning the coat her Father had sent to her as a present for the Solstice Festival, she still felt rather cold and soon wished the class to progress towards more physical learning.

She enjoyed the fact they would be working on their shifting that day and wasted little time in reverting to her Fennec Form when asked - it was much warmer in her natural fur and after taking part in Ven's assignment which had helped warm her up a little she would maintain that appearance as the class eventually drew to a close.

"I enjoyed our conversation today, Gin," she would smile, happy that the normally gruff Wolf had taken the time to ask how she had fared over the Festival, "I hope we can do so again some time," Casting the male a Foxy Grin, she would hop down from her desk, onto the chair and then find her way to the floor where she would take a quick glance around before taking her leave of the room.

As their class had finished early, Jesse had considered making her way down to the Tailors to see how Leo was getting on with the coat she had requested as a gift for Tay, but as it was still cold outside and she had a few more chapters to read of the book Fidel had given her, Jesse instead made her way back to her dorm room, intent on getting snuggled up by the fire and reading.

Like most first days of the semester, class went by quickly and was relatively painless. Ven seemed eager to get back to his office, or possibly just to go straight home. Gin didn’t blame him, now that he and Gia were together, he was sure that Ven had something to look forward to once class was over, I mean who wouldn’t want to go home to Gianna? She was an angel, a gem.

Arising from his seat, he watched as Jesse jumped from her own. Smirking down at her, he nodded a little. “It was nice talking to you too, Jesse. See you next class.” He didn’t miss the looks of disbelief from some of his classmates faces. Catching their glazes, his gaze narrowed and he growled a little, reverting back to his usually grumpy self. The students eyes went wide as they scampered for the door while Gin approached Ven.

Hands in his pockets, he raised his chin at Ven in greeting. “Hey Ven, how was the break?” There was no doubt in his mind – Ven had had a blast with Gia. Gia was just that awesome. She was great company and he knew that they made one another happy. He was happy for them, they were a very good match.
