Syrenthie (Hopped a ride with Banashe and Brown Severith from HR)

Syrenthie couldn't help but enjoy the ride on Severith from HR to the beach. It was nice to be allowed out now that the weather was betterish, even if she had a charge to care for. Mostly she was judging how well he was doing during flight, making sure he'd learned to compensate for the loss of an eye- and wasn't straining his one good one.

Not knowing Banashe very well, Syrenthie thanked the teen for the ride, reminded her that should anything untowards happen she was but a call away to help out.

And then giving the pair some space she wandered over to see what all this hatching buissiness was about, while eating her lunch. Stopping near the hatching she offered a small bit of her meatroll, holding it out and waited.

Tuelarua

A free day was usually spent with medium in hand, and finding something, sometimes someone to add to her self-bound book. Even at this little picnic, Tuelarua had found herself a high perch to sit on and had been so gently sketching in the coastline to add a bit of color when a commotion had caught her attention. A firelizard clutch..? Oh, she quite liked the little things. Nalacko’s little green had been darling, and then there had been the other baby she had seen..

With a resolve to at the very least investigate, she snaps her book shut and packs it away in her small side bag before climbing down. Cautiously she approaches the gathering crowd, her eyes easily picking out a familiar form crouched down, as she picks out a piece of soft jerky from her bag as an offering for any flit that might be interested.

Bisera

Adeniuth had passed over the information as soon as she caught wind of it, lifting her head slightly in interest. Her rider had been taking care to wipe her dragon down carefully, for the sand and dust had stuck a bit oddly where she had been laying.

Might be worth a look around? I have the coordinates. Adeniuth’s question was innocent enough, though her eyes sparked a touch with mischief. The rush of wind and snap of Between would rid the remnants easily enough.

“Mm, I suppose so.” Rag away, Bisera paused only enough to tell Unnie where she was off to, before clamoring aboard the waiting dragon and springing into the air. The rush of between is lost to the warm salt of the air over the coast, as Adeniuth banked to the side, away from the commotion and other gathered dragons so that her rider might approach on foot and the gold might watch from a distance. Food in hand, Bisera almost felt a touch out of place, but there were baby flitters to focus on, and a potential bond to make.

A little head poked up from one of the nests, a cap of eggshell still perching precariously on its tiny headknobs. Many voices and hands were close by, and several different food smells. Which one would this newly-hatched flitter choose?

Carefully, it climbed out of the nest, keeping itself nearly flattened to the ground as it moved closer to the good smells. It wasn’t afraid, just cautious. The creatures who surrounded it were big and noisy, after all! It eventually came near enough to take a chomp out of a hunk of something that was definitely meat. Then it backed off, puffing out its chest bravely in the face of dang—oh wait, it was just showing off! For Kinye, that is. More meat, please!

Sternly, Y'mar stared down at the pile of paperwork that had materialized from out of his travel bag. Wouldn't you know that the High Reaches Candidates and a good share of non-Candidates would choose this beach to visit for their break.

This beach. His thinking beach.

Shards and shells, but he was not going to get a single thing done.

Which, of course, brought him around to why they were making such a fuss. It seemed that an entire clutch of firelizards was hatching right now - and the entire group had been riled up into an excited frenzy trying to catch the little things' eyes.

The Weyrsecond frowned slightly. His meatroll wouldn't last around those critters... but did he really need it that badly? D'mon would never let him hear the end of it if he came back with one of the silly creatures. Then again, perhaps D'mon was due a little bit of the annoyance that he put his Second through.

Oh! "Look, he's coming closer," Kinye spoke in a soft whisper, shoulders tightening up in a very common display of excitement as she fought off the desire to bounce on her toes.

The closer the little guy drew, the farther down Kinye sank. "Hey there, buddy, c'mere," she murmured softly, carefully unbunching the meat in her hand into more delectable looking chunks. "That's right, you're okay little guy," she praised in the same soft tone, waiting patiently as the little firelizard snatched one of the morsels out of her palm.

It was right there and Kinye was so nervous she was forgetting how to breath.

Then it looked back up at her and for a moment she thought it was upset - had she done something wrong? Maybe it had wanted Karone? Did...firelizards make choices like that or did it only matter that she had food? A long stretch of wings and a few graceful steps from the young bronze, however, and he again bumped his head up against her open palm to grab up another bite of meat.

As he chewed on it - an ungraceful looking task - Kinye cautiously reached out her empty hand to scoop the little bronze up under his belly, earning a small squeak of protest as she slowly rose to her feet and rested him against her shoulder.

Was she....doing this right? Restlessly, the little bronze scampered up her shoulder...then dropped right down her back, claws (and a barely contained squeak of pain) all the way, back into the sand to sniff around before looking up to Kinye again.

More food?

Syrenthie wandered down the beach when she saw a semi-familiar face. moving from where she sat, moving with a purpose now she caught up to Y'mar who appeared to be contemplating their lunch. "Hello! Fancy seeing you here! Wanting to claim a cutie for yourself?" she queried softly- as her deep hazel eyes tried to keep an eye on everything and nothing all at once, though they tended to more often than not land on her charges.

Qiana [WW] - 28 - she/her/hers - Fire Storm Wingsecond of White Amairrith

---

Feel free to catch a lift with Amai if your character is smol and can fit on a 14' white dragon! Also assume that Qiana caught you post-landing, if the shrug-dismount might have caught your character off-guard.

Oh. Oh my! Oh, my dear Qiana! Did you hear the latest gossip? Amairrith’s eyes whirled with a growing intensity, and only iron-forged self-control stopped her from spilling the beans immediately. Qiana’s lips quirked into an amused smile, looking up from her paperwork to study the curled up dragon. There is not one flitter hatching- but two! Two, on a beach… Some of the High Reaches dragons are there! Oh, Qiana, we must have one! We must go get one at once! It will make our lives so much easier.

“Okay- first off, a baby flitter is a lot of responsibility, and also a living creature. It does not live to do your bidding--”

Yet.

“Secondly- do our higher-ups know? I'm not sure what the protocol would be for a surprise mingling, at the moment...”

Oh, it'll be fine. We should go!

Qiana narrowed her eyes at her dragon, whose honeysuckle voice screamed purity and sincerity. Probably too much. She brushed her chin with her fingers, in thought for a moment, then shrugged and grinned. “I’m sure issues will be dealt with as they arise. Let’s go then, sweetness.”

Small as she was, Amairrith still intended to offer her services as transport- no doubt to the prettiest folk, Qiana thought. Common sense prevailed, after the rider mentioned that there was a chance she might not be able to to fit more passengers. With a delicate, sweet little cough, the white dragon broadcast to the folk around, I am more than happy to carry the sweetest, smallest person who may wish for a chance at Impressing a firelizard. You must have swift feet and a pleasant smile. You may also bring a friend if they are as lovely as you. Her mindvoice might have been delicate and frilly and saccharine, but it allowed Amai to conceal her real intentions of collecting people whilst looking good doing it. Whoever chose to board her would be hers- at least for a day.

Upon arrival, it was easy to see where folks were gathering. There was a lot of commotion. Oh, do hurry! I think some have already started to hatch. You’re late! A petulant whine was offered, and Amai all but shrugged her rider from her shoulders. Qiana landed with practiced ease, well-used to her dragon’s minor theatrics. She joined the milling crowd, food in hand, warm and welcoming smile plastered on her face.

J'lar & blue Loreleth

Loreleth had heard that was there was a firelizard clutch hatching at some beach... Loreleth had also heard that High Reaches Weyr had been notified. This meant a certain someone might be there, and it was someone the chunky blue wanted desperately to see!

Mine, can we--

J'lar wasn't going to argue, even if his interest in flits was minimal at best. It wasn't that he didn't find them cute, but the large, ex-mercenary was indifferent about many things. He'd never been given an egg, had never had the marks to buy them when he'd been younger, and the one time he'd been given one his father had sold it from under him. Even after he'd left that life, and had lived as a Candidate in High Reaches Weyr, he'd never managed (or bothered) to get one. After Kharin, he hadn't found much purpose in anything....

Until he found Loreleth.

Now, the beautiful blue dragon was his world. He was his reason to get up in the morning, his reason to carry on, to start building a life anew. Loreleth had saved him from himself, from his spiral of self-destruction, and his depression; he had a new purpose, a new direction, and it was all thanks to the dragon who now desperately wanted to go to the beach.

As if he'd deny him that.

We can. Maybe you'll find a friend there, eh? He encouraged, even as he moved to find his riding straps. Did he bring something to feed the little things...? Eh. He doubted they'd be interested in him anyway. The only reason he was heading out was so that maybe Loreleth could see Brieteth. E'mel would be there too, no doubt, assuming the pair came at all. He hoped they would, for his blue's sake, if nothing else. He knew he wasn't exactly the most outstanding company.

Loreleth couldn't wait. Tentatively, shyly, he reached out to give Brieteth a small, mental touch. Brieteth... Might you be going to the beach this day? I will be there and it... It would be so nice if... If you might be thee, too. The blue wasn't accustomed to asking for attention, but it had been so long since he got to see the other. The blue dragon had noticed all of boys during Killakeeth's most recent flight, but there had been one that he'd wished to have seen. And he'd wondered what it might be like if...well... It didn't really matter what he might like, did it? The young dragon still had much to learn.

But he might hope. If nothing else, Brieteth was a very dear, very wonderful, very sweet, best, most handsome, friend.

J'lar tried not to be too amused.

- - - -

By the time they made it to the beach, a crowd had already formed. Loreleth landed a bit farther away, too shy too get too close, but anxiously looking for any familiar sign or face. Maybe they wouldn't come? They might be busy... Which he understood.

J'lar slide down Loreleth's side, and gave him a gentle pat on the shoulder. The large man ran a few fingers through his hair, but otherwise, had no desire to approach the group. He'd just get in the way, and knowing his luck, would step on some nest or some hatchling. No, he was here purely for Loreleth... and the blue was trying so very hard not to look too hopeful or earnest.

Hitched a ride with Wione and Findith, thanks! <3

Hello shygirl!

Flying was an incredible feeling- and the sensation of Findith’s strong body beneath her, wings beating without relent, made it even greater. As a candidate, dragonflights were truly a treat to be savoured. The ensuing dark of Between sent a stab of fear through her heart, but it was over before the young woman truly began to panic, and the warm, summery air brought soothing comfort. Keleres grinned as she watched the sands grow closer with every wingbeat.

Then it was over, and she slid down Findith’s side, all smiles and graciousness. “Thank you so much, Findith. And you, Wione.” She nodded her head in respectfulness, green eyes dancing with delight. A firelizard hatching! What joy!

She moved towards the growing group of watchers, hand resting on a small bag filled with jerky and meatrolls. It had been made available through the dining hall, but Kel half-worried that she had taken too much. Still, if anybody was in need, she at least could offer them something. But she paused as she glimpsed a familiar face, her smile brightening. “Oh, hullo… Stormy, right? It’s good to see you here!” She was a quiet candidate- and Keleres was still trying to learn all the names and faces and put them together. It had been much easier at Rivercrest, where people had come to see her specifically. Still, it was good to see her here.

Kel’s gaze slipped to the clutch, where she watched a bronze puff up his chest before seeming to bond to another familiar face. “Firelizards really are lovely…” The young redhead found herself murmuring, her smile still bright and full of grace.

Edalla and Green Moilath (Wingrider of Star Flame in Western)

Edalla had gone to get a bite to eat, when she felt excitement from her green waiting impatiently outside the dining hall for her.

Dare I ask what has you so happy, Moilath dear?the woman thought to her green.

Word is going around of two firelizard clutches hatching on the beach. Please...please can we go, Edalla Mine?the green pleaded her rider.

We just got Erna a little while ago when we were out searching, do you really want another?Edalla asked, trying to reason with her dragon. However, she could already tell her beloved had her hearts on this.

Yes please, I would very much like another. Erna has been wonderful company. I am sure having a second would help a little more,Moilath responded, the aforementioned green flit chirping up on the green dragon's head.

Alright, I suppose we could go. And before you ask, we can offer a couple others to go with us, okay?she assured, knowing that was the other thing bubbling up in her dragon's mind. She went and grabbed some extra wherry meat from the cooks, before heading out to her awaiting green. She made sure to let others know they were headed out, so they could ride with them.

Moilath waited for her rider to climb into place and secure the meat, then waited for anyone who might need a lift. Once they were ready, she headed in the direction of the beach, jumping between when she needed to. Once they got to the beach, she landed away from where the gathered crowds were, to let off her rider and other passengers.

"Alright, stay here near the water. Erna will stay with you and if someone from High Reaches gives you a hard time, you let me know,"Edalla spoke, before grabbing the meat and breaking them into smaller pieces. Then she knelt in front of one of the nests.

Ash'il and Bronze Iptoneth (Wingsecond of Harbringers Wing of HR)

Ash'il would have spent his rest day working on some plans he was hoping to show to R'ogun of how to make their wing more efficient, but it seemed his bronze had better ideas. Since the candidates were having a rest day at the beach, Iptoneth suggested that maybe they should offer to help transport them over. After all, it would be a big help to the Weyr and they would be getting to know some of the candidates right? They were the future of High Reaches, the bronze reminded, using his rider's since of duty to talk him into it. And it had worked, the pair of them helped get some of the beach where they would be having a picnic.

You know, you are sneaky when it comes to getting me to relax, you know that? I am just glad you didn't try to talk some of the other members of our wing into 'helping' out too. Or..did you?the wingsecond asked, giving his lounging bronze a suspicious look.

I might have mentioned something to our wing in passing. Just in case they might want a chance to relax too,the bronze answered calmly, Anisa give a soft chirp from the green flit's perch on his head.

I should have known, you are so good at being sneaky. I really should..Ash'il began, before stopping when he heard some girls speaking about having found firelizard eggs. He looked over to his sister, Demanthra, who was watching over the candidates. She motioned for him to go, knowing he just had the little green that his twin had given him from Awnya awhile back.

Go on, Mine, you should try your luck. You do know that is how Ashlyn got Awnya and Demanthra got Eidel,Iptoneth encourage.

Well, I guess I could try,he admitted, as his sister handed him a couple of meatrolls. He told Iptoneth and Anisa to stay with Demanthra and Monath, before he headed over to the nests. He sent a salute over to the Weyrsecond, seeing him a distance from everything. He got there just in time to see his youngest sister seem to bond to a little bronze.

"Congrats, Kinye,"he whispered to his sister, working on ripping a piece of the roll and crouching down.

Karone

Kar’s own “Oh!” was probably even higher than Kinye’s was, thanks to his natural pitch. “Look at that, he’s coming right for us!” A bronze! A bronze! And what a handsome fellow he was, all warm coppers splattered with dark and light spots.

It was with a twinge of jealousy and a nibble of his lower lip that he watched the little bronze go to Kinye (he was still a bit tender from being rejected at the Weyr’s last dragon hatching, after all), but then the feeling was flushed away with happiness for her, and he laughed at the beast’s silly antics. There were still plenty of other flits about, and he had his lovely little Liya at home, besides.

“Keep feeding him, Kin! If you wait too long, he might go to someone else.”

The touch surprised the woman, who'd been distracted by the suddenly louder hatchlings and all the loud people. Squatting down with him, and then moving to kneel, she looked back up at R'tansky, before turning her eyes back to the flits, fingers grappling slightly at the sweetroll. Easier, he said, but still something she'd never thought she'd be allowed to do. She was, after all, a now ex-addict. She was...different. Looking back to him when he smiled, that got a tiny grin, "I'm trying. The noise is just....a lot to take in." Quite a bit to take in for someone not used to it, "Nabol was always loud, but....sober, it's harder to deal with." For indeed, she'd been almost completely sober for three days now, and hadn't touched even a drop of Felis. Here was hoping it stayed that way. She wanted to be of some use...Wanted to stay near R'tansky and...maybe some day go to a weyr....watch a hatching....

Onyx of Blue Miehrath and Candidate Nyrida

It didn't take long for Onyx to get news of the firelizard clutch, even if she was all the way at Western. She had Vijr, obviously, and while she loved him, the possibility of a second firelizard was just too...tantalizing. She had been idly sorting through her healer's tools, with little else to do at that exact moment. For once, neither a surgeon nor a dragonrider were needed; the rarity of it meant, of course, a combination firelizard-beach-visit!

Onyx carefully put her tools away, before dashing over to where her dragon waited. You are quite the character, you know, Miehrath commented, as he lowered his head to allow her to climb up. Why don't we offer to bring a candidate? They can't exactly fly there.

"You there!" Onyx called out to a girl she vaguely recognized as a candidate. Maybe. "You're a candidate, right?"

Nyrida paused. She'd been enjoying a quiet day in the weyrbowl, a rare respite from lessons and duties. She looked up towards the bluerider, who was calling out to her, very clearly so. "Er...yes, I am a candidate. May I assist you, dragonrider?"

Onyx gestured for her to approach. "We're going to a firelizard hatching. And you're coming, right? C'mon, it'll be good for you. I'm sure you could use the company."

Nyrida, for her part, wasn't sure how to handle this odd rider, but she mulled it over for a moment, before nodding. Onyx helped her up, and Miehrath quietly reassured Nyrida that his rider wasn't as odd and silly as she seemed...probably.

The beach is nice, too, even if we're used to fair weather here at Western... the blue commented, as he took to the skies. A quick trip between, and they had arrived. Miehrath landed gently, lowering his head for his passengers to dismount. Nyrida, still confused by the oddness of the encounter, dismounted first, followed by Onyx.

"Oh, here. You'll need this." Onyx pulled out some strips of dried meat and offered a few to Nyrida, before biting into one herself. Nyrida accepted, and shyly began to offer the meat to any firelizards who approached. Onyx did the same, but in a much more high-energy, good-mood way.
