Western Candidates
Rinis
It was still fairly early, and she was taking a moment after breakfast to tend to her young girls. The young gold and green firelizards still needed a bit of extra care. Hands, arms, and firelizards were coated in oil when orders came to put on robes. Rinis looked up startled. A sudden hatching? With no warning. She’d been considering dropping out of being a candidate, due to recent personal events. Now. Now she had one last chance.

“Chaek! Go find L’saen! Tell him to meet me.” The brown quickly popped out on his errand. She dumped oil jars and bewildered firelizards from her lap as she scrambled for her robes. It frustrated her, when her slick hands kept dropping stuff as she tried to change. Rinis firmly wiped her hands free of oil as her firelizards circled excitedly over her head.

Changed she rushed out with sandals in hand to look for her ride.

Omurntas
This was not what he expected for his first hatching, not at all. The weyr was a sudden hive of activity. Dragons were coming in and going in all directions. Nor did he expect he’d have to go somewhere else to attend this hatching. He thought it would have been on the sands here. Nope.

Omurntas grumbled as he grabbed the robes that were required. Foolishness. It was still a chance at a dragon. Unsure what to do once he deemed himself ready, he wandered a bit in the confusion; until he saw a familiar redheaded goldrider saddling up her dragon. He nonchalantly added himself to her line.

Papys

Papys was not a smart man. Martirae had made it clear his company was at best, unwanted, and had he been more inclined to be offended, her vocabulary of choice would have sent him running - all four words she'd sent since she'd told him to go stand with the boys. He'd really just been trying to keep her company after all.

"If you keep coming off as wanting to be by yourself, the babies will agree, you know," he said with almost an innocent flair. The look of murder he received as an answer did nothing for whatever fear instinct he lacked, but he could tell his well intentioned advice was doing no good here so he'd just....

Well there looked a rather lonely fellow! If Marty thought he'd be better to stand by one of the boys, he'd spotted just the one and he gave the young woman a playful shake of the shoulder and a few finger guns with a click of the tongue before he was off to bother his new victim.

By all intents and purposes, Cedarian looked as if he was fine standing on his own, but Papys knew better than to think that was the case. Who wouldn't want to stand next to him? Well, besides a girl who clearly had no taste. He crossed the sands with far less steps than it would have taken another candidate - Papys was tall and he seemed to be 60% leg at times - to join the aloof looking young man.

"That is quite the frown," he said, patting the red haired young man on the shoulder roughly, "Is that the kind of look you think these eggs are gonna like? It seems to be a popular expression for the day!"

----

Martirae

It took all of her willpower to not run both of her hands down her face when Papys finally left her be. Instead, she took a moment to close her eyes and gather herself up internally. Okay...she'd just need to treat this like a touching - mind open, thoughts positive, and...well, be prepared for little minds to be peering through everything.

But also be ready to step out of the way if needed.

I'm not sorry.

Lauthisen

This was an unusual circumstance if he'd ever heard one. Being ferried out to a desert island because a gold had laid her eggs here... He'd been a candidate for five years now, and none of the Hatchings had ever been quite so unusual. The pale young man held himself more on the outskirts of those hoping to Impress, uninterested with interacting. People were chattering among themselves, and Lauthisen was perfectly content to keep it that way.

The queen was young, or so he heard, but she didn't seem particularly fussed by all the attention. He studied her and the eggs closely, keeping his arms loosely folded. Maybe his lifemate was here, in one of these colorful shells. Maybe not. He'd been patient up until now, and he'd continue being patient.

Well. Patient for dragons, at any rate. People were a whole different story....

--

Alya

Nervous. Nervous. Nervous. But to show that she was nervous would be already admitting that something might go wrong! Alya was dramatic by nature, and so she fidgeted. And twitched. And sighed. "Pleaaaase don't let anyone get badly hurt this time," She whispered to herself, not particularly caring if anyone overheard. If they asked, she'd happily gush about the details, but oh!

She peeked at the others who were still being flown in, wondering if they were half as nervous as she was. Baby dragons were exciting! But she'd also seen firsthand just how dangerous baby dragons could be....

Ohh, she was so nervous!

--

Iathe

Suffice to say, Iathe had several thoughts about a goldrider who didn't realize how close to clutching her dragon was. And then to find herself woefully unprepared when the eggs unexpectedly began to hatch?! Fortunately, no one cared about Iathe's thoughts, and so she held her tongue. Her own anxiety often manifested in a ferocious temper and harsh tongue, and some idiot was hanging near the girls even when he'd sensibly been told not to.

Before she could snarl at Papys, he'd flounced off, and Iathe snorted with incredible disdain before she looked more closely at the one who'd chided him. She was a striking individual with odd, white patterns against her dark skin--and more importantly, she seemed to have a a good head on her shoulder.

"Idiot," She muttered scathingly, not at all sad to see the fellow depart. "Wanting to be away from fools has nothing to do with Impressing." And with her luck, that fool would be the first to find his dragon.

Iathe appreciates you Martirae.

Riders
Vosin and Gold Killakeeth- W
Vosin was busy buckling extra straps in so her passengers wouldn't accidentally fall off. Killakeeth was crouched as low as possible and letting her rider stand on a foreleg to help with straps that needed it. She rumbled as her favorite candidate made his appearance in short order. No, but once you climb up they will see we are taking passengers. She turned her head to watch Mari. Vosin, Mari is here when you're ready.

The woman peeked around her dragon's jaw to see Mari. "Hey. I see she called you. Climb up here and we'll get you buckled in ok?"

Candidates from Western are free to say they caught a ride with Vosin and Killakeeth to the hatching.

Ly’bur and Brown Hinburath- HR
With several bundles set, Ly'bur called his brown down to get him loaded up. Hinburath was reluctant to leave his vantage point. You want to see who's there already right? Now's your chance. The thought pulled the brown down and with some help from the drudges, Ly'bur lifted the bulky packages into place.

"I think we have room for one candidate this time around." He looked around, hoping his daughter Nalacko was in sight. It would be a good rumor to spread that he had given her a ride down. After a long look, he didn't spot her, but he did see another white robed candidate and signaled them over and to mount.

Candidates from High Reaches are free to say they caught a ride with Ly’bur and Hinburath to the hatching.

Huarwar

This was insane....

That one simple thought just kept going through Huarwar's mind as his breakfast had been interrupted. Movements went on autopilot as he was rushed back towards the barracks and told to change. Pulling off his clothing and on new white robes, as well as his sandals, Huarwar paused for a moment when he felt a weight coil around his shoulders.

The brown flit had landed there protectively and Huarwar felt some of his nerves disappear for a moment as he raised a hand to lightly stroke his head. "You can't come with me Henwas. You'll have to stay here." The brown let out a sound of disapproval, though he did not dig in his claws when he was removed from his preferred perch, his eyes swirling as he watched his master.

"You won't be there either....Henwas." He spoke the words to himself slowly, glancing only once in the mirror before leaving. His appearance had changed since Vimiath's children had hatched and he had lost his twin, but he was still able to see Henwas in his own appearance. Fists clenched as he walked, he had been determined that he would continue to try and find the dragon that was for him, no matter how many times he stood, no matter if the hatchings got bloody. Though, he did hope this one would end up being a bit tamer then the last he had stood at.

Journeying to the island, Huarwar kept wondering if he should be standing again so quickly afterwards. Could he do this? Flashes of what happened continued to play in his brain causing him to dig nails into his palm each time.

It was almost soothing to find that this hatching was unorthodox. Being on an island. It was beautiful, even if it was hot, though not unbearably hot at least. The fact it wasn't on a hatching sands, one that had stayed stained with blood for quite some time, it eased the ache in his heart and he was able to keep the flashes at bay easier this way.

With his feet on the sand, Huarwar looked around at all those assembled, seeing some High Reaches candidates that he had seen at Vimiath's hatching and some he had not. As he moved to find a place, Huarwar found himself drawn to the back of the crowd and closer to where A'ral was standing. He knew this wasn't done for protection, he would rather sacrifice himself to a hatching then let anything happen to A'ral, but there was a calming aura to the man, he was all of their surrogate father and though he could be hard on them when they needed it, he still truly cared, he had learned that since the last hatching.

There was one more person Huarwar was looking for, his eyes searched for her among the candidates. He wanted to be near Aelyx during this, as he had during the other. If anything happened to her as well.....

He wouldn't think about that...not right now at least. This was a hatching, it was supposed to be happy.

Ticene - HR Candidate

This was her kind of event! None of that time to worry business. The call came and action was the very next step. It was a good thing they had them keep robes all the time. Concerned friends had hovered as Ticene had quickly thrown on the garment. Was she sure this was a good idea? She hadn't long been out of the infirmary. They still heard her wheeze sometimes at night. Even now they could see her breath starting to get short. Regardless Ticene waved them off. It would be fine. There was no chance she was going to keel over on the sands. The healers said that she would be fine, her body just had to build itself back up after that infernal sickness had knocked her down so hard. There was no way that Ticene was going to miss a hatching for something like that.

Where were they even going? There wasn't a great deal of time to wonder as they all made their way to the dragon's willing to give the candidates a lift. It was a green by the name of Oyath and her rider A'ye that would be taking her and others to their destination. Being one of the last on, Tic settled in, getting a tight grip. This would only be her second time on a dragon, so there was a little apprehension about falling off. A moment between though and there was nothing that could make her feel apprehension. They appeared into a world of blue; the clear sky above and the rolling waves below. A soft and frankly uncharacteristic gasp escaped Ticene as the the wind whipped the smell of the sea past her face. This might only be her second time on a dragon, but it had swiftly become her favourite.

Once they had landed, the candidate slid off the green's back, landing with a gentle thud in the soft sand. Her eyes slid closed and she turned her face to the sun, pulling the scent of the sea deep into her lungs. This was perfect. How could she feel nervous here, when everything she associated with home was within reach? With a soft smile she said her thank you's to dragon and rider, giving a small wave as she made her way to the clutch; heart lighter as she joined the other hopeful candidates. It was hard not to bask in her surroundings. The warmth of the sun on her face, ocean breeze tugging at her hair, the soft murmer of just the right number of people. It felt like her body was drinking in the salt as though it were starved for it. Idly she shifted her feet. The sand was warm as it enveloped her sandled feet. The temptation to remove her sandles to sink even further was strong, but she imagined that would be inappropriate. Running her hands over her arms the candidate took in another deep breath, releasing it in a contented sigh.

Her gaze roamed over the clutch. A smile tugging at her lips as she took in the sight of the gold and her eggs on the beach. It was a perfect sight to her. The merging of her home and this new life she had chosen. Idly Ticene wondered if this was how it had been before thread had returned. Golds able to clutch wherever they desired? Wherever made them feel most welcome. Somewhere in the back of her mind she felt Babba slip in. The dark blue wasn't impressed about this sudden change in scenery, but he had managed to find himself a place to watch. The image of her from a distance flashed into her mind. Babba had found a space between some foliage to wedge himself. It had been a pain to find a hiding place in this new, bright, crowded, place; but he had managed it. This corner would be fine. Ticene could be sure he was watching now.

Shaking her head slightly Ticene focused on the eggs once again. It was somewhat difficult for her to focus on them when everything in her being called for her to sink into the sand, to walk into the shallows; but she would give them the respect they deserved. This was the first clutch Ticene had ever been to. Other candidates had told her how they were struck when they first saw eggs, unable to take their eyes off them. Here however, in this place that felt like home, it felt right for them to be here. This wasn't some strange place with closed in walls, hidden among the mountains. Even though there had been no touching, Ticene felt a kinship to these eggs. They would be born into the world she loved. Under the open sky; among salt and sand. Their first breath would be of the sea air, just as hers had been. Now all they had to do was take it.

Elyk - High Reaches

Standing on the beach in a thin pair of sandals that he had yet to get used to, Elyk shifted his weight from one foot to another, a tentative look on his face as he looked at Susurinth and then her eggs. So... they're supposed to wait and then?

Casting his gaze on the other candidate hopefuls, he counted their numbers and felt his heart drop a little when he realized that their numbers far exceeded the number of eggs that were in the sand. Oh man, he had no ideas that the odds were going to be so bad...

Rio

"These babies have gotta be nicer, right?" Rio observed hopefully from behind Alya. "How can you hatch on a beach and be angry?" It was grasping, to say the least, and objectively he did know that these hatchlings might very well be temperamental; even if there had been a Touching, it would have been Fort's candidates, who....weren't currently here. The likelihood of confused babies seemed quite high. But still! They were on a gorgeous (hot) island waiting for baby dragons to hatch, and he chose to be cheerful! He could stubbornly hope that they would all be happy and sweet until he was forced to concede that they weren't. Besides, his openly worrying about it would be the opposite of helpful.

So he wasn't worying about it. Nope. Not at all. He'd stick with his friend, smile brightly, and do his best to keep her safe and looking up.

W'dre of Bronze Dormith

With his passengers safely off and W'dre off helping set up tables for feeding the newborns, the large bronze settled in the sand, looking out over the candidates and the eggs. After a moment, he shifted his weight to spread out one massive wing, casting shadow down below it with a deep rumble that made the earth beneath him shake slightly.

Step into the shade if you need it. the dark bronze rumbled so that all candidates could hear.

DORMITH IS OFFERING UP SOME SHADE FOR CANDIDATES FOR THE TIME BEING.

Martirae

Iathe's sharp tongue didn't go missed by Martirae whom, after her moment of recomposing herself, let his brief stint of annoyance go. The idiot didn't deserve another lingering moment in her brain, after all. Regarding the young woman, it took a moment for Marty to place where she'd seen her previously.

Ah yes, the murder mystery party that Western Weyr had recently called a Hatchling. Though it had been long enough now that the young ones were able to fly. So perhaps 'recently' was no longer a proper word for it.

"He's going to get himself eaten, I simply don't want to have any part in it," she agreed, nodding slowly. "Martirae, of Western. I saw you at the last spectacle at our Weyr. Surely this lot can't do much worse," but she knew for a fact it could.

Oh. Well, okay he guessed that’d work. So she’d only called him. He’d been sure she’d call a few others. Right... Mari climbed up onto the gold carefully, not wanting to offend or hurt the dragon.

“Do you this hatching will go better than last time?” He asked. Hopefully no one would die. Would D’mar be there? But no, he was probably still recovering. Going between was bad for wounds.

“Do you think my firelizard could give Dolly a play by play? I want him to know if I impress. Liasa could maybe?”

Rylyrr

"I was hoping you would receive a metallic but I didn't know the egg would hatch a gold, I'm not that informed about flit eggs." Rylyrr gave a half shrug. "I guess the courier I purchased them from was just extraordinary lucky." He had gotten a good deal on the eggs as well. "Ooh, what did you decide to name her, if not lovely?" That would be a good name.

"No, but it is the way things are here and we will have to see, but thank you for your well wishes." And what ever luck that could stick. "And yourself?Do you wish to impress or still uneasy at the thought?" They had time, the eggs were not yet rocking on the sands.

Riders
Vosin and Gold Killakeeth- W
Vosin made sure Mari was securely fastened in. "It'll go the way it's gonna go. You just have to be yourself and your dragon will pick you." She grinned reassuringly at him. "Plus we'll be watching and rooting for you." The woman shook her head at his question. "Just like with hatchings here, firelizards are not allowed."

It didn't take long for word to spread. Soon there was a short line of candidates. Vos got several more settled. The last one she helped up, she recognized. "Ah I'm glad to see your here Omurntas. We'll get you right down to the beach and we won't even kidnap you." She grinned at a private joke with the other candidate.

Vos swung up into her saddle. "Rest of you wait there, and we'll be right back." Killakeeth took off in a shower of sand and quickly landed on the beach to let off the anxious candidates.

Candidates from Western are free to say they caught a ride with Vosin and Killakeeth to the hatching.

Ly’bur and Brown Hinburath- HR
His one passenger mounted up, Ly'bur settled into his seat. "Let's go." Hinburath was quick into the air. They popped in into the hot air of the island and he groaned. This hatching was going to be miserable. They landed to let the kid go and he untied the knots on the packages. The brown looked around with interest to see who was there so far while he waited.

P'rell & Venaith - HR

Ihiannsith cooed over the eggs and the golden mother. Such beauty, how wonderful that new life would once again grace them and such a pretty place. He stretched out and sprawled over sands near the ocean, making himself a pretty and shimmering brown road block. No hatchings getting in the water here. Nope.

Aly'on picked up his bag, hastily packed but he wasn't going to keel over from sun stroke thank you. He had a choice of shirts and lighter pants instead of his rider wear. He walked to the shade, meaning to chance and pause catching site of P'rell. "Do you wish to borrow a lighter shirt before you faint?" He questioned, undoing the buttons on his jacket.

P'rell & Venaith - HR

P'rell's attention was pulled from his own discomfort as another rider approached him in the shade. He had already discarded his own vest and was vainly trying not to sweat through the rest of his layers. Small curls of blond hair clung to his forehead and the rest was beginning to hang limply over his shoulders. The riding pants and boots didn't help, but he wasn't about to strip down to his skivvies in front of the candidates and western riders.

As Aly'on made his offer, P'rell's eyes widened and his breath hitched. His eyes flicked down to the rider's chest as he removed his own jacket and lingered maybe a second too long before returning to the young man's face. "I beg your pardon?" Surely he couldn't be offering the shirt he was wearing? What would he do then? Go shirtless? P'rell would be lying if the thought wasn't appealing to him but he also barely knew him! They didn't fly in the same wing at least.

He did have the complexion for it though... moreso than P'rell did at all. His face flushed with the heat of it all.

S'del & bronze Kindeth
It was much to his surprise -- and good fortune -- that the very same rider he'd been searching for appeared from the growing crowds. A smile full of his usual good cheer immediately crossed his features as A'ye bridged the distance between them. "Hello there, stranger," he greeted amicably. He gave A'ye a cordial dip, as if to prove to them both that he was well enough to actually be here. Theoretically, he was -- Kindeth, though, wasn't so sure. The bronze gave a worried croon, but did offer a happy croon to A'ye before resuming his welcoming hum. "I promise I'm all right, honest. The Healers gave me a clean bill of health almost two sevendays ago, and I'm back to active duty. I honestly couldn't ask for a better excuse to get out of the Weyr. The warm sun and ocean air will do me some good, don't you think?"

S'del certainly didn't want A'ye to worry about him -- he was absolutely fine, wasn't he? A bit weaker than he had been a month prior, but he knew he'd regain his strength every day. K'ienn would make sure of that. "It's nice to finally see you somewhere other than the infirmary. How've you been?" He chattered, sincerity laced in every word. Was he talking too much? Should he let A'ye focus on the eggs? "I mean, if you've got a minute to talk, that is."

Shinnikan
The tall boy had gotten separated from Kellan during their transport from High Reaches to the beach. Part of him knew he shouldn't think too much about the other -- his room mate had a way of getting under his skin that made him irritated and enraptured all in one go -- but it was hard not to at least keep an eye out for the red haired Bitran.

Stepping onto the hot sands, Shinnikan couldn't help but smile. Now this was a sort of Hatching he could attend any day. To hear the familiar roar of the water, to feel the heavy heat of the sun, and have the humidity press down on him, felt nice. While others might sweat and grumble about the discomfort, to Shinnikan, this is what he grew up knowing. As a Seacrafter, this was home, and it was a glorious change from the quiet of the mountains.

A girl next to him yawned, and the tall man glanced over to peer at her curiously. She looked somewhat familiar, and seemed to wear the knots of High Reaches. "Bored? Or just a bit sleep deprived?" She didn't look nearly as bright-eyed or thrilled like some out there, but he wasn't about to judge. No one had time to prepare, or even get to know this clutch. A small part of Shinnikan wondered if they should even be considered -- this was rightfully Fort Weyrs.

Cedarian
Who. What. How. DARE. It took the man a few moments to process the un-requested pat on the shoulder, and an even longer moment to process what he was saying. Who on Pern was this creature, and why had he chosen to approach him!? His brows knit, and his frown turned into an outright scowl of disapproval, as he took a pointed step away from Papys.

"There clearly must be a reason for that," he stated coolly, keeping his manners in check by not telling Papys that his presence must be the source. Honestly, who just came up and patted someone so boldly? And to make some comment about his expression --- the nerve! "I don't think they're going to care one way or another whether I'm smiling or not. It's hot. It's humid. And any dragonet with a lick of sense will know that we're all just a bit uncomfortable here." Hmph.
