╒════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╕

As a brisk gale blew peacefully through the streets, a fairly mid-sized black feathered bird flew in over the roofs of the shops, its feathers dark as night and its eyes glowing a deep crimson. The bird looked like a normal bird, its body, frame, feathers, and beak all out seemingly normal. The bird landed on the edge of the grizzly cat's roof just above the entryway. Looking down at the white-haired woman for a moment, it simply stared at her before pecking at the edge of the roof. There was something odd about this bird, something eerie. When it looked up a second time, staring down at the woman once more the bird then cawed loudly for a moment, and a different sound came out of the mouth.

"It's time," The bird suddenly let out, calling out to the woman in a bit of a high pitched voice. From the cryptic message to the odd way that it lingered by, the woman would know exactly where this bird had come from. From the fact that it was pitch black if the woman had ever seen one of her messengers after they had started to be affected by the magic, she knew what was to become of it. "It's time, he has called for you..." The bird said again as it continued to stare down at the woman, making sure that she had received the message. Although she had many times been summoned in this way, this was the first time that the summons was ordered by him. Once it finished, the bird suddenly took to the sky, flying around her a few times before suddenly flying directly into the ground, its body melting into a strange ooze like oil before dissipating into the ground, and disappearing completely. The message was sent, and the bird had completed its task.

It was in the middle of her confliction that her thoughts were interrupted by a sound of feathers, followed by a loud caw. "Hm?" Philia turned her attention to the source, a black bird... Oddly familiar. Before the woman would ponder, it spoke and her reaction was to narrow her gaze, showing a distinct rise in her alertness.

"Time, huh." She repeated the birds words and watched it flying into the ground, forming a oily puddle that vanished as quickly as it appeared. Peculiarly, the summon wasn't from the usual person... But rather, someone important enough that she knew not to waste any time. "Guess it'll have to be next time then." She concluded about the bookstore prediciment. Philia ran her fingers through the darker side of her hair and she would then begin her progress through the streets, hopefully it wont take too long...

The morning sun cast rays through the shop window, casting warm light upon the rows of books. The air was still and peaceful, the sounds alive with muffled tweets from the birds outside. It was truly nice and Fidal took it all in, acting lazy that morning before the store opens.

He had been taking time to relax since he had tea with Lelyna, Mikhail, Kayl and Eryli. Having a chance to spend time with Lelyna, to see that she was alright,Β  helped to calm Fidal, to help him get over what he saw. He didn't fully let go. He didn't want to. To do that would be a sin to him. He did, however, return to a fully functioning state.

Over the rest of the Academy's summer break Fidal had taken time to spend with Sera, another source of comfort. Every minute with her was a magic that could peirce his melancholy.Β  With that, he also began writing a journal. He would write in it if his thoughts ever got cloudy. Luckily, it wasn't written in often.

The store was quiet. There was no one there except for its proprietor. Fidal didn't mind, though. He took this as an opportunity to take some time to relax. Making some tea, he picked up a book and sat down to read behind the counter. With his tea,Β  he had some strawberry scones he made the day before. Everything was perfectly delightful.

The book was a fantasy about a group of adventurers, rough around the edges and they didn't all share the same moral compass. Still, with all their quirks and differences, they managed to save a small town from being ransacked by bandits and they were praised as heroes, whether they saved the town to actually help, or if they were forced to so they could simply survive.

Forced together by fate, they were sent off to go on more adventures. Sure, they had their disputes, but they eventually began working as a team, if a bit begrudgingly. Their adventure was even taking them to long forgotten lands. That was as far as the rabbit could read, though, as a customer came in to browse. He gently set the book down, ready to go help the customer.

The door's bell gave one final chime as the last customer left for the day, a book clenched close to him. The rabbit smiled as he went to shut and lock the front door. The day had seemed short, and it went by without any trouble. A few customers came in, but all were pleasant and they were able to find something that tickled at their imaginations or sensibilities. And the rabbit was able to finish a good portion of his book, and his tea.

Heading into the back room, Fidal sat down to rest his head. It was time for one of his naps, even if he didn't work too hard. He had been the only one watching the store that day, so he ended up taking a nap that lasted a little longer than normal.

Waking up with a hearty stretch, he picked up a pile of extra books he kept to restock, and went out front to reorganize so he could fit them on the shelves in their proper order. He took his time, making sure everything was straight and perfect. All the spines were facing out, all an equal distance from the edge of the shelf if he could help it, and all sorted by genre and author. He took his time and by the time he was done, the warmer colors of dusk had begun to creep across the sky.

    Aldaine De’Fraye

Finally, one of the most boring shifts Aldaine had to suffer was over. Now he could seize the rest of the day. Paying a visit to the Grizzly Cat was his first order of business. Having already stopped off at the Barracks to change into his casual attire, he made his way to the book store, hoping his was lucky enough to find something that caught his interest.

Stopping at the book store’s font entrance, he took the time to gaze at the shops, how would one put it, rather artistic design. All the jaguar could say was that the owners certainly strived to impress or mystify or…whatever… Taking a step inside, nearly hitting his head on the door frame, the shifter was immediately assaulted with the pleasing fragrance of incense, combined with the scent of fresh pinewood and calming, quiet atmosphere, as silent as a library. Taking a step inside, his boots making a loud clicking with the fine wooden floor, he browsed the shops collection, in the endeavours to find a good read, he could use another source of entertainment other than Sarai’s β€œdelightful” training regimes, the Jaguar’s back was still hurting from the last one. As the feline browsed through the seemingly endless bookshelves, he spotted on book that caught his eye briefly, picking it up, he read it’s title aloud in a quiet tone, so as not to disturb the store’s atmosphere. β€œPathway to the lost: A Study into Artefacts” . Reading the name of the author, Aldaine couldn’t contain his slight look of surprise. He recognised the name. The author was of a rather influence and highly regarded noble house in Valor, a house Aldaine had heard of many times during his visits to the Trendel Royal Court. The Jaguar couldn’t help but feel pity for the author, last Aldaine heard, his books weren’t selling as well as they used too. β€œPoor Sod…” Aldaine thought to himself as he put the book back. Academic reading wasn’t really for the Jaguar anyway, he’d always enjoyed fictious writing a lot more.

Spending some amount of time in the bookshop, picking up various novels and giving them a quick try here and there, the shifter finally found one that really sparked his interest. A psychological-horror novel, perfect. Taking it to the counter, Aldaine made his purchase and exited the shop.
Now, time to head to the park to relax for a bit.

After class Camilla had gone back to her dorm to do some light training before bed. Having woken up relatively early, she showered and dressed for the day. Pinning her hair to one side and letting it hang down over her shoulder. Sliding into a blue sleeveless dress after putting on her undergarments, Camilla would adjust her hair slightly to complete her look. Grabbing her bag and making sure her purse was in it, she slid on her shoes and walked out of her room, through the common area, and out of her dorm. She had planned to go to the blacksmith today, but she had heard through the grapevine that he was away on business. So her trip to the blacksmith would once again have to wait. So instead she would decide to hit the bookstore. Camilla had pretty much finished most of her books, using them as training references at this point. She desperately wanted new books and material to immerse herself in.

*Exit to Market*

Taking a bit of time to get to the town closest to the school, Camilla arrived smiling as the breeze blew through her hair. Walking through the streets she walked aimlessly just taking the sights in. Turning down an alley she found the bookstore she had been looking for. She wasn't entirely sure she'd find what she was looking for since she had only been in this area once. It was a quaint little bookstore, very friendly atmosphere. Grabbing the door by its knob, she would open the door and walk in. Looking around it seemed a little quiet today. Not that bookstores weren't usually quiet. Looking around, Camilla would browse the selection looking for the section that would have what she was looking for.

~ Eryli entered The Grizzly Cat Stories on New Day ~

With today being just the right level of warm Eryli was feeling a touch more glamorous, even opting to try on her beautiful new icy-themed dress. She certainly felt free compared to her usual outfits although not as much as when in training gear. Certainly looks nicer though. Her goal was to do some research for self defense. Knowing that her Elective was gonna be purely physical, The quiet Elementor had to improve in those regards...

Entering the bookstore she glanced around with an amazed expression. Fancy..! It was more than she'd expected, how would Eryli know whereabouts to find what she needs?? It wasn't far into her exploration before she spotted a familiar face, the unusual girl from the Combat Elective? What is she doing here? Must love reading, maybe? That was her first guess. Curious she would go to approach the classmate, waving in her direction with a big grin whenever she noticed the mute.

To say that Marisenn was passionate about plants was an understatement. There was a reason she quit being a court mage to teach botany and it wasn't just because the academy made a very good offer. She'd been fascinated with plants since the carefree days of her childhood when she dodged her caretakers and hid herself in the manor greenhouse and library. But even among her plants she had her favourites as along with beautiful blooms, nothing held Mari's interest more than strange and deadly ones.

One of the perks of her job was that she could collect and study all the plants she wanted and the greenhouse at the academy hosted dozens of trees, shrubs and flowers from all over the world, from Rimal to Stoffhelt, but there was one tree in particular that she'd been searching around for years and she'd yet to actually see it in person or get a living specimen. It irked her because she knew where it could be found, she knew how to care for it, but she just couldn't find it. Unfortunately, it's native home was too remote to travel to directly, not quickly at least, and while there were some sightings closer, those leads turned out to be fruitless (ha! She should save that one for the students). She'd already combed through her collection of books and manuscripts as well as the Grand Library's but nothing had come out of them, so she decided that a trip to the bookstore in the city would be worthwhile. Hopefully, she'd find a book with updated information that could help her.

The trip itself didn't take too long; after returning from her daily trip to the greenhouse, she returned home for an early lunch, which being in the housing district meant that she arrived at the bookstore after only ten minutes of walking. Pausing to brush off any dust off her pristine blue gown, she entered the shop, moving past a couple of students she recognised from the academy leaving. While nowhere near as large as the Grand Library, or even the city's main library, but the shop had an impressive collection and Marisenn turned around, looking for the shopkeeper. "Hello? Is anyone here?"

The bookstore was quite lively. The day had been busy since opening in the morning. Fidal enjoyed the buzz, cheerily helping anyone that came through the shop door. If he didn't he would have to seriously take a look at his life choices. After all, he did choose to open a bookstore, and he wanted to be a butler. If he didn't handle it well, he wasn't cut out for either.

With a new day came new faces. The first two were students from the academy. Two lovely women, one with light pink hair and lean, the other with white hair and a gentle build. Fidal gave them a quick greeting and a slight bow with a small flourish. They seemed busy chatting and the rabbit took that as an opportunity to help the woman to enter after them.

This woman was tall and slight. Her pale skin was complimented by her dark hair and her sharp features. Something about her put the bunny in a state of unease. She was dangerous. Not the dangerous that Sera was, Fidal was intrigued with that feeling. No, this danger was one that was to be met with caution. She didn't seem to have nasty intentions, but Fidal could see in her eyes someone who calculated everything. One who was accustomed to logic almost entirely.

With a flick of his tail, and a light tap of his foot, Fidal forced himself from that line of thinking and greeted the woman. "Good afternoon, miss. Welcome to The Grizzly Cat."

Camilla was deep in thought looking through the vast collection of books. ' Where do they keep the combat books? ' She wondered. It was at this point that she saw someone approaching from her side. It was the girl from her combat class, the quiet one. Smiling back at the girl she waved in return. '' Heyyy, you here looking for books too? What are you looking for? I'm here to find more books on combat myself. '' She said cheerily. '' But I can't seem to find them. I've only been here one other time so I'm not familiar with the store layout yet. '' She said laughing lightly. Taking notice that the girl hadn't spoken in response to anything she had said so far. Perhaps she was just shy, or maybe she couldn't talk? She had never met a person who couldn't speak before.

Looking around she could see the owner speaking with another woman. She had never seen her before, so Camilla dismissed it. Perhaps she could go ask the owner where the books on combat were. But before running off she'd wait patiently for her classmate to respond to her inquiries. Camilla wasn't really in any rush.

While waiting to be spotted by the classmate she heard the approaching steps of a male who seemed to welcome them and bow, giving off a fairly formal air. Perhaps he's in charge..? Eyrli smiled at the man and bowed back before he walked off. Perhaps if she could speak she would have been able to ask him for the kind of books she was after... Better luck next time. Right now it seemed the girl she was approaching had noticed her and was already guessing why Eyrli was present. So she is reading up combat too... Maybe she wouldn't mind helping? I don't see why not! The Elementor looked excited as she reached for her notebook and pen, opening it to begin writing. It was always a bit of fun watching people discover her handicap... So many different reactions, she'd lost track long ago. When she finished Eyrli would nearly jump over to the pink-haired classmate and hand her the book to read her quick message.

I'm trying to study for the next Combat Elective! My name is Eyrli (Air-eh-lee). Maybe we can hang out?

Eyrli had figured that if they are both here for the same reason, perhaps 2 minds can work at twice the speed! Perhaps even a possible chance to physically work on their combat skills? Well, more than likely Eyrli would need to befriend this stranger first before suggesting they work that much together. Clearly lost in her own imagination the girl would sway on the spot side to side, hands behind her back with a goofy grin on her face as she would await to see what response she would get.

Camilla watched as her Classmate hopped closer to her after scribbling something on a piece of paper in her little book. Tilting her head slightly she curiously read what was on it. Her name was Eyrli, and she was looking for combat stuff too and she wanted to hang out! This was great! Noting she hadn't said anything and instead wrote it down she assumed that the girl was indeed mute. '' So you wrote this down because you can't speak? Wow, and you aren't letting that get in the way of your pursuit of knowledge. That's great! '' She said sincerely. The fact that she had a handicap and didn't seem to let it get in her way was quite amazing. Thinking about it as if she were the one with a handicap, Camilla wasn't sure how she'd handle it. But she was glad to hear that she wanted to hang out, she thought she might have had some hard feelings after class.

'' I'd love to hang out! I can show you all kinds of stuff I already know, and if we find some new books to read we can swap them after we finish them and compare notes! Oh goodness, it'll be so much fun! '' Camilla practically sang this to Eyrli. '' If you ever want to spar or have me show you how to use some of what I know feel free to ask. Oh, and I also have a large personal collection of books on combat if you ever wanna borrow them. Just be sure to give them back when you're done. '' She was smiling from ear to ear at this point. Camilla hadn't made any friends that she could talk too about combat like this other than Kayl and he wasn't around much lately. So this was beyond wonderful to her.

(Edit)
The two found a few books on combat and began reading them and exchanging notes on what they had found during their short time reading. Camilla was having so much fun that she had totally lost track of time and ended up staying there much longer than she had intended. Taking her book up to the counter she paid for it and turned to her new friend Eyrli. '' This was a lot of fun! Thanks for hanging with me, I hope we can hang out again soon! '' Camilla said holding the mute girl's hands in hers. Taking her book and putting it in her bag she smiled at her new friend. '' Whenever you want to go sparing or training or just hang out please come to my dorm. '' Letting the girls hands go, she made her way towards the front of the bookstore. '' I'll see you in class if I don't see you sooner. '' She said waving to her new friend before exiting the bookstore.

Eyrli grinned wide at Camilla's comment about her seeking goals despite her inability to speak. Even if it wasn't anything huge, it was a compliment Eyrli took to heart. She nodded in her new friends direction and threw a fist into the air out of sheer excitement. Somebody to practice AND study with?? Sweet..! Just the idea of sparring would get the mute all riled up. Sure, she wasn't at all capable right now. But with practice that would soon change! All of a sudden her dream of making it into the City Guard didn't seem so far away now. Plus Eyrli always believed that exchanging in a sparring session was one of many ways to know somebody. She had to wonder... What was this girls power? Better yet, what knit is she?

They'd both ended up spending more time around the bookstore, reading, taking notes... So much so that before they even knew it the day was nearing an end. The Elementor frowned a little. Man... There was so much more we could have done today. Not that it wasn't fun though! They'd both go to the counter with some books, paying for their own before bidding farewell to one another. Well, Camilla bidding farewell, Eyrli just waving frantically. With a twirl on the spot and a brush of her hair, the mute headed back to the Academy for the day.

With her Botany class drawing to an early close the day before, Jesse had been left with little more to do than head back to her Dorm Room and tidy up. She hadn't seen a lot of Rin lately and wasn't sure if she appreciated a tidy room, or a primordial Black Hole where strangely, one could find almost anything they wanted within the piles of belongings that had become strewn around or stacked into neat piles in certain corners of the room...

Jesse had obviously been brought up to keep a clean and tidy room, so she'd promptly set to tidying before crashing out to sleep on her bed...

When morning arose, the Fennec Child couldn't help but feel a slight chill in the air... That usually meant rain - and being a creature who preferred warmer climates, getting caught out in the wet was the last think the little Shifter wanted to do...

"Well, I can't sit here all day..." having already spent the morning sorting and the re-sorting through her books, Jesse eventually came to the decision that, as she was nearing the end of the third volume of her favourite novel, she would head on down to the Bookstore to not only visit her very good friend Fidal, but also pick up the next book in the series...

Donning a coat that she'd found on her latest excursion into the Marketplace, Jesse would take on her Fox Form and take as swift a run as possible down to the Market District... Once she'd arrived, the Fennec Child would transform, making an excited advance towards her favourite bookstore and extending her hand out to push open the door to find it...

"Locked...?" But how could this be? She took a step back, lifting her eyes to the sign before looking towards the door itself... "Closed...?" Her large, tan ears flopped outwards in sheer disappointment before perking up again as she pondered if the Bunny Shifter had perhaps decided to take the day off to relax?

Standing on her tip-toes, the little Fox tried her best to look through the window, hoping there might be signs of life before turning round with a sigh, "Where am I doing to get the next volume now...?" she would sit down on the step outside, her long tail curled around her, "I hope Fidal's alright..."
