Ishiba, much to her own suprise, didn't actually mind Mariko. Normally she finds such people who are so... loud, to be annoying. Maybe it's because she seems younger then her? She didn't spend much time thinking on it, as it usually doesn't lead to anthing productive anyway; worrying about such things. Water and Earth...? I... guess that fits? She thought to herself. Though Lahlil's comment about sharing those same elements, and her own phrasing, made Ishiba only have yet more questions cropping up in her mind; again, she didn't let them bother her. By this point though, Ishiba had no idea what she should do with the piece of parchment that is now effectively mud. It looked like, and quite frankly felt like, mud. IS it mud...? Or is it still parchment...? she thought to herself, looking at the "parchmen" in mild confusion.

tabGiggling a bit at Mariko Lahlil placed her hands up in mock surrender. From her pocket Lahlil pulled two more shorts of the chakra paper and handed them to her new student. "Now when you use these try to control your chakra as it flows into the paper. Depending on it's reaction it will either crumble for earth, crinkle for lightning, sog for water, split for wind, or burn for fire. It's alright if you need to use both papers too, most people don't know how to channel both chakra natures on their first." Most it seemed except for Ishiba. Giving the girl a wink as a form of subtle praise Lahlil turned her attention to watch which nature the paper would show.

"A-thank you." Mariko giggled, eagerly taking the two slips of paper from her teacher's hand, and listened closely to her instructions. She'd nod in understanding as Lahlil went on to describe the effects each element would have on the paper, smiling throughout. By the time she was finished, Mariko was had already directly her focus intently on the two slips within her little fingers. Actually, this was the first time since Lahlil and Ishiba met Mariko, that they'd notice this was the quietest, and most serious she has ever been. Her eyes wide, burning holes into the pieces of paper before her, Mariko's lips were pursed with determination and focus.
"Okay."
There was a strange tone of certainty in her voice, as if she was attempting to command the pieces of paper to transform within her grasp... yet nothing happened. She remained still, and another few moments passed by. Still nothing. A hue of bright pink began to slowly present itself upon her chubby cheeks -- whether out of embarrassment or overexertion, it was hard to tell. A small, barely audible whine rumbled within her throat. The paper wasn't doing anything despite her focus, which was starting to become clouded with doubts and worries of disappointing her first teacher. N-no! I can do it... Her little fingers clutched the pieces of paper more tightly now, a small crinkle appearing around them from the force alone.
Ishiba looked back up in time to catch the wink Lahlil gave her, uncertain as to what it was for; even so, she smiled softly anyway. She looked over to Mariko who was now attempting to determine her elemental nature, much like Ishiba had just a moment ago. Though, as Ishiba noticed, Mariko seemed to be having difficulty. Ishiba watched for a moment longer, seeing the sudden crinkle; and then notcing the vice-like grip Mariko was using on the paper. "U-um... I-I don't t-think gripping i-it so h-hard is g-going to h-help..." She stammered out. "Y-you could t-try how I-I did i-it... Just t-think of y-yourself as a-a faucet, a-at least t-that's w-what my m-mother suggested..." She said, still stuttering. Though Ishiba only realized it after she said something, her mother may have already known what Ishiba's first element was before she tested her. Which would explain an awful lot, but she could ask her mother about that later. Though she'd be lucky if she could even talk to her mother, depending on when she got back; she may be drunk, or having one of her emotional fits again. In either case, she wouldn't really be able to talk to her; and at least expect a coherent answer.

tabWaiting patiently Lahlil watched Mariko's, never once expressing disappointment or a sense urgency. She wanted to be as supportive as possible even though there was worry in her heart. Unlike with studying the actual formation of jutsu this was just something that she would have to discover on her own. Following up with what Ishiba said Lahlil added her own bit trying make it clearer if possible. "Ishiba is right. It's not something you can force but something you sort of.. let out and flow with it." Pulling out her own paper to demonstrate Lahlil let her chakra flow into the paper, displaying her mastery over her natures Lahlil stripped it of elemental properties and causing it to take in a pale white glow in place of it's usual effects. "If it's too difficult just focus on your chakra as a whole instead of pulling for your elements." Although the course she had planned involved them, it was wholly possible to teach the girl using only the Maruton nature that everyone possessed. I wonder if I should send a message to Mira.. she was a more than accomplished ninja and knows Maruton like the back of her hand.. While still deciding Lahlil was struck by a sudden inspiration for a little field trip to take both of her students on.

The two pieces of paper remained unresponsive within Mariko's fingers. She hadn't realized that she was trying to force the paper to change, rather than providing the paper with resources, being her chakra, to react to. Both Lahlil and Ishiba's words of wisdom were acknowledged with a soft nod. Deep down she was still a little embarrassed that the two had to offer it in the first place, yet at the same time, happy to see that the Kage and her (possible) new friend were supportive.
This alone was enough to get her to relax, taking in a deep breath and focusing inward as her teacher suggested. Like a faucet... Mariko repeated Ishiba's advice like a mantra within her mind, even making the sound of a faucet through her teeth with every exhale. For her first time ever doing such a thing, she expected being able to pinpoint what exactly her chakra felt like to be far more difficult. However, having fully settled down to focus, she could feel this... strange energy moving inside of her. Mariko tried to guide and follow that feeling up through her arms and shoulders, a smile forming on her face in excitement. "Hm, hm-hmmm~" From her lips a happy tune, right at the moment the pieces of paper started to react with her chakra.
A dim glow emanated from them, and then nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Mariko looked at Ishiba, and then Lahlil, her smile having faded and replaced with slight confusion. "...M-my paper... didn't get soggy?" She didn't understand. Mariko wanted the water nature bad enough that she should have gotten it, right? Her eyes fell to the two pieces of blank, unaltered paper, then to Ishiba's, of which had the appearance of mud.
Ishiba watched on, intent on seeing even the slightest change in the paper Mariko was holding. When they began to glow faintly she almost gasped, but she withheld the movement. Ishiba looked at Mariko, bearing the faintest of smiles. "I-it didn't g-get soggy... b-but it d-did glow a-a little a-a moment t-there..." Ishiba said, trying to sound comforting. Though she didn't really voice it, Ishiba was actually pretty impressed. It took her a couple months to even be able to do that much, though that was a few years ago; she'd gotten better at controling her chakra since.Though Ishiba remained curious as to what Mariko's elemental natures were, she understood that it could take quite a bit of time before Mariko ever got that far.

Thalia stared at the stumbling bird for only a moment in shock before she scooped it in to her arms and hugged it close. The little owlet cub nuzzled in to her neck and the small girl smiled through her tears, this little animal had chosen her! there were so many other, bigger, kids it could have chosen like Theo or Himawari or that mean kid who always stole her cookies but it chose her! She buried her nose in to it's fluffy down, sniffling in till her tears stopped.
Luckily, it was then Himawari and Varg chose to appear, when the tears had all but gone. Quickly, hoping to not seem like a little wimp more than she already had, Thali wiped away her tears and held up her new found friend to the tamer lady in front of her. The owlet cub let out a valiant chirp and wore a face full of triumph.
"I'm gonna call him Samhain! Sammy for short! And we're gonna be the bestest of friends, isn't that right Sammy?" Samhain let out another valiant chirp, setting it's clawed appendages on it's hips in a quite human-like manner. "He's so stinkin' cute..." With those words, Thalia was again snuggling the fuzzy friend, a big smile on her face.

When Thalia proudly showed off her newfound friend, Hima couldn't help but smile gently as she gently hook her finger and brought it towards to the owl slowly so it can get a good sniff. Varg on the other hand, suddenly pokes his nose up against it's belly as Hima shooed him away. Sometimes Varg doesn't know if he was being rough. She hopes that the nose boop on the belly doesn't bother the owl too much. Thalia gladly announced the name she had chosen. Samhain? How interesting. Sammy works. A warm and soft smile could be seen if one was to look at Himawari, "Yes, he's very handsome and I have a feeling you two will be best of friends. There will be moments where it feels like the world is cruel and cold place, that's when you two should turn to each other. Be each other's warmth and light." She haven't forgot how the young girl's father treated her, to her, it was a bit too much and cruel. Himawari heard some sounds so she clicked her tongue gently to get Varg's attention. With that, she climbed onto his back and then balanced herself as she stood up and glanced towards where the noise was coming from. Oh. It was the Hokage. Never got to meet the woman to be honest. She seemed to be training two students at the moment. With that, she turned her body side ways to slide down Varg's side and landed on the ground. "Thalia, would you like me to take you home or was there something are you wanting to do?" Himawari questioned towards her. One thing that Thalia may or may not notice, was that Himawari had treated her as equals. Not as someone who was younger than her or as a child. But equals and even gave her a choice to help with her independence. Once Hima was off of his back, Varg laid back down on the ground and let out a bit of a snort as if something was tickling his nose a bit, few bits of dirt kicked up from the snort.

tabWhen the paper didn’t change at all Lahlil’s suspicion was mostly confirmed. While it was still wholly possible that the girl simply didn’t know how yet to access her elements yet, usually when something like this happened it was because they carried an affinity to Maruton. Forming a single handseal Lahlil summoned a tiny squeaking bat in the air above them which she gave a mental direction to head over to her office, her other hand was offering a comforting pat to Mariko. “Don’t worry hun, that just means you’re special in other ways. Besides it isn’t needed for what I’m going to teach you here today!” Taking up position in front of her two students, her finger pointing six singular rectangle space in front of them. With a short delay afterwards a number of fuunin symbols appeared along with a puff of smoke that revealed a scroll. Each one describing a separate technique. “Each of these details one of the six basic ninja techniques. You will need to master all of them before I can give you the final exam and promote you into official recognizable shinobi of Konoha!”
Her voice carried zeal behind it meant to excite rather daunt them at the prospect. If they were truly going to pursue this career, then they were going to have to survive a lot worse. “First there is the Kai or release technique. This is your primary dispelling ninjutsu and is mainly used to combat genjutsu, which is one of the area’s that I specialize in. Otherwise as known as the illusion art, genjutsu uses your chakra to trick people into believing something is there when it really isn’t. To fight this, you can use either pain, or release chakra of your own to dispel the opponent’s chakra that is infecting your body. The second is the Henge technique. Creating a coat of chakra around your body you can disguise yourself as another appearance you choose. Thirdly, there is the Bunshin no jutsu. This allows you to use your chakra to create an extension of yourself that is essentially a weaker clone version of yourself. Fourthly, there is the substitution technique. This allows one to replace their body with another equally weighted object at instant speeds right before an attack. Finally, there is the fifth and sixth are actually quite similar to each other. By concentration your chakra to your feet you can become capable of walking along water and even on vertical surfaces like ceilings!”
Glad that it was finally finished Lahlil barely caught her breath after such a long-winded speech, but it was important that each of them understands the basic mechanics of each ability and she was nothing if not thorough. But now came her favourite part of all! The demonstration! Renewed with a new sense of invigoration over getting to show off for the little ones, there came about a pale aura around Lahlil’s feet. Faster than they would be able to blink her body was gone, using the substitution to replace herself with a pile of nearby books which fell to the ground. The real Hokage reappeared on the table nearby, which she used to kick herself off of and land on the wall as if her gravity had just been shifted. Standing up from her crouch the woman threw both kids a smile and started to walk up the wall and onto the ceiling above them. “And this is only a taste of what you’ll be able to do once you get even stronger! For now I want you two to read from the scroll and practice until you both can stand here with me.”

Even before the comforting words of both Ishiba and Lahlil, Mariko didn't appear to be upset. Her eyes continued to gaze at the sheets of paper in her hands as her teacher spoke. Special in other ways? The little Academy student was unsure how that was possible. Before learning anything about chakra, and that she had it, Mariko was only ever good at drawing. Was drawing blue birds and butterflies really all that special?
Her current contemplative mood turned to one of pure excitement and curiosity, almost automatically, as Lahlil mentioned teaching them something new. Rectangle-shaped spaces appeared before Mariko's very eyes, created from a mere pointing of Lahlil finger. "W-woah! How did you-" From within those rectangles, strange symbols appeared, followed by a puff of smoke which caused Mariko to jump in shock. "Wah-looka-hahahehehe!" Some incomprehensible words mixed with laughter suddenly bursts from within her, staring at the now present scrolls with awe as she tried to contain herself. It was almost like magic, and clearly beyond entertaining for one of Lahlil's students. Her teacher's words only fired her up even more, wiggling with an overflow of energy.
Lahlil went on to describe the six techniques she and Ishiba were required to learn, Mariko listening intently while managing her excitement as best as she could. Each of the six techniques were expertly explained, giving Mariko a decent understanding of each. I'm gonna learn ninja tricks! They all sounded so amazing to her, and she was going to learn them all, just like her teacher asked of her. Before Mariko could do, think, or move anything else, Lahlil vanished into a pile of books. "Wah!? She managed to turn just in time to see her teacher airborne, landing gracefully upon the wall. To her surprise, she didn't fall, but instead was standing upon it as if it were the floor itself!
Mariko's jaw dropped, followed by an exhale of an odd noise no one would be able to make sense of. "That. Is. Soooo. COOL!" She jumped up and down, laughing as she pointed at the teacher, turning towards Ishiba. "Look at that! We're gonna walk on the wall like spiders!" She quickly returned her focus to the scroll, reading it over one more time, "I wanna be like La-heel too!" Her teacher was so amazing, and even after only meeting her just moments ago, Mariko had feelings of great infatuation for the woman. There couldn't possibly be anyone more awesome and smart as Lahlil! She giggled, running up to the wall under Lahlil, looking up at her with a smile, "Here I come~!" Much like the pieces of paper, Mariko learned that she was to channel her chakra into her feet, to provide adhesive properties that would then allow her to walk up the wall. So she did just that, but this time, without the 'faucet' noises.
She could feel the chakra gathering at her feet, and success of this would be quite obvious to everyone else as she let out an excited giggle. "Hmm..." She's cautiously start by raising one leg, planting her foot flat against the wall. Her body swayed, pulling away and moving to the sides to see how well the base of her foot adhered to the wall's surface. Feeling a steady resistance, and ultimately no sign of her foot leaving the wall, she inched closer to prepare the placement of her second foot.
"Okay, okay. The other foot now..." She muttered to herself, bracing her body with her hands against the wall as she raised her other leg. It felt strange, having so much weight being supported on one leg, but somehow she remained intact with the wall. With her second foot placed, she was on all fours with her eyes closed - expecting herself to slip the entire time. Opening her eyes, she gasped aloud, turning to Ishiba, "Look! I'm La-heel! I'm on the wall!" Her excitement disrupted the concentration of chakra to her feet, causing her to slip downwards. "Ah!" Mariko quickly got herself back together, managing to re-channel chakra to her feet nearly twice as fast as the first to times, skidding to a halt. Her cheeks flared red with embarrassment, "Hee-hee..." Returning her attention back to the task at hand, Mariko used her hands to pull her upward at first, followed by two baby steps with her feet, then stopped. Okay... I'm not gonna fall. Not gonna fall... She kept telling herself, gaining a small amount of confidence to continue up the wall. It was at a snail's pace, and she still hadn't mustered up the courage to fully stand and walk, but you've got to learn to crawl before you can learn to walk, you know.
Though Lahlil's creation of the scrolls caught her off guard, everything else she was doing wasn't of much suprise to Ishiba. For Ishiba's brithday, her mother always showed off ninjutsu to her; which at the time she found to be the most entertaining thing in the world. Now, however, she'd grown somewhat used to it. Though the speed at which Lahlil executed the whole thing was something of a surpise to Ishiba, her mother defintely didn't do any of it that fast, she still smiled softly. Shortly after Mariko started her attempt at the wall walking jutsu, Ishiba started on her own. Though she did take after Mariko with reading the scroll beforehand. Then she slowly walked up to the nearest wall, and began to focus on the soles of her feet. Like a butterfly... Ishiba thought to herself, over and over again. Slowly, the area around her feet became damp with water; while Ishiba was great at channeling her elemental nature, Maruton wasn't something she was all that good at. Ishiba paid the, effectively, puddle no heed; thinking that everything was still fine. Slowly, she brought one leg up slightly; like how one would climb atop a small boulder. Feeling the wall slightly sink due to the sudden addition of water didn't make her any more comfortable, she swallowed her own fear and brought her other leg up. Though she'd take another moment to refocus her thoughts before she'd notice, she was already standing on the wall. Eventually she looked down towards her feet, and realised she was indeed standing on the wall. Even despite this, seemingly, shocking revalation; Ishiba kept her focus. Slowly, she began to walk up the wall; which was begining to look like it'd not been tended to in several years. Eventually, she reached the ceiling; wherein she stopped completely. Was the water she was, effectively, producing start coming down like rain on her? What about the fact that she was wearing a dress? Worries of all kinds slowly sprung up in her mind, so instead Ishiba began to take after her second element instead. Like a mountain... Ishiba instead starting repeating to herself in her mind. Slowly, the water flowing down the wall started turning muddy; but Ishiba paid it no mind. Eventually, it was all but dry; turning into something more akin to fresh earth. Slowly, while holding her dress down, Ishiba started to step onto the ceiling. She could feel how much less of a grip it had on her, or was it her grip on it? Either way, it felt way more likely she would fall. But slowly and surely, like the stubborn mountain she was imagining, she had both feet on the ceiling. Her hair now completely loose and upside down, she looked something like a horror monster; or some kind of evil spirit. Ishiba slowly looked towards Lahlil and Mariko, faint smile all but gone; and replaced with her incessant shaking. "D-did I-I d-do i-it...?" she stammered out, looking to Lahlil with a face something of a combination of fear, worry, and doubt; though still somewhat faint, much like her earlier smile.

tabMaking sure to remember to keep her feet attached to the wall this time Lahlil only clapped excitedly for both girls as opposed to jumping over the joyous emotion she felt. The prospect of raising the next generation was enough to bring tears to one’s eyes! “Oh! You both did so well! I remember my time during the academy I always had such troubles with chakra focus. Since you two seem to be so talented how about a little challenge hm?” A sly smile spread along her lips as a sudden inspiration just so happened to come to her at that very moment. The perfect way to expose her students to advanced techniques and teach them a learning lesson. Eyes shifting from a soft lavender to a rosy pink Lahlil pointed to the books that lay on the ground from where she had substituted earlier. “See those books down there? Each one should weigh close enough to what you do. If both of you can substitution with one of those books and then catch it as it falls, then I’ll buy you both a treat! Ice cream, candy, or whatever else you can imagine! Sound good?”

Mariko continued steadily crawling up the wall, until she noticed Ishiba walking further ahead. "H-hey! Wait for me!" Her fear of being left behind was enough motivation she needed to fully stand and briskly walk to the other student's side. All done without much awareness on her part, when she was standing upon the ceiling with Lahlil and Ishiba, she let out an enthusiastic giggle. Her teacher's praise for the both of them only made her feel evermore confident in her newfound abilities, while looking forward to becoming as cool as Lahlil in the future. The mention of a challenge piqued the six year-old's curiosity, with the reward of sweets further hyping her up. All she needed to do was perform the substitution technique with the books below, and then catch it. But, crazy Mariko was too excited about the sweets to even consider how she'd go about attempting that.
"Candy!? Ice cream!? ...D-DANGO!?" Mariko doesn't discriminate when it comes to sweet foods. She loves them all, but definitely has a few favorites; dango taking first place in that regard. Just thinking about it, made her jump for joy!

"I love dan- gah!!" Mariko's sudden outburst of excitement not only disrupted her concentration of adhesive chakra to her feet, but jumping only propelled her faster towards the ground below. Ishiba and Lahlil would see a mixture of pure terror, shock, and confusion on her face as her body flipped forward, arms and legs flailing frantically. The tightness in her stomach and chest was accompanied with an explosion of chakra, as if instinctively calling out for aid in her time of distress. Everything was moving far too slow (or fast) for Mariko to process much, yet the next thing she knew, she was laying on the table with a moderate sounding thud, followed by a plume of smoke. The book replaced her previous position in the air just a few feet above her, falling just as fast as she was. "Oof!" The book landed forcefully into her stomach, knocking the air out of her, yet she still managed to find strength to wrap her arms around it, clutching it tightly with tears forming in the corner of her eyes. The mixed experience of both physical pain and fear was too much for Mariko to handle, and even with her efforts of preventing such an action in front of her friends, slowly but surely she began to cry.
Ishiba watched with a pleasent smile as Mariko came up to match her position. While the prospect of being gotten a gift of some kind sounded really nice, the challenge that was proposed is more of what caught Ishiba's attention. Though any such thoughts were completely driven from her mind as Mariko began to fall. Ishiba barely even had the time to gasp before Mariko landed. A sudden flood of memories almost made Ishiba fall as well, though she caught herself before any such thing occured. "Give me just a second, I can help..." She said with suprising speed and confidence. Proceedingly, she substituted her position with that of one of the books Lahlil mentioned; which she then deftly caught and set back down on the pile. Her thoughts now clouded with worry over Mariko, Ishiba rushed over to her. "Are you alright, did you get hurt anywhere...?" She said, quickly looking Mariko over. When she then started to cry, Ishiba gave Mariko a great big hug. And without a word, started humming softly. Not a single note out of tune, the whole thing seemingly planned and practiced. "It'll be alright..." Ishiba said under her breath, "I'm here to help..." She said, yet quieter. Ishiba briefly looked up to Lahlil, her face wrought with worry.
