Perhaps it was the confidence. Perhaps it was the fact that he was already bonded to a very handsome bronze. Covered in sand, a little gold flit pushed her way past a few of her siblings, tromping right over a little bronze, and snapping at a little blue. Where a little green seemed to be approaching T'en, the little queen spread her wings, and pounced--knocking her clutchmate to the side. Ignoring her sisters protest, the gold pounced directly on T'ens offering, gobbling up the tidbits quickly, and with a loud shriek, demanding more.
This gold was hungry, and T'en had better keep the food coming. It was clear this little flit loved some nugs.

Where Belia might not have been interested in obtaining a little flit, one little green couldn't help but scurry over. Oh, life was just so hard! The poor little green had been going towards some food when her cruel, awful, terrible, sister had pounced upon her and taken the nugs for herself!
The world was cruel, wasn't it? And this little green couldn't help but be a pathetic and distressed little figure. Crying out in hunger, she begged for some of the food Belia had procured, not at all interested in her friend, or anyone else.
Instead, she needed acceptance, not rejection... would Belia give it to her?
Stumbling through the crowd, a young, handsome blue couldn't help but stumble and tumble through the crowds. Though his wings were partially mantled, it wasn't in distress; the poor thing just seemed to be trying to dry them out... Cheeping happily, his eyes whirled a bright green, as the little one paused to let some of his other clutchmates find some tasty tidbits. Finally, he reached out and delicately wrapped himself around the foot of another. Not only did this seem like a perfect perch, but he was quite certain there would be a tasty treat in this for him, too, yes? Surely Sura wouldn't deprive him of some choice morsel, would she? Crooning eagerly, the friendly and eager little blue made his intentions clear.

Harpiath swung her head around to snort as the young woman backed off. Now, don't get in a tizzy. She said gruffly, slowly padding forward until she could crane her neck enough to better look Keris in the eye. Chin up. Don't submit so easily. Even though she'd just taken the wind out of her sails.... Harpiath didn't seem to realize the contradiction, there. You're a bright young thing. Don't lose sight of that.
Amalteia was torn between a smile and a sigh as her dragon immediately took to fussing, slowly making her way over. "Forgive her," She said softly, reaching out to place a gentle hand on the woman's shoulder. "Harpiath means well, but her tact hasn't improved over all of these many Turns."
The dragon snorted once more, shaking her head disdainfully. Once spoken to, she drew herself up to stare at Killakeeth once more, assessing her even as freshly hatched firelizards scurried about. A fine clutch you had, I hear. Pity about the father's behavior. In the future, drive them from the sands if they make such a scene. If he protests, make him go. Blunt and self-assured as always, that was Harpiath.

You're fine, you're fine, Sura assured Esurienth even as more dragons assembled on the sands. While the gold had not assumed any defensive stances yet, Sura had spent too much time with her beloved to ignore signs she was uncomfortable. The woman had been considering ending their curious venture early when something brushed against her foot.
Someone, rather.
Esurienth rumbled with a mix of curiosity and concern, unhappily watching as Sura crouched to greet the little blue. "I hope you like fish, little guy," she spoke softly as the roll was pulled from the depths of her riding jacket, pulling a piece off to offer to the hatchling. It was gobbled up quickly, the blue peeping in plea for another morsel. Another piece off the roll was offered. Then another. In short order the fish roll would be gone, and Sura's new little blue friend would still be begging for more. Even as she scooped him up with a hand he'd n** at her fingers.
Hungry, hungry.
"I'll get you more, never worry, Little Guy," she assured as she walked back to Esurienth, holding him up for the Gold's appraisal.

Somewhat startled, somewhat nervous that Harpiath still found something in her to address, the young woman lifted her gaze to those whirling facets. The wise dragon had a point to not submit, even if her spirit had all but. Her heart still dully ached, and she had found herself nodding gently. Hearing such a compliment.. It meant more than Harpiath likely knew, more than she herself knew. 'I will try to keep that in mind, thank you..' Hard advice to follow, but. She could certainly try.
The approach of Amalteia had her turning, smiling politely to the other woman. "Nothing to forgive. She was correct -- I hadn't been thinking too clearly. She might have saved me from a new scar." It wasn't out of the question, since all newborn dragonkin seemed so demanding and active out of the shell. But Keris moved a touch closer to the goldrider, and relished the contact of a hand on her shoulder more than she'd ever admit. "My name is Keris. If you or Harpiath might ever need use of me for stiff joints or muscles, I would be quite happy to put my skills to work."

I'm Here For You, Flit Baby! Character Name: Dhawsn What are they offering for food?: Sweetrolls
Normally exuding cheer, Dhawsn was surprisingly quiet on his rest day. Maybe he just felt a little peopled out for once, or maybe it was just a lot of things continuing to weigh him down long after the fact. Or he was getting fatter somehow. These sweetrolls were hard not to pocket and eat on the go after all...But he had to keep at least one at the ready for the beach trip.
Minty mussed his hair until the cowlick spring up at the back, a little antsy about sharing him but slightly hopeful he might give her the sweetroll instead. "Naw, sweetpea," he said to her, giving her chin a scratch with his finger. "I gotta keep this fer a later snack." Nothing beat being able to relax, kick back, and eat something while watching the shore; it was probably lucky he had been recruited to Western instead of High Reaches, as he would have withered in the cold mountains.
He had to try very, very hard not to think about getting another flit for himself. Dhaesilva--Daisy seemed to like them. Shame he couldn't bring her here and have her pick an egg herself, but this was a close enough compromise.

Allamor might not be here for flits, but one particular squawking, squabbling blue certainly was here for his meatroll. Where the young man was happy to be somewhere new and on a grand adventure, he would soon find himself in brand new company.
Throughout all the commotion, it was difficult to know where he came from, but quite suddenly he'd find the little blue crawling up the back of his tunic searching madly for something edible.
This shirt...was it edible? Something smelled so good...but the newborn hardly knew what to do with himself. So, he tried to eat the clothing...and cried piteously when no, it was not the source of good-smelling-meatroll.
A small, delicate little green was close to her prize... only to find that Keris had moved back! What? What was this all about? She had been so close and yet...
Crying out, the little green tried desperately to catch Keris' attention. She was here, and she was hungry-- why was she moving towards someone else? And someone else that didn't have something nearly as good.
It was with great effort the little green threw herself at Keris' feet, trying desperately to climb up to the treat that was now so far away. If the young woman wanted some affection, this green would happily oblige... but she wanted food first. She was so hungry and she had walked so-very-far (for a baby flit) to get to this morsel.
Oh, oh please pay attention to her...

Sukaidith had been hanging back... too many dragons and too much activity going on, he didn't want to take the limelight from the hatchlings... he didn't like attention anyway, though by virtue of his hide there wasn't much choice in the matter, but thankfully with all the commotion of the eggs hatching and flits finding their person, he could hang back and not be noticed much.
N'dirMine, you can't expect... you need to try to make some friends... or at least talk to someone... the bronze nudged softly. Much to the amusement of His.
Pot, meet kettle N'dir sent with soft laughter. A small smile twitched at the edges of his soft full mouth, making him slightly more approachable than the usual harsh set of his mouth.
That he was approached by anyone was a bit of a surprise, but he wasn't rude just very shy. So when she introduced herself, he responded in kind.
'Ndir,' he offered shortly. That he was attempting... he could feel the warm thrum of approval from Sukaidith, but he also thought that Nefri might be proud of him. And that as much as the approval of his lifemate meant the world to him. The flits weren't the main draw to this outing, though if he happened to catch the eye of one, well, he wouldn't turn them away, and he was certain Frith would enjoy the little cousin...
And worried that he might have come across as rude or cold – and he was neither of those – he cleared his throat. ' They are neat, I'm not sure if they are for me, but Sukai enjoys them.'
'Are you here to try and get one for yourself?' he noticed the little that was also with her, so amended his question. 'Another for yourself?'

With a cry of alarm, one of the little firelizards that hatched seemed absolutely panicked by all the commotion. Where was the fair of flits meant to protect them? Where was their dam? Their sire? Anyone? Eyes whirling yellow with fear, the little green seemed absolutely petrified by all the hands, feet, shells, dragons, and clutchmates nearby.
Bolting, the thing took flight immediately, and was surprisingly agile as it avoided the crowd.
But the little flit needed a fair...needed someone, something...needed food.
Farther out, she dove towards the first one that looked somewhat safe--and seemed to have a quiet heart and (most importantly) some very fresh meat. With a cry of relief but eyes still a bright yellow-red, the green dove at A'ye -- not to attack, but to cling to his arm and attempt to burrow against him. Yes, she wanted food, but she wanted security first...
Ok, no food first.
Then security.
Torn on what to do, the little green finally dove upon the meet, doing its best to gulp down what bits it could pry from A'ye's hand.
Choissir's timing was impeccable. Just as he'd settled in next to J'cheyn, a little green fire-lizard was picking her way past some of her clutchmates. She was certainly an affectionate being, stopping to nuzzle at a few of her green sisters, and one of her brown brothers. She moved with confidence, pausing now and then to stretch her wings, and show off her loveliness... but she didn't stop and eat, oh no. Instead, this one seemed quite particular about what choice bit of food she desired. That? No. Too ... old. That bit there? Not for the likes of her. Some nugs? Please. She had more taste than that. Finally, the little flit caught scent of something that appealed to her and with a soft croon, the little lady moved right on up to Choissir and his fresh wherry. Really, she wanted the basics--nothing too fancy, nothing too bland. This was perfect. Though it was rude to interrupt, the little beast knew what she was worth. So, it was with a loud, completely unlady-like scream, that she made her case. magnadearal A green! Also a small J'cheyn tag further down if you keep reading... One of the greens that had been so fondly nuzzled seemed to find a few moments reassurance. She crooned encouragement at her more delicate sister, before realizing she was very-much-alone and the world was oh-so-very-big. Whatever was she to do? Even her brown brother had left her... Oh...Oh no. Alone. Alooooone. Creeling with worry, she caught sight of one of her siblings... and hurried to catch up. Though they might have Impressed and been eating, the person nearby seemed like they had more than enough food to share. Giving a half-keen of worry, the green firelizard stumbled and tripped and finally was able to attach herself to Amalteia's leg. She was hungry and wanted to be fed now, oh yes please, please, pleeeeeease. Don't let her be alone... The woman wouldn't really abandon her during her time of need, would she? J'cheyn hadn't expected anyone to take much notice of him, much less talk to him. While he recognized various Western riders, the man wasn't going to approach or get in their way. Not only was he still painfully shy in large groups, but he knew that everyone's focus would be on the hatching flits. Not that he blamed them. So it was with great surprise that a voice broke his thoughts, and he quickly looked over. While he didn't recognize the stranger, he offered a small smile and a shy dip of his head. Even after all these Turns he never quite knew what to say... but at least this time the other had asked a question. "I am," he affirmed. "The ch-ch-chances may be slim but its--" he stopped when a green suddenly approached the stranger. He was about to congratulate the man when she opened her mouth and shrieked. Oh, Faranth... He stepped back, unsure if he was upsetting her or not--only to find a little brown nearby. With Savaceth's encouragement, he crouched down and offered the cooked spiderclaw. --- The little brown fire-lizard had been hot on the green's trail, clearly a sucker for pretty things. The affection he'd been given had been enough for the little creature to practically devote himself to her cause... and if that meant helping her find choice grub, than so be it. Though he ached to eat all the food the little green bypassed, he was on a mission--faithful to the end. By the time she found what she wanted, his own hunger was all but driving him to madness. So while she shrieked for a tasty morsel, he instead turned to the one with easiest access. With J'cheyn crouched down, the spiderclaw looked awfully tempting, and the brown was quick to pounce upon it. He didn't much care who it was that fed him, just so long as he got more. More, more more. One spiderclaw wouldn't be enough--he wanted more. Couldn't J'cheyn tell how hungry he was? Especially after such a long journey... Uta A brown! Because of course, in this string of flits, I land the one that isn't a green. =_= Sorry guys. If Dhawsn was here for an egg, he would find himself more than a little late. There were no eggs... but there were some hungry, screaming, baby fire-lizards. There were firelizards crawling all over the beach. Some were quick to flee elsewhere, but others found the readily-available food far too tempting. The queen who clutched these eggs was no where to be seen--but that was all the better for those on the beach oping to Impress one or two. For the more reserved Dhawsn, today was his lucky day. Where the little green had come from, it was hard to say; but she was sand-covered, and hungry! Oh so very hungry. Hungry. While Minty might have desired a bit of sweetroll for herself, this particular firelizard wanted to eat just as badly, if not more. Little caring, the creature suddenly lept up from the ground and began climbing the large man, desperate for the scent of food. It wasn't meat...but it...did taste good. Or at least the baby firelizard seemed to think. She would need actual meat soon, for firelizards weren't omnivores, but she was opportunistic. If Dhawsn wasn't careful, he'd find the little green attempting to bury her way into his pocket so she could devour the sweetroll herself. Gimme, gimme!

Perhaps it had been Harpiath's voice of reproach, the sting of her heart, or the comfort that a small touch from Amalteia. But she had been so oblivious to the little form making a way to her, hadn't heard the desperate calls for her attention. But the small weight throwing itself at her legs, the little talons digging into her legs and doing their best to climb up.
Seeing the little green trying to climb up over her knee had been a surprise, and her desperate pleas for attention broke her heart more in turn.
"Oh, little love. Come here." Meat slice between two fingers, Keris gently gathered the little green up into her hands to hold closer. Armor peered curiously, as the little green peeped back miserably. "Hush, little one. I have you. See? Here, let's get you fed.." Gently nudging the little green closer to the crook of her arm, she tore the wherry slice into bits, feeding them one at a time. The baby firelizard took them all sweetly, piece by piece for as hungry as she had to be. It warmed Keris' heart, and she smiled honestly down at the green who only looked up with pure purple eyes.
"See? I'm here, and a full belly is always nice." She peeped, fanning her wings and popping up to press her fore paws on Keris' collarbone, and bump her head against her jaw. "Oh, aren't you the sweetest." There's a bit of a laugh there; soft, husky. Faranth, when was the last time she'd laughed? The little green snuggled closer as Keris debated a name. Sweetheart? No. A soft, lovely little -- "Darling."
Darling jerked her head back, peeping at the name choice -- just as Carica took to Keris' other shoulder, the little queen peering at the green curiously.

The last of the hatchlings were making their way out of the nest, each one creeling and crying, trying hard to find something edible to eat. WIth red eyes, a bronze fire-lizard reared his head, with markings the matched the gold previously. With a hiss and snap, the demanding beast snarled and snapped at some of its slower clutchmates, bullying his way past them.
He was hungry! Hungry, hungry, hungry!
With an attitude three times as big as itself, the irritable creature made a made rush through the crowd. It was only when he found himself close to the alluring scent of fingertails that he pounced. He ripped into the fish Ryala offered, tearing them to bits and gorging himself silly on the food. Thankfully, the flit wasn't aggressive at all really--simply hangry--and with the first bites of food, his eyes turned green, and he couldn't help but beg for more.
With her bronze brother snapping and pushing her way through the crowd, one quick green managed to deftly avoid being trampled upon. With surprise, she found herself stumbling right into Sylfie, and... oh. Oh my stars, who was that? Her eyes fell upon Kelann flitting about, and her hearts stopped. She might have only been moments out of the shell but really now--that was a fine specimen! Not like her nasty-tempered brother.
Still, hunger demanded she eat, and ever so gently, the little lady bounded for the curried wherry. Though she practically buried her face in the dish, she did pause to fondly cuddle up to Sylfie in thanks. A little touch went a long way for this green... and she intended to get in some good cuddling--just as soon as she'd licked this plate clean. She was a growing girl, after all...
The ever shy N'dir might not have been trying to tempt a flit himself, but a very bold brown had other plans. Shaking off the sand, leaping to the air, the brown did his best to get near--but he was only a little flit, and still weak out of the egg. Where he seemed to be graceful on wing, his landing left much to be disired, and he crashed right into N'dir.
With a startled cheap, the little creature suddenly found himself quite tangled up--his wingtips were caught on some of N'dri's clothing, and he had instinctively gripped onto his shirt with his claws, and wrapped a tail around one of his arms. Help! Heeeeelp! The brown sure found himself in a bit of a panic... but the scent of food so close at hand had him struggling less out of fear, and more out of a desire to eat.
He was hungry! Huuuungry!
Ever shy Yunara would find herself with some friendly company. Away from the commotion of some of his clutchmates, a small blue trotted forward. He was looking for just the right morsel when--ah-ha! There it was! Ducking through the crowds, doing his best not to bump into anyone, and letting a few of his green sisters go first, the blue finally strode up to the source of his hearts'--or perhaps stomach's--desires.
With all the carriage of a gentleman, the little blue knew it would be rude to pounce and slobber all over the little finger sandwiches. Instead, he reached out a little clawed foreleg and tugged gently on her skirts -- to make sure she was paying attention. Booping her knee with his little wedge head, he opened his maw and let his eyes whirl red. Could he, perhaps, have such fine fare?
While N'dir was tangled up (literally) with a brown fire-lizard, another little one wasn't too far behind. This time, though, the pale bronze wanted nothing but meat pasties. With a loud shriek, the little beast begged Syrenthie for the tasty offerings. Couldn't she see he was absolutely starving? Couldn't she see that he was so, so, so hungry?
If the little bronze thought he wasn't being paid enough attention, his voice would go up a few more notches in pitch and volume. Syrenthie! Syrenthie he was starving! Where was the food? Why wasn't it in his mouth yet?
So much noise! So much commotion! And so much going on!
Moving through the sands was a very large, and (surprisingly) plush green. The little creature was anything but soft and cuddly though. Instead, her eyes whirled red and like some of her cluchmates, she had no problem causing trouble. Hissing, snarling, and even snapping at one of her blue brothers who had so graciously let her pass, the little beast was on a hunt.
Get. Out. Of. The. Way.
For one of her green sisters, she trod right over them, little caring about the squeaks and squeals of protest. Instead, the little beast finally found what she wanted, and nipping at Yllaei's toes, the bad-tempered green spread her wings and hissed. The hiss wasn't at Yllaei persay, but anyone dumb enough to get too close.
For the poor baker, she had better give up the goods, lest she'd lose a toe---or at least find a flit chewing angrily upon her shoe.
Poking his head up form the nest, shaking off sand and egg-good, a happy little blue bugled his triumph. Hello world! He was here! He had been waiting and now he was the first one to -- wait. He wasn't the first one to hatch. Instead, he found most of his clutchmates were already feasting! Oh! Oh wait a moment...what about him?
Scrambling out of the nest, kicking up sand, and warbling to no one in particular, the little creature made a made dash. Who had food? Did this one have food? Did that one--oh no, that was just a rock. What about that one--nope, nope, green sister found her first. Ok, well.. someone had to have food! Maybe...
K'ino!
With a joyous warble, the little firelizard finally found someone with a choice offering, and the little blue made little work of the sweet, succulent, grilled fish. He might have been the last to hatch, but he wasn't the last to Impress--and he certainly had the best meal on Pern!
Last but most certainly not least, a poor, trodden little green finally pulled herself up from the sands. While she wasn't injured, her pride was wounded, and she felt very distressed by the whole affair. Her sister had all but attacked her, and now she was here, alone, the last of her clutch to find something to eat. With a sad creel, the little creature moved through the crowd, hoping someone would have something to give.
Thankfully, she wasn't forgotten, and soon found herself in front of Qiana. With a joyful creel, the little green hurried over to the jerky, setting herself upon it. Unfortunately, it... it was a bit tough for the moments-old-flit, but she took a corner, and simply put her mouth on the edge, drooling a bit, and periodically tearing at it. She'd get this eating thing down soon enough... Sort of.

Glimpses of colorful wings could be seen past the encircling gathering of people. Blues, greens, and... Wow, a gold! Ryala's eyes were drawn to them all, and suddenly she realized, as she watched one person pull out a fish roll and start feeding pieces to the blue hatchling before them, that she hadn't thought ahead as to what to feed a new flit. She remembered well how Ghost had been, that evening that he'd first appeared to her. Food was definitely needed, but what...?
Silent as a thought, Ghost drifted down and perched on the covered bowl she still held, his eyes whirling with the excitement of the event, and the girl almost smacked herself. Fingertails! Those should serve admirably!
"C'mon, Ghost," she murmured, as she shifted the blue to her shoulder. Fortunately, he was too engrossed in the proceedings to protest the change, merely wrapping his tail around her throat for balance as he bore witness to each flitling's progress. Pulling the lid free from the bowl, Ryala didn't really get a chance to pull any of the fingertails out before one of the tiny creatures, who had been rather testy with his clutchmates, started storming past them heading in her direction. Almost without thought, her hand reached in as she knelt, and she was lifting a fish tail first halfway from the container when the little lad struck. Eyes whirling redly, the bronze ripped quite literally into the offering, and the next, and the next...
As his hunger was sated, she watched those whirling eyes slow and shift to a calmer green. Much to her surprise, he even gently nuzzled her hand after polishing off yet another tasty morsel, and looked up at her with a happy cheep. Deep down, Ryala breathed a sigh of relief. "So, you were just angry about the empty stomach, huh?" she murmured, stroking his tiny head. Another cheep was his reply, followed by another demand for food. He needed more, now!
Ghost had turned his attention away from the others when the bronze one had approached, and had remained silent throughout. Hmm... This one was smart, coming to this person. She was a good one. But he could be bossy... Maybe Ghost would have to pull a few fun jokes on him, teach him to have fun! It was certainly worth a try!
But not right now. Now, he was little, and hungry, and sleepy. But soon.
